Snow White
The next week, Roderich had been allowed back home, as his condition had stabilised. It's not necessarily a good condition, but he won't be falling over so long as he doesn't overwork himself like he did that one day.
Of course, Gilbert was there to greet him when the car drove in, holding a basket of biscuits and breakfast. And as expected, today they weren't having an outdoor picnic, but it would still be fun to sit around and eat together. That passed by quickly.
Gilbert decided he would spend the whole day with Roderich, and he went back home to get two large tins of biscuits, since Roderich seemed to like them so much. Gilbert had no problem with spoiling his best friend. However, when lunch came around, Roderich had quickly told him to hide the biscuits under the bed. Apparently he wasn't allowed to have so many. And Gilbert was hesitant to disobey the adults, but he valued spoiling Roderich over rules.
Gilbert was surprised when a maid had come with two servings for lunch, and even more surprised when Baldwin had brought a small wooden table and two stools so that the two young boys could eat properly together. Gilbert was also somewhat confused when he saw that Roderich's plate had a lot of dairy within it. A small cup of oatmeal with honey and a glass of milk, with a side of cubed cheeses and a slice of bread slathered in strawberry cream cheese. Gilbert had a cup of oatmeal too, but no honey, with a glass of orange juice, his weekly favourite, and a side of grapes. His slice of bread was slathered with the previously missed honey.
Gilbert was staring happily at the arrange of food, but he was still confused.
"Why do you have so much dairy?"
"Because my bones are quite weak. Dairy helps."
Gilbert nodded and sipped his orange juice. He took note of that.
After lunch was over, and a long talk about Roderich's skin and it's connection with his almond milk, Roderich finally asked the magic question.
"Gilbert? Would you like to sleep over tonight?"
"What?"
"We live right next to each other, so the distance isn't a problem. Also, you have no school tomorrow, right?"
"Well, no. But do you really think your dad will let me?"
"I'll make my father understand if I have to."
Those were some of the boldest words he heard Roderich say, so he nodded obediently.
"I'll tell my dad. He'll let me."
Gilbert brought out the biscuits for dessert after they were done, and when they— or, notably Roderich— had finished them all, Gilbert took a short visit to his house, packing a set of clothes and diving into his pyjamas, then came back just in time to see Roderich walking out of his room with his butler. Apparently, tonight, they would have dinner in the house, with Herr Edelstein. Gilbert wasn't sure just how thrilled he was about that.
