Chapter 21: Sticking Around

I sat there in my room thinking to myself. What will I need for this trip to camp Half-Blood? Extra clothes. Maybe some money… Hmm… DeathGrip and it's case of course… I have been dying to visit Xander. It's so much fun to mess with that kid. But more importantly Chiron. Yes Chiron. Chiron and I go way back. Ever since 1969. I was at camp Half-Blood because apparently someone called in they thought I was a demigod. So a satyr forced me to come with him. I did because I didn't know I was a demigod. On the way there he explained everything. Then later we found out I was a son of Hades my father came to claim me cause the old Leader of The Warriors of the Underworld was ill. He died and I became the leader. A lot to put on a Fourteen year old. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Come in." I called.

It's probably Trip coming to complain about me leaving Thomas in charge. It's just Trip isn't very… Trust worthy. I don't trust him at all. He would stab me in the back if he could. But he can't because Trip is afraid. He won't admit it but he's afraid of me. I can see it in his eyes… Just the thought of that made me smile. The door swung open and yup there was Trip with Thomas following behind. I knew it.

"Let me guess you're here to complain about me leaving Thomas in charge?"

"Yep."

"And you want to be in charge?" I said packing a small duffle bag.

"Yes."

"Request denied." I said.

"Come on Tyler! I am second in charge I deserve to be in charge while you're gone!"

"Oh really? No Trip what you deserve is to rot in Tartarus. All the trouble you have given me since you have arrived here. Trip be a man and suck it up." I said pushing past him and walking into the hallway.

"This isn't fair! You can't do this!"

"Actually I can, I am the leader my word Is law. Remember Trip? You should know. Now stop complaining you're giving me a head ache." I snapped.

"Well you give me a head ache!" He said.

I rolled my eyes and walked away. I walked down the stairs to the main room, the dining room, I stood up on the table and began to get everyone's attention. "Everyone! I have an announcement to make." I said. I waited for everyone to gather. "I am leaving. I'm going to camp Half-Blood to recruit more demigods. But not for us. They will be in another location. I have decided North Carolina is where there base shall be."

"Why not just bring them back here?" A demigod called out.

"Because if The Agents of the Sea do destroy us we will have another back up army. Thank you all. I will be leaving right now. I will be back soon. I promise. Dismissed."

I turned to Thomas and Trip and Thomas said. "Good luck Tyler. Hermes's speed." He said putting his hand on my shoulder.

"Same to you." I said. I looked to Trip waiting for a goodbye but he didn't say a thing. "Same to you Trip. I will see you all very soon." I said.

I turned to the front door. My hellhound was waiting. She was going to help me get to camp half-blood. I walked out the front door with my duffle bag and hoped on one of Mrs. O'Leary's puppies. I named her Crystal. I don't know why I just wanted to.

"Alright girl. To camp Half-Blood. You can do it."

Crystal barked and ran into the shadows. I kept my eyes open. I always do. I feel at home in here. It's pretty peaceful. We finally made it to the woods of camp Half-Blood and Crystal collapsed.

"Good job girl. Just relax now. I'll be back soon. Don't worry." I said stroking her.

I started walking around and I saw them. It was Xander, Carter, three other girls and 2 other guys. If I have been studying up on my history, AKA Carter's past, then those two girls with the long brown hair are Katherine and Emily, and that boy would be… Zack… The Non demigod. Emily just seemed to be looking around and then she saw me. She looked right at me. I stared at her and she stared back. I smiled and waved a little and she waved a little in confusion. I looked at the girl with blonde hair. If I am also right from what my father told me a little while ago that's Natalia Castellan, Luke Castellan's little sister who happens to be the head of Kronos's army. Also Natalia has Xander and Carter rapped around her finger. I have to admit she is kind of pretty. I strain my ears and as soon as Emily looked away from em I snuck closer and hide behind a bush.

"Where can I find you if I need to?" Natalia asks someone.

"In The Zeus cabin-" I stopped listening when I realized it really was Carter. It was just a hunch. This could be my chance of killing him.

Tyler It's not the time, the time will come, you must wait. He will show up in Delaware eventually. Let him come to you.

Fine. Whatever dad I mean I could easily do it here….. No answer.

"Yeah. Zeus cabin. Got it." Natalia says with a short sigh.

Hmm… I'm sensing that Natalia likes Carter… But also Xander. How cute is this. This is just adorable! Anyway… I have heard a lot about Emily… I hear she taught Carter everything she knows. She could be a good addition to The Warriors of The Underworld. I stood up and looked around to see that they were gone.

"Dang it." I hissed.

I got up and walked around the camp. None of these people seem… Worthy to be a Warrior of The Underworld. I walked into the Apollo cabin to see a girl about 14 or 15 with a guy that was obviously a lot older.

"Err… Hi?" I said. I was looking for Xander. I want to mess with him a little more! He's so pathetic.

"Well hello. Who are you? I haven't seen you around her before. Are you new?" The girl asked.

"Umm… Yea I'm new."

"Well it's nice to meet you! I'm Katie and this is Lucas." She said gesturing to the boy. I stopped for a second and realized something… Katie was pregnant.

"It's nice to meet you to Katie. I'm Tyler Slade."

"Who's your parent?" She asked.

"Ha- Err… Hermes." I said.

"Oh so you were claimed already?" She asked.

"Umm… Yea… I was." I said awkwardly.

"Tyler? Are you ok… You seem a little nervous… Are you alright?" She asked obviously caring. It's nice to know some people are nice in this world. Even if I'm a horrible person.

Just by her asking me that made me feel a little better. I couldn't help smile. "Yea Katie, I am." I said. "Well I have to leave Katie but… I hope we meet again."

"I hope so to."

"Oh and can you not mention that I was here? I mean never tell anyone I was here?" I asked.

"Ok… I guess…" She said a little hesitate.

"Well bye Katie!" I said walking out the door.

Phew that was a close one. I begin to walk to the Athena cabin. I remember Emily is a daughter of Athena… I want her to be in The Warriors of The Underworld. She would make a wonderful addition! I said that already… But it's true! I continued to walk but I quickly saw Xander and a really tan boy walking toward me! I jumped to a side of a cabin.

"You like her don't you?" Ramon asks.

"What! No… Why would you think that!? Is it that obvious?"

"Yea."

I listened as much as there conversation as I could as they passed. I got out from hiding behind a cabin and made my way to the Athena Cabin… Let's see… What's my name… How about August. I'm 14 and new here but I have been claimed as a son of Athena… Yes! That's perfect. I walked into the Athena cabin and all eyes were on me. I saw Emily talking to a girl but they were just staring at me because I walked in. There were a lot of people here.

"Hi…" I managed to choke out.

"Hi… I'm Annabeth. I don't believe I have seen you around… Are you knew here?" The girl that Emily was talking to stood up and said.

"Yes… I'm… August and I was recently claimed as a son of Athena." I lied.

"Well welcome to the Athena cabin! I'm your new half-sister Annabeth, this is-" She began telling me everyone's names and we finally got to Emily. "And this is Emily she also arrived today."

"Nice to meet you all…" I hesitated.

"You can have this bunk." Annabeth said pointing me to the bunk next to Emily.

After a couple of minutes everyone stopped paying attention to me and they were all conversing with each other again. Emily was the only one not talking. She was simply reading. I got up and sat down next to her on her bunk.

"What are you doing?" She asked me pulling her head away from her book.

"Making small talk." I said.

"Why?" She asked.

"I need to get to know someone here." I said.

"Why me?" She asked raising her eyebrow.

"I don't know… You seem like a friendly face." I said.

"Well trust me I'm not." She said with a sigh.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

She looked around nervously. "Can we talk? Alone?" She asked.

"Sure. Where?"

"Behind the cabin. Right now." She said.

We both slowly snuck our way outside of the Athena cabin and then behind it.

"So? What you want to talk about?"

"My best friend named Carter fell in love with Natalia Castellan who happens to be Luke Castellan's little sister and Luke is the head of Kronos's army and I'm flipping stressed out!" She ranted.

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.

"You said you wanted to get to know me." She said.

"Alright. Fine."

"Ok… Let's get back to the cabin.

"Ok." I said. We walked back into the cabin and we find everyone was staring at us.

"Ooo! The two newbies like each other!" One child of Athena called out.

"No we were just… Talking." Emily said with her face getting bright red.

"I don't know Emily, we could make a cute couple." I said putting my arm around her jokingly.

"Knock it off August!" Emily said pushing me playfully.

After about ten minutes or so everyone stopped paying attention to us and went to bed. It was just me and Emily talking quietly.

"Well I'm off to go do something…" I said.

"But August it's past Curfew! You could get eaten alive!" Emily exclaimed.

"I think I will be fine. Cover for me?"

"Fine." She said.

I snuck out of the cabin and took a look around. I walked towards the stables to find three kids sneaking around.

"Shhhh be quiet someone might hear you!" I hear one of the people say.

"Your right. I did hear you." I said walking up to them. They all turned to me and froze. "It's ok, I'm not Chiron… Or any of the leaders here… Who are you guys and what are you doing?" I asked.

"Who are you." One boy out of the three people said.

"August." I said.

"Well I'm Blake Ryan , this is my sister Anita and this is her boyfriend Mason Jay."

"Nice to meet you all. Can you step into the light so I can see you?" I asked.

All three of them stepped into the light. The Blake guy looked about 16 and had Black hair and dark brown eyes. The girl which looked about 13 also had Dark brown hair, and Dark brown eyes while the other boy Mason had Blonde Spiky hair, and blue eyes.

"So… What are all of you doing by the Pegasus stables?" I asked curiously.

"Well… We were planning to take them and get out of here. We don't want to be here anymore." Blake said.

I thought for a moment and saw my perfect opportunity. "If you had the chance of being immortal forever… Would you take it?" I asked them.

They all looked at each other and they all answered yes.

"Well… If I could give you that… Would you take it?"

"Yes… We would…" Blake said.

"Well… Now's your chance." I said with a grin.

"What do you mean?" Mason asked.

"I… Am the leader of something called The Warriors of The Underworld. We have pledged our allegiance to Hades and in return we are granted immortality. We must do whatever he asks of us and more. We must vanquish all of his enemies and protect the Underworld." I said.

"You're kidding." Anita said.

"I am not kidding. I mean what I say. I came here to camp Half-blood to recruit more demigods to start out another location of the Warriors of The Underworld. Our head base is in Delaware. What do you say? Will you join us and become immortal forever?" I asked.

"Quick question." Anita said. "Can we die?" She asked.

"Only if you fall in combat. What do you say?" I asked.

They all took longing glances at each other and Anita and Mason both nodded to Blake. Blake looked at me and said.

"Yes. We will pledge our allegiance to Hades and the Underworld." Blake said.

I stared at them and watched as they glowed red. "Congratulations. You are now official members of The Warriors of the Underworld. And you are immortal." I said.

"So… Are we going to leave?"

I thought for a second. "No... Not yet… I think we should stick around a bit. Recruit more demigods." I said thinking of Emily.

It's been two whole months since I got here. I have recruited 17 demigods. It was hard but I did it. I have to go home now. My people need me. So I told all of them to meet me in the forest. I… I don't want to go… I would be leaving Emily… Emily and I have grown close over the past 2 months. Everyone even the people I have recruited still think my name is August and I am a son of Athena. I haven't told them the truth yet.

"Hey August!" I hear. I turn around to see Emily running up to me. Dang it… I have to get into the forest.

Emily! Hey… Aren't you late for training?"

"Yea but I wanted you to come with me." She said.

"Oh… I would love to Emily but see… I'm meeting some friends." I said. I hate lying to Emily… But I'm not exactly lying… I am meeting some people.

"Oh… Who?" She asked.

"Umm… Blake and Anita… Children of Hephaestus."

"Alright… See you later then." She said.

"Yea… Later…" I said with a sigh.

I turned around and ran as fast as I could so that I didn't look back… I knew if I did I wouldn't want to leave. I ran into the forest to find all 17 demigods standing around.

"Everyone." I said.

Once they saw me they all got into a straight line. They respect me like that.

"Hi August!" One of the 6 year old kids said. Her name is Maggie Evancha, Maggie is really nice and kind of funny. She's sweet and cute. Once she gets older that will die out most likely. Maggie has long, curly golden hair that is usually down, at least when I see her it is, and tied with a pink ribbon. Big, brown eyes with long black lashes, full red lips that look almost fake, and she's really thin and short.

"Hey Maggie." I said.

She ran up to me and hugged me. She's so sweet that it almost makes me feel like I have a heart. Oh yea her parent is Aphrodite. Another one of my favorites is Marcus Vanbrunt. Marcus is a child of Ares and he has long, shaggy black hair, deep grey eyes, and is really lanky and tall. He's a very quiet person, he keeps to himself, the whole reason he joined us was for some excitement, I like that.

"Marcus." I said nodding to him.

Another one of the kids… Who I think is ok… He's… Gay. But who am I to judge him right? I'm a soulless murder some I'm not one to talk. His name is Justin Spring. He has spiky blonde hair with pink tips and red roots and deep green eyes.

"Hey August!" He said all peppy like.

"Hello Justin." I said with a sigh.

Out of all 17 of these demigods I only like about 5 and then there's Justin. He's nice and all but annoys me. He's always trying to make me look on the bright side of things… Not cool. The only 5 I like are Blake, Anita, Mason, Maggie and Marcus.

"Is everyone ready?" I asked. Everyone nodded. "Grab each other's hands. Don't forget to close your eyes when shadow traveling." I said.

"How are we going to shadow travel?" Blake asked.

"I'll show you." I whistled and out came Crystal. "Everyone this is Crystal… She's a hellhound. Don't worry she doesn't bite."

"August?" I hear.

I turn around to see Emily standing there.

"Emily… What are you doing?" I asked.

"What am I do? What are you doing? You're out in the middle of the forest with all of them." She said.

"Yea! August is the well respected leader of The Warriors of the Underworld!" Maggie shouted.

"What? I-I don't understand… August is just a normal son of Athena…" Emily said.

I looked down and looked at everyone. "Something you should all know. My name isn't August, It's Tyler. Tyler Slade, And I am not a son of Athena. I am a son of the mighty god of the Underworld. Hades."

There was gasps of confusion. I stared at Emily who's eyes stared to tear up.

"I should of known it."

I turned away and jumped on Crystal. I grabbed Maggie's hand who was holding everyone else's hands.

"August… Or… Tyler… You can't run away from this! We need to talk! Please…" Emily said.

"I'm sorry… Goodbye Emily." I said and we plunged into darkness.
