21. Omake: Nicknames Pt1

A/N: Another Omake, this time covering the origins of the names "Little Firefly" and "Dark Sky Angel" for Romeo and Chelia.

Nicknames Pt.1

Time changes all things. Countries, people, beliefs, and even the geography of the world itself are all doom to be altered by the flow of it. One of the things greatly affected by the unstoppable force sometimes nickname, Father Time, are words and their meanings. What was meant to be degrading and insulting at first can, over the periods as long as centuries, decades, years, or sometimes as short as days, weeks, or even months can become a term for affection and loving. Romeo Conbolt and Chelia Blendy are a great example of this, as the pet names that have for one another have a much different origin than what most people would think.

Romeo found himself lost in the changing landscape as the train he was currently on was moving toward its destination of Margaret Town, the home of Lamia Scale. Master Makarov wanted to thank Guild Master Ooba for the support she has shown Fairy Tail over the years when they were all the decline and Romeo, his father, Wendy, Gray, Juvia, Carla, and Happy, decided to come along with them. While Wendy was catching up on some sleep since the dance mission from last night tired her out, everyone else was having idle chatter.

At least, they were until Happy decided to act like….well, Happy.

"Heeeeeyyyyy, Romeo", the blue exceed said as he hovers over the boy, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Technically, you already did", Romeo replies as he looks up, "What is it?"

"Where did the nickname "Little Firefly" come from?"

…

Romeo stares blankly at Happy for a few seconds and Happy thought for a moment that he briefly saw him twitch, "Why do you want to know?"

"Well, I figure, if I start calling Carla by a nickname, she'll come to love me as Chelia loves you", Happy explain causing Romeo's eyes to widen in surprise. He then put his hand on his chin in thought as he started muttering to himself.

"Is that what started it? Was it the name-calling that cause all of this somehow?", Happy heard him say.

"Um, Romeo?", the exceed ask. This seems to shake the boy out of his thoughts as he turns his attention back toward the exceed.

"Sorry, Happy. I was just lost in thought."

"About what?", Happy wonder.

"How our nicknames for one another came to be. I forget sometimes that you weren't there to witness the start of our relationship", Romeo explained, "But the names "Little Firefly" and "Dark Sky Angel" actually started out as insults."

Happy's jaw drops slowly until it could extend no more, "R-really?"

Romeo shakes his head up and down, "Yep, it was around a few months after we met each other…", as the boy's mind began to drift off back to days gone by.
