Cecil hadn't realized quite how much he depended on his guard until Kain was no longer with him. Certainly, the dragoon would be back eventually, but the paladin wanted his best friend with him now. Kain was one of the few constants in his life, one of the few people who reliably supported him and pointed out what he didn't see and aided him when he needed it. Cecil knew he wasn't a bad king, but he also knew that he would be better once Kain was with him again.
