Chapter 18: Marco's secrets
Marco was sitting close to the camp fire, with the other three huntresses lying around the fireside, asleep.
"Are you three awake?" he asked. The other's opened their eyes. "I thought so."
Weiss then asked, "Is something troubling you?" Marco turned his head towards the others. Blake and
Yang were stating at him. "Yes, you remember this afternoon?"
Blake then reminded him, "Yeah, Oobleck was asking us questions and he asked you one too." Marco
sighed, "Yeah, he asked me why I became a soldier." Yang then sat up. "Soooo… what did you tell
him?"
Marco sighed and said, "Well, all I told him was that I became a soldier because I wanted to make sure that
all of the conflicts and wars of our world would end. Earth is different from Remnant in the sense that you
people have a real enemy, Grimm, but on Earth… the enemy is us. Humans kill each other. For reasons I
have yet to understand."
"But…" Weiss asked, "That's not really why you joined the army?"
"No…" Marco said, and looked to the fire. "It's because…. Everybody doubted me. My own family did.
They thought I was not a man, just because I was smart and had gone to a computers school. They all
didn't see me as a man. Nobody did. I was….. just so angry…." Yang then patted him on the back.
"So I joined the Regular Army. It wasn't easy at first. I couldn't see my family at all. I thought that when I
was done, I'd prove them I was a man. But…. When the First Modern War was finished…. I found out my
whole family was dead." Marco's fists then clenched, "And then, I was a solider to avenge my family's
death. And Tarma was there to help me out."
"Then during the second Modern War, Eri and Fio came to help me and Tarma out. I guess…" Marco
paused, and continued, "I guess it was when they came that everything changed. At first, we just saw them
as comrades, but Tarma must've seen more in Eri, possibly because they're the same country people. But I
didn't get the same view in Fio, until the Third Modern War. It was after we got away from the Martians,
and were stranded in the middle of the ocean. I was out, and then I heard a voice, telling me not to go. I
slowly regained consciousness, and I saw her, and she was…. Crying. Real tears, going down her face. She
actually care about me, more than I had thought."
Blake then said, "Well, you should be glad about that."
Meanwhile….
Ruby could hear noises, and as she peeked over the rubble, with Zwei chasing his tail, she saw Walter and
Tyra, and a WF solider in the distance. "Who are those two?" she whispered, and could hear Walter saying,
"This is the last time I'm being the bait. I don't wanna die on this job!" Tyra then commented, "Relax,
you're a distance runner. You told me that you're a 15 time gold winner in 100 m distances."
"Yeah, but killing these Grimm by being bait wasn't what I trained for."
Ruby then followed them, slowly and carefully, with Zwei following quietly as well. Then, the ground
under Ruby collapses, causing her to fall in, with Zwei standing several centimeters away and barking.
Underground
Alisa was walking with Perry in a corridor, saying, "I don't remember this part of the city." Perry then
replied, "I know. There are many hidden places."
Then they both heard from the other side of a door, what sounded like rubble collapsing. Perry kicked the
door open, and Alisa had pulled out the Super Grenades, only to see Ruby standing. "Who are you?" they
both asked, and Alisa put her gun away, and said, "Now don't worry, I have no idea how you-"
"FREEZE!" Perry said, pulling his gun out. Ruby looked at Alisa up and down, and said, "Your clothes,
they look like…. Fio, Eri, and Nadia's!"
Alisa's eyes widened, "You've seen them? Where?! Are they here?!" Perry then grabbed Ruby by the
wrist and said, "The boss will want to see you." "Wait!" Alisa begged, "I need to ask her a few questions!"
Perry then dragged Ruby all the way, while Alisa walked with him silently, looking at Ruby all the time,
when Ruby asked, "Are you… one of Fio's lost SPARROWS?" "Alisa then said, "Yes. I always begged to
get put into SPARROWS and after 2 years of that, they accepted."
Finally, Perry and Alisa came to some rail carriages, with Alisa saying, "Hey my friends are over there, I'll
see you alter BYE!" she quickly darted off.
Ruby is in trouble! And Alisa can be the only one to help her out! Or can she?
