Emma's POV
I struggled, kicked, and screamed as Marcus dragged me towards the sleek black car that was at the end of the road. I wanted to run, I wanted to fight, but no matter what I did, he would just hold me back with his super strength. It was pointless to even try getting out of his grasp.
"Shut up." He groaned as I continued to wiggle around his hold and I glared at him as he threw me into the back of the car. I thought that if I could just get the door open then maybe I would be able to use my super speed and run back to the house, but I guess Marcus thought of everything, and quickly locked the doors so I couldn't do anything but sit there and pout. "Let's go before they see something's up." he said and the man at the front wheel just nodded with a smug smile on his face before turning on the car and driving off.
"You're Douglas." I said while looking at the man and his eyes went wide as I said his name, if you're wondering how I did that, then you should know that it had a something to do with hacking into my dad's software and looking at his past records. "You're uglier in person." I said after a few moments of silence.
"You should learn to be quiet girly." He said and I rolled my eyes as I leaned back in the seat, "Now, before I end up killing you by driving this car into a ditch, why don't you tell me a little bit about what you're doing with the Davenports." He said and I smirked before crossing my arms across my chest.
"I told you, she's stubborn." Marcus said and the only response I gave him was a swift kick to the back of his chair, he was such a moron sometimes. "I'm serious, dad this girl won't answer any of your questions." He said and my eyes went wide.
"Ew, I don't want you as a cousin." I said and there eyes went wide. I quickly slapped a hand over my mouth and sunk back in my chair, "I shouldn't have said that." I muttered to myself and Marcus just started laughing uncontrollably.
"You're dating your cousin, that's priceless." He said and I just looked at him with wide eyes before looking over at Douglas, he could not be serious, my dad told me that I wasn't related to Chase in anyway, he would have told me if we were cousins!
"You're Emma Davenport?" Douglas asked and I nodded, his smirk turned into a frown as he pulled into some random house and I desperately tried to read what the expression on his face meant, what was going on around here? "Come with me, Marcus, make sure she doesn't run off." He ordered and Marcus just nodded before grabbing my shoulders and pulling me out of the car.
"Ok now, no need to get physical." I grumbled as I got up off the ground, he just rolled his eyes, but helped me up anyways. He gently grabbed onto my shoulders and steered me to the backyard where Douglas had already opened the morphing wall, "Oh, I'm starting to get a sense of deja vu." I said and Marcus rolled his eyes before pushing me forward.
"Emma, I would like you to see something, something that might help you think differently about that so called family of yours." Douglas said and I raised an eyebrow at him as I walked over to where he was standing.
I looked at the computer screen for a moment before recognizing a picture of two babies, it was Danny and I. I just smiled at the pudgy face that Danny used to have and looked at Douglas with a confused expression on my face.
"This is your DNA code that I got from the hospital you were originally born in, and this is a DNA sample from Donald." He said while pulling up two files, "They should show similarities since your his daughter, but that's not tha case." He said and my eyes widened as I saw what he was talking about. "Emma, did your dad ever tell you about you being adopted?" He asked and I just shook my head, shock written over my face.
This couldn't be happening, I couldn't be adopted! But for some reason, a small piece of me told me that this was the truth, that my dad wasn't really my dad, I had known it all along I had just never thought about it before.
"It says here you were born on April 15th 1998, your mother dropped you two off at the orphanage only two days later. At the age of three months my brother, Donald Davenport, adopted you and your brother." He said and I just let my head fall into my hands as I put my elbows on the desk.
"This can't be happening." I whispered, I felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest and my brain was going to go on overdrive. How could I be so stupid, I'm the smartest person in the world and yet I can't even figure out that my dad isn't even my dad!
"Emma, you ok?" Marcus asked and I just let a tear slip down my face as I tried to hold back the sobs that were probably fighting there way to get out.
"I can't believe he lied to me." I whispered as I looked at the screen, it was a recent picture of my dad, my brother and I all standing outside my school with huge smiles on our faces it was when he picked us up after school one day. Bree took it saying that it was just oozing with family love, but I didn't really think so anymore.
"This is what he does to his family, he lies, he cheats, and he doesn't care about their feelings." Douglas said and I looked up at him for a second before looking back at the picture, he was right, my dad didn't care about anybody but himself. "Come with us, we can help you." He said and I just kept staring at that picture.
If I went with them that would mean I would give up my entire life, or at least the life I had built over the past few months, and the people that I had met along the way. Sure my dad had been an ass hole, but I couldn't just leave everyone else.
I couldn't leave Chase. . .
"No." I said while standing up straight, "I don't care if I'm adopted or not, I don't want your pity, and I don't want to join you, that's my family no matter what some DNA test says." I said while pointing at the screen and he just glared at me before snapping his fingers. But nothing happened so he snapped them again.
"Marcus." He said impatiently and Marcus just snapped out of his daze before looking at his dad, "Throw her in the cage." He said and I yelped as I was picked up off the ground, and I had to say, the almost healed burns on my stomach did not like it one bit.
"I'm sorry Emma." He whispered as he set me down and I looked at him for a second before frowning, he looked so ashamed, like after what he heard he didn't want to do this to me.
"Don't even think about getting out, those beams are made of pure plasma filled glass rods, one touch and you'll get an electric shock so bad that you won't even be able to feel your hand for an hour." He said with a laugh and I rolled my eyes as the blue rods suddenly showed up around me.
"Help." I whispered as I looked over to Marcus, but he was just looking down at his feet, an unreadable expression on his face.
"Marcus, watch her, I don't want her to go anywhere, I don't want her to get in contact with anyone." He said and Marcus just nodded slightly before going back to his stoic self. Douglas just sent one last glare my way before walking out the door in all his evil egoness.
"Marcus, you need to get me out of here, I know that's your dad but that doesn't mean you can't be a good person, just let me out!" I shouted as soon as Douglas left.
"I can't." He said whlie looking up, he had tears in his eyes and I just wanted to hug the life out of him at how sad he looked, "Emma, if I do that I'll never here the end of it, my dad will never look at me the same way again." He said and I frowned.
"I'm sure he would get over it." I said but he just shook his head as he ran a hand through his hair, slightly pushing back the hair on his forehead and making his shirt rise just a little. That was enough to let me see the bruises. "Marcus, did he do that to you?" I asked as I looked at the bruise forming on his temple.
"It's none of your business Emma." He said while walking over and sitting down in the chair in front of his dad's computer. "You wouldn't understand." He whispered.
"Marcus, did he do that to you?" I asked again, this time more command in my voice. He just looked over at me for a second before sighing and looking back at the computer.
"Yes." He said after a few moments of silence and I felt my breath hitch in my lungs, "When I don't do well on a mission or if I don't do well in training he gets angry, and when he gets angry he needs to hit something, so that's usually me." He said while folding his hands in his lap.
"Marcus, you can't let this happen to you." I said, trying to reason with him but the look he gave me told me everything. He was too afraid to stand up against Douglas. "Marcus please, I know you're a good person, just say that the bars malfunctioned and I got out before you could even look over your shoulder." I said and he looked at me to see if I was lying.
"I'm not sure about this Emma." He said and I just shook my head while looking at him.
"Marcus, I promise, if you come to school tomorrow and Douglas has beaten you, then I will personally come back down here and kick his ass." I said and he smiled, "Marcus, please." I said and he looked at me for another second before nodding.
"Ok, but promise that you won't compare me to him anymore, I don't want you to think I'm some evil pysco because of my dad." He said and I nodded. He pressed a button on the computer and I smiled as the bars went down. I super sped over to him and surrounded him in a huge hug.
"Promise me you'll tell me if this happens to you again." I said while pointing to the spot on his forehead where the bruise was. He just smiled before nodding and removing my hands from his face. "I'll see you tomorrow, I promise I won't think of you as a monster." I said and he smiled before nodding.
"Be careful, I don't know where my dad is." He said and I nodded before turning invisible, "Or you could do that." He said and I laughed before running out of the building as fast as I possibly could. I had to get back home, I had to talk to my dad about this.
As soon as I got outside I became visible and super sped over to my house as fast as I possibly could. And with super speed that was like two seconds tops.
"Emma, where were you?" Danny asked as he sat on the couch and I just tapped my temple before going to sit beside him. He just nodded and I felt that familiar presence inside my head as he read my thoughts, "I guess he really isn't that bad of a guy." He said and I nodded, Marcus wasn't bad, just misunderstood.
"Yah, he's actually pretty nice." I said and suddenly his smiled turned into a frown.
"Is it true?" he asked and I just raised an eyebrow at him, "Is it true we're adopted?" He asked and I frowned before looking down at my feet and nodded, "Well, I guess we should have expected that considering on our birth certificates it says Emma and Danny Cater." He said with a laugh.
"Are you seriously not freaked out by this?" I asked as I threw my hands up in the air, "Dad lied to us, he never even bothered to tell us this and you're acting like it's not big deal!" I shouted and he winced as he covered his ears. "Danny, do you understand how horrible this could actually be!" I screamed, but of course, the others chose that exact moment to walk into the room.
"Hey Em." Chase said while walking over to me and pecking my cheek, but I was way to angry at Danny right now, he was acting like this wasn't a complete life changing situation.
"Emma, is there something wrong?" Dad, no he's not our dad, Mr. Davenport, said as he took a step closer to me and I just glared at him as I took a step away from him. Bree had taken a seat next to Danny and was leaning against him as she looked at me with a confused expression. Leo was looking between me and Mr. Davenport. Chase was holding onto my hand like it would keep me from lashing out, and Adam. . . he was staring at a spoon in his hand.
"I don't know Mr. Davenport, why don't you ask our parents." I said while taking another step back, I wanted to be as far away from his possible right now. The look on his face was priceless though as he realized what I just said.
"Emma just called Mr. Davenport, Mr. Davenport." Adam said with a shocked expression on his face, oh so he was paying attention after all.
"Emma, are you sure you're ok?" Chase whispered in my ear and I just looked over at him with a sad look on my face before letting a tear slip down my cheek. He just took my face in his hands and wiped away the tear before pulling me into his arms.
"Dad, when were you going to tell us?" Danny asked and Bree just raised an eyebrow at her new boyfriend.
"Danny, what are you talking about?" She asked and I frowned as I looked up from Chase's shoulder to see Danny with a relaxed expression on his face. How could he be so calm at a time like this?
"I can be calm Emma because I can read minds, I've been suspecting this for years." He said and I rolled my eyes as I shifted in Chase's arms so I was looking at my dad while still leaning into Chase, "Don't mind her guys, she's over reacting." He said and I glared at him.
"Well I'm sorry, but we can't all read minds, sometimes we have to guess what people are hiding from us." I said while glancing at Mr. Davenport.
"I'm sorry Emma." He said while sitting down on the couch and putting his head in his hands. "You probably hate me now don't you?" He asked and I shook my head.
"Just disappointed." I muttered before looking up at Chase, "Don't worry about me ok?" I asked and he nodded before leaning down and pecking my lips. I just smiled as I folded away from his arms and walked down the hall and to my room, but before I left I turned around at the doorway and looked back at my "dad" "I thought you would at least trust me enough to tell me."
So there it is, I hope you like the whole their adopted thing, it was one of the best ways to make sure Emma and Danny weren't related to Bree and Chase, but anyways. I hope you guys liked it, and don't forget to REVIEW! REVIEW! REVIEW!
