Ahhh it's finally here! The Bloodbath! Before we start, I'd just like to say that all of the Tributes that were entered are amazing, but it is the Hunger Games and all but one of them have to die. Oh, and I'll announce the winners of the fan favourite at the end of the chapter. Enjoy!
Celeste Starling's POV:
"Tributes, enter your tubes. The Games will begin in twenty seconds."
Celeste's heart began to race in her little chest as she heard the robotic voice. She quickly hugged her stylist, who was in floods of tears, and stepped into the tube. The door closed behind her and the metal plate she was standing on began to rise. As Celeste rose to her possible death, she wondered what the Arena would be like. She was dressed in a pair of dark green, camouflage trousers, a black t-shirt and a black rain coat. She had a small purple device fastened around her waist. She thought she recognised it from a previous games that she'd seen on TV, but she forgot what it was for. No matter what Arena Celeste would be flung into, she was at an automatic disadvantage because of her build and height.
Celeste was temporarily blinded as she burst into the daylight of the arena. Celeste stared in awe around her as she took in the sight around her. Celeste was standing on a rock pillar with a dodgy-looking bridge leading onto a larger pillar that contained the Cornucopia. Below Celeste, there was a dark red pit of lava. Every Tribute stood on a pillar similar to Celeste's. She tried to look for Crew but she couldn't find him, the Cornucopia must have been blocking him. They'd made a deal the night before that he'd abandon the Careers and come with her and Angel instead. The boy from 9 stood on a pillar to Celeste's left and Angel stood on a pillar to her right.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen to the 100th annual Hunger Games! The clock will count down from sixty and when the gong sounds, you may leave your pillar. But if you leave your pillar before the gong, let's just say you'll be taking a nice hot...bath. Haha!"
Celeste huffed with disgust as Claudius Templesmith's voice came booming from somewhere. How could he make a joke at a time like this? Celeste mentally prepared herself for what was about to go down.
Angel Jask's POV:
Angel found the Arena interesting, but scary. She needed Celeste to be with her and comfort her. So that's why Angel was glad that Celeste and Crew had decided to join her. Now she might actually stand a chance of getting home.
Sixty.
Angel thought about home.
Fifty.
Angel thought about all of her friends in the factories.
Forty.
Angel thought of her little sister, and how she'd have no-one to look after her.
Thirty.
Angel thought about her fellow Tributes and what she'd have to do to get home.
Twenty.
Angel thought about all of the people in the Capitol who had showed her kindness.
Ten.
And for the first time in her life, Angel thought about herself. What she'd have to do to get home and the people she'd have to kill to get there. Angel was no killer and she wouldn't let the Capitol change who she was. So as the gong sounded, Angel flung herself off of the edge of her pillar and fell into the red-hot lava below.
Crew Odair's POV:
Crew sprinted across his bridge and was the second to arrive at the Cornucopia, next to Tiberius. He grabbed a trident and a backpack. He grabbed a few daggers for Celeste and another backpack. When he exited the Cornucopia, he spotted Sparkle aiming a spear at Celeste who stood frozen to the spot on her pillar. Without thinking, Crew launched his trident at Sparkle, but she ducked and it sailed through the air right into Trim's chest. Trim fell to the ground with a thud and Crew grabbed another trident.
Sparkle knelt by Trim's body, crying. Tiberius ran over and pulled her up, talking some sense into her. She turned red and turned towards Crew. Sparkle stood up and began to ran in Crew's direction, but she was tackled to the ground by the small girl from District 9, Serenity. Crew wasted no time and ran across Celeste's bridge. He handed her two daggers and a backpack and grabbed her hand. He pulled her across the bridge and Crew searched for a way down the conical-shaped mountain. He couldn't see one, so he picked Celeste up in his arms and slid down the side of the mountain.
As Crew made his way down the mountain, he looked around him and noticed that they were on a huge island. There were about seven other smaller islands scattered throughout the water from what Crew could see. The only way to get to an island would be to swim. Lucky that Crew and Celeste knew how to swim. When they finally reached the bottom, Crew sprinted over to the water and put Celeste down. She was as pale as a ghost and she was shivering wildly.
"What's wrong?" Crew asked quickly.
"Angel...Angel jumped off her pillar.." Celeste replied between sobs.
Crew pulled Celeste in for a hug and she wrapped her skinny arms around him. Crew's eyes widened as he noticed a deep gash in Celeste's forearm.
"What happened?" Crew shouted, concerned.
"Sparkle threw a spear a few seconds before you noticed her and she got my arm." Celeste replied, wincing.
Crew heard screams coming from the top of the mountains.
"Look, if we can swim to that island over there," Crew explained, pointing to a nearby island, "then we'll be safe, okay?"
Celeste nodded and Crew ripped off the right sleeve of his t-shirt and tied it tightly around Celeste's arm. With that, they both dived in and began swimming.
Rose Leslie's POV:
"Come on, you idiot!" Rose hissed at Niko as they slid slowly down the mountain.
"I'm coming, don't get angry." Niko replied.
Rose sighed and continued down the mountain. Rose had managed to grab a few supplies while the Careers were distracted. She got a knife, which she held in her hands, a small backpack and a loaf of bread. In the back pack there was another knife, an empty water bottle and some matches. Rose gave Niko the other knife and the backpack to hold. Rose used her t-shirt to wipe the blood from her blade. Ten minutes into the Games and she'd already killed someone, the small boy from District 7. Rose was filled with happiness as she watched the boys eyes fill with fear and pain.
"Where are we going?" Niko asked, panting.
"I don't know!" Rose shouted back.
Rose sighed. If she was going to pull off being in love with Niko, then she'd have to be a bit nicer.
"I'm sorry, why don't we set up camp underneath one of these tress at the edge of the water? That way, we can escape if we see someone." Rose said nicely, rubbing Niko's arm.
Niko smiled and nodded as they ran towards the tree. Fifteen minutes later, they'd set up camp and they waited for the cannons to indicate how many had died in the bloodbath. After a few minutes, the cannons began to sound and Rose counted them. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Only five! How unimpressive.
Phoenix Stark's POV:
Phoenix rose quietly out of the water and crawled behind a tree. She had followed Crew and Celeste here and she was going to get her revenge on both of them. She was going to wait till night-time and slit their necks in their sleep. But Phoenix had a better idea. She took out her bow and a quiver of arrows. And she ran into the clearing where Celeste and Crew sat.
"Woah, don't fire." Phoenix shouted as Crew raised his trident.
Crew reluctantly lowered his trident and beckoned for Celeste to stand behind him.
"What do you want, Phoenix?" Crew spat.
"Look, the Careers are after both of us and I just think that we'll both stand a better chance of surviving if we stick together." Phoenix explained calmly.
"She's lying! She told me that we were her first targets!" Celeste squealed.
Phoenix, Crew and Celeste all heard a rustling from the bushes and the two District Nine Tributes ran into the clearing, both holding small daggers. They both wore a look of horror on their faces and the fact that they'd just run into two Careers didn't make them look any less horrified.
"Look, I'll prove that I'm telling the truth." Phoenix said, raising her bow and aiming at the girl from Nine.
"No!" Celeste screamed, running towards Phoenix.
Phoenix quickly aimed at Celeste and shot. Despite Phoenix's usually perfect aim, she only managed to get Celeste in the shoulder. Crew threw his trident and it lodged itself into the side of Phoenix's left leg. Phoenix cried out in pain and Crew ran forward, grabbed his trident and Celeste and ran.
"Come with us." Phoenix heard Crew say and she heard four pairs of feet running away from the clearing.
Phoenix dragged herself over to the base of a tree and she sat there for what felt like hours. Suddenly, the anthem began to play and faces began to appear in the sky. Phoenix was shocked to see Trim's face in the sky. He was then followed by the District 7 male, the District 8 male, the District 8 female and the District 12 male. Then the sky went black and Phoenix closed her eyes.
Deaths:
Trim Shimmer, District One
Asher Sutton, District Seven
Leo Darrik, District Eight
Angel Jask, District Eight
