"If I told you that I'm relocating to Tampa, would you be willing to relocate with me?" Darien's tone was nervous and shy. He looked abashed as he asked.
He and Bunny were face timing, it was something that they did every night since January. Bunny liked to think of it as them virtually dating. It wasn't as if she were seeing anyone else, and he had mentioned anyone else. Rei was convinced that Darien was in love with her, which made Bunny scoff but internally preen.
"Are you?" Bunny asked, shock coursing through her. If he were moving to Tampa that was only an hour and a half away from Orlando. The move wouldn't be too bad, and she'd still be relatively close to her family.
Darien shrugged, "it's in the works. My company is opening a new branch there and I offered to be part of the team to start it. It's an extensive project, but they'll allow me to stay in Florida if I do a well enough job."
It was then that Bunny's brain decided to catch up. "Wait…relocate with you? Do you mean move in with you?"
Her heart was pounding in her chest now.
The shy look returned on Darien's face, "yes?"
"Oh," Bunny gnawed on her lower lip to prevent the grin that was threatening to overcome her face. "Well, I can teach in Tampa for sure. But I'd like to wait until at least spring break or summer vacation before leaving."
"That's understandable," Darien smiled brightly, "we can work out the schematics. I'll be there within the next week to look at houses. Would you like to come with me?"
A house would be amazing. Bunny would love to stop living in apartments and be somewhere within a nice school zone and low crime rate. Something with a big enough backyard for a pool and maybe a small swing set for her baby to play in.
A place where the three of them would fit together.
"Of course! I'd love to," Bunny nodded.
The knock on her front door caused her to jump from her spot on the couch and glance over at it.
"I have to go Dare, someone's at the door." Bunny and him said their goodbyes before she got up and answered.
She was not expecting Lita, on the verge of tears.
Bunny quickly ushered the taller woman inside, and after asking a few questions managed to get the entire story out. It was unbelievable, the fact that Lita had reconnected with Nephrite. Bunny had to squash the queasiness that was building its way up from her belly as the story kept going.
But, after hearing the entire thing and tucking Lita in on the couch and getting her comfortable, Bunny sat back and thought.
She doubted Andrew would leave Lita due to this. He loved her too much, but she couldn't blame him if he decided to postpone the wedding. Lita had broken his trust. They had always seemed like the perfect relationship, easy-going and open. Maybe that wasn't exactly the case, everything was always different behind closed doors.
Scooping up Luna, Bunny made her way into her bedroom with her phone in hand and decided to text Darien.
-Bunny (8:19 PM) - Hypothetically, if you were engaged and your fiancé went out to coffee with an ex without tell you, how mad would you be?
-Darien (8:21 PM) - I think I'd be more hurt than mad. What's going on to make you ask this?
-Bunny (8:22 PM) - The knock on my door earlier.
-Darien (8:24 PM) - Ah. Well, how would you react?
-Bunny (8:24 PM) - I'd probably cry.
-Darien (8:25 PM) - Then it's a good thing that something like that would never happen between us. Making you cry would be the worst.
Bunny stared down at the last text, her heart racing in her ears. A large smile spread across her face before she responded.
-Bunny (8:27 PM) - …are you insinuating that we're in a relationship?
-Darien (8:28 PM) - Were we not?
-Bunny (8:29 PM) - At least we're on the same page now lol.
-Darien (8:30 PM) - I wasn't kidding when I said that I want to try and make this work.
-Darien (8:30 PM) - Unless you don't want to. I don't want you to feel like you're being pressured into anything.
-Darien (8:30 PM) - And this isn't about the baby! I mean it kind of is. But not really?
-Darien (8:31 PM) - What I'm trying to say is that I really like you. Not just because you're the mother of my child.
-Darien (8:32 PM) - Although I'm really happy that you are.
-Darien (8:34 PM) - I'm sorry if I made this awkward.
Bunny just giggled at the slew of messages. Darien was unlike any of her previous boyfriends. Diamond had been abusive, manipulative, and self-absorbed. Seiya had been kind, but they had barely known each other.
Granted, she didn't know as much as she'd like to about Darien, but from what Bunny did know was that he had a good head on his shoulders, but was patient and kind as well. His marriage proposal, as awful as that had been, still floated around in her mind.
Honestly she could see herself growing old with him very easily.
The idea only scared her a little bit. She had always dreamed of getting married. Finding the right person, marriage, and children. Granted, things were not going in that order, but that was okay for Bunny. If Darien was really serious about trying to make this work then she would be on board. As long as it wasn't just because she was pregnant with his child. She didn't want to be with someone for the wrong reasons.
-Bunny (8:36 PM) - You're adorable.
-Darien (8:37 PM) - Thank you, I do my best.
They continued to correspond until Bunny fell asleep, her phone slipping from her grasp somewhere on her bed.
Sunday meant no work. Bunny woke up to the smell of pancakes being cooked and the sound of bacon fizzling. She frowned for a moment, a little disoriented before sitting up and glancing around. It was early morning, the sun had just begun to allow light into the room. Luna was curled up on a pillow, lazily flicking her tail.
Slowly she pulled herself out of her lovely cocoon and moseyed into the bathroom to deal with a very real bout of morning sickness. The smell of food only made things worse and Bunny had to take a cool shower afterwards to help fight the nausea. It took nearly twenty minutes to calm down before she was dressed and ready to face the day.
Lita was still wearing her uniform bottoms and t-shirt from the night prior. A mug of coffee held tightly in her hands. She had dark bags under her eyes and only managed to give Bunny a weak smile at the sight of her.
"Do you want some clothes?" Bunny asked Lita, pausing near the kitchen bar to wait for an answer. "I think I have some tights and a tunic you can wear. Although on you it'll look like capris and a t-shirt. You need to take a shower."
Lita shook her head, "I think I should head home and face the music. I need to woman up and deal with this head on. If he leaves me you'll be the first to know."
"Andrew's not going to leave you," Bunny frowned while serving herself a plate of breakfast.
Lita could only give her a wobbly nod. They sat in silence, both nibbling on their foods before getting up to clean the kitchen.
On impulse Bunny gave Lita a tight hug as she walked her to the door. "Let me know what happens."
"Of course."
Bunny sincerely hoped that Lita would.
Dumb decisions aside, Bunny thought that Lita was being incredibly brave for heading to Andrew without being prompted. Bunny wasn't sure what she would do if she were ever in that predicament. She was a bit of a coward when it came to confrontation and was sure that she'd have to be dragged into any sort of serious relationship conversation to discuss how royally she had messed up.
"I hope they don't do anything stupid. Like breakup," Bunny told Luna while turning on the TV.
Luna merely butted her head against Bunny's arm before leaping off of the couch and heading towards the bedroom.
-Darien (1:09 PM) - This is probably a dumb question, but do you have a Facebook? My best friend tried to get me onto it. I feel too old for social media.
Bunny perked up, she had planned on spending the rest of her day watching Food Network and vegging out while pretending to grade papers.
Darien had a best friend? This was news. Did his best friend know about Bunny?
Instead of jumping into a million questions (which is her first reaction) she decided to answer him.
-Bunny (1:11 PM) - I do! Got it back in 2006. Want to add me?
-Darien (1:12 PM) - I haven't decided if I want my personal business for everyone to see yet.
-Bunny (1:13 PM) - So tell me about your best friend?
-Darien (1:14 PM) - I have two close friends whom I would consider my best friends. Fiore is in Hawaii, working as a chef. Setsuna works for NASA in Texas. We keep in touch but you can imagine that we don't often see each other.
Bunny felt lonely for him. Darien had no family, and his two close friends were on other sides of the country.
-Darien (1:16 PM) - Fiore is the one who wants me to get Facebook. I'm on the fence about it.
-Bunny (1:17 PM) - It WOULD be easier for you to retain contact with people.
-Darien (1:18 PM) – True. I'll think about it. What're you doing at this moment?
Bunny stared down at her tights and tunic ensemble, her scattered paper work and the unfinished bowl of cereal on the coffee table.
-Bunny (1:20 PM) – Attempting to grade papers. At this point I might just give all my students A's for turning the assignment in and be done with it.
-Darien (1:21 PM) – I'm sure they'd all appreciate the boost to their GPA.
Her phone began to ring before Bunny managed to send the flirty response she had been planning on. Mina's name flashed across the screen as her ringtone blared obnoxiously.
"Hey Vee," Bunny greeted, "how's New York treating you?"
"Oh my gosh Bun!" Mina's voice wasn't as excited as Bunny had expected it to be. Instead her cousin sounded panicked. "Have you talked to any of the girls lately?"
"Are you talking about what's going on with Lita?" Bunny asked while lying down on her couch. There was no point in pretending to do work at the moment.
"Wait, what?" Mina demanded, "No, I was talking about Rei! What happened with Lita?"
Bunny explained what happened the night prior to which her cousin claimed that Lita was an idiot and left it at that. Bunny had the sinking suspicion that Mina already knew what was going on before it all came to crest.
"What's going on with Rei?" She asked instead of delving further into how Mina happened to know everything about each of them.
Mina let out a heavy sigh, "She broke up with Itto and is currently living in a hotel with her grandpa while finding her own place."
"Wait, what?" Bunny sat up abruptly.
Were her friends honestly trying to give her a heart attack? First Amy, the Lita, now Rei. Bunny was eternally grateful that things were going well between her and Darien, because she refused to be dragged into any angst-like relationship drama.
"What happened?" Bunny asked in a small voice. Itto and Rei had been together since college. She thought that they were going to eventually get married and have children once they were ready. They had finally moved in together!
"She met someone," Mina's tone was bitter, "and she didn't want to cheat on Itto so she left. He was planning on proposing to her Bun. Hotaru was the one who called me, she's so upset over this. I haven't bothered to try reaching out to Itto, he needs his space. I haven't even spoken to Rei yet and I'm too mad to try."
"It's her life," Bunny reasoned while rubbing her lower abdomen, a habit that she had begun to do more often has her belly began to protrude. "When she's ready to say something she will. We can only be supportive of her and show her that we love her. Despite our own opinions."
Mina snorted, "I know you're right, but I'm still so annoyed with her. Anyway, how are you? How's the baby?"
They talked about other things, and it almost felt normal. Bunny didn't bring up the fact that she was looking into the area of Tampa Darien was planning on moving to. She didn't want to jinx herself.
They spoke for nearly an hour before hanging up and Bunny felt a little hollow when it was over.
"How about some pizza?" She asked her belly. "Pizza sound good to you?"
Because for Bunny, food was always the solution for stressful situations.
And honestly, her friends were stressing her out.

MLL: FORGIVE THE TYPOS. I'm too lazy to go back and was a filler chapter that was full of fluff. I've been working on this stupid chapter since July and haven't had the time to truly add to the overall plot. So instead I decided to dedicate this to Bunny and Darien's budding relationship. Please review.
