A/N: Well, it's been more than a month since I updated last, and I'm really sorry! Apparently two people want this to continue, and, believe me, so do I, but I don't know where to take this story. I have been writing and rewriting, but I feel like it doesn't live up to the show itself.

Finally, I just got so disappointed at myself. I really wanted to work on this, and now that it's the summer, I should have more time. This is the best I could muster. It isn't exactly taking the story where I wanted it to go when I started this, but I feel so bad about not posting. I mean, I used to stay up late writing and writing because I knew exactly what to do, but I'm just not sure about the last few chapters.

This is kind of a mix of several different plots that I was going to spread out, but it's been a month, and you guys deserve it. This chapter visits almost everybody's current problem.

I also added some happy parts, so let me know what you think of those. I really do want to know what you think. Again, I'm sorry. Here's chapter 21. I hope you like it!

"Well now, honey, that wasn't a long story at all!" The blind woman told Emma.

"It was a sweet story, though," the hospital patient added.

Emma had just told the story that had been burned into her brain the second she met Sutton. It was about how Sutton and her own life would've been, had they grown up with each other in foster care. She would've told the story of if they grew up together with the Mercers, but that story could still happen.

"...not the ending, Beau," The couple had been talking, but Emma only caught that one part.

"What about the ending?" Emma asked.

"Oh, hon, the story was sweet, but not the ending," the woman said in response. The ending was when Emma had started her real story. She hadn't meant to, but, at that point, she started feeling sad about how her life turned out instead.

"Now why do you say that?" Beau asked, directing his question towards his wife.

"Beau," the woman, who's name Emma still did not know, sighed. Before she continued, he interrupted her.

"Jay, you were young," Beau murmured, clearly not wanting Emma to hear. She turned away respectfully, but still listened, overcome with curiosity.

"And it wasn't sweet then. This lovely girl is young, too. Do you think it's sweet for her?"

"Sweet for her? Jay. It was a story!"

"No! Beau, you can't just make that up! The poor girl was almost crying! And I supposed to say it was sweet? Because a story without a happy ending isn't 'sweet!'" Jay's voice rose out of anger.

"Without a happy ending? Jay, what am I here for, then?" Beau said in an attempted calm voice.

"This isn't about you!" Jay was almost yelling. Luckily for her, the door leading to the waiting room was right next to her, so Jay was able to leave quickly. A nurse walked in as soon as Jay left and seemed to be looking for something.

Emma hesitated, unsure if she should bring up what happened with a nurse present. "I-I'm sorry if... If I brought any of this on. I was just-"

Beau sighed. "No, no, I'm sorry. You were just telling your story. I brought it on."

"What... What happened?" Emma asked cautiously.

Beau sighed again. "It's a long story."

"Like, Moby Dick long, or 'Once upon a time, there were these twins' long?" Emma asked, bringing a small smile to Beau's tired face.

"Okay, but don't take this as a warning for your life. Jaclyn... Jay, as she likes to be called, was like you."

The tears splashed down Sutton's cheek. She was still parked in the diner parking lot, and, even though the tears blurred her vision, she knew someone had seen her crying. Sutton heard knocking on her window, confirming her previous suspicion.

"Are you okay?" A muffled voice exclaimed. Sutton wiped her eyes, embarrassed that someone saw her in a weak state of mind, even though she didn't know the man standing at her window.

"I'll get help!" The man yelled, then proceeded to run inside the diner. Sutton watched as he spoke to the waitress that had waited on her a few minutes earlier. Sutton was about to drive away, embarrassed more so now, when the unlocked passenger door was pulled open and someone jumped into her car.

Ethan stood in the hall. A few minutes ago, he had been passed by a blind woman who was clearly furious. He couldn't decide whether or not to talk to Emma. He had made a promise to Dan, but everyone insists that he's done wrong. And a lot has happened that he felt terrible about.

After deciding that he would just check and see if she was okay, a nurse stepped out of Emma's shared room and stopped him.

"My apologies. You may not go in. They are both asleep, cannot be disturbed," The nurse used kind words, but spoke with a hostile voice. Through the door that the nurse had left open, though, Ethan could hear a man's voice.

"But I can here voices," Ethan responded. He didn't exactly want to go at first, but if this woman is lying, then something might be wrong with Emma. He had to make sure she was okay.

"This is not hospital for that problem," the nurse said sarcastically. "If you need nothing else, please leave. Miss Mercer will not be up until tomorrow. You do not need to fill waiting room waiting for tomorrow. You need sleep and all beds here are occupied." The nurse paused and smiled at her own joke.

"But, um, what about Laurel Mercer?" Ethan asked as the nurse pushed him out the automatic doors.

"Tomorrow," was all the nurse said as she made her way to the waiting room.

Baz stood up at the sight of Laurel's nurse and walked towards her.

"Hi, um, can you tell me anything about Laurel?" Baz asked.

"You were with Dr. Mercer earlier, yes?" Before Baz could answer, the nurse continued. "His daughter is fine. She had been under medication when speaking with Dr. Mercer. Her heart rate was already low, so when Dr. Mercer delivered news, rate dropped. She is not awake."

As Baz tried to fit her tired words into real sentences, she continued. "You should leave. She not well until tomorrow."

Baz blinked. "She's not well? I thought you said she was fine."

"She fine tomorrow," the overworked nurse murmured, pointing Baz towards the door. As Baz left, the nurse made her way to a private room.

"They left. They be back tomorrow for girls," the nurse mumbled. She reached out and grabbed the fifty dollars from the hand poking out of the thick, blue cast.

"I need to go to Los Angeles," Mads yelled into her phone when Ethan picked up.

"What? Mads, where are you?"

"Outside of the police station," Mads responded.

"Why are you outside of the police station?" Ethan asked curiously.

"Why aren't you with Emma?" Mads said, dodging her question.

"How do you know that?" Ethan responded.

"Ethan, would you really be with her right now?"

"I was trying, but Laurel's nurse told me to leave and that she was sleeping."

"What was Laurel's nurse doing in Emma's room?" Mads continued.

Ethan sighed. "Mads. Why are you at the police station? You didn't tell them, did you!?"

"No! Why would I?" Mads asked.

"Just... Why did you call if you won't answer my question?"

"Jordan was moved to a jail in Los Angeles and I need to go get him," Mads blurted out.

"Mads, you don't need to! Jordan killed his brother!"

"No, I need to! Just like Emma needed to get you out!"

"It's not the same thing, Mads! Jordan admitted to you that he killed his brother! I didn't kill Derek!" Ethan yelled into his phone, getting mad.

"No, Ethan! What if he didn't? What if he just thinks he did?" Mads said, not convincing Ethan or herself.

"Then he thinks he's guilty! He is going to court, Mads, and probably soon. If he thinks he's guilty, which he probably is, he won't have a good case!"

Mads was almost crying. "That's why I need to go! I need to get him before he talks to any judges or lawyers!"

Ethan sighed again. "Mads... Fine. But you can't go alone."

"Why not? I can't go with Laurel or Emma because they're in the hospital. I can't go with Thayer because he's probably crazy. I can't go with Sutton because I hate her!" Mads wiped away the falling tears, realizing she had almost no one.

For about a minute, no one talked. Ethan knew why he couldn't go with Mads, but he didn't want her to go alone.

"Ethan?" Mads whispered, her voice shaky.

"Yeah?" He responded.

"Your Jeep just pulled into the parking lot."

A/N: I just wanted to ask you guys some questions! First, in the next chapter, do you want me to tell you the entire story of Jay and Beau, or just mention the important parts? Yes, that story has important parts.

Secondly, do you guys like where the story is going? Maybe it isn't exactly matching the show, or it isn't spread out enough. Constructive criticism is welcomed!

And lastly, would you be fine with one of the main characters dying? The story will end differently depending on that death...

I really do hope you enjoyed this chapter! Please review and I'll try to continue! I really will!
