Yes, trust your eyes! This is a new chapter! I wanted to use this Thanksgiving to thank all of my readers by writing a new chapter for both of my frozen stories and my LK one. This story is still on hiatus unfortunately but soon I should be wrapping up my LK story and then I can focus on this one. ;)
With that said, Happy Thanksgiving!
This may be my longest chapter for this story to date, and I hope it was worth the wait.
Thanks for all the reviews, it really supports me and encourages me to keep writing!
DON'T LEAVE UNTIL YOU READ MY ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE BOTTOM!
Enjoy!
Anna's POV
Clank!
I stumble over yet another bin of empty glass bottles. I sigh. Elsa would be shaking her head at my stealth attempt right now... And Since when has Arendelle been such a dreary place? I peek out from my hiding spot in an alley behind a barrel. I'm starting to understand why Elsa showed up in a cloak, this is a really crowded place. Another troop of armed guards walk by and I duck down quickly. And why are there so many guards out and about?!
I hear the group come to a stop nearby. A gruff voice calls out making me jump.
"By order of the Queen, I command you to submit any pitchforks, knives, or other sharp and pointy objects within your possession."
I frown. The queen? That doesn't sound like something Elsa would order… I peek over to see a group of guards with a cart full of items I can only assume are from the people. The man is pleading with the guard to let them keep the saw so he can still cut wood for his family. The guard ignores him and I frown. If I wasn't on a mission right now, I would stomp right over and say something. I puff out my cheeks in frustration before moving on towards the castle.
I'm coming, Elsa…
Elsa's POV
"Elsa, you are not going to hide in there today. I forbid it."
I shoot more ice to block the entrance of my closet before crossing my arms.
"No."
Hans' muffled voice scoffs from the other side of my ice wall.
"Stop acting like a child. I Have Gerda and Helga here to get you ready. I only become king once!"
I can't help but roll my eyes at his lame attempt to lighten the mood for me.
"Still no, Hans. I will only ruin the occasion and besides, Father said I'm supposed to always stay out of sight so-"
I jump at a sudden thumping sound on my ice wall, and I could see an outline of the side of my brother's fist on the other side.
"Our father was stubborn! And I don't care if he would approve, I want my sister to be there when they place the crown on my head. And If I have a sister with ice powers then So be it."
I hug myself and lean back into my dresses hanging up.
"But what if snow comes out? Or someone gets hurt because of my ice? Or what if-"
His voice cuts me off sounding facetious.
"What if the sky falls down and a cow usurps Arendelle? Or worse... Our people love having a princess with icy powers to protect them? And-"
'THUNK' on the ice.
"I."
THUNK.
"Am."
Another 'THUNK' ensues with a smaller crackling sound.
"Your brother!"
Thun-CRACK!
And my ice wall falls to reveal Hans standing there holding a large solid candlestick holder like a club breathing heavy.
" ...And I don't intend to let you...shut yourself away for doing nothing wrong."
I stare at my brother in surprise.
"B-but I am dangerou-"
He walks into my closet stepping over chunks of ice and pulls me into a tight hug, it feels so warm that I sink further into my brother's arms. He squeezes me gently and whispers in my ears.
"Only to our enemies. To me, you will always just be my little sister. And nothing will tear us apart."
...
I clutch the side of my head again as the memory fades and I take a moment to catch my breath. Since dinner two nights ago, these memory flashes have become more frequent. I asked Hans last night if I could possibly see a physician when I told him how my head hurts whenever a new memory surfaces. But Hans assured me it only hurts because I have powers and that I shouldn't worry. I trust my brother, I really do…it's just that the pain only keeps getting worse.
The door opens and I look up from my work surprised Hans would be here today. I stand up and take a few steps closer to the door only to freeze. Flashes of fear, sadness, and confusion swirl inside me as Anna slides in wearing a strange collection of green foliage on her head. She shuts the door quickly and looks around as I step back.
"A-Anna?! What a-are you doing here?!"
Anna's POV
"A-Anna?! What a-are you doing here?!"
My heart breaks as Elsa stumbles back as if to get away from me wide eyed. I glance down at her gloved hands and matching outfit and frown. Elsa's dress Is a warm cream color with lines of gold on the hems and the waist color has a dark purple that fades to back. I notice she also is wearing a metal hexagon necklace but at least her hair is still in her side braid she favors. Overall It all looks strange on her yet familiar. I look back up to her.
"I can't believe Hans locked you up in here! Does he ever let you out of here?"
Elsa fiddles with her gloves nervously.
"We do dinner together... Oh and we play chess in the library."
She offers as if to defend her so called "brother" but I don't miss the small wince she did when she mentioned the library and I remember she thinks she can't read. That must really be bothering her that she thinks she can't read.
I give her a smile and step towards her.
"Anyway, we can talk about this later. Let's get out of-"
To my surprise, Elsa reels back wide-eyed.
"No!"
I look at her confused. That wasn't a voice of fear like I had expected…that was a voice filled with anger.
"What? But Elsa –"
She shakes her head rubbing her temples wincing.
"Anna, you need to go. I…I remember what you did…and It was not okay."
I wrack my brain trying to think she could possibly mean.
Suddenly, Elsa winces and grabs her head.
Elsa's POV
I stand next to Hans as he gestures to a girl with two strawberry blond braids brightly smiling at us.
" Elsa, this is Anna. Anna, this is my sister Elsa."
I swallow nervously as I give the girl a polite smile. For Two days Hans has been talking about this girl and I have been dreading this meeting.
FLASH!
I start to sink to the ground as the boat my brother was forced onto sails farther away. I watch the boat taking Hans into exile from my window till I hear Anna come in quietly. Even though I want to be alone, I don't bother to put up an ice wall. The people and council wanted to hang Hans but Anna put a stop to it thankfully.
Anna approaches and hugs me tightly.
"Elsa, I know it's hard to believe. I can't believe Hans did it either but, I need to you to stay strong okay? The people need you, and I promise... I will be right here."
FLASH!
"Elsa, No,no,no, wait!"
I try to walk past Anna but I feel her grasp my hand I feel my glove come slipping off. I whip back to her in a panic.
"Give me my glove!"
Anna holds my glove out of my reach.
"Elsa please, you can't live like this anymore! I can help you control your powers.
I stiffen and glance around to see that no one is in earshot.
"How do you know about…it?"
Anna bites her lip nervously.
"Hans told me…before he was banished. Look, the gates should be open and I can't stay here watching you destroy what Hans was trying to build by closing up like this!"
I stare at the girl who has been there for me and my brother weighing my options. She knew my secret but didn't share it with the world, she didn't treat me any differently because of them either. But what she doesn't know is that Hans wasn't trying to use my powers like our father. My eyes water.
"Then leave."
Anna looks crestfallen and I turn back to the door feeling awful. Anna's voice rises.
"What'd I ever do to you?"
She's going to cause a scene. I glance back feeling the strain of my powers.
"Enough, Anna."
I hear Anna take a step towards me and I notice people starting to glance at us.
"No, why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out?"
I squeeze my eyes shut to in effort to stay calm. Anna continues but louder.
"WHAT are you so afraid of?!"
It was like my father all over again. Finally, I couldn't take it and I whip around to face my brother's fiancée.
"I said ENOUGH!"
Without really meaning to, I shoot ice throughout the room and a barrier of jagged ice between me and the crowd including Anna.
The room gasps as the delegates step away from my icy spikes.
"Sorcery…"
I glance over to see a short dignitary with a mustache hiding behind his bodyguards as he glares accusingly at me. The crowd moves back slightly, all except Anna who is looking at me with surprise.
"Monster."
I stare at the horrified face of the rooms as I desperately reach behind me to find the door knob.
As I push open the door, I spot Anna's frown grow into a grin as I run out.
...
I grab my head and my knees buckle causing me sink against my desk in pain. Anna steps closer looking concerned.
"Elsa?!"
I pull off my right glove before holding out my hand at the traiter, as I slowly start to straighten up again.
"Stay…Stay back."
To my surprise, Anna steps back wide-eyed.
"Elsa? What did I do?"
I feel angry tears roll down my face as I glare at her.
"I finally remember what you did the night of my coronation. Your fake concern as you pulled my glove off…I should have known."
Anna's face drops and she doesn't even try to deny it. My heart starts to hurt, I didn't want to believe Hans. Anna's eyes sink downwards towards the ground.
"You really think I meant to do that?"
She points to the crate filled with the newest batch of ice swords I finished making today.
"Is that why Hans has been making you do this? Because I'm that much of a threat?"
My brow furrows. Hans still thinks I froze her… so why is he making me create swords? I shake my head to clear the thought. I grit my teeth at the girl.
"Stop trying to trick me! Please just go!"
Anna's eyes snap back up to me filled with hope.
"Why do you keep letting me escape if you think I'm so bad? You can feel it, can't you?"
Anna steps back towards me.
"You know how wrong this all is."
I shake my head.
"Hans has been doing everything to help the people since he returned. The people are finally happy and Hans will explain to them I'm only here to protect them."
Anna's jaw drops.
"No he isn't! Trust me, I just snuck through the town to get here and no one was happy. Hans has been having the royal guards bullying the people in YOUR name! I don't think they even know he's here."
I stare at her confused before axplination comes to mind.
"You had framed him for our parents murder and turned the town against him like you did to me… he probably knows they fear me too much to protest at the moment but he doesn't have powers so they aren't scared pf him."
Anna's brow furrows.
"Elsa please, I'm not lying to you. Hans is using you, I bet he never even intends to let you out of here."
I glare at the girl.
"Do not talk about my brother that way. He put me in here for my protection! Once his coronation is passed, he will finally be able to help the people understand I'm not a monster."
Anna's eye widen.
"First of all, everyone knows you're not a monster. Second… when did you say that coronation is?"
I shuffle my feet. Truthfully, I don't have a clue. Hans never told me and I've been too nervous to ask.
"Soon."
Anna looks frustrated.
"I knew it. Elsa I-"
I hear my door open and I stiffen. Please no, no, no.
"Elsa have you finished-"
Silence. Slowly I turn to see Hans and I step back. He looks beyond angry, in fact he looks like he's going to kill someone. I look back at Anna then back to my brother.
"H-Hans, I-I-I swear I d-didn't mea-"
Hans stomps forward with his face red.
"How is this possible?! You are supposed to frozen IN. MY. GARDEN."
Anna raises an eyebrow.
"Your garden? You mean to tell me you put me in your garden?!"
Hans freezes before slowly turning to me.
"Elsa?"
His calm voice makes my heart drop and I start shaking.
"Y-yes?"
Hans steps closer to me and I back up.
"The ice statue…tell me, was that really Anna? Don't. Lie. To me."
I continue to back up as he advances and I desperately try to think of an answer.
"I-I-I"
Anna slides in between us with her arms out as if to protect me.
"Stay away from Elsa!"
Hans looks surprised for a moment before starting to laugh and steps away from us. I shrink back. Why is he laughing? He spots something on the ground and picks it up, it's the key to my room. He stands there pretending to study it.
"I should have known something was up when my key disappeared off my desk earlier…"
He chuckles and shakes his head.
"Oh Elsa, Elsa, Elsa…You didn't heed my warning."
His face looks serious when he looks at me before continuing darkly.
"Anna is not to be trusted."
With that he calls out to any guards nearby and we he many footfalls approaching fast.
Anna's POV
The guards come in and surround us quickly. What now?! I look back at Elsa to find she's sunk to the ground hugging herself.
"Elsa, we have to- Hey!"
I'm suddenly lifted off my feet by some guard I've never seen before, in fact… none of them look familiar. Another comes over to help restrain me as I struggle trying to get back to Elsa.
Hans slowly walks over to my sister standing over her with his smirk on his face. Without turning to the guards, he speaks.
"Kill her in secret. Do not let anyone see you. I have to deal with…my sister."
I struggle even more when I see Elsa flitch at his words.
"Elsa, no! It will be okay, I promise!"
Elsa doesn't react at all as Hans steps closer to her. The guards escort me out and someone put sack over my head effectively making my world black. I continue struggling and yelling although with the sack, my voice is very muffled.
After a few mineutes, I hear the clang of what sounds to be a door and I can feel a slight breeze. We must be outside now.
"Helllloooooo there!"
The group seems to halt at the voice but I can't help but smile. I was wondering where he wondered off guy holding me tightens his hold.
"Who are you? Show yourself!"
I hear familiar steps waddling over.
"I'm Olaf, and I like warm hugs!"
The group seems stunned for a minuet but before anything else can be done, I feel myself dropping out of the guard's hands as he grunts. I quickly yank the sack off my head and squint at a the sudden light as I scoop up the giggling snowman and run.
"Olaf what just happened?!"
Olaf pats my arm as he waves behind us.
"Oh! I just made some new friends who helped us out. We wanted to do a snowball fight but there's not really anymore snow around here…BYE MY NEW BUDDYS! LET'S PLAY AGAIN SOMETIME!"
I look back to see a group of the kids from the town up on the roofs throwing large balls of mud at the guards effectively keeping them busy. One kid smiles and waves before we round the corner and head out towards the forest.
Once we are safe, I put the snowman down as I breath heavy, for a snowman he isn't light… Olaf is still chatting away about his new friends when he suddenly looks around concerned.
"Wait, where's Elsa?"
I frown before glancing back at the castle.
"She…She's still with Hans."
I clench my fist.
"But I promise, we'll get her back."
Elsa's POV
Hans drags me deeper into the dungeons and I struggle to keep up.
"Hans, I'm sorry. I was wrong, I just thought maybe she could-"
Hans finally stops at the end of the hall and turns to me.
"What? You thought she have a change of heart and apologize?! Elsa the throne doesn't belong to her! And until you learn that…"
He slides the bolt back on a door and pushes me in. Before I can react, he incases my still gloved hands into strange metal cuffs that look new. I feel a twinge in head…has this happened to me before. Hans turns away from me and stops at the door before continuing.
"I can't trust you. So from now on, this is where you will be. I will get rid of Anna myself this time."
I tug at the chains trying to reach my brother.
"I-I'm Sorry. Please H-Hans, let me-"
The door slams shut and I sink down onto the cot feeling more alone then ever.
...Yeah, sorry this isn't satisfying but the story is still far from over.
I hope you enjoyed this and please be sure to leave a review with your thoughts!
Thanks for reading!
