Chapter 20

A Fat Chance of Victory Part 2

"I'm serious! I don't get what Dr. Sparks meant by 'I need to push myself to the limits,'" Jason groaned as he, Zoe and Olivia walked through the forest in search of energy power.

"I know, right? It's a mystery," Zoe muttered sarcastically.

"Are you saying that I'm not trying?" asked Jason, insulted.

"Ignore her. She's just being bossy cause Callum's not here," Olivia smirked.

Zoe immediately whipped around at this. "It's because he's not here to lead us!" she snapped. "I'm second in command so I'll take control!"

As if on queue, her Blue Energy Morpher started bleeping. Zoe pulled it out and the morpher bleeped louder and faster like a metal detector.

"My morpher's picking up energy signals! I'll call Callum and let him know," she said.

As Zoe started doing this, Olivia nudged Jason with her elbow and mischievously made a love heart gesture with her hands. Jason snorted at this.

"What did they find?" asked Alex as Callum put down his Red Energy Morpher.

"Zoe's picking up energy signals from her morpher," said Callum as he and Alex walked through the streets of New Zealand.

Alex grinned. "Any other signals?"

Callum gave him a confused look. "What do you mean?"

"Ohh nothing," said Alex, trying not to smirk.

Callum lowered his eyebrows and opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when a blast of energy appeared out of nowhere, knocking both boys over. They both looked up, just as the energy flames cleared away . . .

"You?!" Callum exclaimed as the all-too familiar Amazon Ranger appeared in front of them.

"Surprised?" she sneered.

Without a moment's hesitation, Callum and Alex jumped to their feet and pulled out their Energy Morphers.

"Ready?" Callum asked.

"Ready!" Alex shouted.

The boys held out their Energy morphers and chanted "Sports Energy, Suit Up!"

As Callum and Alex morphed into the Red and Yellow Energy Rangers, Ernestine chuckled.

"Bring it on."

The Red and Yellow Energy Rangers let out battle yells and pulled out theur weapons, Callum with his Lightning Saber and Alex with his Hock Hammer, both of them charging at Ernestine. The Amazon Ranger stood her ground, ready to fight . . .

"The energy signals seem to be coming from the top of that hill!" said Zoe, pointing at a large and very steep slope.

"Perfect," Jason muttered sarcastically.

Zoe glared at him. "Are you going to push yourself or not?"

"I'm trying!" said Jason as he and the girls began to make theur way up the slope.

About twenty seconds later (maybe more or less), Jason let out a gasp.

"Tired already?" Zoe didn't even bother to turn around.

"Oh come on! It's not even that far up!" Olivia exclaimed in frustration.

Zoe snorted. "Keep him going. I'll find the PROPER energy," she ordered, making her way to the top of the slope in front of the others. Olivia rolled her eyes as Jason nearly collapsed.

"Come ON! We're halfway up! You can make the rest of it."

Jason groaned. "Sorry but I'm just not as fit as you, Livvy."

"Don't call me that," the pink ranger muttered in a threatning tone.

"Your brother can call you that. Why can't I?" asked Jason.

Olivia frowned. "Because it's only a special nickname that Alex can call me. If anyone else calls me Livvy, I'll break them."

"Okay then, Livvy!" Jason smirked.

Olivia gave him a death glare. Jason understood this and shuddered slightly.

"Okay, I won't call you that!" he cried, a little scared.

"Good," said Olivia, nodding sternly.

"HA!"

Jason and Olivia jerked when they heard Zoe yell. It sounded like she had found some energy power! The two Rangers grinned and began to run up the hill.

"WHOA!"

"Must be some pretty strong energy power," Olivia smiled.

"I wonder if it's good for NOT getting tired while running up slopes!" said Jason, wheezing slightly as he and Olivia made their way to the top . . .

"Look out!" Zoe called.

Confused, Jason and Olivia exchanged glances but ducked anyway. It turned out to be a good thing as a wave of blue slime splashed above them (but not on them) and exploded into the ground.

"What was that?" cried Olivia.

"Beats me," said Jason.

They soon found out. The slime had come from a fat blue toad-like monster. He was VERY fat and hat large warts covering nearly part of his body. It hat turned out that Zoe had found some energy power but the monster had appeared in front of her before she could approach it and they were now fighting for the energy.

"I will give you one last chance, Blubba," Zoe muttered in a warning tone. "Do you really wanna mess with me over some energy power?"

"Blubba?!" Jason almost laughed at the monster's name if Olivia hadn't elbowed her.

"Zoe's in trouble! We've got to help her!" she exlaimed.

Zoe whipped around at this. "I was doing fine!" she snapped. "I don't need your help!" She then charged at Blubba who shot more slime from his warts (which made Olivia shudder). Zoe front flipped through them and attempted to kick Blubba in his fat stomach. Blubba responded by grabbing Zoe's ankle and throwing her over to her teammates.

"HEY!" Zoe yelled, not expecting Blubba to be that strong. She immediately jumped to her feet and pulled out her Blue Energy Morpher. "Callum! We've run into a sticky situation here!"

"Sorry Zoe, but we've got problems of our own!" Callum replied. A slashing sound was heard before a thud. Callum grunted and called "Miss Amazon's back!" Then another slashing sound and then what sounded like an explosion. Callum and Alex could be heard screaming in pain before the signal was cut off.

"Callum? CALLUM?!" Zoe cried, worried.

Olivia quickly pulled out her Pink Energy Morpher. "Alex, come in. Alex?"

No reply.

Blubba laughed. "Looks like you three are on your own!" He shot more slime at the three Rangers who ducked and managed to stand the explosion. It was a pretty feisty explosion though.

Zoe growled and stood up very straight, followed by Jason and Olivia who had their Green and Pink Energy Morphers ready to go.

"Now you've mad me mad," Zoe growled. "And when I'm mad, it's not pretty!" She held out her Blue Energy Morpher. "Ready?"

"READY!" Jason and Olivia replied.

"Sports Energy, Suit Up!"

Blubba looked a little nervous as a very determined Blue Energy Ranger pulled out her Ice Blade while the Green and Pink Energy Rangers prepared to fight.

Zoe nodded her head and Olivia and Jason immediately charged at Blubba. The fat monster shot more explosive slime from his warts. Jason quickly tumbled out of the way but Olivia ran through the explosions before leaping into the air, performing a front flip in an attempt to pummel him in his stomach with her feet. But Blubba just laughed and before Olivia could react, she found herself bouncing off his stomach like it was a trampoline!

As Olivia tumbled to the ground, Zoe charged at Blubba with her Ice Blade. Blubba laughed again and two blades appeared from a wart from each hand. The Blue Energy Ranger growled, not intimitated and lashed out with her sword. Blubba swiftly defended himself with his blades but Zoe was too quick and slashed him in the stomach.

Blubba screamed as Zoe slashed him again and again, causing sparks to shoot out from him. On the fifth slash, he stumbled back, clutching his stomach in pain.

"Blue Energy Ice Blast!"

The Blue Energy Ranger shot icy air from her hand, causing even more sparks to fly from the fat monster. He collapsed to his knees, making Zoe snort.

"I told you it wouldn't be pretty when I'm mad," she said, lowering her sword.

"Nice one Zoe," Olivia smiled.

"Thanks," Zoe said cockily. "I'm glad to know that I'm the only one who actually TRIED!" she added, glaring at Jason.

"Well I was gonna put in my effort too! But you spoiled everything," the Green Energy protested, making Zoe roll her eyes. Then she spotted Blubba climbing to his feet and held up her sword defensively.

"Hey! Just back off!" she ordered.

Blubba just laughed again. He then shot more slime at the Rangers, this time from a different wart. Jason and Olivia jumped out of the way and Zoe defended the slime off with her sword.

"Ha! Nice try, BLUBBA!"

She spoke too soon. Next thing, her sword began to spark. Zoe stood there, not sure how to react.

"What did you do to it?"

She soon found out. The Ice Blade sparked one last time before rusting completely and splitting in two. Zoe's eyes widened in horror before she dropped her weapon, realising how useless it was now. Blubba laughed at this and shot more slime at a now defensless Blue Energy Ranger.

"Ugh! Disgusting!" she grunted as it splashed all over her, soaking her Ranger costume. Blubba laughed again.

"Shocking, isn't it?"

The slime that covered Zoe turned into electricity and Zoe let out a shriek as she felt herself being shocked throughout her body, sparks shooting from her Ranger costume. She collapsed to the ground, clutching her body in pain.

"Zoe!" Olivia cried before leaping into the air above Blubba. "Pink Energy Air Twister!"

She began spinning and collecting the pink energy before shooting it back at Blubba who just stood there, not intimitated. The Pink Energy Ranger soon found out why- a fraction too late.

Her energy beams weren't affecting Blubba. In fact, they were doing the exact opposite. Instead of causing damage, the energy beams were bouncing off of Blubba and shooting in Olivia's direction! Before Olivia could react, the beams exploded into her. She lost her concentration as her Ranger costume sparked and she crash landed next to Zoe.

"Jason, DO something!"

"Right!" The Green Energy Ranger pulled out his Racket Blaster but Blubba just stood there in a jolly but creepy manner. Realising that his bullets would only backfire on him, Jason put down his weapon and charged at Blubba, throwing a combat punch at him. Blubba just defended it off and slashed him with his blades.

Jason let out a grunt and stumbled back but attempted to kick Blubba on the shoulder. Again, Blubba defended himself well, grabbed Jason's leg and flipped him onto his back. Getting frustrated, Jason jumped up into the air, ready for another shot. Blubba reacted by shooting more slime at him. The slime knocked Jason to the ground and caused him to demorph.

"Jason! You're not even trying!" Zoe yelled as she and Olivia jumped to their feet.

"It's not me! The slime deactivated my Ranger costume!" cried Jason.

Annoyed, Zoe charged at Blubba, Olivia close beside her. Blubba just laughed and slashed his blades at both female Rangers. They fell to the ground and Blubba shot out another wave of slime into the ground. The ground exploded in front of Zoe and Olivia, sending them flying- flying far enough to send them crash landing onto the steep slope and tumbling down it.

Olivia landed hard on her side and Zoe banged her head against the ground so it was a good thing she had her blue helmet on. But she didn't have her helmet on for long- both girls demorphed from Blubba's power.

Blubba laughed and bounced over to where the energy power was coming from. "All for ME!" He held out a hand, collecting up energy power. Jason noticed this and jumped to his feet and held out his Green Energy Morpher, ready to go.

"Sports Energy, Suit Up!"

Nothing . . .

"Oh no," Jason murmured, glancing at his morpher. "Tell me this isn't happening!"

He looked up at Blubba who was still collecting energy power and charged at him. But Blubba just chuckled and disappeared before Jason could strike him. Jason groaned and slapped his leg in frustration, just as the Red and Yellow Energy Rangers were arriving at the scene.

"You okay?" Alex asked.

Jason groaned again. "That STUPID fat monster deactivated my morpher! And I was ready to give him all I got."

"I'm sure Dr. Sparks will find a solution," said Callum sternly. "Where are Zoe and Olivia?"

"Down there," said Jason, pointing at the slope.

Callum and Alex nodded and immediately raced down the hill. Jason watched them- and suddenly felt a churning feeling in his stomach. It was VERY sickly. He fell to his knees, clutching his stomach . . .

Dr. Sparks was examining Jason's Green Energy Morpher and Zoe's Ice Blade in the lab.

"These shouldn't take long to fix," he said. "Hopefully they'll be ready in time for the next battle."

"Good," said Zoe in a determined tone. "I'll slice that fat Blubba before he can beg for mercy. That's what he gets for destroying my weapon with his disgusting slime."

"Hey. You didn't see it coming. It could have happened to anyone," said Callum encouragingly.

"That's a bit rich coming from someone who got beaten by the SAME female villain!" Zoe snapped. "You should have known better how to deal with her!"

"I didn't know what happened," said Callum. "She had brand new abilities! Only they were stronger and VERY similar to odurs! When I tried to use my Laser Boost, she just zoomed by and next thing I knew, my costume was burning, like it was on fire!"

"Yeah, and she defended my Enforce Strike like it was a feather. I've never seen anything like it!" said Alex.

"Sounds like Paine's upping his game," said Olivia before looking around her. "Where's Jason?"

"I think he's in the training room. He's pretty ticked off from the Blubba fight after his morpher got deactivated," said Callum.

Olivia nodded and headed over to the training room. Sure enough, Jason was sitting there. But he wasn't training- instead he was sitting cross-legged on the ground, eating a packet of chips.

"What are you doing?" asked Olivia, frowning a little.

"It's called comfort eating. Maybe you should try it sometime," Jason mumbled through a mouthful of chips.

The pink ranger shuddered slightly. "You know you COULD calm yourself down more by working on your weaknesses so you'll be preprared for next time."

"I'll think about it," Jason murmured.

"Come on. Dr. Sparks is fixing your morpher. I'll do some training with you," smiled Olivia. "Pretend I'm Blubba."

Jason burst out laughing. "You? BLUBBA?! Never gonna happen! You're SKINNY! And you're way pre-" He quickly trailed off and cleared his throat. "Let's just practice," he said, blushing a little.

Olivia smirked as Jason stood up, ready to fight. Then she froze.

"What are you waiting for?" Jason grinned. "Show me what you've got."

Olivia said nothing. She was staring at Jason, examining him very closely. Jason lowered his eyebrows in confusion.

"Hey! Livvyyyyy." He waved his arms around.

Finally Olivia took a deep breath and said "Jason, I'm gonna ask you one question and I want you to give me an honest answer."

"Yeah? Go ahead."

Olivia hesitated. Then she asked the green ranger:

"Have you put on weight?"
