An awkward silence fell over the small group. Brandon was still in shocked, Mike was uncomfortably shifting from foot to foot and Dani felt like the world was starring at her. Callie stood back observing the interactions almost unable to believe this is what they walked into.

"Brandon it is so nice to finally meet you," Dani said breaking the silence holding out her hand.

"Ummm yeah," Brandon said shaking her hand purely going through the motions still in a total daze.

Dani could tell Brandon was struggling and her being around was not helping the young man.

"Mike I am going to get going," Dani said turning towards him.

"You don't have to," Mike said walking with her towards the door.

"I really should….you two need to talk," Dani said looking back at Brandon.

"All right I will call you later ok?"

"Sounds good," Dani said kissing Mike before opening the door.

As Dani went to turn she could see the daggers being fired her direction. She quickly exited the apartment and closed the door behind her.

Meanwhile B and Callie were having their own little conversation.

"B maybe I should let you two talk," Callie suggested?

"You don't have to go Callie….don't go just because my father is dating a teenager," Brandon said with distain.

"Brandon I can't imagine how tough this is but don't be a butthead. Try and hear your dad out first before you make any judgments ok."

"I can't make any promises but I will try."

"I am going to go and let you two talk….call me when you want to leave and I will come pick you up ok."

"Yeah….you still don't have to go though."

"You need to talk to your dad….I will be here the second your done."

"Love you," he said kissing her not wanting to let her go.

"I love you more," she whispered back.

Callie walked towards the door where Mike was standing.

"It was nice to see you again Mike….hopefully I will see you Friday for a little longer. I am going to elt you to talk."

"Thanks Callie."

Mike took a deep breath trying to buy a moment to mentally prepare for this. He was not planning on seeing Brandon until Friday and he had it all worked out how he was going to talk to his son about the new relationship….that plan was thrown totally out the window now.

"So B tell me all about school? How is it? Any performances coming up," Mike asked excited?

Brandon paused for a moment trying to comprehend the rapid fire questions. He eyed his father and took his over excitement as nothing but a cover for the obvious topic they should be talking about.

"School is good," Brandon started slowly. "Umm finals are in two weeks and for one of my classes we have to perform a piece but that's the only performance this semester. There is a larger one at the end of the year but I am not sure I will be in that one yet it is a competitive process."

"I know you will do great and let me know if you are in it…I would love to come to New York and see you."

Brandon nodded his head.

"So how is New York? Did you see all the sights or has school kept you busy? I bet New York is a great city to be in."

"Are you done," Brandon asked?

"Done what?"

"Playing 20 questions and totally ignoring the fact you have a girlfriend….one who looks like she could be my sister and looks at home here so clearly this isn't something new."

Mike sighed.

"Ok, let's talk about Dani. I just want you to know I didn't intend for you to find out this way and I wasn't trying to hide it. I was going to tell you Friday…it is not something I wanted to do on the phone."

"How long have you known her? How long have you been dating? Where did you meet her?"

"Now look at who has the 20 questions," Mike joked.

Brandon just glared at him.

"Ok, not a time for jokes. So I have known Dani for about a year now….we casually started dating right after you left for school and more seriously started dating a couple months ago," Mike explained.

"You were casually dating?"

"You know meeting up for dinner or a cup of coffee occasionally. We just liked spending time together and got to know each other better. She is really nice B and I think if you give her a chance you will see she isn't the enemy."

Brandon chose to ignore what his father thought about how he should feel about this girl.

"Where did you meet her?"

And there was the one question Mike was hoping to avoid. Mike's hesitation only fueled Brandon's curiosity. Knowing lying would only makes things worse Mike braced for the fallout of the truth.

"I met her at an AA meeting."

"You have got to be kidding me right?"

"No, I met her there a year ago….she is not normally in my group but stopped in because she couldn't make her group that week."

"Was she grounded that week," Brandon chided?

"Hey, I get it your upset but you will not be disrespectful. You don't even know Dani."

"Your right I don't….and whose fault is that," Brandon said popping up on the couch pacing with anger. "I come home and get blind sided with this dad. I can't remember the last time you had a girlfriend….and I come home and you're dating a kid."

"She is not a kid….she is 25."

"Oh well that is sooo much better…So she was 6 when I was born…just ponder that for a moment. You are 20 years older than her….what the hell are you doing dad?"

"Age is just a number Brandon. We have a lot in common….

"Yeah you're both alcoholics….although I guess she is an overachiever becoming an alcoholic before the age of 25."

"Watch it Brandon."

"No dad you watch it….you were supposed to go to AA to get help for yourself not pick up girls. You were supposed to be dealing with your problems not taking on someone else's."

"I haven't had a drink in 2 years Brandon….we are good for each other….we are there for each other."

"Well, I am glad you have your priorities straight dad."

Brandon exited the apartment slamming the door behind him. He didn't want to talk about this anymore. He had all the information he needed at the moment and now he needed time to deal with it. Not really wanting to be around anyone at the moment he just walked around trying to sort out his head.

Callie walked into the house and slammed the door. She was mad…mad at how once again they were left in the dark about something that clearly affected their lives. It might not affect her life directly but it did Brandon's and whatever happened to him affected her.

"Where is Brandon," Stef asked upon seeing Callie enter the kitchen?

"At his dads….you knew I take it," Callie said her voice laced with attitude.

"We did….we found out just recently."

"Why didn't you tell us….tell Brandon at least?"

"It was not our information to tell," Lena explained. "We talked to Mike and he wanted to be the one to tell Brandon and had a plan to do so when he was home over the break."

"Although some of us wanted to tell Brandon," Stef added.

FLASHBACK

Stef walked into the house and slammed the door shut. She stopped her way into the kitchen and practically threw her bag on the couch before marching into the kitchen opening the fridge and slamming that door too.

"Wow looks like someone had a good day," Lena said trying to get even a small smile out of her partner.

"Just when I thought everything was going good….just when I thought things would settle down he goes and does this."

"Who does what," Lena asked needing more information.

"Mike….he has a girlfriend."

Lena was a little surprised not only by the fact Mike had a girlfriend but how Stef was acting over it.

"And the reason you're so upset," Lena questioned?

"He is dating a kid."

"What?"

"She is like 20 something and get this he met her in rehab."

"Don't they frown at those sorts of things?"

"YES….just another shining example of the brilliant decisions he is making."

"Ok so he is making some poor choices….that is on him."

"He doesn't want me telling Brandon….he wants to tell him but wait until he is home."

"I can't say I blame him."

"What?"

"Mike should be the one to explain this to Brandon….I can't say I am happy not telling him but this is Mike's thing not ours."

"He should at least tell him he is dating someone and they can discuss it more when he gets home."

"Probably but this is how he wants to handle it."

"God why did I marry such a butthead."

"Heyyy," Lena smiled knowing stef was clearly referring to Mike.

END FLASHBACK

"Either way….yes we knew but this is Mike's thing and he wanted to handle it."

"Yeah well I am sure he didn't plan on his son walking in on him."

"Walking in on him doing what," Stef asked almost afraid to know the answer?

"No…not like that….but she was there when we got there just hanging out….it was awkward. She left and then I left shortly after to let them talk."

"How was Brandon? Did he seem ok?"

"He was shocked and confused and probably hurt and I am sure pissed as all hell."

Stef sighed knowing this would end badly.

"We will talk to him when he gets home. I am not happy with Mike but it is his life…I can't tell him who to date and how he wants to disclose information to Brandon. I have to respect his choices as I know I would be pissed if Mike told Brandon something I had planned too."

"Why do adults have to make things so complicated?"

"It is written into our contracts," Stef joked. "Adults sometimes make things harder than they have to be but sometimes adults just have more complicated problems. Brandon having three parents makes it a little harder….but we will talk to him and make sure he is ok."

"He is supposed to call me when he leaves he dads but I guess his dad might just bring him back here…guess it just depends on how things go."

It was approaching 6pm and Callie still hadn't heard from Brandon. She had sent him a couple texts just seeing how things were going but didn't want to bother Brandon if he was still with Mike. She honestly didn't think he would be gone this long but they clearly had a lot to talk about. Plus Brandon had been gone for a couple months and they also had to catch up on a lot of things….yeah they just needed time together Callie reasoned in her head.

"No plans tonight," Mariana asked walking into her room?

"Not really…just waiting to hear from Brandon….he is at his dads."

"It is the biggest drinking night of the year…you seriously just gonna be sitting around here waiting for Brandon?"

"I am not 21."

"So….you don't have to drink but everyone is going to be hanging out at The Fox you should come."

"And hang out with a bunch of kids who thought I was a criminal my frist year at school," Callie smirked?

"Well, technically you were a criminal."

"Hey being in juvie does not make me a criminal," Callie laughed tossing her pillow at Mariana.

"It makes you a baby criminal," she said sticking out her tongue.

"Maybe in a little bit I want to touch base with Brandon first…he had a long day."

"Everyone ok?"

"Yeah nothing to worry about….you know Mike can stress him out sometimes."

"Yeah that's parents in general…try having two moms when they are both PMSing," Mariana playfully rolled her eyes.

Callie couldn't help but laugh. Mariana continued to roam around the room getting ready to go out. She could hear Jesus moving about the bathroom and figured he was probably heading out with Mariana.

"Where are you," Callie typed the text and sent it off to Brandon?

Callie wait a few minutes and finally she got a response from him.

"I'm at the bar."

Callie shot up in bed rereading the text. Was he serious?

"Are you serious? What bar? You're not drinking right?"

A long 10 minutes pasted and still no response from Brandon. She tried calling him and her call was forwarded right to voicemail.

"Are you kidding me B," Callie mumbled.

Callie left her phone on her bed and ran downstairs trying to compose herself before entering the kitchen.

"Hey Stef can I borrow your phone for a second," Callie asked knowing only she and Lena had to phone tracking program on their phones?

"Umm sure what is wrong with yours?"

"I forgot to charge it and it died and I need to look something up real quick and send something to Brandon."

"No problem."

"Thanks."

Callie took Stef's phone and found the Find my phone program opening it. She waited a moment for it to location Brandon and finally an address popped up. She took a screen shot of it and sent the picture to her phone. She quickly deleted the picture and text before returning the phone to Stef.

"Here you go thanks….I am going to run out and meet up with Brandon…..we might end up at the Fox with the twins but I am not sure what he wants to do."

"All right love…be home by curfew and please be careful tonight….a lot of drinking and diving goes on tonight."

"I promise to be careful."

Callie ran up the stairs grabbing her phone and keys to Brandon's car and raced out the door.
