A/N: Hey there! I'm so finally that I was able to write this. It took me a while to plan this part out but I was finally able to get it done. The biggest inspiration for this chapter is the song 'Happier' by Marshmello. There will plenty mentions of his song in this story. Just a heads up. Also, thank you for your time and please let me know if you have any feedback. Thank you for your time.
Nilo'Rokor was my mother's name. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world with her long dark brown hair and her soft face. One thing that my mother had that I had never seen before was her faint freckles..no other quarians have them..but I thought they made her more beautiful in general.
The long day had been over. All of the ship meetings had ended and it was finally time for eight-year old Rina to head back home after the long day of dealing with Admiral Garrel's ship repair lectures. Nilo - her mother - hasn't been feeling well recently and Rina wanted to rush back home as soon as she could to make sure that her mother was feeling okay. There was never a time when her mother wasn't glued to the bed, she had been been that way for as long as Rina could remember and while that was no longer an issue, there had been a feeling of dread that had been poking at Rina all day. She didn't know why she was feeling that way, but she was all the more eager to make it back home.
Mother was never happy. There wasn't a single day where I couldn't see tear stains on her cheeks. She never left the bed and constantly tried to mask over all the pain she was feeling just to make sure I didn't feel it too. The one thing that she didn't know is that there were times where I could hear her cry..and it made me cry too.
After the short ship port transfer, the tiny quarian had made it back to her small living quarter. Her bright eyes had easily adjusted to the darkness of their small living space, and she didn't see the small bump in the bed. Her mother was laying there earlier and didn't express any desire to leave their living space. It was possible that her mother could have wanted to go for a walk for a little bit and will be back soon. Rina smiled a little bit at the thought and walked over to make the bed..only to stop short at omni-pad that was on the bed. Rina wanted to believe that her mother could have just dropped it on her way out, but it had one unread message. And that one message is what had shattered her entire being
To my sweetest daughter.
I hope you find this message so that you know that I am gone for good.
I have seen the way that the others treat you, and what they say is no better.
It is all my fault, and I have done this to you my sweet child. And I am sorry for this.
I hope that with me being gone, I can remove this burden from you.
I've wanted nothing more than to watch you grow, but unfortunately, my greif has kept that from happening.
All this pain and guilt has been eating me alive for the past eight years now, and it has finally consumed me.
My feelings on this no longer matter. What I want is no longer important. I want you to be happier, I want to see you smile, I don't want you to suffer anymore because of me but that means I'm going to have to leave so I'll go.
We will not meet again, my child. Admiral Rann has offered to look after you. Just know that I, Nilo'Rokor and your father, Saator'Rann love you very much.
When you find out the truth when you are older, you will understand why my sacrifice was necessary.
May this life treat you well now that I am gone. Farewell, my beautiful daughter.
I have not seen my mother ever since that day. I never knew what she meant by her 'sacrifice' or that she was 'gone' until she was found a year later..at least what was left of her anyways.
As the story went on, Xen had began to quickly piece everything together. Nilo'Rokor was someone who was a part of Shala'Rann's crew and there were whispered rumors that the two had an affair. Xen has heard many stories from the crew about a child being created from the affair and everything else. Shala'Rann has never spoken of the man, and Xen couldn't remember the man since it was a very long time ago but that's what was still going around. It made sense as to why the others had treated her differently, but it made Xen more mad to know that Rina hadn't done anything wrong to deserve the treatment. She was being treated like that to pay for her mother's mistakes, and that wasn't right.
"I'm assuming that my mother had abandoned me so that she could be with my father..she thought that I would have been happy and better off without her." Rina spoke up and Xen snapped out of her thoughts to see the tears that were welling up in her glowing eyes.
There was a silent curse that left the Admiral's lips as she forced herself up to her feet to reach Rina's side of the table and gave her a big hug. "I..do not wish to continue with this conversation." she concluded that she had enough of an explaination and she did not need to hear anything else about this woman. This Nilo woman had not only ruined a marrriage, but she had also hurt Rina in the process of running from those mistakes instead of facing them head-on.
Rina had reacted to the embrace very quickly and returned the hug almost immediately. There was a trace of tears in her eyes, but none of them were falling this time. It was like Rina was trying to force them to stay put. "I do not want you to leave me like everyone else. I never had anyone there for me and stay..Zorris never left me willingly but he is not the one I need. I need you." she explained as she pulled away from the admiral's arms and took both of Xen's hand into both of hers. "Promise me that you will never let go unless it's absolutely necessary. Promise me."[/b] she whispered softly staring into her lover's identical eyes.
There wasn't any doubt about Rina from the beginning, and Xen didn't plan on changing her mind about the subject either. "I promise." she whispered softly as she leaned in to press her forehead against Rina's. "I'll never let you go..not without a fight."[/b] she promised and Rina beamed enthusiastically like an ecstatic child on Christmas. The same smile that made Xen's heart melt every single time.
There isn't anything about you that I would change about you. You are perfect, my love, with all of your flaws in all. I want you to stay with me forever.
