It has been four months since Katara's death, and the twin's first birthday. Everyone in the family was mourning Katara' death in a different ways. Kya and Bumi went on a drunken spree for a while, but both eventually snappeed out of it. Lin was better after she cried unlike Tenzin who was an emotional wreck. He is now living his life with the "life is too short" mentality and has decided to renew his vows with Pema. Anyone who was anyone was invited to this wedding ceremony, unlike the first one which followed the rules of the Air Nation nomads. The press was going crazy. Lin and Zari recieved an invitation to go, but Lin was against going to the wedding.

"Why don't you want to go?" Zari questioned as he helped Amira pick up the toys the twins had used to day, while Lin watched the twins.

"Do you really want be to answer that?"

Zari raised an eyebrow at her.

"Fine," she said, "One, Tenzin and I used to date; And two, people are going to be obssesing over the twins. They don't need to be around that many drunk people."

"They're around Bumi and Kya all the time and I don't think people will care that much that you and Tenzin dated. You are in a relationship now."

Lin huffed as she stood up to leave, picking up the twins with her, "I am not going. I'm going to give my children a bath."

Zari watched his fiance leave and looked over to Amira who watched the fight silently.

"What?" he asked.

"Did you ever think that maybe she doesn't want to be asked about you and her?"

"Why wouldn't she want to be asked about us?"

Amira sighed, "You two have been together several years, and have two kids. Maybe they want you to put a ring on it."

Zari thought for a minute, "We could just tell them we're already engaged."

"Then she'll be asked about the wedding date."

"Oh. We didn't think about it. It was kind of just between the two of us."

"As it should be, except that you are engaged to one of the most famous people in Republic City. Your relationship isn't always just between the two of you."

Zari nodded. He got up and went to find Lin, who was putting the twins to sleep. Zari snaked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She leaned back as they watched the twins sleep.

Zari began to speak softly, "This weekend, you and I should take a trip."

"Where?"

"Surprise."

"What about the twins? And the press?"

"The twins are staying with my family and Amira has agreed to stop by and help. We tell the press a case made you unavailable for the wedding this weekend."

Lin hummed a little bit, "Just you and me?"
"Yep."

She turned to look at Zari, "I'm in."

That Friday, Lin and Zari packed up the car with their bags and the twins stuff so they could drop the twins off with Ai before they went on the trip. Zari and Lin walked up to the door and they heard a familiar dog barking.

Lin turned to Zari, "Your sister is home?"

Zari shrugged as he opened the door, "I guess."

As they walked into the parlor Ai greeted them before gushing over the twins. Zari looked up and saw Jiao trying to sneak into the kitchen before he noticed her.

"Freeze," Zari said pointing Ximon's small hand at his aunt, "what are you doing home?"

Jiao turned, "What are you doing home?"

"It's a bad idea to bring babies on romantic trip."

"You guys are going on a trip? Where?" Jiao asked a little too excitedly.

"Surprise. Answer my question or I will have Lin interrogate you."

Lin turned around and raised an eyebrow at Zari. Ai was also trying not laugh at the sibling banter.

A blush started to spread across Jiao's cheeks, "I..uh..I have a date," she stammered out.

Both Zari's eyebrows raised, "With who?" he asked slowly. Ai, having been around when Jiao has had a date before, thought it was wise she took Ximon out of his father's arms.

"A guy," Jiao said calmly.

Zari's eyes narrowed, "Does this guy have a name?"

"Yes."

"What is his name?"

Jiao looked down and muttered something.

"Repeat please?"

Jiao sighed, having given up on hiding from her brother, "Bumi."

Lin's eyebrows raised at that, but Zari turned a deep red.

"Bumi, as in your ex-boss, one of my friends, and cousin? The crazy wild, LADIES-MAN, Bumi?"

Jiao squeaked out, "Yes."

Zari took one look at his sister before spinning on his heel and saying, "I'm going to kill him."

Before he was even out of the door, Jiao grabbed him, "Wait a minute, Zar. Both Bumi and I are consenting adults. I started to date him after he retired. The only reason I didn't tell you was beacuse at the time we started dating, Bumi was still a non-bender and he didn't have a chance. We were going to reveal being a couple at the wedding; Bumi asked me to be his plus one. Also, his family doesn't know yet so could you please not tell them?"

Zari's eye was twitching so much it looked like a ticking time bomb, "YOU'VE BEEN DATING FOR HOW LONG?!"

Lin rubbed Giana's back, shook her head, and whispered, "I'm sorry for your future boyfriends. Your daddy might kill them."

After Zari managed to calm down, Lin and Zari said goodbye to the twins. They were only going to be gone a couple of days, but it was the first time they were leaving the kids over night. Both Lin and Zari had a hard time saying goodbye and Ai little dragged to two out of the house, with Zari actually kicking and screaming. Zari had hired a private car to drive them to their destination, and Lin was looking forward to spending the weekend with her fiance.

After driving for several hours, and then taking a plane, Lin and Zari arrived at their destination. Zari had tied a blind fold over Lin's eyes so the surprise wasn't spoiled, and she was growing more anxious by the minute. After he helped her off of the plane they wlaked a few feet and he turned her body facing the horizon. He slowly took the blind fold off.

Lin saw a gorgeous sunset with water shimmering below it. She looked around and realized that they were at the top of a cliff.

Zari smiled as he hugged her, "Where at the Black Cliffs. The house behind us is ours for the weekend."

Lin smiled seductively at him, "So let's make the best of it."

Later that night Lin awoke to Zari gently shaking her shoulder.

He smiled, "Come on, I want to show you something."

She threw on a shirt and some shorts and let him lead her down to the beach. The moon was shining brightly and it's reflection in the water was gorgeous.

Zari pulled Lin so she was sitting beside him on the warm sand. He reached into his back pocket and pulled put a piece of paper.

"What is that?" Lin asked.

"Legal marriage document. Do you want to sign?"

Lin looked him surprised, "You don't want a wedding?"

Zari turned towards her, "All I want is to spend the rest of my life with you. If you don't want to get married, then we can burn this paper."

Lin looked at the paper for a moment and looked into Zari's turqoise eyes, "I'll sign the paper. But, can we still do vows?"

Zari nodded as he grabbed her hand and stared into her eyes, "Lin, I love you. When we first met, I was lonely. The only reason Bumi invited me to the party was so I could meet someone. I don't think he thought the person would be you. You helped me to learn to be ok with who I am and to accept that I'm a bender. You showed me how fun, scary, dangerous, and wonderful life can be. I promise that in return, that everyday I will show you that life is wonderful, fun, and not always dangerous."

Lin chuckled at that as Zari signed the paper, "Zari, I'm not really good at emotional stuff, but I want you to know that you changed me for the better. You helped me appreciate the little things in life and open my world to new things. I am so glad you are the father of my children, and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I promise, that I will never stop loving you."

Lin signed the paper and Zari whispered, "And now, you may kiss the bride."

The next afternoon, the newlyweds were awoken from their nap by the telephone ringing loudly. Lin groaned as Zari reached to answer the phone.

"Hello?"

"Zari?" Ai said panicked.

"Yes, Auntie?" Zari asked, still kind of in a sleep fog.

"Someone...someone attacked the house. We're...we're at the hospital. Oh my god, she's dead!" Ai cried.

Zari shot up in bed and Lin moved closer to listen in, "Ai...Ai whose dead?"

"Oh the poor young thing!"

Sickening feeling was slowly creeping over Lin and Zari's stomaches, "Ai, who died? We're on our way back. Are the twins alright?"

"Amira died. That man murdered her."

"Ok Ai, hang on. We'll be there as soon as we can."

He and Lin both quickly put some clothes on, grabbed their bags, and quickly made their way back towards Republic City.

They ran up the stairs to fine Ai and one of Zari's aunts sitting in the chair. Ai was in shock. The twins were mostly just scared, and a healer was checking them out. They calmed down once they were in their parent's arms. A bender had bent a piece of metal into Amira's chest and she died at the hospital.

Zari looked at his Aunt and asked, "Did anyone tell her son yet?"
Ai shook her head, "I couldn't break his heart. I tried to find some family to come pick him up, but he only had his mother. Child services is on their way."

Zari nodded as he rubbed Ximon's back. He glanced at Lin and gestured with his head that he wanted to tak privately.

She stepped over and he began to talk, "1) We should tell Yen that his mother is dead, 2) we should adopt him."

"We just got settled with the two kids!"

"Lin, he is alone. We are the only other people he really knows."

Lin looked at the blissfully ignorant little boy and sighed, "Fine, but you are telling him about his mother."

"We can do it," Zari said as they walked over to Yen who was sitting in a chair by himself. He looked up at Zari's said eyes and asked sadly, "Did something bad happen to my mommy?"

Zari sighed as he handed Ximon to Lin and squatted down to the boy's level, "Yeah, something bad happened to your mommy. Did your mommy ever tell you what happend to your daddy?"

Yen nodded, "Mommy said he had to move to heaven, but he was always going to be with me in my heart."

Zari nodded, "Well, your daddy was getting a little lonely while he was a in heaven, so your mommy moved in with him. She didn't want to leave you, buddy, but God thought it was better that she come live with him and your daddy, while you stayed with me and Lin."

Yen nodded, "I'm going to miss her. At least daddy has a friend now."

Zari smiled sadly as he wrapped Yen in a hug, "I know buddy."
