CHAPTER 21: Ken's explanation
"Buckle up, bees, you'll get to see your son soon..." Ken said, referring to later on when he goes to the park with the jar, expecting to meet up with Barry.
"WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!" Barry's parents asked, as their jar was still flat on the couch after Ken tossed it there.
They still had to yell because they felt like their voices couldn't be heard. The heat of being in the jar was slowly starting to hit on them, too, and Ken hasn't produced any breathing holes in the lid of the jar, so time was of the essence to escape.
"What I mean is-" Ken said, before being interrupted by his phone ringing on the wooden table.
"Ah, hold on bees, maybe you can have a guess between your allergic-bringing selves whilst I attend to this matter..." Ken said, standing up from the couch to walk over towards his phone.
The phone's calling image had 'Andy' on it, and this surprised Ken; why is Andy calling him when the guy was literally just here a moment ago? Nonetheless, Ken picked up the call.
"Andy, what-"
"Ken, just shut up...I can't do it anymore...I'm out of here, okay? I'm out, I'm out...I'm out..."
"What're you talking about?" Ken asked.
"You know exactly what I'm on about. I never should've joined you on your little bee murdering mission...I'm packing my things and moving away from here so I can escape the disturbance of what I've done...me and the wife are moving as soon as possible..."
"Oh come on Andy, you need to just grow up, when did you become such a pansy?" Ken asked, chuckling.
"IT'S NOT FUNNY, KEN, I SAW THAT BARRY BEE BEFORE, AND HE WASN'T HAPPY...HE...IT WAS HEARTBREAKING...AND I WAS SCARED, KEN, I WAS SCARED...I FELT LIKE A CRIMINAL, AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU..."
"All because of me?! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! WHY ARE YOU SCARED OF A TINY INSECT OF ALL THINGS?!" Ken said, increasing his voice volume.
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MENTALLY DISTURBED I FEEL...I NEVER WANT TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN, YOU HEAR ME? I'M CALLING YOU NOW SO YOU GET THE MEMO...UNTIL THINGS CALM DOWN AND GO BACK TO NORMAL, YOU WON'T BE SEEING ME AGAIN...BYE..." Andy exclaimed, ending the call.
Ken confusingly took the phone off his ear, before chuckling.
"Oh well...guy was a phoney when it came down to the shop.,.." he said.
Barry's parents were slightly starting to struggle for breathing air, as the isolation from the outside world in the jar was starting to take its toll. Ken walked back over to the couch that the jar was flat on, before sitting back down, making the jar bounce up a bit.
"I just hope your son has a bit of a compromise..." Ken said.
"YOU WON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS!" Barry's parents yelled.
"Of course I will...I know that Barry won't follow through with his promise, so you can claim that I won't get away with this...when in fact, you won't be getting away from the jar...you're my weapon, and I can do whatever the heck I want with Barry's mind..."
"NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT?!"
"I just said it, and I'm gonna do it, and there's NOTHIN' you can do about it...it's like I've always said, isn't it? And your son clearly hasn't understood me; he never got the message when I tried killing him at Vanessa's place at the toilet room; if he hadn't ruined my life and took my girlfriend away, none of this would've happened...that bee is NOT GONNA GET AWAY WITH STEALING MY LIFE ANY LONGER!" Ken exclaimed, just looking down at the jar with Barry's parents in it.
Barry's mum and dad gulped; their biggest fear about this Ken guy came true; he's never actually intended on letting them go, but instead, he's only using them as a bargaining chip to manipulate Barry. And as for that 'meeting' at the park? It's actually going to involve Ken finishing what he started back at Vanessa's place when Barry was dining with her; killing Barry, once and for all, and then, destroying the hive. He lied to Andy, clearly, when he said it was just going to be a meeting between himself and the bee.
"ON THE POSITIVE SIDE, YOU'LL AT LEAST GET TO SEE YOUR SON...EVEN IF ITS JUST FOR A LITTLE BIT, HUH?!" Ken passionately exclaimed, getting up off the couch to walk away to the kitchen.
Barry's parents looked at each other in complete shock; what did they ever do wrong to get to this fate of inevitable death? They simply went out of the hive that night to look for Barry, and this is the result of doing that. They just wanted to be safe and sound, back in the hive, in a secure environment, with their son again; they couldn't bare the thought of dying in this jar due to the lack of oxygen.
"Oh how I do miss Barry...I just don't wanna die..."
"I know...I don't either...but what can we do? This Ken guy he-..." Barry's dad had a crack in his voice from the emotional thoughts, "he's not gonna let us go...Barry's gonna meet up with him...I know Barry, though, he's too smart to fall for this...we have hope...and you know what? even though we're in this mess, we can have hope in our son for bringing us back home...after all, he became the most well-known bee in the hive for bringing peace with the humans..."
Barry's mum agreed with that statement wholeheartedly. The two bees started embracing each other as they sat down in the jar, as the heat was soaring up inside. What else could they do to escape? They couldn't fly out obviously, and that lid isn't getting opened any time soon.
But they had one single hope for their freedom; Barry, when he meets Ken tonight. They were counting on their son to use his intelligence and adapting skills to save the day.
Simply put, time was running out for Barry's parents, and with Ken being stubborn and very cold, time was on an even tighter schedule.
