It's been nearly a year, but I'll be doing my best to keep up with this.

Chapter 21: Wyvern Hatchling

In a forest on the outskirts of the capital, a large white egg stay. It began shaking, something poking away at it's shell. In a few minutes, the shell of the egg was cracked open, and a small white wyvern broke it's head through. It let out a small shriek, and worked it's way through the rest of the egg. It fell onto the ground, and hurried to sit up straight. It let out it's shriek once again and looked around. All that was around it was trees. The small creature got onto all fours and began walking slowly towards noise. The noise it heard was a conversation between two people just outside the forest. The creature halted as soon as it saw the foreign creatures. It whimpered and backed away, continuing on it's path, but elsewhere. While on it's walk, the baby wyvern came across several different humans, but didn't approach them. Over time, it grew less frightened, as the humans it came across were all harmless. The wyvern eventually made it's way into town, looking for a place where it wouldn't be detected. Despite being somewhat scared by all the humans around it, the small creature was also fascinated. It was stopped by a smell which it found extremely alluring. It followed the smell, all the while avoiding any and all humans. The scent eventually led it to the Renais Academy.

Meanwhile, Cormag stared outside of the window as his brother spoke, as he usually did. "What..?" He noticed the same small wyvern walking outside of school. "A wyvern…?" Cormag formulated a plan to deal with the creature. "How can I think of a way to get out of class for an indefinite amount of time… that's it! I'll just wait till the end. Maybe I can get Tana…" He did his best to not pay attention to it, but the creature stayed in his mind.

After the bell rang, he approached Tana. "I need your help with something."

"What is it?" she asked.

He glanced out the window, then looked back at her. "Just pretend to do something, then offer to take me to the nurse's office when I fall to my knees."

"Okay…?" She replied in an obviously confused tone.

Cormag walked over to his brother, covering his stomach. "Glen, remember when I drank that milk this morning?"

Glen looked through his papers, and not at his brother. "The milk that expired three days ago? Is it getting to you?"

Cormag gave a weak chuckle. "Yeah… I'm not feeling too well. Can you write me a note to the nurse's office?"

Glen ceased what he was doing and did just that. "Next time I tell you to stay away from something expired, if it did so that day, do it." He held it out. As Cormag reached for it, his knees buckled and he fell down clutching his stomach.

Just as she was told, Tana rushed over to him. "Are you okay, Cormag?" She looked at Glen, worry on her face. "Should I take him to the nurse, Mr. Surge?"

Glen added just a little bit to the note before handing it to her. "Best of luck. I hope he doesn't throw up on you or anything."

Tana helped him up and out the door after getting their bags. "Good work, Cormag."

He let go of her and took his bag. "Not sure if I'd agree. I don't have the strongest stomach, so he'd obviously think there was really something wrong with me."

"What was that all about anyway?" She inquired.

Cormag rushed to a window and scanned the area briefly. "I saw a baby wyvern out here. It's not common to see them alone, especially near humans."

Tana smirked once she heard his answer. "Nice to know you reached out to me to help with this. So, where are we going first?"

"It looked like it was looking for something… something it was smelling. If anything it headed for the cafeteria."

The two began heading there, but wary to anyone who might see them. "Are you sure it's a good idea to do this? We'll get in trouble if we're seen. We have a note, but it's for the nurse's office; It won't explain why we're in the cafeteria of all places." Tana seemed worried about their search, even though she was excited not too earlier.

"What, this your first time skipping a class? I think you're worrying too much."

The two sneaked around searching, but found nothing in the cafeteria, until they heard a scream. They hid behind a table and listened in on what was happening.

"What's wrong sir?" One of the chefs ran to the head chef, who was the one that scream. The young woman screamed as well. "A-all the food is gone!"

"What could have happened to all of it. I-it was right here! I just turned around for a few minutes…!"

The two eavesdroppers snuck away, and dropped their guard once outside. "So, it was definitely here. Where could it have gone?"

Cormag thought for a moment, then ran off. Tana caught up to him, but didn't have to ask for him to answer. "When my Wyvern, Fang eats, he usually rests under a tree so he can digest it. This little guy might do the same thing…" He stopped in his tracks. "Fang usually sleeps for a few hours after eating, depending on how much he ate. That little thing ate all of our lunch. It should be out for the rest of the day. Let's head to math."

The two of them went to class, and the day went quite well for them. Surprisingly enough, Seth wasn't suspicious of the two being gone for practically half the class.

After the final bell rang, the two bolted outside.

"What's up with them?" Eirika wondered aloud.

"It does seem odd. They were gone for half of math, and now they bolt the second the final bell rings." Lyon walked behind her, also questioning the two.

Outside they frantically searched around the trees on campus. Their search finally ended after Tana approached a tree behind the school. She gently walked over to the wyvern and looked at it. "It's so cute…" The little creature slowly opened its eyes and looked at her. She froze for a moment, but the wyvern laid it's head in her lap instead.

"I see you found it." Cormag knelt down next to her and petted it. "I assume you just have an animal loving air. Kinda surprised that it didn't try to run or anything."

Tana picked the hatching up and held it close to her. "Easy there, little one…"

"How about you take him with you? I can help if you need me." Cormag offered.

"It's fine. I don't think it'll be too bad."

Cormag gave her a cocky grin. "Pegasi and Wyverns are quite different Tana. I'm used to Wyverns, you aren't."

She then accepted his offer. "Um… how am I supposed to leave campus with him on me?"

"Let's go through the woods. No one will see us there. So, what are you going to call him?" Cormag stood next to her and looked at the sleeping wyvern.

"I think I'll call him 'White'." She turned around and began towards the forest.

Cormag gave a chuckle and followed her. "Naming him after his color? That's kinda lame."

"Whatever."
