Kori rubbed her eyes. She was in the train's bathroom mirror, trying to freshen up as best as she could at this point. The intercom came on.
"Attention, my fellow travelers, we'll be entering Bismark, North Dakota in about half an hour."
Kori couldn't hear the rest because she was too busy buzzing with excitement. They were finally in North Dakota!
She squealed as she hastily shoved open the train's bathroom door and ran towards the others.
Richard was the only one who was up. He was looking outside the window, glasses off.
"Richard!" She squealed. Shocked by her sudden appearance, he hurried up and slid his glasses on. "We're in North Dakota!" She announced.
"He smiled. "Yeah, I heard. Just a few more hours to go before we reach your brothers town."
"Yaaay!" She jumped up and down. Then suddenly stopped. "Richard."
"Yeah?"
"What if he gets mad for me coming to him! What if he won't hug me or greet me or cry or-"
Richard put a hand on her shoulder before she started jumping to conclusions. Not that she wasn't already. "Don't worry. He'd have to let you in seeing that you came all this way just to see him." Richard reassured.
She nodded absently and sat down. She began envisioning what she'd do when she seen him.
Tara sat in a secluded room. The only other person in there was that stupid police cop.
"Made up your mind?"
"Sir, as much as I appreciate you doing your job, please don't make me do this!" She begged.
He looked at her hard with concern. "I have to do what I have to do." He replied.
She licked her lips then sucked in a huge breath. "Do I have to?"
"Yes."
She was quiet for a few seconds. "Kori said that she saw her brother at the mall, so she looked him up and they're all going to his house." She said.
The police officer looked at her as if she was crazy. "Kori's brother is dead. Stop lying. I don't have time for this!" He slammed his fist down on the metal table before him in frustration. Tara winced.
"Stop telling me lies and tell me the truth!" He demanded.
"I am! If you don't believe it, then that's your problem!" She yelled.
"Tara, I just want you to tell me where they are. Is that so hard?!"
"What do you want me to tell you?! They're Runaways! It was clear from the beginning!" She crossed her arms." You know what, I've had enough of this. I came back to bring up my grades. I refused a great sight-seeing trip with other teenagers to go back school, and that's saying something! So I would like it of you'd stop pestering me for information that I don't have. Goodbye." She got out her seat and walked out the door.
The frustrated policemen punched the wall. What was he going to do with her?
Rachel opened the window again. The others were behind her, patiently waiting to hop off the train. Victor already bid farewell to Sarah Simms and fortunately got her phone number as well.
One by one, they quietly hopped put the window. They ran inside the train stations doors where the other people were coming in and out of. There was some stores stationed around.
"Uh, imma go explore for a bit." Kori said.
"...Okay..." Rachel said. She turned around towards the gift store. "Hey, can I come with you?" Richard asked.
Rachel shrugged. "Sure."
As Rachel and Richard walked to the gift store, Victor and Garfield were already running towards the candy shop. Kori walked into the mini Wal-Mart. It was the size of an ordinary gas station, so it had little shelves of little containers of mouth wash, lotion, deodorant, and hair brushes along with some candy next to the cashiers counter. She walked to the Listerine shelf. There were also some little containers of floss too.
She teared out some floss and used a nearby mirror to help her clean out the gunk off her teeth. After that, she looked around the isle to see if anyone was watching then hurried up and pulled the cap off the listerine bottle. Then she filled her mouth with stuff and gurgled it into her mouth. It took all of her strength not to scream out and spit put the stuff. She hadn't known there was a sore bottom half of her lip.
She quickly spit the listerine into a corner of the store and walked to where the hair supplies were. She picked out an efficient brush and began brushing her hair. Then she deodorant ans "tested" it to see if it worked.
Now feeling a bit more clean than before, she threw away the supplies she used happily walked out the store.
Victor had gotten sick of eating candy and was now frantically running to the men's bathroom.
She sat on the bench for a few minutes until Richard and Rachel came back.
"Can we go now?" Kori asked.
"Yeah...Where's Victor?" Richard asked. Kori looked pointedly to the men's bathroom. "He's getting rid of unwanted waste. I hope he is okay." Kori wished.
Richard was confused on why she hoped he was okay when he was just going to the bathroom. Victor walked out the bathroom looking a bit green.
"Oh.."
Rachel walked to the candy store. Among little kids running there was Garfield, trying samples for each and every kind of candy. She approached him.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I'm eating."
"I really don't think you should eat all this candy after eating so much cake." She said.
"But that was days ago!" He whined.
"Still. You might have gotten a cavity by now," She said. She grabbed his hand and dragged the candy obsessed Garfield out the store. Kori and Richard were asking a stranger if they could hitch a ride to Minot while Victor was sitting on the bench, no doubt trying to obtain throwing up again.
All of them said no.
"Now how am I supposed to see my brother!" Kori cried. "I feel like I'll never get to him!" She buried her face in her hands.
"Can't we just walk there?" Garfield asked.
"That would take hours. It already takes two hours just to drive up to Minot." Kori said.
The five classmates were left with uncertainty.
What if they never get to Kori's brother?
So I feel lie I had said this every chapter. I'm so sorry for not updating! I also just wanted to say this story might be almost over. Almost. Will they ever get to Kori's brother or will he be dead by the time they get there? *Hint Hint* Who do you guys think is the so-called killer?
