Phew, okay it's been a while, but I was really lacking motivation to write and I had classes to finish and stuff... But the semester is over now, well has been over for two weeks now, and I am trying to challenge myself to write and draw a little every day. Anyways, this one was fun to write and is something I've wanted to play around with for a little while now. All of this is written from my own knowledge so if there is something I've mischaracterized, feel free to let me know because I would rather be corrected than live in ignorance.

Just the Girl by Click Five

It was raining again. Axel hated the rain. He hated most water in general really. Swimming was his least favorite summer activity and his showers were always as short as possible. Sometimes he would race the commercials on his favorite show. But rain. Rain was his mortal enemy. Axel was a sun child. He thrived in warm weather and loved bon fires on warm summer nights. So dealing with annoying college students who wanted to get as much food for as little money as possible for 6 hours and rain outside the entire time, was really bringing down Axel's mood.

And that was when the little bell over the door tingled lightly and Axel's own personal sunshine walked in. Quite literally.

"Sunshine!" Axel straightened up, pushing away from his slumped leaning on the counter, a smile stretching across his face.

"Sunshine" smiled, almost a smirk really, blue eyes bright despite the cloudy weather. She tucked short blonde hairs behind her ear, several piercings catching the artificial lighting of the café. "Hey, Axel." She greeted, steeping forward. Her voice was a little on the deep side, but Axel kind of liked that. It was smooth and danced over Axel's skin. She brushed nonexistent lint off the brightly colored sundress she wore, soft lips parting as she watched Axel put in her usual coffee order without her having to ask. "You know me so well."

"Well you are the brightest part of my work days." Axel smiled back. "Leave it to you to wear a sundress on the gloomiest day of the year."

"I dress for myself, not the weather." Sunshine said, leaning against the counter as she contemplated what she would order for lunch to go with her coffee.

"May I recommend the new roast beef sandwich? You need either a fork or a bib to eat it, but man is it tasty." Axel laughed, leaning forward a little towards Sunshine.

Sunshine mulled it over a little, the almost smirk never quite leaving her lips. "Sounds good. I think I'll try that. I'll stick to the fork today though; can't let everyone see how much of a slob I can be." She laughed.

"Yeah I feel ya on that one. I try to keep the food out of my pants when I'm in public." Axel laughed.

"I'm sure everyone would appreciate that."

"Well, you know the drill. Find a seat and we'll deliver right to you."

"Of course. See you later, Axel." Oh man, Axel loved hearing his name roll off her tongue.

"Later, Sunshine."

Axel worked Monday, Wednesday, Friday and sometimes Saturday, and had college classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Sunshine came into the café for lunch everyday. She was the highlight of his workdays, with a confident strut, accented by clicking high heels, an almost smirk, and the occasional sarcastic remark. Although he would never admit it, anyone could catching him slumping forward and sighing dreamily as she left the café every time. He would admit he had a crush on her though, even though he doesn't actually know her name, and his coworkers constantly badgered him to just ask her out already! But he couldn't. There was one little problem. And his name was Roxas.

Roxas was a student in several of Axel's classes. They were both freshman and therefore stuck in basic ed classes that everyone had to take despite being in completely different majors. He was a short blond haired, blue eyed boy, with a glare that could kill and a razor sharp smirk. Okay, yeah, so Axel has a type, sue him. The fact was, Axel had a crush on Roxas too. He couldn't exactly ask them both out, he wasn't that kind of guy. So he had to figure out which one to ask one. And that was the whole problem.

"Hey, Ax, you're a chem major, right?" Speak of the devil. Axel turns to Roxas with a half smile that is probably too flirty, but that's just how he is with Roxas and Sunshine. He can't help it.

"Yeah. What cha need?"

Roxas is leaning towards him, big blue eyes half hidden behind bangs that are probably getting too long, not that Axel minds, but Roxas probably doesn't care anyways. "That means you're pretty good at math right?" Axel makes a weird hand motion that he hopes Roxas understands as "yeah I guess kinda" because that's what he means. "Well my English major brain doesn't do math well, so I am totally lost in my math class and was wondering if you could be the super awesome guy you are and help me?" Roxas is making that cute pleading face and Axel knows he couldn't deny him if he wanted to.

"Of course. Got somewhere we can meet or something?"

"Are you free after class? We can just head over to my dorm. My roommate should be out till late tonight."

Axel was pretty sure his heart stopped right there. After class? In Roxas's dorm? Alone? Till late tonight possibly? No, calm down. It doesn't have to turn into anything. It's just studying right? He still has time to figure out who he wants to actually date. "Yeah sure. No problem." Axel smiles, although his brain is in some kind of turmoil at the moment. But Roxas smiles and Axel forgets all about it.

After class Axel follows Roxas across campus and into his dorm, a nice two bedroom with a small living room slash kitchen slash dinning room. He got lucky with one of the new suites they've built for the college. They throw their backpacks down and flop on the ratty couch (just because he got a nice suite doesn't mean he got nice furniture for it) while Roxas finds his math work that he needs help with. They go over the math for a while, laughing over the blonds inability to comprehend math even in its simplest form while Roxas tries to argue that Axel wouldn't be able to write a paper as well as he can. Which Axel admits is true, his writing is shit, and they laugh some more. After an hour or so, they put the math away and just chill, talking and laughing and snacking on Roxas's roommate's doritos, because Roxas doesn't care about Sora's supposed "ownership" of the food he buys.

"So Ax, I've been meaning to as you." Roxas starts, and he has that smirk on his face, the one Axel is pretty sure means trouble. "Do you flirt with everyone, or am I just a special case?" The smirk grows as he finishes his sentence, leaning back into the arm of the couch opposite Axel.

And now Axel has a choice. Either lie and act like he flirts with everyone, or tell the truth and let Roxas know he likes him. Well really the choice is obvious, because Axel doesn't like being a liar, at least not to people that matter. So he shrugs and says "I flirt with people I like."

"So you like me?" Roxas asks innocently, the smirk still in place and his eye dangerously dark.

Axel laughs lightly, shaking his head. "Do you really have to ask me that, Rox?"

"So if you like me so much, how about we go out somewhere? You know, a date?" Axel is starting to think if that smirk doesn't go away soon, Roxas's face is going to be stuck that way.

"W-well…" And there goes cool-guy-Axel, welcome nervous wreak. "You see… The problem is… I also kind of like someone else too." Axel grabbed at the back of his neck, his worst nervous habit, as he looked away.

"So you like someone else too?" Roxas's smirk was finally gone, an almost frown taking its place.

"I-I mean, I still like you too! I just… I don't know who I like more yet and I wanted to figure that out first before I did anything, although now that I think about it, it would have been stupid to choose one and not even know if either of you even like me and-"

"Axel!" Roxas laughs, cutting Axel's rambling off. "It's alright, I understand. You like both of us and want to figure things out first." Roxas smiles, not really a smirk anymore, but not a full on smile yet either. "Maybe I can help?"

"Uhhh." Oh real intelligent Axel, way to show your smarts. "I guess? You could try."

"Alright. First off, who is this guy?"

"Uh girl…"

"Oh, you're bi then."

"Pan actually. I'm more interested in the person than the gender, you know?" Axel shrugs.

"Ah nice." Roxas nods and there's something in his eyes that Axel can't quite identify. "Girl then, who is she?"

"Well I… actually don't know her name." Axel mumbles.

"You… don't know her name." Roxas repeats flatly.

"Well she comes into my work for lunch every day, or at least every day that I work, but I never bothered to ask for an actual name, I just sort of… gave her one." Axel is shrinking farther and farther into the couch, feeling stupid for not actually knowing one of his crushes name.

"Then what do you call her?"

"Sunshine…" He mumbles. That look is in Roxas's eyes again and Axel wishes he knew what it meant.

"So what's she like?" Roxas voice is soft and it surprises Axel.

"Well… she's blonde. With blue eyes." Axel chuckles nervously, hand still on the back of his neck. "You can tell I have a type I guess. Anyways, she's… sarcastic, but nice, and has… so much confidence in herself. And she's just… fun to be around I guess. But… you are too. I like being around both of you, in pretty much the same way and it's driving me crazy."

And Roxas laughs.

Axel is nearly pulling his hair out and Roxas is laughing.

The nerve.

"What the hell are you laughing at?" Axel growls.

"Just- just hold on a second, I'll be right back. I think I have a solution to your problem." Roxas says, still laughing as he gets up and leaves the room, disappearing into the hallway and, Axel assumes, into his room. And so Axel waits, pouting on the couch, for somewhere around ten minutes, before he hears footsteps coming back into the room. But when he looks up, it's not Roxas he sees, but Sunshine. Yep, Sunshine. Blonde hair, blue eyes, another sundress like yesterday and pastel colored heels, slim hips cocked to the side and a smirk on her lips.

"Sunshine?"

Her smirk gets a little wider. "I guess it's time you knew my name. Most of my friends call me… Roxas."

"Roxas….?" Axel is pretty sure he can win the award for dumbest statement ever at this point.

"Yep. I am Roxas. I appreciate the nickname, but you don't have to call me that anymore, if you don't want to." She, or is it he? Leans against the wall.

"I don't… understand."

"Well… I'm a guy, dick and everything, and I like being a guy and acting like one and dressing like one, but I also like being a girl, and acting like one and dressing like one. So, I decided to be both." Roxas shrugs.

"You're gender fluid." Axel clarifies, although it's pretty obvious really and he needs to stop acting like an idiot, my god.

"Bingo. You've been flirting with two different versions of me." Roxas smirked and he could see him through Sunshine and it all made sense.

"Well then… that's a relief I guess." Axel sits back, trying to absorb the fact that his two crushes, that he had spent so much time trying to compare to find one he liked more, were just one, awesome person. "So how about that date?"

Roxas smiled.
