(Somewhere deep in the woods of Mewni...)

Tears spilled down Maria's face, as she cried softly...

She still couldn't believe it, her precious daughter was gone! Gone from this world! And what did she have to show for their time together?

Nothing!

Nothing but arguing, and angry words!

There wasn't a moment in her life that her daughter Emma hadn't fought with her, she was born a fighter, and she had died fighting for this kingdom.

And what had she done? Did she try to stop her?

Did she beg her to stay home?

No she said, "Fine go and get yourself killed, see if I care." What kind of mother says that to her only child?

"I just can't take the guilt any longer." Maria whispered as she reached for a kitchen knife on her counter. "I want to be with them, with my daughter with my husband…" She takes the knife and presses it to her throat. "I just want to die…"

"But if you did that who would take care of this bundle of joy?"

Maria stops and turns towards the voice, she sees a strangely dressed boy with dark chestnut hair standing in her door way. He looks maybe 10 or 12, and he wear a red shirt and tan shorts while sporting a white and blue pine tree cap. But it is what the boy is holding that Maria finds most strange.

It's a new born baby girl, wrapped in a pink blanket and sleeping soundly. "Please don't go." The boy says. "She needs you."

More tears stream down Maria's face as she drops the knife. "You poor dears you'll catch cold if you stay out there." She jumps up to her feet and takes the baby from the boy. "Where did you come from?" She asked.

"Queen Melena doesn't want her." The boy said softly.

"Oh my, this is the Queen's new born." Maria was stunned. "I thought she looked more pregnant than fat at the wedding." She admitted.

"Will you take care of her?" the boy asked from behind her.

"Of course I can't just leave a child out in the cold, and a Princess at that!" Maria rushed to a cabinet, and pulled out an old baby bottle, before pulling out some Warnicorn's mike to heat over the fire place. "I can't believe that woman! Casting out her own child."

"It's okay." The boy said, still standing in the doorway behind her. "Queen Melena won't be a problem for much longer."

"If you're talking about the army of rebels that fought against her on Second Earth than I'm afraid they have fallen." More tears spilled from her eyes. "My daughter Emma was among them."

"No I don't mean them." The boy said. "Princess Star and I are going to kill her."

Maria couldn't believe her ears. Did a 12 year old boy just say he and the princess were going to kill the queen? 'Surely I miss heard him.' She thought still working on the milk with her back to the boy.

"No you heard me right we're going to kill her."

Maria whorled around to see the same boy, only his eyes were now glowing a demonic blue.

"And then I'm going to eat Star's soul, and then you-" the boy pointed at her. "You will be the new queen, and you will raise your new daughter to be good and just!"

"You're a demon!" Maria realized. "Why would you care about this child? Or our kingdom?"

"I don't." The boy admitted. "But Star does, and I promised her a good ruler to take her place when she's gone. And you and her half-sister here will fit the bill." He said before kissing the babies cheek, as he does so all the power he took from the Wand is transferred to her.

"Why, why me?" Maria asked trembling.

"Because despite what happened between you and your daughter you are a good mother, you simply didn't know how to feel supportive about her marching off to her death!" The demon told her. "You are a good mother and she needs you."

Maria looked down at the baby girl in her arms, and she knew that he was right. "I'll do it, I'll raise her to be the perfect princess." She promised.

"No raise her to be herself." The boy said. "Don't make the same mistakes you did with Emma. Let her be the woman she wants to be, support her by don't the one thing only a mother can do; and that by loving her unconditionally just the way she is."

"I will." Maria promised.

And with that the boy disappeared.

"Wait I don't even know her name!" She called out, but it was too late the boy was gone. The baby girl begins to cries softly.

Maria shushes her. "It's okay my dear, everything is going to be okay. You'll see, there is hope now that you are here…" she stopped realizing she had known the girl's name all along. "That's it, that's who you are. My little Hope." Tears stream down her face as Hope grabs hold of her index finger, and hangs on for dear life. Maria reaches for the newly made bottle of milk and begins to feed her. "Yes some day you will bring a new since of hope to all the land…"

Hope sucked hungrily on the bottle she was too small for anyone to think she could be anything right now, but a burden. However Maria knew the truth.

Sure she was small, but you know what they say: All you need is a little bit of Hope, To do the impossible…
