When you're on your own and you feel lost
When your heart's a mess though you've given your best.
I'll be here giving it my best shot, baby, your love's got more than I need.
(…)
Nothing can stop us if we believe.
Here giving it my best shot, baby, I find that we can be free.
When you're here, here with me.
When your sky is dark and the earth is shaking your bed.
Your hope is at its end, you just need one friend.
Best Shot by Birdy and James Young
She had been eating the food James had gotten her slowly while James talked about anything that came to his mind to keep her distracted.
"Do you want to come here tomorrow, we can do anything you want." He said. "Or maybe we could go for a walk, let's just do something tomorrow."
Lily, with much effort, ate a little bit more of food. "You're just doing that to see if I eat tomorrow."
"That's so unfair. It is one of the reasons, yeah. But it's not the only one. And is that so bad that I wanna make sure you're getting better?" He asked frowning.
"I'm sorry, that was unfair. I just... I don't you to treat me any differently because of this." She said.
"I will always be making sure you're doing better, but other than that it'll be the same." Lily smiled a little and ate more. "I think you should get therapy. Maybe if we talk to Dumbledore I think he'll get you a therapist."
"I don't need therapy, I'm not crazy." She said defensibly.
"I know that!" He argued. "I'm just saying, you're not okay and you need to be fixed. When you're sick you go to the doctor, right? Why is this any different?" She took a deep breath.
"Fine, we'll talk to Dumbledore." She said. "How embarrassing." She whispered and shook her head.
"Lily This is not something to be embarrassed of." James stated. "Do you hear me?" She didn't say anything. "I'm not saying you should be proud of it, it's not a good thing, but you sure as shit shouldn't be ashamed of it." He said. "Okay?" James asked.
"Yeah." She nodded and ate some more. "We'll send a letter to Dumbledore tomorrow." He smiled a little and they were silent while Lily ate some more. "I'm sorry for ruining your Christmas."
"Lily don't even say that. You didn't ruin my Christmas. It was a great Christmas. Of course it breaks my heart to see you like this but it was a good Christmas. And it'll be even better next year when we can also celebrate the fact that today was the day that you started to get better."
"You're the best thing that ever happen to me." She said.
"Despite the fact that you keep thinking that you're ruining my Christmas, and that you're not good enough- wish is completely absurd- you are also the best thing that happened to me. But don't tell Sirius I said that, I don't think he'll be happy to hear he's number two." He joked and Lily smiled but once again thought that James was blinded by love. "What are you thinking?" He asked.
"What do you mean?" Asked Lily.
"I mean that I know that loo and that it means that you are thinking something that you don't want to say." He said.
"It's nothing." She said, but James didn't budge and waited for her to say it."I just think that maybe you're biased because you love me."
"Of course I'm biased because I love you. That doesn't mean you're not the best thing that happened to me and that you're any less fantastic than how I see you." He said and continued seeing that she wasn't convinced. "You think I'm great, right?" She nodded. "Do you think that maybe I'm not as good as you think I am, and that it's just you seeing me differently?" He asked.
"Well, no. But that is different. Everyone loves you, everyone sees you the way I see you. I just like it more, I guess." She argued.
"That's the exact same thing that happens with me. I know you and don't ever insult me by saying that I don't. I know you! Maybe once I thought that you were perfect, when I had a crush on you, not too long ago really this summer. But now I know that you are not perfect and it makes me love you even more. I know your flaws and I love them or I'll help fix them. This is self-hate that you have is a flaw, and I love you anyway, and I won't say that I love it but I will say that I'll help you get rid of it." He said. "I love you, and I see you the way everyone else does. I just love you more than the rest of people. But everyone else who knows you, loves you too. Do you get that?"
"It's not like that." She muttered. "Maybe, maybe, you can say that about the Slytherins but what about my sister?"
"She's jealous of you. But she loves you. I'd give my right hand on how she'd come for you if you needed help. She's jealous and that blinds her. But she'd miss you if you were gone. She'd regret every word she'd ever said to you if you were no longer with her. She loves you, she just doesn't do it properly." He said and lily took the last bite of what was rest of her food. "Come on." he said getting up.
"Where to? I have to go home." She said but took his hand.
"You're sleeping with me tonight." James smiled and winked at her, wish got a smile on her face which grew when he wrapped an arm around her waist
"Don't get me wrong, I wish I could, I really do. I miss so much. But what about my parents I think they'd notice if I wasn't there in the morning and what about your parents?"
"Flower, you are sleeping with me tonight. I'll put the alarm clock for 6 in the morning if I have to, but you are sleeping with me tonight." She was about to argue that she probably wouldn't wake up, and that it made no sense that he'd wake up at 6am just because of her, instead she smiled and kissed him before walking back to his room with him. "Can you get me something to sleep in?" She asked. "One of your sweaters would serve me as a night-gown." She chuckled knowing he was much taller than her.
James let her use the bathroom of his room while he went to the other one across the hall, so when he got to his room again she was folding her clothes neatly wearing only his Quidditch Jersey and he thought how amazing it would be in a couple of years to have a house of their own and he'd see this and they'd be together at night not because their rooms were close and it was a temptation they couldn't resist but because they were living in the same house because after thinking about it they just concluded that they couldn't be apart for long and that the night they spent together were too precious. "You sexy little minx." He said with a smirk and waked across the room to hug and kiss her. "Although I preferred it when you weren't this skinny, and I swear to Merlin and Dumbledore and whoever more I'm not just saying this so you stop dieting. You could give me truth serum and I'd say the same thing." Lily stood on tip toes and kissed him back.
"Don't worry. I'll get better. I'll gain some weight if that's what you want." She said softly.
"Don't do it for me, Lils. Because I'll love you anyway, I just want you healthy. You have to do it for yourself." He said and they laid in bed. "Think about your future and how that is something worth getting better for, and it's way better than being skinny or whatever. I want you to promise me something, actually two things." He corrected himself
"Okay." She said, she wouldn't accept it with anyone else, but she trusted him above all.
"One, promise me that every night you'll think about something of yourself that you love or something amazing that you did today and if you can't think of anything you'll just talk to me and I'll help you remembering. And two, that when you're feeling bad think about your future, our future, because that is worth any trouble that we have now. Promise?" She nodded.
"I promise you." She said and rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes. "I promise that I'll try to think of qualities that I have and I'll promise you that when I'm not okay I will think about how in a few years we'll come home to each other after a tiring day, or maybe a great day, but still we'll always want to be back home with each other. And we'll dance whenever we feel like it, maybe slow and romantic or maybe crazy and fun, until maybe of our kids come because he or she or them want to dance to and it'll be the only time we don't really mind that someone interrupted our dances." She said and James was smiling so brightly he could have lit up the whole world when she was done.
"I couldn't have said it better." He smiled. "Come on, we need to sleep." He said and carried her to bed while she laughed. "I love you." He said when they were both lying on the bed and he kissed.
"I love you too." She answered. "And I'll get better for myself but also for us." She said and he smiled and kissed the top of her head. "James, how come you always know what to say? I mean, when I'm having a breakdown or panicking or sad or whatever, like downstairs, you always know what to say to calm me down, to make me fell better?" She asked quietly.
"I don't know." He said after a while. "I just... I think it's survival instinct." He said and proceeded to explain himself. "I can't stand seeing you feeling bad. And I can't live without you," He stated knowing how lame he sounded, but ignoring it. "so I just know that I need to do or say something and I do it."
Lily smiled and hugged him tighter than before. "You are really good with people and even better with words, I wish I could speak like you do. I always have to think a thousand and one times about what I'm a about to say."
"If it makes you feel better, you don't need to be good with words to make people feel better, just being there is enough." He said. "You had a book on your night-stand and I read bits here and there and there was this part that said 'Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.', I think the author some Mark Twain or something, but my point is tat that is you. You're so kind that you don't need to say anything, you use the language of love and that language is made with gestures and actions, not words. So yeah, maybe I'm better with words, but you don't even need them I find that way more fascinating." He said and she kissed him slowly and not passionately like when they're full of hormones, it was a slow, love-full kiss.
"You're a fool, James Potter, if you think yo don't have that gift too." She said knowing for tonight there was enough said for both of them.
James did wake up at 6 like promised, but the alarm clock didn't wake Lily up so he decided that she deserved a breakfast in bed. So he went to the kitchen as quietly as possible knowing the house elfs were already getting something for breakfast and hoping he could steal something for Lily. He'd cook it himself but he thought that for Lily's well being maybe he should get some lessons first, she hated food enough as it was... (A/N: I'm sorry if anyone finds this offensive but I learned the best way to deal with anything is to joke about it every now and then).
He had a tray with pancakes, and orange juice, and chocolate and all things nice and was about to leave the kitchen when his mother came in. "Why are you up this early?" She asked and then looked at the tray. "Sweet Merlin, James, it's 6:30 why are you so hungry already. I mean look at all the food you got there. How are you not obese, I do not know." She said and only then noticed the flower. James was still in shock trying to think of an excuse. "James, is that a flower?... Do you happen to have someone in your bedroom who you're bringing this lovely breakfast to?" She asked.
A/N: I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry for taking so long. I hope you don't hate me too much and that this chapter might have made up for it because it is full of fluff and James being adorable and all of that. Did you like the cliff hanger? I'll try to update soon, don't hate me. Favourite, follow and review it! I love ya'll sexy faces!
