Hello peoples! I know it's been such a long time since I updated and I'm really sorry for that but I do have a life and it has been constantly getting in the way of me writing these one shots. But here I am, I was watching Battle of the Five Armies on Netflix and the scene between Tauriel and Legolas at Gundabad came up and tears nearly came to my eyes at Legolas mentioning his mother. So I decided to write this based on that scene between them. I hope you all like it! (They might seem a bit ooc in this, sorry for that. Still trying to get into the rhythm of things).

I apologize for any grammatical errors, missing words and spelling mistakes – all elvish translations will be at the end of the story.

Legolas briefly looked at Tauriel and then directed his gaze to the ground, "there is no grave, no memory... Nothing." He had never discussed his mother's death with anyone before, not his father, not Tauriel. No-one. Which explained the look of sadness and sympathy Tauriel gave him, she had too lost her parents but everyone knew about that, Legolas included. So to know that his mother died in a battle long ago and that he had no memory of her saddened her heart. Legolas looked up again at her and his blue eyes bore into her forest green ones, and it was like she could read all the emotions that poured out in that one look. She tentatively reached up and cupped his cheek with her small delicate hand, his jaw was cold to the touch, her thumb ran gently across it, "amin hiraetha mellon. You never said anything. I am so sorry."

Legolas gave a hint of a smile when she touched his face; to elves touches were a special thing, unlike men who were accustomed to greeting and comforting each other with touches, elves comforted and greeted each other with their words so the touch was greatly appreciated. He reached up and took that hand in his, he held her hand absent mindedly looking at her palm, tracing the small lines. An involuntary shudder went through Tauriel as he traced the lines on her palm, she looked at him, studying his face. His mother's death suddenly explained everything, it was the reason why Thranduil was the way he was, it was why Legolas had been so closed off to everyone... Everyone except her. Legolas had always been open to Tauriel, but she had always noticed that he acted slightly cold towards some others, those blue eyes could be steely if they wished. When they turned towards her though, his features softened and she knew why. She wasn't a child anymore (despite what others might say) she knew that Legolas had in fact grown 'fond' of her as Thranduil had said, Tauriel also knew that she couldn't let her own feelings get the best of her when it came to Legolas, his father; her King didn't approve and ultimately there was nothing that she could about that, nothing would ever be able to happen between them.

Legolas looked up at Tauriel again, and a slight blush came to her cheeks, slightly embarrassed that she had been caught out staring. He smiled as the colour rose to her face. What Legolas was about to do was a bold move, but he wanted to, he couldn't help himself, he had shown so much restraint over the past few years but here and now...was something else. Whether it was because it was the first time he had been in a vulnerable state or because they were about to walk into a fortress that offered nothing but death, he didn't know. All Legolas knew is that he wanted to kiss her, so he leaned in closer, and his lips hovered over hers, giving her a chance to pull away, to say no, to say anything and when she didn't he kissed her, and they kissed again...and again...and once more before Tauriel placed a hand on his chest, stopping Legolas from continuing to kiss her.

"That... Can't happen again Legolas," Tauriel whispered after she had caught her breath. Then suddenly out of the corner of her eye she say movement, "what was that? A light! I saw a light," she said in a hushed tone and they peered over the rocks. "if we are to go we must go now." They got ready to run down the hill when a flurry of bats flew over them, and then a orc horn rang out of the mountain side, followed shortly by rows and rows of orcs marching out of the fortress gates.

"We must warn the others! Tauriel," he ordered her to follow him back to his horse and they rode as fast as his horse could back to Dale, where the humans were.

The battle happens as shown in the film and we continue after Legolas announces that he is leaving...

Legolas had saddled his horse and was making his way through Dale, when a flash of red caught his eye. He looked over to see Tauriel be taken away by elven guards. Legolas rode his horse out and stopped in front of the guard so they could go no further, "what is this? Why is your captain in chains? Release her. Immediately," he commanded.

"While it is not my place to disrespect you Hir nin, your father has ordered Tauriel to be taken back to the Greenwood, where she will be held accountable for her actions."

The one look from Tauriel told Legolas to let them pass, he did so very reluctantly but went looking for his father not a second later. He was told Thranduil had returned to Mirkwood, so Legolas followed him back, he would not stand for Tauriel to be imprisoned for whatever crime his father thought she had committed. Legolas skipped any pleasantries once he arrived at Mirkwood and went straight to the King's chambers, "what is this? Why have you locked Tauriel away? Release her ada," Legolas demanded to know, he wanted a good solid reason as to why Tauriel was marched away like some prisoner of war.

"I do not have to explain myself to y-"

"You're wrong! You do. You owe me an explanation. You owe Tauriel an explanation. After everything she has been through you lock her away like you would the dwarves! Answer me! Why is she locked away?" Legolas could not contain his anger about the situation any longer.

"She directly disobeyed my orders and you would do well to remember your place, my son," Thranduil hissed, "I do not take disloyalty lightly. We have all been through a lot, but they must be reminded about what happens to those who cross me."

"She has lost one she loves, you banished her, you threatened to kill her, and you would have driven your sword through her heart had I not been there. So yet again I stand in your way and I will not move."

"Yes she lost her little dwarf, one she proclaimed to love. But why do you care? She is nothing more than a friend, just another elf, she is not your kin Legolas."

"Ada, amin mela he..." Legolas knew that Thranduil had some idea that he was in love with Tauriel, but now he had said it out loud to him, nothing his father said would change his mind about Tauriel.

"She is not one of us Legolas. You will not pledge yourself to a Silvan elf. I forbid it."

Legolas took a deep breath and tried again, "I am asking you father to release her, as your son whom you claim to love. She is my love, she hold my heart, just as mother once held yours, she does not deserve this. She has been nothing but loyal to you for all these years, or have you forgotten?"

Thranduil seemed to retreat back into his room and dismissed Legolas with a wave of his hand, he wanted to hear no more on the subject of Tauriel.

Legolas left his father's chambers and went to his own. He shed his clothes, bathed and got changed into something more comfortable. He sat on his bed, thinking about Tauriel and what he could do to help her, he was definitely not going to abandon her now. Legolas was certain there would be a party tonight for the victory of the battle, and more importantly for the fallen elves. He would surely have a chance to see her then, when everyone was upstairs, away from the dungeon. So he waited, and waited until night fell and the festivities began. He made an appearance and paid respect to the families who had lost their loved ones, and then as soon as he could Legolas slipped away to the lower levels of Thranduil's halls.

Tauriel had been led to the dungeons, the same ones that the dwarves had been held in, and was isolated from the other elves for the whole day. No-one had come to see her, well, she had hoped one blue-eyed, blond haired elf would come see her, but still nothing. Perhaps Legolas had left to go North as he said he would. It...saddened her to think that he had left without saying goodbye, without saying anything. So she sat against the walls in her cell looking out, listening to the noise coming from above, another party, of course Thranduil wouldn't pass an opportunity up. She thought bitterly, the waiting was killing her more than anything, she wanted to know what her fate was to be, instead Thranduil would spend his time drinking the night away. She sighed and tried to get comfortable in the confined space. Hours passed when she finally heard the faint paces of someone descending the stairs, most likely a guard bringing her food or water, or perhaps Thranduil had decided to grace her with his presence. The last person she expected to see walk around the corner was Legolas. "Legolas? Mellon, I thought you had left. What are you doing here?" She rose from the ground and gripped the steel bars with her small hands, suddenly despising the bars for standing in between them, standing in between the comfort that she craved, the comfort that she knew Legolas would provide.

"I came for you. I have spoken to my father but he is...stubborn, as you know. I will not leave you here, I will make sure he sets you free. I am sorry it has taken so long," he placed his hand over hers on the bars, "are you alright?"

"Amin tereva. I just wish the King would get whatever he has planned over and done with."

"Are you warm enough? Well enough? I can bring more food and blankets if you wish," it pained Legolas to see her behind the bars, so he wished to make her as comfortable as possible.

"I'm fine here. I appreciate what you're doing."

"I can find the guard, I can stay here with you tonight and keep you company."

"No. No. Sleep in your own bed, I will be alright tonight."

So Legolas stayed with Tauriel for the rest of the evening, until around midnight, when she said she was starting to tire, "I will be here as soon as I can in the morning with an answer from my father, I promise," he insisted as he got up from the ground.

"Do not make idle promises young prince," a voice came from the shadows. The elf stepped forward and revealed himself to be Thranduil. "So, here we have two young lovers, or do I get the sense that this is a more one sided love," he uttered, it was apparent that the king had been drinking like everyone else, if not more.

Legolas looked at Tauriel. Tauriel looked back to Legolas, not Thranduil, when she gave her answer, "I have grown to love you Legolas, and I wished for nothing more than to pledge myself to you. However, my king did not allow me to pursue my feelings, he said nothing would ever come of it, and I am sorry that he dictated my feelings for you."

His gaze softened, "you have nothing to be sorry for." Legolas looked back towards Thranduil, with a look of hurt and betrayal. "How could you have done that to me? Ada you knew of my feelings for her and yet you still tried to drive a wedge between us."

Thranduil raised his head, he had never meant to hurt his son and his accusations did hurt him, "indeed..." was the only response he gave. He began to move away when Legolas stopped him.

"Stop. If you are going to keep Tauriel locked up, then I want you to look at her... Look at her and tell her, tell us that we cannot be together."

Thranduil stopped and looked back towards the two young elves, he stood there and looked at them both for a few minutes, before throwing something to Legolas and then leaving, this time without interruption.

Legolas caught the object, he looked at it in his palm. It was the key to Tauriel's cell, he wasted no time in unlocking the cell door and getting Tauriel out of the dungeons. "Come, we'll get you cleaned and you can sleep in a proper bed." He led her to his own room, he drew a bath for her and left to get her some clothes while she washed. When he got back Tauriel was wrapped in a towel, waiting for some fresh clothing, "here. I'll give you some privacy," Legolas went to his bed and sat down, waiting for Tauriel to join him.

Tauriel joined him shortly, and they both lay down on Legolas' bed, his arms wrapped around her, her head on his chest. They lay there for a long time, without saying anything, purely enjoying the quiet, peaceful moment that they had earned. Tauriel looked up at him, "diola lle ten' iluve. What is to become of us now?"

Legolas looked back down at her and nudged his nose against hers, placing a soft kiss on her head, "mani oio lle irma. I will not let anyone or anything come between us again." Tauriel nodded lay her head on his chest again, and quickly fell asleep. And for sixty years Legolas kept that promise. They stayed together, lived together and when needed fought together. When the time came for Legolas to depart to Rivendell, it was sad time for them both but Tauriel knew he would find his way back to her.

He always did.

Fin. Sorry if the ending seemed a bit rushed. Let me know what you thought of the chapter! I've found my muse for this story again, mainly because the extended edition of the film comes out in a month and I'd really like to write more chapters for it, so throw some ideas at me and I'll sift through the ones that I think I could work with. What do you guys want to see Tauriel and Legolas go through together? Please don't be afraid to write reviews and tell me what you want me to write, I'm open to a lot of things! (Except smut).

Amin hiraetha – I'm sorry
