Mutant and Proud
Chapter 21: Mystique
"You think she'll listen?" I asked as Charles and I exited the hotel, we were about to go and stop Raven from killing Trask thus preventing the dark future that Logan had come back from.
"If she doesn't we'll have to make her listen to us." Charles replied as we approached Erik and Logan who were waiting outside the hotel. Hopefully it wouldn't come down to forcing Raven to agree with us, hopefully she'd see that what she was about to do was wrong and would come back with Charles and I. "Of course we wouldn't have had to do this at all if someone hadn't changed her outlook on humanity."
"I didn't change her Charles." Erik stated I doubt the pair of them would ever work things out at this rate and go back to how they were eleven years ago.
"She wouldn't do this if she had stayed with me." Charles hissed as he got closer to Erik, this was going exactly how it had done on the plane and that could have ended a lot worse than it did.
"Will the two of you stop this, it isn't helping at all." I said stepping in-between them. "We need to stop Raven and change the future, fighting like this right now, we'll miss her she'll have killed Trask and there will have been no chance of us doing the right thing."
"She's right, let's go." Logan added as he opened the car door trying to usher us in, however they wouldn't budge so he got into the driver's seat and started the engine. But they still didn't seem to react. "We need to go."
"I don't care if you haven't made-up after all these years, be angry with one another, but if either of you jeopardize the future, so help me God I will put the pair of you six feet under. Now get in the bloody car." I hissed grabbing the pair of them by an arm and pushing them into the car, slamming the door shut and hopping into the front passenger seat.
"Nicely done." Logan commented before he drove us away from the hotel and towards the peace talks where we knew both Trask and Raven would be. I couldn't help thinking of why Raven thought this was the best course of action, why she was so adamant in killing this man. I know he was going to build robots that would eventually wipe out all mutants and turn on humanity, but why hadn't Raven tried to reason with the man and show that not all mutants are a danger to society. There were other options than just outright killing, maybe Charles was right and Erik had changed her so much, all I know is that the Raven I knew wouldn't do this. "We're here."
I looked out of the window and up at the building we were about to go into and change the future for the better in. Outside of the world's news-reporters had all gathered to report on the talks that would hopefully end yet another war, history was going to be made today, whether it was going to be good or not hinged on the next couple of minutes.
"Ready?" Charles asked as we all left the car, I nodded as I followed behind Logan as Erik strolled straight into the building. "Let's hope we can convince her out of doing this."
"If deep down she's still the same Raven I knew, then we can convince her." I reassured him it was a short walk up from the main lobby until we met some resistance in the form of the guards of the delegates that were meeting, but they were no match against Erik who dispatched them and marched straight into the room, where Trask was unveiling his new machine which could detect mutants, which had revealed Raven as one.
"Raven don't do this." I yelled as we came into the room seeing her pointing a gun at Trask, she turned towards us, confusion crossed her face as she realised it was me who was standing there.
"Laura?" she questioned in shock giving time for Erik to pull the gun towards him, I was about to explain some things to Raven before I noticed that Erik had turned the gun towards Raven as though he was about to shoot her.
"Don't Erik!" Charles shouted but Erik easily pushed him aside forcing him to the floor, had this been Erik's plan all along? Was this the reason he had agreed to help us?
"Erik don't do this." Raven pleaded as she backed away from us, the rest of the room seemed shocked silent as they witnessed the events that were about to unfold.
"I have to, you have to be stopped." Erik stated as he took the safety off the gun and was about ready to fire.
"Stop this, no one has to die." I yelled as tried to pull his arm so that he wouldn't be pointing the gun towards Raven who had backed further away. But Erik pushed me off of him and into the adjacent wall.
"This has to be done, she has to die." He yelled as he aimed for her again pulling the trigger as she broke out of the window, however it looked like Erik was able to land a shot in her leg.
"Erik stop this." I shouted as he made his way over to the window, however he ignored me and flew down to the outside where mystique was. I looked over to Charles who'd picked himself up off the floor; Logan on the other hand seemed to be reacting badly to someone in the room, one of the generals.
"Who are you? Where am I?" he started yelling as his bone claws came out from his hands, it was as if the Logan from the current time, without any knowledge of the future had returned to his body. This had just turned from bad to worse.
"They're mutants don't let them escape." Trask ordered as his machine started picking up that indeed we were mutants, I mean you could tell that Logan was one when bones had come out of his hands. The General that Logan seemed to be having a reaction to started to march over to us withdrawing his gun, I looked over at Charles thinking that he could do something, but he had no power. Logan was freaking out; I was the only one, who could do something, I just needed to believe that I could control my powers. I tried focusing on the weapons in the room hopefully making sure that they couldn't do anything against us, but all that seemed to happen was the room began shaking slightly. If only I could freeze them in time allowing us to escape and gain future Logan back, I closed my eyes trying to focus more and praying that we would get out of this.
"Laura." I opened my eyes finding Charles in front of me; he had grabbed my outstretched arm and was dragging me away from the room. I looked behind him noticing the others seemed to be frozen in time.
"Did I…did I do this?" I asked I'd never had this power before, I hadn't even seen anything like this before granted I hadn't seen a lot of other mutants abilities before.
"Yes now let's go." He said pulling me out of the room along with Logan who had regained his future self, the three of us fled the building seeing no sight of Erik or Raven, but the fountain outside the place seemed rather of interest to some of the media. As we approached it we realised that Hank was under the water restrained by some of the metal elements in the decoration, Erik must have done this as Hank had tried to defend Raven. I tried to stop time once more and was weirdly successful.
"I could get used to using that." I said as we pulled Hank free and got him over to the car before driving away. We needed to get out of here and back to the mansion; we needed to find Erik and Raven before anything else bad happened.
"I didn't know you could do that." Charles stated as Logan drove us to the airport, Hank was slowly starting to recover from his near drowning at the hands of Erik. "You seem to be regaining control over your powers."
"Either that or I have lost my old ones and gained new ones."
"We'll figure it out."
