"I have one question before..."

"Go ahead."

"My little Asuka. Why her?"

"You mean why take her mother into the other Eva?"

"That's right. Because of your failure of an experiment on her, it caused madness in her family. Spill it."

CASE 21 PREVIEW:

2004

The memory of her mother is clear to her. Being six years old, Asuka met my son. Shinji.

...

"Shinji? Shin-Jee! SHIN-(LARGE INHALE) JEEEEEEEEE!" A small redheaded girl holding a stuffed furry crow looked around a garden impatiently.

"Oh. Emm... A-Sook-Ah?" A boy in the shadows behind a pillar said shyly.

"There you are! We're supposed to keep eachother company remember?! Or else our mommies will spank us." She wagged her finger his way. "Come out here will you?"

"S-Sure!" Little Shinji had the biggest smile on his face coming out of the shadows holding a blue rabbit.

"Look at the pretty flowers! They're all roses!"

"Do you like them because they're red?" Shinji went to pick one.

"Yeah. It's my favorite-" Asuka slapped his hand away. "Every rose has it's thorn little Shinji."

"Little?! Aren't I older? By like a WHOLE year?"

"Oh yeah.. then there's that other girl. Misato. She doesn't talk at all but she's way way older than us!" Asuka waved her arms in the air like there was something big she was trying to reach.

"Hee hee! She's not that big!"

"Well... She's 10 whole years! So that means something!'

"Wow. We're a little over half of that. That's ALOT."

"Let's go see her! See if that old lady talks!" Asuka giggled and grabbed Shinji's hand.

"D-Don't call her that! It's shrude!"

"You mean rude not shrude you doop!"

"Y-You're a doop!" The two argued back and forth as they ran through the empty halls.

"I'll ask momma where she is! Her playtime should be over with all the other adults!"

Screams erupt down the hall. "Someone upset?" Shinji looked down the hall.

"Momma." Asuka stood terrified. A woman in a black plug suit walked towards them with a knife in hand. Fresh blood off the cool steel.

"Mother. Father. They're locked away." The woman muttered with no life in her eyes.

"Kyoko! They're just kids!" Boston ran her way with a bloody lab coat. He was holding his side. Then Gendo appeared beside him with a shocked look.

"S-Shinji. Just go play in the garden where you came from." Gendo said calmly. A gastly roar came from deep inside the hall. A beastly roar. Then another alongside it.

"Children of the Lilum. You'll take me far away. You'll be there too." Kyoko approached them quickly. Not running.

...

It was a hazy memory. But it will always be remembered. I, Kaji heard what little Gendo could explain to me about the incident and why it happened. But simultaneous experimentation? How disgusting.

...

"Kaji, all the dates printed throughout history have been edited or scrapped by SEELE. So it's fine if you got your facts wrong. The only person who'll know all of this will be you. But you'll be dead soon. You see, anyone can pilot an Eva. But a soul needs to be used for the ghost's shell to be used. A woman's soul and human nature match most Eva models. Synchronization is easiest this way. We only thought it was a temporary thing to switch a soul to another body. Well we were proven wrong that day."

"I get that Gendo, but why... Asuka's mother."

"Simple. She volunteered."
