I know this is crazy but…
Katara's POV
"I don't understand the point of getting there an hour and a half earlier than everyone else. Seriously, how much preparation do I need?" I said irritably while my mother did my hair into a formal up do.
"Zuko asked me not to tell you, but please Katara be a bit more happy. I'm sure it would upset him to see you so upset before you even arrive." She soothed gently.
I sighed and finished applying my makeup. My family was currently getting dressed formally for the press conference. I knew our appearances had a lot to do with the media, but this was ridiculous. My mother insisted that I looked immaculate, not leaving one thing wrong with my hair or outfit. I wore a baby blue gown that was high-low, then a silver bow at my waist to hold my stomach in. To accessorize, I had silver heels and a matching blue clutch. My eye shadow was neutral, but glittered, then a simple cat eye black eyeliner to make the look perfect. My mother had braided my hair and tied it up into a bun, leaving my bangs and a few locks out to frame my face. I'm not going to lie, I looked pretty good. My mother had on a floor length navy blue dress that matched my father's tux. Sokka wore a simple grey suit and Suki had come over to help him out with his outfit. Her short hair was left as it is and a braided hair band style to make it elegant. To her lithe frame, she wore a mint green floor length dress much like my mothers, except the sweetheart cut with sliver crystals at her waist, and matching flats.
I groaned sarcastically, "Suki can you leave? You're so gorgeous the press is going to be more interested in you than me."
She chuckled swatting my arm, "Shut up, Katara. You look beautiful."
I waved my hand playfully, "Yeah, yeah you're just saying that to keep yourself on my good side."
We giggled joyfully as we finished getting ready. Suki and Sokka said that they were leaving first and that they would meet us there. I felt kind of sad that they weren't going to go with me. I suddenly felt really alone and I wanted someone to talk to besides my parents. Zuko was going to pick me up, but he said that he was still getting ready and to just meet him there. So, I carpooled with my mother and father, and sat in the back with a stomach full of butterflies.
After my mother had spoken to me about how to answer questions and to just be myself and honest, I could only fear the worst. What if I made things difficult for Zuko? What if he wanted to break up with me? What was I going to do if I couldn't answer a question correctly?
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat watching the city scenery pass us by and a building cut out the sun's rays. We had reached the parking garage a lot faster than I had hoped it would take. I still wasn't ready.
"Katara, Zuko said he's waiting for you in the lobby." My mother said happily as she reached across the car and held my fathers hand.
I took a deep breath and put on my game face. This was it. Don't fuck it up, Katara. You can do it. Just take deep breaths and you'll be fine.
I just had to remember what the story was. Just keep calm and you will be fine. I grabbed the doors handle and peaked inside, eyes immediately focusing on how much it had changed.
I gasped in astonishment.
Zuko's POV
"Mom I appreciate what you are doing, but could you please leave my hair alone!?"
She giggled holding her hands up in surrender, smiling, but away from my hair, "I just want you to look you're best."
I groaned brushing my fingers through my hair making it back into some sort of spiked style, but still formal enough for a conference. My mother had parted it down the side and attempted to give me this ridiculous virgin school-boy look, "I'm sure Katara would leave me if I wore my hair like that. Is everything ready?"
My father looked around quite proudly, "Yes I believe so. I'm surprised how much we were able to get in such short notice."
I grumbled, "Well, we had a lot of help. Remind me to take you all out for dinner as a thank you."
I turned to face everyone that helped. The few trusted employee's I had, which included Katara's favorite: Tracy, then Azula, Toph, Aang, Hahn, and Ty Lee. Then of course Mr. Bumi and Mr. Arnook. Sokka and Suki joined us thirty minutes ago to really help out before Katara and her parents arrived.
We had gone to great heights to make this perfect. Well, I did with the help of my event coordinator of a mother. We had transformed the lobby into the perfect room. The soft red couches had been moved to along the walls and small round bar tables now decorated the floor. White sheets were draped over the tables to give them some elegance, then red and blue colored marbles were in a glass vases holding a candle was lit in the center. We had strung red and blue string along the walls and thankfully the staff at Mr. and Mrs. South's kitchen made quite a lot of food on short notice. Of course with their permission. Sokka and Suki were to thank for getting the food here so quickly.
The receptionist table was transformed into a bar, where champagne and wine was sorted out along the table. I had asked for some soft drinks as well and water for those that didn't want to drink.
The room was immaculate. It was subtle, but enough feeling to get the point across that this was going to be a friendly gathering…and hopefully a party if everything went well.
The little black box in my tux pants weighed heavily and suddenly I was even more aware of what I was going to do. I took some deep breaths hoping to calm my nerves before anyone could notice. Sadly, Sokka had and made his way towards me, "Hey man, chill."
I scoffed, "Yeah, easy for you to say. You just have to answer some ridiculous questions. I have to do that and ask your sister to marry me."
He slapped me harshly on the back, "You know Zuko, any other guy and I would have killed him for even thinking about asking for my sisters hand. But, you're pretty cool and I can tell you make her happy. So, don't worry about that stuff now when you have everyone rooting for you. Don't fuck this up. No pressure."
I smiled for the first time that day and let out some steam. "Thanks Sokka, that actually means a lot."
A squeal from my mother was heard from one side of the lobby in which Sokka and I turned into its direction. "Katara's here!"
I swallowed hard and felt ridiculous all over again. I mean, this was stupid. No, it was beyond stupid it was the most idiotic thing I could have ever agreed to. There was no way in hell she was going to accept this. No, don't think about that. Steady, calm breath's Zuko. Think calmly and have some confidence. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked to my sister. Her hair was left down and wore a strapless black dress and little jewelry besides the simple silver earrings and necklace. "Zuzu, you look like you're about to shit yourself. Calm down."
I glared at her choice of words. "I do not. Yes, I'm nervous alright!? I don't know what she's going to say and this is the absolute worst way to have gone about this, but I can't think about that now since it's too late."
She rolled her eyes, "Look Zuzu, either you believe what everyone is telling you or you can stand there looking like someone whose going to pass out. Katara is hard to impress and you've managed to make her the happiest I've ever seen her."
I raised an eyebrow suspiciously, "Okay, what do you want and what have you done with my evil little sister."
She punched me in the gut and glared, "Sorry for trying to brighten the mood. I would never set her up with you of all people, but," She gave me the most sincere smile I had ever seen, "I know you're also one of the few people who will truly appreciate her for who she is. She's spirited, hardheaded, stubborn, but incredibly humble, kind, caring, and just a downright good person."
"If I didn't know any better, I would think you're almost jealous that I'm proposing to her and not you yourself." I teased.
Azula rolled her eyes grabbing Hahn's arm and pulling him close to her, "I love Katara like a sister, I already have someone." She poked her index finger into my chest harshly. "So you better treat Katara well."
I stayed silent thinking about all of Katara's personality aspects. She was feisty that was for sure. Never backed down from an argument if she felt she was right. She would never lean onto others for help even if it was given. She never once thought about herself above others. She was the first in line to help. I smiled, she was the first person to make me feel comfortable in their presence after a few moments. Her beauty was unparalleled and she had a pure heart to match. She argued with me without backing down and also put me in my place when I needed it. All in all, she was my perfect opposite and that was what made her so extraordinary.
"I can't live without her…" I finally noticed.
I heard collective chuckling and looked up realizing I had said that out loud. I blushed furiously and looked away.
"Aw you finally realized, how cute!" Shouted Ty Lee.
Aang looked to quite pissy, but smiled nonetheless. I figured he had finally given up on her. Toph punched him in the arm and smiled to me, "Bout time Sparky, you know if you fuck this up she's never coming back right?"
I shot her another glare for the inappropriate comment, "Thanks Toph, real helpful."
She chuckled, "That's what I'm here for!"
"Hey Zuko, you will be fine I mean I've worked with Katara for years and you're the only guy I've ever really seen her happy with." Hahn said with a supportive attitude. My eyes shifted to his arm around Azula's waist. The sight should have and would have bothered me if I wasn't actually pretty good friends with the guy.
"Yeah, come on be more cheerful!" Mr. Bumi shouted.
"Okay! Okay, you guys can stop now." I groaned. The last thing I needed right now was everyone in my ear. I needed to think about what I was going to say. I mean it's all about the delivery right? I took a few more deep breaths.
"Zuko, I just told Kya to let Katara know you will be in here. We are all going to the room over now. Good luck!" My mother blew me a kiss and disappeared through a door where everyone had also gone into. Everything hit me like a sixteen wheeler truck. Katara would be in here and I would have to do this right. I took deep breaths waiting for her to come through those doors. And tried not to puke, that would be very unattractive.
"It's all about the delivery." I said to myself.
Then I heard her gasp.
Katara's POV
I looked to the lobby and noticed its change. The bright red's and blues made it look like a party more than a press conference room. I looked around and finally my eyes fell on Zuko. His black suit hugged his figure nicely; I swear he was going to be the death of me. Smiling, I walked up to him when our eyes connected, "Zuko, this looks amazing! How did you get this done so quickly?"
He chuckled, "I had some help."
I tilted my head in confusion, "From who?" I looked around the lobby and noticed it was only us in the room. "Actually, where is everyone?"
He shifted uncomfortable and coughed into his hand. "I kind of asked for some privacy. I need to speak with you."
My mind raced to the issue with Jet and I grabbed his hand, "Oh, I need to speak with you too!"
"W-wait, about what?" He questioned.
I bit my lip and took a deep breath, "Actually, I think you should go first." I said quietly.
His warm palms cupped my face as he looked deeply into my eyes, "Katara mine can wait, what's wrong?"
I broke the contact and looked to the ground, my stomach twisting into all sorts of knots and confusion, "I-I know this isn't the best time with the press conference and such coming up. But…I had a bit of a problem…this morning…" I looked back into his honey gold eyes, "with Jet…"
He growled in anger and pushed me at arm's length checking for any signs of damage, "What did he do! Did he hurt you!? Why didn't you tell me!?"
I winced at the strength of his grip on my arm. He noticed it immediately letting go, looking at me with worry filled eyes. "I, I'm sorry I just didn't want to bother you with anything else, but my mom told me I needed to tell you and-"
"Katara. What did he do?" He asked sternly. I clutched the bottom of my dress before reaching into my bag pulling out the note and handing it to him.
"I heard our doorbell ring. But when I opened it no one was there. Just this." I watched his eyes scan the note and then flash in anger.
" 'I'll get you back?' Like hell he will. I'm even more sure of my decision now. That fucker I can't believe he's still going after you after everything that's happened! After today we are calling the police and getting this investigated."
I placed my hand on his cheek turning him to me, "Zuko it's okay. It's just a threat. We can call the police, I actually want to, but we have to deal with the press first. We can't let this interfere with this right now. I just thought I would let you know before you found out some other way."
He relaxed into my touch. He turned his head kissing my palm lightly then staring back at me with a burning gaze that shook my soul. I gave him a weak smile to reassure what I had just said, "Please Zuko, can we worry about one thing at a time?"
He smiled and pulled me to his chest, resting his head on top of mind and caressing my back gently, "I'm sorry. We will figure this conference out then we will handle Jet. I won't let him harm you again. I promise."
I just nodded my head and reveled in his touch. I sighed and felt the weight lift off of my shoulders. Zuko released me, cupping my face in his hands again with a serious expression etched onto his face, "Zuko what's wrong?"
"I…Katara I have to say something before this conference." He worded carefully. I just nodded and waited for him to continue. He took a deep breath and started, "What did I ask of you before you came here?"
I looked at him quizzically, "That you love me…" He smiled, "And that you wouldn't do something without really meaning it?" He nodded and I suddenly felt my stomach drop.
"Oh God, are you breaking up with me!?" I said sadly.
"Wh-What! No! I just told you I loved you why would I break up with you?" He replied quickly.
I just looked at him and let out a breath of relief, "Just with this whole press conference thing I thought maybe you would break up with me until it calms down, or you were tired of having all this 'baggage' and you didn't want to be with me anymore."
He stifled a laugh before looking down at me with a devilishly handsome smile, "Katara why on earth would I want to break up with you?" He shook his head laughing quietly, then stared into my eyes again, "Katara you are probably one of the most intriguing women I have ever met. You don't back down from an argument and you're awfully stubborn. You don't shy away from me, instead you face me head on with determination. Hell, you even put me in my place during meetings and trust me no one has ever done that before. You're the kindest and more caring person I've ever met. You don't love me because of my money and you're just as smart as me."
I snorted teasingly, "I'm smarter than you."
He rolled his eyes chuckling, "You're ruining the mood." He argued. I giggled and let him continue his spiel, "God, I love that sound. You know that I love you Katara, but I don't think you realize how much."
I blushed and brushed my fingers along his jaw, "You know Zuko, you're being awfully sweet again. What's wrong?"
He groaned and looked at me sternly, "Will you let me finish? You're awfully unaware of the mood I'm trying to create here."
This time I laughed out loud, completely amused with how hard Zuko was trying. When I finally stopped I notice him smiling at me like he just won a lottery ticket. I blushed deeply and giggled nervously, "Zuko, if you keep staring at me like that you're going to make me think you're planning something."
He pulled my hand and kissed the back like a gentleman, "Well Katara, maybe I have yet to surprise you. Will you let me finish?"
I shrugged, smiling playfully, "Sure, why not?"
He coughed and regained his composure, "Ahem, well then, as I was saying I love you a lot more than you can imagine. To be painfully honest Katara these past few months have been the best months of my whole life. You're my opposite and my equal and I can't imagine myself with anyone else."
My heart stopped when he reached into his pocket smiling broadly. I watched him pull out a little black box and fall to one knee, his eyes carefully watching mine. I gasped and brought my free hand to my mouth. The other still tucked into Zuko's, "Oh my God.."
He chuckled looking to me like the young and nervous man he was and continued what he was doing, "Katara, I know this isn't how you expected this to go, because I didn't want it to go like this either. I don't want you to think that I'm down here because of the reports and the attention that is suddenly aimed at us."
I felt my eyes swell up with tears as I watched and listened to him so carefully, my heart hammering in my chest in excitement and in nerves, "I'm down here, Katara, because I really do love you and I would be a fool to not act before it's too late. You're everything that I could possibly image in a woman and for someone who I would like to stand by my side. To share my nights with and to love for the rest of my life."
He let go of my hand and opened the tiny black velvet box to reveal a stunning yet simple blue diamond ring. He looked back to me and I knew that I looked like a mess. My tears were now falling down my face and I was hiccuping, standing there frozen watching him take a deep breath.
"Katara, will you marry me?"
His eyes shone with a love that I knew would last decades and a fear of what my answer would be. The logical part of me wanted to say no and wait. Hell, we haven't even dated or known each other for a year and it was just too soon and crazy. But, the best part was that my heart knew that he was being sincere, and that this was probably the biggest decision he has ever had to make as well as mine. I remembered what he told me today. To trust him, to know that he loves me, and that whatever he did it was because he wanted to with every fiber of his being. The very though shook my soul and I knew my answer.
"Yes…" I mumbled, the tears falling more fluidly down my face.
He stood up and looked at me, obviously trying to hold back the smile on his face, "Yes?"
I chuckled nodding my head quickly and pulling his face to mine with happy kisses, breaking it after to continuously say the word so that he knew for sure, "Yes, yes, yes a million times yes!"
If I didn't know the meaning of happiness then I knew it now, because the look on his face when it finally clicked was the best thing I have ever experienced in my life, "Yes?…YES!" He chuckled pulling me into his chest and spinning me around happily. Leaving peppered kisses along my face and neck in a giddy bout of excitement. He crushed his lips to mine in a heated and desperate plea for more. I moaned into him and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him down closer to me. When we parted, he smiled like a boy who just opened the best present and turned to a door, "She said yes!"
I watched our family and friends pool out of the room and run towards us with happy faces and the squealing from the girls. Immediately I felt Ursa and my mother hug me with tear strained faces. "Oh Katara, I am so happy for you! You've just made my son the happiest man in the world." Ursa sobbed.
"I'm pretty sure I'm the happiest person here," I giggled, trying not to cry anymore. My mother kissed my check and looked into my eyes.
"Katara, I couldn't be more happy for you! Oh, you've grown up to be such a beautiful girl." My mother cried.
I chuckled, wiping away their tears with my hands, "Mom, Ursa, really stop now we look ridiculous."
We all chuckled when Ty Lee and Suki came up next with bright smiles, "Oh my gosh Katara, you're going to get married! This is so exciting!" Ty Lee cheered.
I chuckled as Suki pulled me into a hug, "Katara, I'm so happy! We both get happy endings! We can help each other with our weddings!"
I blushed and shook my head, "Suki!"
"What it's true!" We all fell into a boisterous laughter. Azula and Toph were the next to congratulate me.
I blushed when Azula looked at me with a knowing smile, "Well, I'm surprised it took this long."
"I have to agree, I mean Zuko was head over heels for you when you walked in for that interview." Toph added.
I blushed shaking my head, "You guys!"
Azula chuckled pulling me into a hug as well, "So, sis."
I laughed happily and hugged her back, "What's up, sis?"
She chuckled and pulled away, "God, this feels so weird. I mean you're marrying my brother! But, I guess being sisters is going to be cool."
I rolled my eyes, "What are you talking about, Zula? We were always sisters!"
She smirked shrugging, "Yeah, that's true."
Toph punched me in the shoulder lovingly, I grew to realize that that was just her way of being affectionate, "You keep Sparky in line from now on got it? I won't baby him anymore, since that's now you're job."
I blushed and nodded, "Trust me, I can take him."
Azula and Toph chuckled, "Oh, we know!"
I looked over to my side trying to find Zuko and noticed him getting pats on the back from the guys and happy kisses from his mom. In which he blushed, embarrassed by how she still babied him. I chuckled when Ozai walked up to me with a smile, "Katara, I know I haven't been the nicest person since you two came out about being in a relationship. But, thank you. For being there for Zuko. I know I haven't been the best dad or the best husband, but I'll be making greater efforts to make this a happy family."
I tried to stop myself from crying again but the tears just didn't listen to me, I nodded my head and smiled, "Thank you, Ozai. That…that really means a lot to me."
A strong arm found its way around his shoulder and my father jokingly punched him in the ribs. "Why are you making my daughter cry!?"
"I didn't mean to!"
I watched them playfully joke with each other just like the long lost friends that they were. After the playful banter my father pulled me into a strong comforting hug, "Katara, you be happy you understand? I don't know much about Zuko, but he's a good guy. You could do a lot worse."
I chuckled, "Hey you're insulting my fiancé you know." The word tasted like heaven on my tongue. I blushed finally feeling it all sink in. I was his fiancé! His fiancé! I giggled joyfully like a giddy little girl when familiar warm arms found their way around my waist. I looked up to see Zuko's smiling face, pulling me away from my dad and into his arms. He was basking in it as much as I was.
"Good to know my fiancé is already protecting me from her overbearing father." I smiled widely when he used the word himself and I just couldn't help the smile and giggles that erupted from my face.
My dad groaned, "I can't help it she's my baby girl!"
My mother placed a calm hand on his shoulder and kissed his cheek. "Yes, yes, we know! Come on let me see the ring!"
I paled and looked to Zuko who groaned in embarrassment. "Shit, I knew I forgot something." He pulled the ring back out from his pocket and grabbed my left hand, sliding the ring on effortlessly and ending it with a kiss on top of the precious stone. I blushed when his eyes fell back to mine.
Toph was laughing loudly and gripping her stomach, "Oh God Sparky, seriously you forgot to put the damn ring on her finger! What the hell, that's hilarious!" She continued laughing and Azula joined in.
"Wow Zuzu, I knew you were dumb sometimes, but this really takes the cake."
Zuko pulled me back to his chest, my hand extended out to my mother and Ursa as they squealed over the ring. "Hey, leave me alone! I was too happy to hear her say yes to even think about putting the damn thing on her finger!"
Hahn putted his shoulder sympathetically. "Dude, I have to admit that was pretty bad, but hey, at least you guys get to talk about something that's never happened before when people ask!"
I elbowed Hahn off of Zuko and glared at him, "Oh leave him alone! I forgot about it too!"
This caused another eruption of laughter from Toph, "Oh God, you're both idiots. Definitely meant for each other!"
Azula, Hahn, Sokka, Suki, and Toph were literally crying from laughter whilst Zuko and I blushed furiously from the embarrassment. I leaned into Zuko's broad chest and smiled happily, "Whatever, let them have their fun. One of these days it will be their turn and they will do something stupid."
He chuckled behind me and kissed my forehead. "And we will be there to laugh at their embarrassment."
I giggled at the thought and noticed our coworkers walk towards us with smiles. Tracy was the first to approach me with a huge smile, "Katara I knew it! I knew he was going to ask you! I just knew that you two were together!"
I blushed as the rest joined us all with knowing smirks. The first was the advertisement manager Kyle who nudged Lisa Zuko's head accountant, "Yeah, Lisa, was the first to talk about it. Soon the whole business knew that there was something going on behind those doors of yours, Zuko."
Zuko blushed and shook his head, "Still, I will never understand how you guys figured it out. We were so careful!"
Lisa smiled in amusement, "I don't know maybe it was because every time you two walked anywhere you would look at her like she was the only girl in the world. Not to mention Katara was always gazing at you dreamily! I think the most prominent moment was when I went to deliver the end of the period balance sheet and caught you two making out on his chair."
My face could not grow any hotter from the mortification. We were caught in a heated embrace and neither of us knew it! I turned to Zuko glaring, "This is your fault!"
He looked at me speechlessly, "My fault!? How is it my fault!?"
I glared at him playfully, "You can't keep your hands off of me! I told you we would get caught!"
He shrugged kissing my forehead again, "You know, I didn't really care if we did. Plus, you're going to be my wife now so you better get used to them knowing."
I blushed when they laughed. They were never going to let me forget about that.
Our moment was broke when Sokka groaned, "Uh guys?"
We all stopped and turned to him pointing towards the doors. "I think they're here." I groaned and looked to the clock. It was 6:50, of course there were reporters at the doors waiting to start their questions. I leaned into Zuko's chest again and sighing heavily. He rubbed comforting circles on my hips and then brought me around and kissing me tenderly.
"We got this. Just remember what I told you to do." He turned to everyone with a huge smile, "Now I know some of us aren't the best actors," He glanced at Sokka who rolled his eyes, "But we have to stick to the same story okay?"
They all nodded and put their best poker faces on. With a smile Zuko took my hand and led me to the door. With a deep breath he looked back to me, "Okay show time. You ready."
I smiled kissing his check and raising our hands, his gripping my left, where my ring shone brightly, "Now I am."
His smile couldn't have been more infectious because I honestly couldn't smile anymore than I already was. Zuko turned back to everyone with his hand on the door.
"Okay everyone I'm opening the doors!"

CherishRedemption: HERE IS MORE I'M SO SORRY FOR MAKING YOU WAIT!~ *Throws chapter*
So for my pathetic excuse for why I haven't updated in TWO WEEKS is because of life and school.
I'm not sure if I told you guys in previous authors notes but I am receiving my AA degree and it has been a wonderful journey for me
I had exams last week and last minute tests the week before.
And when you haven't written a chapter its a bit difficult to find the time to write it.
Not only that but I am moving onto University for my bachelors degree 2 hours away from where we live. Sooo yeah I also have to get an apartment and move before January 3rd T.T
I also kind of got sucked into my other fanfic Soul Mates for Sailor Moon *hides in shame*
I'm so sorry about that
THEY JUST KEEP DEMANDING CHAPTERS!
Anyways I hope you all aren't too upset with the wait and really enjoyed this chapter!
Which leads me to my next point.
I am going to be doing things a little differently now
I've tried this out with my other fan fic and its going well.
So here it is.
I will update at least every 5-7 days for a new chapter.
However!
If we can reach a review count I will update immediately. Which means as soon as I see 10 or 15 reviews or what ever I chose for the review count I will post a new chapter right then and there. Of course if I'm by my computer.
This of course is only possible if I have a chapter ready by that time. So today I have work but later, so I will be pretty much writing fanfiction all day so I can get these chapters written and finished and ready for updates.
So I thought hey why not do it for all of them
So
Next update: 12/26
or
Get 10 reviews for immediate update
