I think I should apologise for ending the chapter like that... and for the feels... really...
Anyhow, I wrote another chapter...
Crystal stumbled forward and crumpled on the ground beside the cold corpse of her best friend, tears threatened to spill out of her eyes. She let them fall but couldn't believe what she saw, there was no way he was... not at all. She had prepared herself for injuries for her own death but not for this. Part of her still expected him to jump out and laugh, tease his family for falling for it; it didn't matter than the body was cold and without a pulse. She noticed that a ghost of a smile still graced his face and she couldn't bear it any longer. Shakily, she got up and took baby steps away from the source of her grief toward the remaining Weasley family and they stood there without making a sound. The silence only broken by the wails and sobbing of Mrs. Weasley.
Then the people in the hall seemed to shuffle outside, each letting out a cry of anguish as they seemed to stand out into the opening. Crystal and the Weasley family were carried along with the movement. Still feeling numb from the loss, it took her eyes some time to focus on the line of death eaters in front of her until her gaze fell upon a familiar mop of hair, all hope was snatched away from her.
"It is over! You see?" shouted Voldemort in triumph as he paraded around the body "Harry Potter is dead! Do you understand now, deluded ones? He was nothing, ever, but a boy who relied on others to sacrifice himself for him"
Crystal felt bitterness swelling up inside of her until Ron's voice came from behind her. "He beat you!"
"He was killed as while trying to sneak out of castle grounds- killed trying to save himself-" Crystal wanted to scoff but the charm forced her voice to stay inside of her. Someone broke free from the crowd and was disarmed before anything could happen.
"And who is this?" Who has volunteered to demonstrate what happens to those who continue to fight while the battle is lost?"
Looking closer she saw that it was Neville and her heart sank deeper at his doom. The spectacle unravelled in front of her, her hand gripping tighter onto her wand.
Then, all of a sudden everything happened at once; from the distance came loud war cries from what seemed like hundreds of people then a glint of silver caught her eye and she saw that Neville now had a silver blade in his hands. Before she could see what happened next, Crystal was dragged back into battle by a curse coming her way. This time she wasn't so lucky and dodge too late as the curse hit her square on the shoulder. She sucked in a hard breath as the pain hit her with such force, the spiking pain lingered for a long time refusing to fade away. Without checking the damage, Crystal pointed her wand at a death eater's back shooting a curse without second thoughts. The cloaked figure fell before her and she was face to face with a terrified looking third year student.
"Run and hide" she hissed desperately and she shot another curse across the child "you're not supposed to be here!"
Crystal didn't wait for a reply as she run past the child, deeper into the castle to fight. From her peripheral vision, she could see magical creatures of all sorts joining in on the fight. She eventually found her way fighting in a group as their allies finally seemed to outnumber the enemies. Eventually very few were left and she could slow down without worrying over a barrage of incoming spells. From not so far away she could hear the furious screams of Molly Weasley and she battled the fearsome Bellatrix Lestrange then they stopped and she heard a thud on the ground. Turning slowly, Crystal hoped with all her might that it was the madwoman who fell and not Mrs. Weasley but before she could fix her gaze at the spot where the two women were fighting she heard a familiar voice as it shouted across the room. She added to the surprised gasps as she find found him and moved back as he and Voldemort circled each other, Harry shouted out for the others not to interfere. Crystal watched in hopeful anticipation as the duel commenced, each repaying curse with curse, disdainful remarks with worse insults and until their final spells hit each other with great force.
Then the Dark Lord was dead.
There was a moment of shocked silence and then cheers erupted around the room and a genuine smile crept its way onto her face. The crowds ran up to Harry with cheers and congratulations. Dawn had arrived and the warm light of the sun crept slowly up the sky as the people around her began to shift back to the hall, lightening the mood as well as the sky. She stayed still, locked in a daze, as the people around her kept moving past. Almost as quickly as the battle had started, it ended and Crystal needed time to process the jumble of events and organise them in her head. She was so dazed, in fact, that she didn't even notice the man staring at her until he finally called her name.
"Crys" ventured Charlie, snapping Crystal from her thoughts.
"Charlie?" she replied, enjoying the way his name rolled off her tongue, a familiar feeling after so long.
He replied by running forwards to envelope her in a hug, his arms wrapped themselves around her and she eased herself into the hug. Then, without warning, Charlie lowered his lips to hers and captured them in a tender kiss. Crystal relished in the feeling as her chapped lips pressed against his and moved to wrap her arms around his neck but she was stopped by a sharp pain in her shoulder. Charlie broke the kiss and looked at her, worried.
"You're hurt" he stated and Crystal shrugged.
"I don't know how badly, though" Charlie moved to check the wound but she brushed him off with her left hand, remembering Fred in the hall "That can wait" she said, her tone solemn "You have to go to your family first."
Without another word, Crystal grabbed his hand leading him into the great hall, keeping her eyes away from the bodies for fear that they would break her. Even so, the pain of losing her dear friend hurt her more than her physical wounds and each step she took grew heavier as scope of the tragedy pressed her harder onto the ground. So she led Charlie to where his family was and collapsed onto the bench next to the remaining Weasley family giving Charlie the time and space to come to terms with the loss. Fleur had offered to check and bind her wound for her and she accepted it thankfully, trusting her proficiency with wounds over her own; she had always been the ones to get them, not fix them.
The tears were threatening to spill again by the time Ron had come back to hug his mum, accompanied by Hermione and Harry each wearing solemn expressions. Sometime in the midst of her daze, Charlie had come around to sitting next to her, he took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly. They sat there in silence, neither trusting their voices not to fail them.
She didn't know how long had passed until there was a shuffle beside her, by this time the adrenaline had run out and the battle had taken its toll on her so she lifted her head sleepily to the source of the noise. The three eldest Weasleys had gotten up and were shaking those beside them. Charlie's hand was still on hers and he tugged it lightly, urging her to get up. She complied her legs bending slightly at the sudden weight.
"It's time to go home and get some rest" Charlie said softly, gripping her closer to him.
Crystal simply nodded her head registering 'rest' as of utmost importance "Too tired to apparate." she groaned, digging her face into Charlie's chest. She'd hoped that he caught her drift.
Luckily for her, he did; with his chest still blocking her sight, Charlie let out a low chuckle holding her closer in his arms. She felt the world around her go blank the empty space seemed to push at her from all sides so she held on closer to Charlie until she felt the air around her take on the familiar, homey scent of the Burrow.
"Are we there?" she asked, as she lifted up her head from his chest, she already knew the answer.
Charlie nodded "Thankfully. The last time I apparated with someone, I landed on a muggle" he admitted causing Crystal to giggle, however she was caught in a yawn. Charlie smiled softly before tugging her up the stairs "let's get you to bed before you collapse on me."
Charlie led Crystal gently to his room, without another word she just flopped into the bed curling up into the blanket like a cat. By now, the rest of the Weasley family had returned to the burrow, everyone was too tired to fuss over sleeping arrangements and simply took the rooms that they had seen fit. Crystal snuggled closer into the pillow, breathing in the light smell of Charlie, she felt herself slowly drifting to sleep until she heard a shuffle of feet. She peeked through a half open eye and spotted Charlie shuffling his way away.
"Where're you going?" she mumbled, stopping him in his tracks.
He turned back to face her and replied sheepishly "to sleep on the floor?"
"Not happening. It's your bed."
"I don't live here anymore."
"Nor do I"
"You don't want to sleep on the floor either"
Crystal hesitated for a moment, it was true, she felt perfectly comfortable in the warmth of the blankets regardless, her manners were better than that "It doesn't matter, if you don't sleep on the bed, I'll sleep on the floor too."
"You're sleeping on the bed" Charlie announced with a hint of finality.
Crystal was about to argue back when an idea came to mind and she shuffled to the edge of the bed" Fine" she said with a wicked smile, catching Charlie off guard "You can sleep with me, or I won't sleep at all"
She patted the empty space on the bed expectantly, even in the dark she was sure that Charlie was blushing and she laughed. In the shadows, she could barely make out his hesitant shuffling but when he finally shuffled close enough she grinned and tugged at his arm, practically pulling him into the bed. After a moment of awkward shuffling on Charlie's part, the two found themselves comfortably in the bed. It was warmer with two people and Crystal found herself appreciating his presence; he felt like the giant teddy bear she got from her parents, he made the bed not feel as empty.
"That wasn't so hard, now, was it?" she whispered smugly.
Charlie simply replied with an unintelligible noise in the form of agreement causing Crystal to smile. Snuggling closer into Charlie's chest, she found herself drifting off into a much needed sleep. It was there, next to him, that she felt the safest she had in a long time and, for that moment, she could forget the troubles and pain around her.
Hmmm... I feel this ending soon.
You know what? I'll actually end that here. I think I'll upload a new 'story' with a collection of fluffiness for the two later.
