Chapter 21 White Emptiness
Sesshomaru got out of his Lexus and gracefully walked around the car to open the door for Rin. A very flustered Rin stepped out, straightening her dress. She wore an emerald halter-top dress with puffy skirt which complemented her dark hair tied in an elegant loose bun. She wore a matching silk shawl around her shoulders. She looked up at him, her cheeks stained pink.
The demon couldn't help but admire her suddenly. She was modest and yet so beautiful. "Shall we?" Sesshomaru offered his arm as he closed the car door.
Rin beamed and looped her slender arm around his.
They walked towards the gilded double doors of one of the most spectacular fine dining restaurants in Japan. After they entered, the hostess instantly recognized the two and ushered them quickly to their seats near a window with a grand view.
"Everybody is staring." Rin muttered, feeling self-conscious. Other diners and even the employees were gawking at them. She poked at her steak with a fork nervously.
Of course they would be. Nobody has seen the elusive Taisho, Sesshomaru out on a real date. "Just ignore them Rin." It was his fault for not selecting a better restaurant that can offer them more privacy.
Rin pouted.
Sesshomaru sighed then turned to glare death at the people rudely staring. They jumped in their seats and looked away, embarrassed and partly scared for their life.
"There? Better?" He huffed.
Rin giggled. "Yes. Sorry."
Together they ate in silence.
When there was nothing left but two glasses and a bottle of wine being meticulously poured by the waiter, butterflies started fluttering in her stomach. Sesshomaru began folding the long sleeves of his pristine white shirt while staring outside the window.
Rin found the simple act… just hot.
She cleared her throat. "So… what is your father and step mother like?" Rin asked when the waiter left, trying to start a conversation and steer her thoughts away from how gorgeous the demon in front of her was.
Sesshomaru glanced at her from the corner of his eyes. "My father once ran the West Holdings Corporation. He was a powerful businessman." His expression suddenly changed in distaste. "Then he decided to abandon everything altogether and left me in charge so that he could live with my stepmother in another country."
Rin was surprised. "What does he do for a living now?"
"He's retired Rin. He's got enough money in the world to last him for centuries."
"Oh I see." Rin nodded thoughtfully.
This time, Sesshomaru turned towards her, his eyes on hers.
Rin fidgeted in her seat.
"What can you tell me about your parents?" He asked, thinking it was the perfect time to find out whether she knew that she was not Iwao's daughter.
Rin tilted her head to the side and smiled. "They're wonderful parents! My father and mother took care of me and Rika despite the fact they were busy with their own businesses. My mother owned half the floral shops here in Japan! And as you now know, my dad managed the Yamanaka Corporation with Nakago."
Sesshomaru leaned forward. "Are you sure? Your father, Iwao… he loved you?"
Rin was taken aback at the strange question. "Of course!" All she remembers was that she had a perfectly happy life growing up.
Sesshomaru nodded. He decided not to tell her what Toran had told him… for now. An illegitimate daughter. He found it strange that Iwao was nothing but a perfect father. How could that be?
"How did Iwao spend time with you while he is busy with the company?" He asked. When Sesshomaru was growing up, even his own father barely had time to spend with him. Of course, he had plenty of time to spend with Inuyasha since by the time the hanyou was born, Touga already retired. He gritted his teeth at the unnecessary jealousy clawing at him. Past is the past.
"Oh well you know…" Rin beamed and reached for her wine glass, thinking. What could be a good childhood memory with his father to share with Sesshomaru? She racked her brains for a memory… something that always made her feel happy inside.
Her eyes narrow subliminally. What was it?
She was always so happy and content. She had the perfect family. Her father treated her right, her mother loved her and even gave her the beautiful greenhouse.
But as she thought hard to recall a memory of happiness from her own family, her mind came up blank.
Suddenly she could NOT remember.
Why?!
As she tried to think and remember, only white emptiness came up. She began to feel nervous. A sudden flash… of a bloody mess in a place in her mansion, the place she avoided at all cost, that vision instead filled her mind.
NO! Why that?!
A sharp headache made her wince.
She turned towards the window and gasped when she saw a frightening, floating demon head, its red eyes staring intently at her. It quickly vanished and was replaced by the figure of No Name. She too vanished.
CRASH!
"RIN!" Sesshomaru suddenly screamed, making her jump out of her seat.
"Did you see that?!" She asked, pointing outside the window, slightly hysterical.
"See what?!" Sesshomaru asked, confused.
He grabbed her hand and raised it in concern.
Rin stared at the shards of glass she was gripping tightly. She was oblivious to the pain, as the blood began dripping on the white table. She opened her hands and the glass shards fell.
Did she do that?
"Seriously woman, what the hell are you thinking?" He picked off the large bloody shards from her palm and wrapped her hand tightly using his handkerchief.
"I have a bad headache." She whispered, raising her other hand against her ear.
Sesshomaru grabbed his coat from the chair and placed it on her shoulder. "We're going." He placed his arm around her waist protectively and led her outside towards his car. He was still dumbfounded as to what happened, but Rin's health comes first.
[Sesshomaru's Mansion]
"Sorry." Rin muttered, while Sesshomaru made sure that the wounds on her hand were clean and the new bandage was tightly sealed. She held a small ice pack against her head. She sat on the edge of Sesshomaru's wide four poster bed.
"Do not do that again, ever." He scolded. In all honesty, her blood's scent made him feel sick to his stomach. She should not be getting injured while he's around. "…does it hurt?"
"No."
Sesshomaru sat next to her, making the bed dip. "Mind telling me what happened?"
She sighed. "I honestly don't know. My head just started to hurt."
Sesshomaru nodded. "And what about what you saw outside the window?"
Rin stiffened. "You didn't see the floating demon head?"
His eyebrows rose. "No I didn't." And even if there was a demon present, he would've sensed it. Then his golden eyes narrowed.
"Did you get enough sleep?" He placed the back of his hand against her forehead. Hm. No fever.
She blushed. "Well… not really. I was excited about tonight. And I ruined it." She blew a stray hair out of her face.
He wanted to ask more questions. What happened was confusing, but he decided against it. What if her headache got worse? "Do not worry about it. We'll have more dates like that, if you like. A more private one would be better. No one will stare." He casually removed his shirt then laid himself out on his bed. He gently pulled Rin's form against him, molding her to his body. The girl tried her best to ignore the heat on her face. What happened recently made her feel scared, but Sesshomaru's presence made it better.
"That sounds nice, but the carnival is coming to town next week! I wanna go." She crooned against his neck.
He grimaced. "You enjoy those?"
"Of course!" She threw her arms around him. "…I mean, YOU ARE going to play games and win me stuffed animals, right?"
He pulled her chin up so that he could look at her directly. "You expect this Sesshomaru to play games for you for mere stuffed toys?" He asked, his tone low and a little menacing.
She leaned closer to his face. "Yes. You must."
The great demon dropped his head back onto the pillow, sighing. "I'll buy you a whole store of Build-a-Bear Workshop instead."
She rasperried. "Where's the fun in that?! We're going to the carnival to have fun, eat cotton candy, ride the Ferris wheel and win games!"
"I will be busy with work."
Oh hell no. "Make time."
Sesshomaru glared at her. "You are pushing your luck ordering me around."
She waved her hand, the one with her diamond ring in front of him. "It's your job now to make me happy too. Why don't you have your pretty secretary put me in your busy schedule."
Sesshomaru couldn't help but chuckle. Unable to help himself, he suddenly moved on top of her, pinning her under him.
"Demanding little thing, aren't you?" He purred.
The ice pack on her head rolled and fell onto the floor.
Rin gulped, her heart rate accelerating. "No I'm not."
She felt the pad of his hand trailing up her thighs. Her face flushed red. "You know, I still have a headache!" Sort of.
He smirked. "Of course. But did you know that according to a new research, sex is a better cure for headache than ice packs or painkillers?"
"Ohhh." She mumbled, feeling suddenly very, very hot.
"This date may have not gone as planned, but we can end it the way it's supposed to." His fingers brushed against her cheeks as he moved closer for a kiss.
"But you are going to go with me to the carnival right?" She pressured, avoiding his oh-so-tempting lips.
She could almost see him roll his eyes when he answered. "Fine. One game. That is all."
Rin grinned, satisfied as she held his face and surprisingly, she kissed him. He kissed her back, revelling in her willing mouth and soft body.
"Cure my headache then, Doctor." She teased.
She had no idea how her words affected the demon on her.
His hands were already working on the zipper of her dress. "Gladly."
"SESSHOMARU!"
Sesshomaru's eyes flew open as the sound of his father's voice assaulted his ears. He could hear him from downstairs. He sat up, rubbing sleep from his eyes. He glanced at the naked sleeping form next to him, her hair a wild array of mess on his pillow.
"My son! Where are you?!"
His nostrils flared in anger. It was too early for him to arrive! Didn't he say next week?
Somebody rapped loudly on his door. "Are you in there my boy?"
Rin began stretching next to him, her small mouth opening in a tired yawn. She frowned at the noise.
Before Sesshomaru could answer, the door slammed open, pouring bright light into the room.
Rin became wide awake and "eeeped!" loudly, wrapping the blanket around her body to hide her nakedness.
Sesshomaru also hid Rin behind him, not wanting his father to see what was his.
"Why the hell are you here already?" He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes tightly in annoyance.
"Oh." Touga's eyes widened in surprise in seeing his son's state of nakedness. "Er, Izayoi! You shouldn't come up here!" He yelled behind him.
Chaos. It was what's waiting for him for the following days, Sesshomaru thought irately.
"Well then, I'll close the door now and er… you'll introduce us to your fiancé later. I mean that woman with you right now IS your fiancé right?" He asked, staring at the girl who was peeping behind Sesshomaru's shoulders.
"Yes." He grounded out.
Touga laughed. "Well then. Nice to meet you Rin!" He closed the door.
"That was so awkward!" Rin whispered in horror.
Sesshomaru only shook his head. "Forget him."
A/N: Next chapter guys will be the final chapter for Part 1 of Broken Pieces. I seriously can't wait to start on Part 2 where a lot of things will be revealed, such as how Sesshomaru ended up in the prison and who Naraku is really working for. Also the revelation of No Name (Kanna look-alike) and what she really is.
I meant for this chapter to be lighthearted and fun, and tried to not make it as dark.
Love you all! Thanks for your patience.
