Dove was overseeing the packing off her things for her trip to Bravos in her chambers, Harvey was sat on the floor in front of the T.V with Loras playing a racing game on the games console.
"I still don't understand why that cutthroat gets to be Captain of the Queensguard instead of me." Loras said bitterly, he'd taken Dove's decision better than she thought but that didn't mean he was happy about it.
"I told you I need you to be in charge of Harvey's security and that is a far more important job." Dove said and Loras grumbled something under his breath, but Dove could tell he agreed with her.
She was picking which jewellery she wanted to take with her, she didn't want to take too many as she was going to settle the Crown's debt after all, but at the same time she still needed to look like a Queen. The rose necklace Tywin had made for her sat at the bottom of her jewellery box taunting her, she'd thrown her wedding band in the sea, but she hadn't the heart to throw away her necklace yet.
One of the guards entered and bowed to Dove interrupting her thoughts of Tywin.
"My Queen, Tyrion Lannister is here to see you." The guard announced.
"Oh good send him in." Dove said and he nodded, bowed again and left to do as she asked.
"What do you want to see him for?" Loras asked once the guard was out of ear shot.
"You'll see." She said cryptically and left to meet Tyrion.
Tyrion also bowed when he saw her, he was feeling slightly nervous about why Dove wanted to see him because his father had abandoned her after all.
"My Queen I feel I must apologise for my father's treatment towards you." He said, his expression sincere.
"Don't be silly Tyrion you don't need to apologise for your father's behaviour." Dove said quickly.
There were both silent for a moment, Tyrion noticed Dove battered her eyelashes a few times as if trying to prevent any tears from falling.
"Are you ok?" Tyrion asked, feeling a wave of sympathy for her.
"I'm always ok," She answered dismissively "Now I haven't asked you here to discuss your father, I've asked you here as I have a proposition for you." She continued and perched herself on the edge of her desk.
"And what is that?" He asked.
"I'd like you to be Hand of the Queen."
"Me?" Tyrion asked in surprise.
"Yes you." Dove said with a chuckle.
"But I assumed Olenna would take on that role." He said stating what most people thought would happen.
"She is Queen Mother, she has no need to be Hand as well," She said "Besides she said it was too much paperwork for her." She added with a smile remembering their conversation.
"But why me?" Tyrion asked, yes he and Dove got along well when they were together but he never imagined she would ask him to take on such an important role.
"Why not you?" Dove asked arching a questioning eyebrow at him "You've served as Hand before."
"Yes temporarily in my father's place."
"Is that a no then?" She asked with a flicker of frustration in her voice.
"No forgive me you've taken me by surprise," Tyrion said realising how he sounded "I would be honoured to be your Hand." He said, and it was true he'd always had the opinion that Dove would be an excellent Queen.
"Excellent I have the feeling we will make a good team." Dove said and held out her hand to shake his.
"I agree." He said and shook her hand.`
"I'll need you to help Olenna oversee the running of the Kingdom while I'm in Bravos."
"Of course."
"And when I'm back we can start planning on how to turn this country around."
"I'll start thinking of ideas."
"Wonderful I already have a few myself."
"Who else were you thinking to have on your small council?"
"My father Stafford as Master of Coin, Varys shall remain Master of Whispers, after that I am open to suggestions, but I will appoint Sansa Clegane as Wardeness of the North."
"Perhaps we should consider my Uncle Kevan as Master of War?" Tyrion asked her tentatively.
"Perhaps," Dove said, thinking to herself that she wasn't keen on having too many Lannister's on the Small Council "I'm also sorry to have stolen Bronn from you."
"I'm a little disappointed but I know Bronn would much rather work for a beautiful woman than a dwarf."
"True," Dove chuckled and checked her watch "Please excuse me my plane should nearly be ready by now and I need to finish packing."
"No problem have a safe flight, your grace."
"Thank you."
Tyrion paused at the door and looked back at Dove.
"And for what it's worth my father is a cold hearted fool, you deserve better."
"Thank you Tyrion." She said quietly.
"Your grace." He said, inclined his head in respect for her and left the room.
After finishing packing and saying her goodbyes Dove left her chambers to find Bronn waiting for her. She was quite shocked by his appearance, he was wearing a suit and tie for a start, and he'd brushed back his hair and trimmed his beard, Dove had to admit he looked uncharacteristically smart.
"Your plane is ready, your majesty." He said touching his ear piece and Dove couldn't help smirking at how professional he sounded.
"Then let's get going I'd like to arrive in Bravos before lunchtime." Dove said and set off walking.
Bronn reached over and took her small travel case off her, she'd sent her other cases down after her maids finished packing but this one contained her jewellery.
"You look…" She trailed off trying to find the right words, she had to admit he was quite attractive when he tried "Appropriate." She finished, not wanting to give him the wrong idea.
"Thought I'd make an effort on the first day." He said, trying not to think too much about why he'd tried at all.
"Well thank you."
"Tyrion told me you've asked him to be Hand."
"I have."
"It's a good choice he's a good man."
"So it would seem." Dove said not elaborating any further as she could hear the paparazzi swarming outside.
"We can avoid them if you'd like?" Bronn suggested noticing the apprehensive look on her face.
"It will be worse if we do that." She answered as the palace doors swung open.
Suddenly everyone was shouting frenzied questions at her, many were holding cameras and microphones and were practically climbing over one another to get closer to Dove.
"Our sources inside the palace have told us Tywin left you shortly after your public address last night?" "Can you confirm he left you for another woman?" "Do you want the Iron Throne for yourself is that why he left?" "How will you rule without him?"
"I can confirm Tywin has left me and annulled our marriage." Dove said, her voice calm and steady therefore not revealing how defeated she felt.
"How will the Iron Bank react to this?" "Who will run the country while your absent?" "How does it feel to have two men leave you in such a short space, your grace?"
Dove looked at the woman who asked the last question, she was the first to address her as the Queen she was, and she sounded more sympathetic than greedy for a juicy story.
"I won't lie it hurts," Dove answered quietly, and no one shouted questions at her after this, instead the shifted uneasily obviously realising how callous their bombardment had been "But I can't feel too sorry for myself as I have Seven Kingdoms to rule, now please excuse me everyone I have a plane to catch."
At Casterly Rock Tywin watched Dove be ushered into a palace car by that cutthroat Bronn, he felt a stab of jealously as his hand touched the small of her back, but he then realised how foolish he was being. He left her after all.
Unsurprisingly to him she'd won over the vultures with her charming smile and big sad green eyes, she really was a natural in front of the cameras. He would be a villain in the public eye now, and perhaps that's what he deserved.
Away from her he realised what a fool he'd been although he would never admit it to anyone. Dove had been right he'd chosen her, he'd taken advantage of her grief and anger at Margaery, and all but pushed her up the throne steps. And for what? To leave her the minute she sat on that Iron Throne, because he'd realised, he didn't want her on the Iron Throne, he wanted the Throne with Dove as his Queen, but he'd underestimated her.
Now she was on her own, on her way to Bravos to deal with the Iron Bank who would certainly underestimate her too. Those uptight bankers had no idea what was about to hit them, with that thought a small smile touched the corner of his mouth.
Dove climbed up the steps of the small jet plane the Crown owned and was met by a cheerful flight attendant. He had a round boyish face, merry blue eyes and very white teeth.
"Good morning your majesty." He said, his voice had a lovely musical quality to it.
"Good morning."
"Can I offer you a glass of champagne?"
"Yes." Bronn said walking in behind her and whistling at the plane's luxury interior.
He then squeezed past Dove, flung himself across two seats and put his boots up on the white leather seats.
"No he won't," Dove said frowning at Bronn "And it's a little early in the day for me."
"Orange juice, coffee, tea?"
"Tea would be lovely."
"Ok I will get that ready for you after we take off."
Dove walked over to Bronn and slapped his feet off the seats.
"Were you raised in a barn?" She snapped and sat down at the opposite side of the plane.
"I might have been," He smirked "I certainly wasn't raised in a pretty rose stinking castle like you."
Dove pulled a face at him and removed her headphones from her clutch. She popped them in her ears, buckled her seat belt, leant back in her seat, and closed her eyes. She'd slept terribly that night, she'd dreamt she was chasing Tywin through the dark cell corridors of the Sept, but when she finally caught his arm it wasn't Tywin but Daemon smiling down at her, his hands either side of her face tilting her lips up and forcing her to kiss him.
Dove shuddered at the memory just as the flight attendant returned to do a quick safety demonstration, and the plane began to move towards the runway.
"Nervous?" Bronn asked her after their plane touched down in Bravos' airport.
"Yes." She admitted biting the end of her manicured nail.
"Well they've rolled out the red carpet for you." He said, looking out of the window.
"What?" She asked and leapt out of her seat, she sat beside Bronn and leant over his lap to peer out of the window. True enough there was a small gathering of people and a red carpet ready to be rolled out.
"Bet that doesn't help with your nerves." He teased and she scowled at him in reply.
She quickly headed back to her own seat and routed through her clutch for her compact and lip-gloss.
"You look fine." He reassured her with a chuckle.
"First impressions Bronn." She said through pouted lips as she applied a decent layer of gloss.
The plane came to a standstill and their flight attendant reappeared.
"Welcome to Bravos your grace, your bags are just about to be unloaded into the waiting car after that I will open the doors."
"Thank you." Dove said not really paying attention, she fluffed her curls and straightened her yellow dress before debating whether to put on a tiara.
"I wouldn't." Bronn said as if reading her thoughts.
She was about to retort when the doors to the plane were opened.
"I'll go first, check no one is pointing a gun or anything." He said getting to his feet and removing Dove's jewellery case from the overhead locker. He was gone a few minutes before returning with a smile on her face.
"No guns just a few people from the Iron Bank."
"The Iron Bank are waiting to greet me?" She asked with a frown and he nodded "I've never heard of that before."
"Oh well one of them seems pretty eager to meet you," He shrugged and gestured towards the doors.
Curious Dove left the plane and was hit by the heat of Bravos, she blinked her eyes adjusting to the sunlight before they settled on the small crowd gathered at the end of the red carpet. One man stood out in particular, he was young with broad shoulders and a very handsome face. He gave Dove a warm inviting smile as she descended the plane steps.
"Queen Dove, welcome to Bravos." He said, his voice was like melted chocolate, warm, delicious and very moreish.
"Thank you…" She trailed off.
"Dastan Pollux, I am one of the Iron Bank's Directors." He answered and bowed respectfully to her, everyone around him followed his example.
Dove wasn't fooled by his warm demeanour, she noticed those around him stood a little bit away from him as if they were trying not to stand too close to the sun.
"It's a pleasure and a surprise to meet you Mr Pollux, I didn't expect such a lovely welcome." She purred, his charm and position didn't intimidate her in fact she found it amusing he was trying to charm an expert charmer like herself.
"Call me Dastan please and as for your welcome, I told my colleagues at the Bank that we should show a foreign Queen the welcome she deserves." He said warmly and offered her his arm.
He was very handsome with curling black hair and unusual grey eyes flecked with violet, they way he was looking at Dove made it clear he was also admiring the view.
"That's very kind." Dove said and took his arm.
"Nonsense one of your first steps as Queen was to discuss Westeros debt with us, and that has earnt my respect." Dastan said looking through his thick dark lashes at her, a small prideful smile touched his lips.
"When is my meeting with yourself and your colleagues?" Dove asked him, ignoring his praise as she'd received better than that from Tywin.
"Tomorrow morning at 9:00am and in the meantime my car will take you to your hotel," Dastan said opening the door of a white limo for her "The Iron Bank have booked you in the best hotel in Bravos all expenses paid for by us."
"Oh?" Dove asked unable to stop the surprise in her voice, behind Dastan, Bronn raised his eyebrows too clearly, he agreed this was unusual too.
"I would also like to invite you to dinner this evening, you can ask me any questions you have in preparation for tomorrow's meeting." Dastan added as Dove slid into the limo.
"I will be delighted to meet you then." She said and gave him a coy smile.
Dastan smiled back at her and to her surprise removed a single white rose from his jacket pocket.
"Until then." He said offering it to her.
Dove accepted it with a genuine smile, she brought it to her nose, her eyes never left his and he froze captured in her gaze.
"I'll meet you in the hotel lobby at 7:00pm." He said clearing his throat.
"Until then." She echoed.
