That Weekend

"Hey! Let's go!" Antonio called up the stairs as Laura carried out an esky full of food they would need for the weekend.

"I'm not going!" Eva yelled, coming to stand at the top of the stairs.

"You're going to get into the car before I put you in there myself." He warned, narrowing his eyes at her.

"You ruined my weekend!" She yelled, as she ran down the stairs and out the door.

"What happened?" Laura asked, walking inside to stand next to him at the bottom of the stairs as Diego rushed down excitedly.

"I ruined her weekend. Let's go." Antonio sighed, as they all walked out the door and locking up.

"She'll come around. Who's driving first?" She asked as they closed the boot of the car.

"I will." He smiled, as he walked around the driver side.

"Fine by me," She said, smiling back as she sat in the passenger seat.

Pierce Lake

"I could be at the mall right about now with Chelsie and Page." Eva complained as they all go out of the car.

"Lighten up sis," Diego said, as he started to help their parents unpack the back of the 4WD.

"Don't tell me to lighten up," She growled, sitting on a log close by and pulling her phone out.

"You won't get any reception out here sweetie," Antonio said, looking over at her.

"And you tell me that now? Eugh!" She compained, kicking at some leaves.

"Diego, stay here with Mom. Eva, lets go." Antonio as he walked towards a trail.

"Where are we going?" she asked, following him.

"To get firewood. Unless you want to get cold at night." He replied, picking up branches and twigs that were good for lighting a fire.

"No thanks," she said, helping him pick up twigs and branches.

Five minutes later they stumbled upon another family who were just setting up their camp base.

"Ah so we do have neighbours this weekend." The man said, walking up to them.

"Antonio Dawson, this is my daughter Eva." Antonio said, shaking the mans hand.

"We've already met...Oh no I mean, she knows my son Travis." The man quickly said, seeing the slight confusion and over-protectiveness come over Antonio's features.

"Oh, didn't you tell me about him Eva?" Antonio asked, looking at his daughter.

"Y-yeah, he's my friend. I told you about him while you were in the hospital. Can I go say hi?" She asks, looking at her father hopefully.

"Yeah, make it quick. We need to get back to your mom and brother." Antonio said, watching her scamper off.

"In the hospital?" Martin, Travis's dad asked, peering at him curiously.

"Yeah, long story." Antonio said, as young girl screamed at her mother.

"I don't want to be here!" She yelled, stomping off towards the tents.

"Ah, sounds like Eva." Antonio muttered, leaning against a tree.

"That's my youngest. Layla." Martin said, laughing slightly.

"Eva! Let's go!" Antonio called, as she came walking back.

"Fine," She mumbled, standing next to her father.

"Nice to meet you." Antonio said, shaking the man's hand once again before they started on the trail back to their campsite.

Back the campsite

"What took you so long?" Laura asked, walking up to them with a worried expression.

"Hey, we're okay." Antonio said, hugging her to calm her down.

"I'm going to go read a book." Eva said, before walking off towards the tent that she was sharing with Diego.

"She okay?" Laura asked, as they sat down in the camp chairs.

"She saw Travis over at the other campsite." He said, leaning back in his chair.

"Oh boy," Laura mumbled, as Diego came running back from the side of the lake.

"Dad! Can we go fishing? Please!" He begged, looking at his father with puppy eyes.

"Yeah, go get the fishing rods. You coming babe?" He asked, looking at Laura.

"I will stay here and watch. Don't fall in Diego." Laura warned, as Antonio kissed her forehead before they walked down to the side of the lake.
