Chapter 21: This Is Why I Hate Mornings

SOME WEEKS LATER:

Gwen thumbed through the day's edition of the Daily Bugle.

"O'Hirn loses fight to neophyte contestants 'Spider-Man and his Amazing Friend'." she read.

Just then, she felt somebody flick the back of her ears.

"What the-"

"Boo."

Gwen rolled her eyes as Kitty went out of her phased state.

"Got ya that time!"

"No, you didn't."

Kitty glanced at her in irritation.

"So, have you seen Jubilee?"

A scream answered that question.

Jubilee had never considered herself to be too close-minded, but the scene before her was just too much. Barring her path to the kitchenette was a cat-sized thing that looked like a purple dragon.

"Help me! Somebody! Anybody!"

Gwen and Kitty bolted in.

"What's with the noise?" Gwen asked.

Jubilee pointed to the thing on the floor.

"Why do I see a dragon?"

"Because that is a dragon." Gwen replied.

"Lockheed! Get over here!" Kitty demanded.

The dragon drooped its head and walked over to its master, leaving Jubilee stunned in silence.

"What the-"

"Gag gift from the Thing, alright?" came Gwen's response.

Don't. Screw. This. Up.

Those words echoed through Gwen's mind as she boiled the eggs for that morning's breakfast. Jubilee, meanwhile, looked through the pantry.

"Ramen…ramen…popcorn…ramen…muesli?"

Jubilee's hand shot forward and grabbed the box of muesli, along with a pint of yogurt from the mini-fridge…only for Lockheed to walk up to her and starting rubbing up against her leg.

"Somebody get that thing away from me!"

This is why I hate mornings. Gwen thought as she stormed towards Lockheed with a rolled-up newspaper.
