Side Chapter (Jonah): The Meeting that Changed Two Lives Part 3

It was official. There could only be two causes behind what Jonah was witnessing. Option one, he was in the middle of a drug induced hallucination curtosy of the Scouts' resident mad scientist. Option two, Jonah was experience early onset senility. Those were the only possible explanations.

There wasn't really a naked late teenage girl carving up a wild pig in front of him, completely ignoring the blood and guts coating her legs. Nope. Nuhuh. No way. And said non-existent naked girl wasn't wearing a loose locked collar or a key hanging off a piece of twine. Nope. All in his head.

"This must be a sign of improvement. Instead of deliriously mumbling to himself, the flat one simply shakes his head and blinks excessively. Either that your kind is afflicted with some type of head virus native to this region. Though why I am not inflicted with it either means my inner workings are superior to your own or your kind weakened your bodies by maintaining existences within those horrendous abominations."

"I already told you before! Damn it, if you're going to insult me, say it in something I can understand!"

Muddy red hair framed the apathetic face staring dully back at him.

"Honestly, you're not too bright if you haven't already deduced that we are incapable of speaking the same language, Flat one. Though there is a sense of enjoyment watching you struggle in your bounds, looking like smoke is going to come out of your ears."

The woman seemed to pause. "Smoke out of ears? Yet another statement I know yet remain unaware of the proper meaning behind it. Strange but irrelevant to the matter at hand."

Jonah knew his existence had been dismissed yet again as the woman resumed her…butchery of the animal carcass. Strangely, she seemed to be carefully preserving the fur and upper skin layer, while carefully cutting out the meat in long thin chunks and smoking them over a fire.

It was sad that Jonah was struggling to convince himself none of this was real. He understood that, but nothing that was happening was supposed to be possible. How could it be?

The mere idea of someone being capable of living beyond the Walls almost seemed…well, those Wall fanatics would call it blasphemy, but Jonah was thinking more along the lines of insanity. Unfortunately, he knew that eventually, he would have to accept this…miracle…lunacy more like it.

It had already been a week by his estimate. He wasn't too sure how long he was unconscious initially, but he didn't think it was too long. After his panic episode (what he called waking up underground), Jonah had awoken again to the feeling of something mushy yet tasty entering his mouth, only to see the naked woman feeding him mouth to mouth, like a momma bird feeding her young.

No matter how hard he tried to forget that, every time she brought out meet, that embarrassing memory came back. Damn it. Meat was a delicacy and now he would never be able to look at it the same!

Now he was seeing the wild woman acquiring yet more of what his people desired, and so easily too. Though without hunters in these lands, wild game must be aplenty for her to acquire.

"Hey, shouldn't we be getting back to that tree fort of yours? The sun is going to be coming up."

Again, he was met with the dull stare.

"It's amazing your kind has survived this long at all, if you have yet to realize I don't understand your manner of speech. I thought since we seem to be of a similar species, you were capable of adapting, but I have yet to witness any improvement."

Fucking woman! Muttering in that strange tongue again. It wasn't even any of that Oriental stuff either. How the hell could he communicate with her if they couldn't speak?

Damn woman wasn't even making an effort to hide herself either! Put on a cloak at least! It was hard enough looking at her without turning red! He could only turn his face to the right too. It was still painful to look left and…see the lack of what was there.

Jonah was brought out of his musings and the woman started gathering dried leaved and twigs and carrying them into the…underground fort.

Leaving him alone…unattended.

Damn it all! She didn't even consider him a threat! This female defiantly didn't go easy on a man's pride. She was just being insulting now!

…But it wasn't like he could just walk off. Never mind that he didn't have his gear anymore, it having not survived his last encounter with the Titans, but his right arm was still tied to his back and his…left stub of an arm, while not tied, wasn't any good at assisting him either.

He'd be dead by sunrise.

While Jonah was lost in his musings, the red head had finished transferring the smoking meat inside to finish drying away from predators. Most of the work had finished outside, the rest of the process could safely occur in her den now.

So it was to the sight of the kneeling woman before him that met Jonah's sight when he returned from his musings. Only to fall backwards in a vain attempt to back away from the breasts a mere foot from his face.

"Damn it, woman! Don't you have any sense of decency? Or even shame?"

She only blinked before standing, revealing even more of herself, and pointed to the den, signaling it was time for him to return.

"Yeah, yeah. No need to be so pushy."

"Yeh, yeh."

Jonah halted. The words had been rough, but it was almost like she had said…Jonah's musing were cut short when a small hand shoved at his back, impatient to turn in.

Had she been mimicking him?
