Kagome slowly edged her hand near her alarm clock and then gently pressed on the button before turning on her lamp on the ground next to her. She swung her feet over the lone mattress she had slept on and stared at her reflection in the mirror that also lay on the floor. She looked tired, dull lifeless brown eyes stared back at her. Kagome shook her head at herself before standing and stretching.
She began walking to the bathroom to take a shower before heading to school. After a nice and quiet fifteen minute shower, Kagome began to put on the uniform she had gotten acquainted with.
She put on a short plaid blue, white, and charcoal gray skirt, and then proceeded to put on her simple white collared shirt before tying a plaid ribbon around her neck. She walked back to her room and grabbed the black knee-high socks she normally wore and began slipping them on.
Kagome let a sigh escape her mouth, it seemed like that was all she was doing these days. The room she now called hers was bare. Nothing but a mattress, her lamp, alarm clock, and a pile of clothes that lay scattered in a corner of the room were evident.
She hated it.
Kagome grabbed her book bag and school blazer before heading to the door of the small condo she resided in. She closed the door and locked it, the small old looking key in her hand felt unfamiliar. She missed the key that she had decorated many times throughout the years, the one she normally placed in the tree at her old house.
The walk to the train station was nice, she enjoyed seeing other people rushing to the train station to get to their job or to school. Once she was on the train, she looked at her reflection in the window.
She didn't see the same lively girl she was before moving to the city, she saw a girl who missed her friends and wanted to go home, to her real home.
'I miss them.' She thought.
Inuyasha watched a bird fly around outside the window as class went on. The day was going by slowly and he just wanted to leave the hell hole.
"Inuyasha, pay attention." The teacher said as he eyed Inuyasha.
He simply looked warily at the teacher before turning back to the widow and staring outside. Least to say, him ignoring the teacher landed him outside the classroom for the whole period. When the bell rang, students rushed out of the classroom and Inuyasha walked back inside to get his things.
"You really shouldn't have ignored the teacher." Sango said as she handed him his note book.
Inuyasha took it from her. "He was getting on my nerves."
"Still though, there was no reason to do that. That's why you got in trouble." They began walking to their next class.
Inuyasha smirked. "What are you, my mother?"
Sango rolled her eyes. "No, I'd probably beat your ass every day if I was your mom."
"It's a good thing you're not her then. I'll see you later." Inuyasha said as they neared Sango's classroom.
"...Alright, bye." Sango said as she gave him a lingering look before walking into her class.
Inuyasha sighed as he walked away. He could feel that today was going to be another bad day, he just knew it. Ever since Kagome left, time just dragged on. He walked into his classroom and plopped down in a seat next to Miroku. Miroku looked at his best friend next to him, he felt bad that Inuyasha looked so down cast.
"I think Kagome will come back soon." Miroku voiced his thoughts.
Inuyasha heaved a heavy sigh. "I'm not thinking about Kagome."
'Yes you are.' Miroku thought. "I'm just saying."
"Stop just saying things." Inuyasha said in an annoyed tone. He didn't want to think about Kagome at the moment, he just wanted to go home.
"Inuyasha, you don't have to be-"
Inuyasha put in his head phones and laid his head down. He didn't care if he got in trouble for listening to music during class, he was tired of hearing Miroku talk.
Miroku just eyed his friend as he pulled out his note book to take notes. Inuyasha had been like that after Kagome had left, not wanting to talk about her unless he brought up said subject, which was rarely. Miroku was worried about him, his best friend was in a rut.
He ripped out a piece of paper in his notebook, wrote something, and then gently placed it on Inuyasha's head. Inuyasha rolled his eyes before grabbing the paper and then tossing it on the floor.
"You're no fun." Miroku whispered as he turned back to the teacher.
Inuyasha picked up the piece of paper before snatching Miroku's pencil out of his hand. Miroku watched in interest as Inuyasha spent ten minutes writing before sliding the pencil and paper over to him.
Miroku looked at what Inuyasha had wrote and smiled. It was a horrible picture of a monkey holding up it's middle fingers. A speech bubble that read 'I'm not here to entertain you' was written in front of the monkeys mouth.
Miroku decided to leave Inuyasha alone for the rest of the class time and focus on the teacher. Once the class was over, Miroku and Inuyasha stood.
"You have a good nap?" Miroku asked.
Inuyasha pulled his head phones out his ears. "I wasn't sleeping, I was just sitting there."
"You could've taken notes for the quiz tomorrow."
Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders. "Don't need em'."
They walked out of the classroom. As they headed to the cafeteria for lunch, Inuyasha stopped in his tracks.
"Why'd you stop?" Miroku asked.
"No reason." Inuyasha said as he continued walking.
"Let's go get Sango from her class, before we go to lunch."
Miroku knew all to well why Inuyasha had stopped in the middle of the hallway. They had passed Kagome's locker. He normally either slowly walked by it or just stopped when they passed it on the walk to lunch. Inuyasha was like a love sick puppy dog in Miroku's eyes.
Miroku knew if he was in Inuyasha's position he'd act the same way though. He couldn't imagine seeing Sango one day, and then having her gone the next without a trace. There was no call or text message when Kagome left, she was just gone.
"Alright." Inuyasha replied. "Let's hurry, I'm hungry."
Miroku just nodded his head in response. 'Where is Kagome?' He thought
Kagome walked into the cafeteria with her head down. She had been going to the school for a little over two weeks and she hated it. The school itself was very nice, it was huge and easy to get lost in, and the teachers seemed pleasant. The students seemed nice even though Kagome hadn't bothered interacting with any of them.
She got into the line to pay for bread. Though she thought it was over priced for such a small amount, she was too lazy to pack a lunch the night before.
"Kagome-chan!" Kagome heard her name behind her.
She turned around, not expecting anyone to call her name, let alone know it. She saw a girl she'd never spoken to before wave at her. Kagome hesitantly raised her hand before waving back at her. The girl behind her motioned for her to come to the back.
Kagome sighed as she looked at the line. There were a good ten people separating the girls from each other. If Kagome went to the back, that'd mean she'd have to wait even longer to get food. She wanted to turn back around and act like the girl had never called her name, but that didn't keep her from excusing herself past people.
The girl's smile grew when Kagome was in front of her. "Hello." The girl said happily.
"Hi." Kagome said politely.
"Do you normally buy bread? I never see you in this line." She asked, trying to start a conversation.
Kagome shook her head. "No, I normally bring my own lunch."
"Oh, I see. Well, Kagome-chan, you're new to this school, right?"
"Ummm, yea. You can stop with the formalities, Kagome works just fine." Kagome replied with a light smile.
She didn't know why, but she couldn't stand when people added the -chan or -san to the end of her name.
The girl giggled. "Well, then Kagome, I was wondering if you wanted to eat with my friends and me today. We had been meaning to ask you for a while now."
Kagome thought about it. It's not like she was hanging out with anyone else or had anything better to do. She wanted an excuse to say no though.
"That's such a sweet offer." Kagome started.
"Perfect, then let's eat lunch together." She finished, before ordering the bread she wanted.
Kagome sighed, this wasn't how she wanted to spend her lunch time, then again it was better than eating alone. Once the two had their lunch, they walked to the classroom, Kagome saw two other girls sitting at where the girl she met in the bread line was headed.
"Sit here Kagome." She said as she pulled up a chair.
"Okay." Kagome pulled the chair out a little, before sitting down with the group. Silence passed as the three girls stared at her. 'Is there something on my face?' She thought self consciously.
"So Kagome-chan, you're new to this school. What school did you come from?" One of the girls with a yellow head band asked.
"She just prefers Kagome." The girl that brought her to the table said.
"Yea, Kagome's fine and I came from Midoriko's High School."
"I've heard of that school." Kagome looked at the girl to the right of her. She liked the way her straight her bounced with each small move she made. "There are many cute boys there."
"Eri, don't get started."
'So her names Eri.' Kagome thought. "Um, may I ask your names?"
"Oh, sorry about that. I can't believe we forgot about introductions. My names Ayumi." The girl with curly hair said.
Headband girl pointed to herself. "Eri here."
"And I'm Yuka, pleased to meet ya'." Yuka said with a smile.
"It's very nice to meet all of you." Kagome replied.
"And it's nice to meet you as well. Now, about them Midoriko guys." Eri continued with a southern accent.
Kagome laughed. "What about them, they're nothing special."
It was the truth, while there were plenty of attractive guys at her school, there was just as many unattractive ones, personality and physical wise.
Eri lightly slapped her arm as if they had been friends for years. "Oh come on, there has to be at least one or two good lookin' guys at your school. You can't tell me someone as cute as yourself didn't have a boyfriend at some point in that school."
Kagome felt her heart give itself a tight squeeze and frowned.
"I...did have a boyfriend before I moved here."
"Eri, you said too much." Yuka whispered as she noticed Kagome's reaction.
Kagome shook her head after hearing that. "No it's fine. Because of the whole long distance relationship, it didn't really work out."
That's it right? Because they were separated and she couldn't see him anymore, that made them broken up, right? No one had officially said 'let's break', but how could they work out if she couldn't even contact him.
'I didn't even get a chance to say good bye.' She thought. "Please excuse me." Kagome said as she excused herself to the bathroom.
She didn't want her acquaintances to feel awkward if she randomly broke down crying.
Inuyasha walked out of the bathroom, he had just cleaned glue off of his hands.
"Stupid teacher assigning another stupid assignment with nasty ass glue." He mumbled under his breath.
Though he hated the assignment that they were doing in class, he was glad that the last class of the day was relaxing. He took his sweet time walking in, everyone had already packed up and crowded near the door so he had to push his way through.
It wasn't long before the bell rang and those that crowded near the door were out and on their way home.
He began his usual path to meet up with Sango and Miroku by the school gates.
"Heeeeey." Miroku waved him over.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes as he continued walking to them. 'What's the point of waving me over when he knows I'm headed to him anyway?' Inuyasha questioned.
Sango smiled at him. "It's Friday, and it's the end of the school day, why don't all three of us catch a movie? I heard about this-"
Inuyasha cut her off. "Sorry Sango, I'm kind of busy after school." Inuyasha knew what Sango was trying to do. She was trying to keep him from going to Kagome's house.
"Inuyasha, I know where you're going, and you know where you're going. Why don't you not go for one day? Just one day. You're wearing and tearing yourself down." Sango said honestly.
"Watch me not go this one day, and she comes back. Sango, all of her stuff is still at the house."
"But if she hasn't come back for a month, what makes any other day different from today?" Miroku asked, trying to throw logic at Inuyasha.
"Keh, I bet if it was Sango that was gone, you'd go to her house everyday." Inuyasha snapped back, not liking the fact that they were ganging up on him.
"I'm not saying to stop going, I'm just saying that you should take a break. You spend practically everyday at her house for hours."
"So? I'm perfectly fine. You don't hear me complaining, the only one complaining about what I'm doing is you two."
Inuyasha was getting fed up with them. Why were they giving up on their friendship with Kagome so damn easily?
"We're not complaining, we're just worried about you." Sango jumped in. "You're losing sleep over this when you don't have to."
It was clear to anyone that knew Inuyasha that he was tired. His golden eyes didn't gleam and glisten like they used to, but it's questionable as to if the reason had to do with lack of sleep or Kagome. He was irritable...more irritable than he normally was, and he just didn't look happy anymore.
"Don't worry about me, I'm doing just fine." Inuyasha said gruffly before sighing. "Listen, I gotta' go." He said before walking off of the school grounds.'They just don't understand.'
There was no use talking to a static person. Inuyasha was stubborn as a rock and there was nothing anyone could tell him that would keep him from finding the girl he loved.
Kagome looked at the school behind her. It was nothing like her old school. She felt like she had walked into an unknown world and there was no going back to the place she called home.
"Kagome!" Kagome heard behind her.
'So close to going home.' Kagome sighed as she turned around with a smile. "Ne?"
The three girls she had eaten lunch with walked up to her. "We were wondering." They said at the same time before giggling together.
Kagome watched them with fascination. They were like real high school girls from TV. They seemed to be very close and happy with each others friendship; almost like how she was with her friends.
"Would you like to eat at WacDonalds with us? We normally go a couple times a week after school and since it's Friday we thought it'd be a fun way to welcome the weekend." Eri said with a smile.
"I would love to go." Kagome replied honestly. "But I'm kind of grounded."
"Ohhh." The girls nodded their heads in understanding.
"I just got done being grounded, I feel your pain." Yuka said with an understanding tone.
"When I'm done being grounded I'd love to go out with you guys though." Kagome smiled.
"We'll ask again next week lunch buddy, see ya' later."
They all parted ways, leaving Kagome to walk to the train station alone. As she thought about her new friends, she found her smile growing on her face.
'It feels good to finally make friends after a month here.' She thought.
It had been a long and tough month for her. Making friends made her feel like she was truly moving on from everything that happened in Tokyo. Everything with Kouga and the drink situation. The problem was that she wanted to forget everything having to do with Tokyo, but when she thought about what she would truly be forgetting, she began to question what she really wanted.
She frowned as she waited for her train at the train station. "Inuyasha." His name had found it's way to her lips.
Normally his name would make her smile, but it only pained her now.
What is he doing?
Is he thinking about me?
Does he miss me?
Where are you?
Kagome always questioned what he was doing, it seemed like the only thing she really thought about in her spare time. She missed him so much, it honestly hurt. She'd get headaches just thinking about it.
The train came to a tight screech in front of her, a wind gently blew her hair to the side. She boarded onto the filled train compact with random people of all variates. The doors slid closed as she took her seat next to a tired elderly woman.
The elderly woman shifted her arm, causing a book on her lap to shift and fall. Before the old woman had time to bend down and pick up her book, Kagome bent down to get it for her.
"Thank you." The woman said.
Kagome nodded her head as she grasped the book. "You're welcome." She ran her hand over the books beautiful blue title. 'Beautiful Stranger'.
"Shit." Inuyasha cussed as a book had fallen out of his open book bag. He had been digging in his bag for a pencil when the book tipped and fell too the floor. He picked the book up. "Beautiful Stranger, huh?"
Miroku had been begging him to read the book. Apparently, it was a good read and would keep Inuyasha busy, but Inuyasha didn't even like reading school assigned books, let alone reading for fun.
"That idiot, he must've stuck the book in here sometime today." Inuyasha said as he stuffed it in his bag. 'Just because he puts it in my stuff, doesn't mean I'm going to read it."
He had been at Kagome's house for a couple of hours just waiting, waiting for her to come with a smile on her face saying she's sorry for leaving and that she'll never do something so stupid again. He wasn't stupid, he knew there was a possibility that she'd never come back, and that was fine with him, completely fine. If she wouldn't come back, he'd just go find her.
"Where are you, Kagome?" He asked.
He remembered the day he had discovered she was gone.
*Flashback*
Inuyasha reluctantly went back to his house that morning. Kagome had made it home safe and sound. Now it was just a matter of seeing what her mother would say after she told her everything about Kouga.
"Stupid mother fuc-" Inuyasha was about to let out a string of cuss words as he thought about Kouga.
"Inuyasha, is that you?"
He sighed when he heard his moms gentle voice from the living room. "Yea." He kicked off his shoes and plopped down next to his mother.
"That was Kagome in the kitchen eating with you right?" His mother asked. She had peeked into the kitchen earlier that morning and had caught him holding a light conversation with a young woman. Inuyasha normally had Miroku over in the morning, so she was fairly surprised when she nearly walked in on the two of them.
"Yea." He replied. 'I wonder how the conversation is going.'
His mother nodded her head, her long black hair bouncing with her. "I see, it's amazing that you guys have been such great friends for all these years-"
"Mhhmm." Inuyasha said. "It is, she-"
His mother cut him off, just like he had unintentionally done to her. "I wasn't done. I was going to say, it's amazing how you guys have been friends with each other for such a long time AND YET."
"And yet?" Inuyasha asked with a raised eye brow.
"And yet, I have yet to properly meet the young lady that has captured your heart. She's been over plenty of times, but I haven't seen her because of work or because you guys are doing something else. It's almost like you're trying to keep her away from me, I don't bite, I swear."
Inuyasha laughed. "I'll bring her by properly one day."
"You should, I've only seen pictures and the back of her profile this morning, but she looks very beautiful." His mother gave off a happy sigh. "She would look absolutely stunning in a kimono though, a nice peachy one with a soft pattern, and even a pair of getas to match." His mother said dreamily.
'The joys of having a mother that makes kimonos.' He thought. "I'll keep that in mind." He said as he stood up. He could tell his mother was about to go into detail about every stitch and sow of the design she could see on Kagome.
"Try to introduce her to me in a kimono." She stood up as well.
"If she'll wear one, I will."
"Wonderful, I'm excited now." She said happily. I hope to see her soon. I'll be back, I'm going to pick up some fabric designs."
"Bye." He said as he tiredly walked up the stairs. He hadn't realized how tired he was until his body hit the bed. He had stayed up all night looking over Kagome, only sleeping for a couple of hours when she said she was okay.
Inuyasha laid in bed for a good hour. He was on the brink of falling asleep, but he couldn't shake the nerves he felt. He had to keep telling himself that Kagome was safe, that she wasn't in harms way, so it was okay to sleep. No matter how many times he said it, he just couldn't sleep.
Inuyasha nearly dialed Kagome's phone number to call and make sure that everything was okay, but decided against it when he thought about how her mom was probably still talking to her.
"The quicker I sleep, the quicker I can wake up and speak to Kagome." He said tiredly, even though he knew that it didn't matter what time he fell asleep, it wouldn't effect when Kagome would have the time to talk.
Eventually he drifted off into a non too peaceful slumber.
Inuyasha woke up around four in the afternoon. 'Damn, I must've been tired.' He didn't realize he could sleep for such a long time.
He stretched, his back giving off a nice crack as he arched it. Inuyasha walked down stairs, towards the kitchen, ready to get something in his empty stomach. When he walked into the kitchen, he nearly bumped into Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru glared at him. "Watch where you're walking."
"You're the one that nearly bumped into me." He looked at all of the items in Sesshomaru's hands. "Why do you have all of that food in your hand?"
He had all sorts of food, ranging from cereal, to carrots, to noodles.
He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "No reason."
"Okay..." He said as he continued walking into the kitchen.
"You shouldn't eat anything, you're getting fat."
Inuyasha mumbled cuss words under his breath. Sesshomaru couldn't hold a decent or remotely nice conversation to save his life.
"Don't you have a tarantula to feed?" Inuyasha asked, remembering the horrid creature his brother kept around the house.
"Don't you have a girl to hide in your room?" Sesshomaru replied back easily.
Inuyasha walked out of the kitchen and stared hard at Sesshomaru. "You know?" He asked referring to Kagome spending the night. While it was a known fact that Kagome had been eating with him that morning, he was sure that no one knew she spent the night.
"I know." He said with a curt nod.
"Don't tell mom." Inuyasha couldn't imagine what his mom would say if she found out Kagome spent the night. He couldn't handle his mom bombarding him with questions and then asking about grandchildren.
"Don't piss me off." Sesshomaru said before walking up the stairs.
"Easy." He said as he walked back into the kitchen. "If I don't piss him off, he won't tell." He sighed.
He'd have to avoid Sesshomaru for as long as he was in the house, Sesshomaru was so easy to piss off. Inuyasha grabbed a bag of chips and a water bottle before walking to his room.
'Alright, time to call Kagome.' As he dialed in her number, his phone began to vibrate in his hand. He was receiving a call. He pressed the answer button and held the phone to his ear.
"Hello?" He asked.
"Hey, what happened when you left?"
It was Miroku calling to check in. "I just took Kagome to my place and explained what happened. Earlier this morning, I dropped her off at her place and her and her mom started talking; her mom was pissed." He remembered the intense expression on Kagome's mom's face. "I was just about to call her."
"Can you call her now?" Miroku asked. "When I told Sango about what happened she started freaking out. She said she tried to call Kagome about a hundred times, but she didn't pick up."
'I forgot Sango didn't know about anything.' Inuyasha took the phone from his ear and completed the number he had began dialing before connecting the calls. It went straight to voice mail. "Her phone probably died or something. She most likely didn't charge it when she got home."
"Alright, just keep me updated."
"Will do."
They held a small conversation before hanging up on each other. Inuyasha was tempted to run to Kagome's house and check on her, but he knew she was already in a shit load of trouble, who's to say he wouldn't make it worse? It probably looked bad enough when Kagome didn't come home until earlier that morning with him, plus the fact that she returned wearing his clothes instead of what she had originally worn before.
It wasn't until two days after when Kagome hadn't been answering her phone, and didn't show up to school that he decided to go to her house and see what was going on. He contemplated ringing her door bell, but decided going to her window would be faster.
He jumped onto the tree and balanced himself before leaning over and peering into her room. The sunlight made it easy to see everything in there. The palms of his hands pressed against the glass. He breathed a sigh as he jumped down.
"Maybe they aren't home."
He was going to walk away, but turned back towards the house. Something was telling him that wasn't the case, that he needed to stay and look again. He pressed his sharp claw against the doorbell, a loud ring echoed through out the house.
He quickly went back to Kagome's window. He pressed his face close to the window, looking much harder than before. Upon closer inspection, he saw something that stood out of place in his girlfriends room.
There was a nice looking piece of paper folded and sitting up right in the center of her floor. He jumped down from the tree branch he was perched on and walked to the tree in her front yard. He dug his claws in the hole and searched for the key Kagome kept in it.
"It's really not safe to leave the key there." Inuyasha said as he unlocked the door. "Sorry for the intrusion." He stepped in and began walking to her room.
Once he was in her room he breathed in the light smell of her. She always smelled like soft vanilla, one of his favorite scents.
Inuyasha stooped down and picked up the note before flipping it open.
Thanks for everything
Bye!
-Kagome
It read in her neat cursive. He read it many times, but he couldn't tell what it meant. He took the note with him as he locked the door behind him and left. After that, he started coming every day, to wait for her.
*End of Flashback*
When he got home he tossed his book bag on the floor and went straight to his room. The note Kagome had left was sitting neatly on his dresser. He picked it up before angrily crumbling it up and throwing it across the room.
"Why wasn't it 'see you later'? Why did you write 'bye'?" Inuyasha questioned.
He thought back to all the arguments they had had before all of this. The arguments they had over Kouga, not coming to the dinner with her mother, and even the time he wouldn't even say he loved her on camera. He started remembering all of the bad things in their relationship that he had done or even said to her.
"I would say I love her a thousand times if she were here."
Kagome picked up the crumbled piece of paper on the floor of her kitchen. She couldn't understand why her mother always left crumbled pieces of paper on the floor when she knew the apartment they were staying at cluttered and dirtied easily.
She uncrumbled it and rolled her eyes. It was just a list of numbers that meant nothing to Kagome. She tossed the paper in the trash and then went back to working on what she had originally been working on. She finished making a bowl of noodles and sat on the tiny couch in the living room.
Her mother would be home from work at anytime. Kagome never knew when her mother would come home because her mother refused to tell her. Her mother never told her anything anymore. If she wasn't home right after school, when her mother could potentially be home, she would be in a lot of trouble.
The month that they had spent in her mother's friends apartment was horrible for Kagome. This wasn't the home she had lived in, the place she loved. She hated it there. Not only was the place unfamiliar, but she had seen five roaches crawling around and it disgusted her to no end.
"She thinks I'm stupid, huh?" Kagome asked out loud as she slurped up noodles. "I'm not."
This apartment was only a ten minutes walk from her mother's little boyfriend's house, which her mother still doesn't know she knows about. It was quite clear to Kagome that her mother really liked the man she was dating.
"She moves closer to her love and pulls me away from mine." Kagome thought angrily.
She aggressively finished off the rest of her noodles before slamming the bowl on the table and going to her room. She was tired, so tired of everything.
She laid on her bed and curled up on the sheets. Her thoughts drifted to Inuyasha.
His jacket laid on the chair in front of her.
"You said everything would be okay, right?" Kagome turned her back to the coat. "I trusted you, and you said everything would turn out okay. So why isn't everything okay? Why aren't you in my arms right now?" She asked sadly as tears pooled in her eyes.
She didn't want to cry, but she missed him. She missed him so much.
"I shouldn't cry." She told herself. "This is just another day without you."
