Chapter 21
Seven years later
Here it is ! The epilogue and the very last chapter. Enjoy it! Thanks to everyone who reviewed and read this story, and also to my Beta Lizzabet for her help.
At the border of a lake, a pretty little girl with dark hair was playing under the watch of her father while her mom was resting. They were expecting their second child, it would be another girl and now that she had reached the eighth month, she was often getting tired. It was a beautiful day and the man, Kyle Reynolds previously Spencer Reid, was feeling well.
It had been seven years since the group of killers had left USA for Canada, where they got new identity papers, and finally settled here. They had been very careful during the first times, and even today they were still careful not to have their secret revealed. Spencer and Emily Reid, now Kyle and Lauren Reynolds, were living in a pretty little house near a lake, not far from their friends, Mary-Jane and William Barrow, known some years ago under the names of Penelope Garcia and Derek Morgan.
Now the whole group was well installed in Canada, Emily had opened her own clothes' store which had known a good success, Spencer was working as a doctor but not in a hospital anymore, he had his own office, as for Penelope and Derek, they opened a restaurant which was also successful.
They had stopped killing definitely, it had been truly hard, Derek and Penelope had killed a few people, but soon realised that even if they used different weapons it could endanger them and their friends. It was truly hard sometimes, to stop killing for good, one of Emily and Spencer's favourite topic of discussion was the murders they committed together, they liked to talk about it with Derek and Penelope, always careful not to be heard by anyone. The 'Barrow' got a son named Jonathan, who was sometimes playing with Miriam and the parents were delighted to see their children were good friends.
They had decided to raise their kids normally, in order to avoid suspicions, to tell those fairytales, make them watch Disney and Scooby-doo, taught them the usual morals parents would teach their kids. It was working, Jonathan and Miriam were acting like any other kids, though they were smarter than most of them, something which delighted Spencer especially.
True it was a little hard for them, they would have loved to teach their kids how to kill, how to hide from the police for years, what kind of mistakes they shouldn't make…They could have made glorious killers out of them, and Emily was often saying that in contrary to them, Miriam and Jonathan would never get caught. Spencer agreed, their kids could have known this glorious past, but since neither Miriam nor Jonathan was showing any signs that killing could interest them, they would grow up as normal children. Maybe it was better this way, after all, they would never get any problems with Justice. They would do exactly the same with their next daughter, who Emily decided they would call Sybil.
Though they had stopped killing and living normally, they had kept tabs about the BAU for some times, thanks to Garcia's hacking knowledge. That's how they learned that the Agent Gideon finally left the FBI, for some unknown reasons, and was now living somewhere in Montana and was a teacher.
Aaron Hotchner lost his wife because of a murderer who he killed after that, managing to save his son. He was still an agent working as the BAU chief, he hadn't remarried.
Agent Jareau got a kid named Henry and a depression which made her leave the FBI. She divorced after, got to keep her child and became a social service worker, a job in which she apparently excelled.
Agent David Rossi got married with his superior Erin Strauss, and wrote some other books but none about the case that concerned the Reapers. Maybe he didn't want to say anything about what Jordan went through. He was still a profiler but became a liaison agent to replace JJ.
Agent Alex Blake was still married but she wasn't an agent anymore she had retired and was now a teacher both in linguistic and profiling.
Kevin Lynch almost got killed by a murderer, got a promotion and went through marriage before getting divorced. He was not working in the same team anymore now though he was still in the FBI.
More importantly, they learned what happened to Jordan Todd. She got into a big depression and took Dilaudids after her kidnapping, which almost got her fired of the FBI. She went through rehab and didn't leave the BAU. She got married two years later to her shrink. She was now divorced with a baby girl named Sarah. Emily would have loved to pay them a visit if only it was possible, but no. She knew she would have to keep away from her previous doll, or else they could get caught.
To tell the truth, it was quite sad that they weren't able to break her completely, apparently she had overcome what happened to her well enough to have a child, to continue her career. In a way she won. Yet Spencer was sure that she was still thinking about it and that a part of her would still be in the doll's room until her death.
The group knew that FBI was still trying to catch them, but as time passed, the hope to find them was thinner and thinner. They had gathered enough money to leave the country if needed anyway, they could perfectly go live somewhere else, at the other side of the earth, were it would be harder for them to search. They thought about Russia, Spencer had learned their language just in case, Penelope and Derek were doing the same and though they had some difficulty, they were doing well. They weren't about to give themselves to police.
Still looking at his daughter, Spencer saw her crouching to the ground, looking at something with curiosity, her dad wondered what she was doing. She was holding something in her hands but what? Approaching her, he saw it was a bird and it was obviously wounded. Miriam's attention was all focused on it, so much she hadn't noticed her father approaching. He put a hand on her and she looked at him with a distressed look.
"Dad, we need to help him."
"Alright, I'll show you how to take care of him."
He kept that promise and Emily helped also. One morning when the bird showed that it was well, Miriam took him in her tiny hands, went to the border of the wood and threw it in the air to make him fly away. She watched him in delight while Spencer and Emily were looking at her, Spencer was feeling sad but Emily was smiling softly.
"Children don't necessarily have to take their parent's path. I'll always be proud of her."
"I wish we could have shared that with her."
"So do I, but I'm glad she is independent enough to make her own way. We did so after all."
He nodded and squeezed her hand. Everything was over and they would accept it. The FBI had failed to catch them but their glory was over and their children wouldn't be like them. No one had really won.
Though I must admit I am not really satisfied with everything I did in the story, I like this epilogue a lot! I think that after this, I will give a sequel to my other fic Fresh Blood or write another story picturing one or several team members as killers, while finishing Tale of Tales. Thanks again to everyone who read and reviewed!
