Anyone found that cliffhanger too bad? And lord we're sorry. This update is too far overdue. Raquel is watching anime 24/7 and we need her to come back. any ideas?

So, there are The Infernal Devices involved in this but we won't change the setting as a crossover. And it's just for a few chapters anyway soooo yeah. Anyways, DISCLAIMER: All characters are created by Cassandra Clare :)

Why we aren't exactly updating regularly: Raquel is trying to catch up on Fairy Tail. She was against anime entirely until her other friends introduced her to Fairy Tail so… yeah. We're a little slow.

We aren't trying to rely on her or anything, she just does most of the writing. So, here's the next chapter and hopefully it won't be as boring!

"Tessa?" Jem gasps and falls into my arms. Well, this is totally not awkward.

"No!" Tessa reaches out as if she could reach out to Jem when he's now purposely backing out. "I didn't- I didn't-"

"Shut. Up." Jem's voice is too calm, it's scary. He stands up slowly, moving one step at a time towards Tessa. "Shut. Up." He repeats. I stand next to Magnus now, just to give him some space. Tessa cowers back to the wall, her back straight up against it. Her eyes widen in fear, yet her body stays in tact, unmoving.

"Jem, I-"

"How long have I fought for you?" Jem snaps. "How long have I waited for you? We were engaged. TWICE!" ouch "And this is how you treat me? I thought you would have changed after a century. But NO! You're still the same damsel-in-distress, self-centred, BITCH."

"Buuuuurnnn," I hear Camille snap her fingers quietly in the background. Raphael smirks as well. Magnus though, has the worst reaction. His hands are in fists and his cat eyes are blazing. Is that supposed to mean he's angered? No shit he's angry. He's practically shaking. I reach out to him and put my hand on his shoulder. His eyes dim, but his body language hasn't changed.

"You know how much power it takes to say those 3 words," says Jem slightly quieter. "You know how much time it takes to develop such an emotion. Yet you can say that so simply to one of Axel Mortmain's descendants!" Tessa's head hits the brick on the wall, her head turned to the side so only half her face can see Jem. And still, her brown waves cover her eyes.

"Just because he's a descendent doesn't mean he isn't a good person!" Tessa spits back. She isn't strong enough though. The rage in Jem's eyes are worse than ever.

"He has the same goals as the Magister had; the same reason why he wants you! He's using you like the Magister did. Can't you see that? History is repeating itself!" Jem is getting really frustrated. He's always seemed like the cal guy who tried to see all reason to both sides. Guess now isn't one of those times…

"No, it's not," Tessa fights back. She stands straight now, her feet supporting her own weight yet wobbling from the alcohol. "I follow him by will, I help him by choice, and I love him by heart. There is nothing in the past, present, or future, in any universe that can change that!"

Jem sighs and steps back. Tessa smirks in victory, but the battle isn't over yet.

"I'm not doing this by choice, but it's to help." He pulls out a blade and flattens it out. He puts it right at Tessa's neck. "Walk."

He leads her towards the forcefield she doesn't know is there. I'm guess Tessa doesn't know how to fight since she's freehanded and could easily strike Jem down right now. That big mouth of hers is going to get her to the worst a sad quality to have with no defence skills.

"Where are you taking me?"

"Somewhere. Now walk." Jem's voice is so much stronger than I ever thought it could get to. It's so deep, it can practically echo in your mind like he was still a Silent Brother. Tessa listens with her head bowed down. Just a little closer to the force field…

BBBBBBZZZZZ

Jem turns around. "I couldn't directly hurt her myself. I don't have such willpower," he admits, answering our unasked question. Magnus looks down at the ground and I see a tear hit the concrete. Oh, Raziel. Magnus never cries.

"Magnus…" My voice is low, shaking.

"Get me out of here," he demands. "Before I destroy everything." I look around us. Raphael and Camille both look at each other, then to Jem, and to us. They both nod at me to take Magnus someplace else, then kneel down beside the standing Jem to take Tessa away.

"Let's go." Courageously, I take Magnus's hand and force him disable the electrifying wall as we walk past them.

It feels weird to be out in public while holding Magnus's hand. I need a better solution.

Wings…

I guess some things need to be sacrificed. Thank the angel that it's clothes.

My white wings spread out, the fabric ripping. I feel the glamour and minimization rune fading in its wake.

"Alec, what are you-?"

"Don't talk," I say softly. With my newfound levitation powers, I lift him up along with me as I direct us to a place I haven't exactly thought about in a while… The Institute.

On the way to the Institute, I think about Isabelle and Jace. They're both definitely asleep by now. Can I reach them in their dreams? I mean, I have the power to do a bunch of other crazy shit so why not be like the sandman and see if I can reach into their minds? Why am I getting into this angel shit all of a sudden as well? I'm so curious…

I turn my head to Magnus and watch as a last tear falls from his face until he passes out from crying. Clearly, something triggered Magnus's emotions and it's a pretty deep.

Magnus, what's wrong? I want to ask. Right now though, flying through the polluted air of NYC, isn't a good place to ask. There's dust everywhere and I'm coughing as I speak… or think? IDFC.

I land on the roof of the Institute. I can't bring him into the building itself otherwise his powers might drain slightly since the Institute blocks out all Downworlders unless accepted by the leaders of the Institute.

I lay Magnus gently on a thin mattress I quickly summoned just so I don't have to tire myself out with levitating him.

"Alec?" It's Izzy.

"Wh-what are you doing still up? And up here?" I stutter most of the words.

"I heard something and I just came to check it out," she says groggily. She really must have been asleep.

"Go back to sleep," I order her. "I'll catch you up in the morning."

"No." Isabelle is stubborn, clearly. "I want to know what happened, now."

"Please," I break down to the ground in weakness. "We'll talk tomorrow."

"Alec…" Isabelle starts to walk towards me. She looks even more like a monster without her makeup and doing her hair. "This," she points to Magnus, "isn't something that can wait until tomorrow."

Nope. She will never give up.

"I can't, but it will have to." She takes a step closer.

"Just so you know, Mum and Dad are out at a Clave meeting again. I've been put in charge." Ohhhhh. "I, Isabelle Lightwood, accept the Downworlder, Magnus Bane, within the pathways of this Institute. I will take full responsibility to all mistakes or faults and apply credit to healing or support."

"Thanks."

"You owe me. And I would very much prefer you to pay me back with an explanation." She takes a step towards Magnus and I again. No. Not today. I'm not in the mood for it. I'm surprised she hasn't even commented on my bright clothes yet.

I stretch my arms out and suddenly feel light. By light, I mean lightheaded. More like everything that causes someone to become lightheaded, actually.

"Sleep." The word suddenly escapes me. I don't know what it means in this situation but it seems to be activating that lightheaded feeling into Izzy. She falls slightly, but I catch her with my levitation abilities.

"Go to your room," I demand. I'm not sure how, but she actually goes to her room as my levitation thing keeps her afloat. She seems to be having a dream about that Daylighter. No, I have nothing against him, I just need to get use to him. He's an odd guy so… don't mind my opinions.

"Magnus," I sigh. "Tell me what's wrong," I pray in my head.

"You're finally awake," I sigh of relief. Magnus eyes twitch as the sunrise shines down on his face. His tan skin compliments it, making him look more calm than he usually is. He looks… cute, sweet even.

So, I did stay up all night just watching him. My mind has such an awkward way of working.

"Yeah. Did you get any rest last night?" Yup, it's definitely true. A guy's morning voice is the sexiest shit ever.

"Well, I uh… I just stayed up to keep an eye out for anything…" I thought Raziel would help me out with the stuttering?!

"We're in the Institute… in your room?" Magnus points out. "Er… why am I shirtless?" He rolls over to his side on my bed and looks at me. I sit on my black beanbag chair that sits in the corner, just close enough to see Magnus without being too close or near.

I chuckle awkwardly and rub the back of my neck in embarrassment. I didn't use my levitation powers to carry him down to my room after putting Isabelle to bed. He looked like he was sweating and the vest he was wearing made him look uncomfortable so I took it off. Then there was light sweat on his back so I took off his shirt too… It just felt more appropriate at the time.

I try to explain everything that happened but I keep stuttering. Is there some sort of spell or whatever, a rune, that I could use to stop it?

"Alexander, calm down," he smirks. "Mind telling me how I'm still alive in the Institute? Because, I kind of doubt that your parents would let me in."

"Um… Izzy found me with you on the roof and since our parents were out, she held responsibility of protecting the Institute. She's the one who let you in," I explain.

"Oh…" There's an awkward silence between us. "Come lie down next to me." When he breaks the silence with those words, my cheeks go red. I can just feel it.

"I'm not tired," I insist. I've been up for over 24 hours.

"Alexander," says Magnus seriously, his voice getting lower and more demanding. "Come. Lie. Down. Next. To. Me."

He's hot when he's like this. Shirtless, looking at me with… lust? I'M NOT READY FOR THAT YET. IT'S ONLY BEEN AROUND 2-3 WEEKS!

"Ok…" I say shaking slightly. I get off my black chair and fix my pants a little. I couldn't stand the bright colours in the dark last night so I fixed myself up with black everything again.

I go around the bed to the left side and lie down on the edge, facing away from him. This is soooo embarrasssiinngg…

"When I say next to me, I actually meant…" his arm goes around my waist and suddenly, my whole body is pressed to his chest. "this."

"Oh…" My head tucks underneath his chin nicely and his body warmth is getting me hard. This isn't good. Well, not in the way I'd prefer it.

"Alec?" Magnus says softly.

"Hm?"

"What Tess is doing… do you believe there is a way to get her back?" I give a sad smile.

"I don't know, but I believe so. Some people can be more bad than good, but there's still some goodness in them. People who have that can still be saved." That is ddeeeepp.

"You never answered my question. Well, I don't remember whether you did or not." I raise an eyebrow and turn around. "About November and December, what's happening then?" Magnus shuffles back slightly so I can move closer to him. He takes my hands and fiddles with them, waiting for an answer. Why is he asking now? It'll just hurt him even more. "I'd rather have all the pain taken in at once." Huh? Can he read minds or something? I know I can, but just not his… I'm not particularly sure why. I can read Camille's, Raph's, Jordan's, I just don't intend to. Sometimes, their thoughts can be slightly… disturbing.

"Maryse and Robert said that the Lightwoods were elected to search for Jonathan Morgenstern in Alicante. And since I'm an 'adult' now, I have to go with them." Magnus's eyes widen at this.

"You're leaving?" Magnus looks as if he's about to cry again. Yet, under the light of the sunrise from my window, he looks like a powerful angel.

"I don't want to though," I sigh. I don't think I'm worthy of going. I mean… look at me! I'm a Shadowhunter who has never killed a demon! What kind of 18 year old Shadowhunter is that? I'm a mere mundane if not a pointless Shadowhunter!

Magnus's head falls, his hair covering his eyes slightly.

"Do you know why I started to breakdown?" he asks.

"I've wondered…" why is he bringing this up?! "I just don't want to push you to talking about something that's going to hurt you even more." He chuckles halfheartedly.

"It doesn't hurt," he lies. "It's more of a disappointment."

?

"I've fallen in love twice in my life. One time would be when I was literally just 16. I waited a century for her reincarnation to fix my screw ups with her. Instead, history repeated itself. I got over it, but now that I see that it's happening between Jem and Tessa, I feel so worthless for not being able to do anything." Magnus starts to laugh as a few drops of tears fall from the corner of his eyes and lands on my white pillow. I get even closer to him so my body is just inches from fulling touching him. Raising one hand, I gently caress his flawless features, and wipe his tears away with the other. The reflection of light upon those streaks of tears make him look so vulnerable, he's a brittle as glass.

"You said you've only ever fallen in love twice," I say calmly. "When was the second time?" Magnus smiles a little.

"I love you, Alexander." Now I have a single tear going down the corner of my eye. I'm silent for a while, unable to speak.

"I love you too," I smile, nothing more than a whisper. Our foreheads touch, my hand now resting upon the nape of his neck. With the sunrise, it feels even sweeter. Especially when it's the start of a clear day in polluted New York.

Finally, thought Magnus. Huh? How? How can I hear his thoughts? After so many years…

A toothy smile lights up my face. I don't know what else to feel. I can just think, he loves me. He loves me. He loves me. He loves me.

Our lips lightly touch. It feels like my first kiss again… if that makes any sense.

"Magnus?" I pull away first, but for a good reason. "No matter what happens, promise you'll do as I say even in the worst conditions?"

He gasps, but with the look in my eyes, he understands.

"I promise."

In the morning, I sneak Magnus out of the Institute. It's not very hard when I can just fly him out the window. I'm finally back in my old jeans, oversized jacket, and black converse. Magnus doesn't even both complaining, saying that I look more like myself this way. He goes and changes once we're at his loft though.

Tessa lies sparkled out on Magnus's couch. She looks exactly the same as we found her last night. The only difference is how pale she is.

"Maybe that forcefield was too strong?" suggests Magnus as we all crowd around her. "Her pulse is strong," he observes as he takes her wrist, "and her breathing is regular. I think she's just going into aftershock." We all sigh, but Jem is the loudest. He doesn't look to healthy either. His hair is rumpled, and his body looks weak. He's wearing what he wore last night and it doesn't look like he's gotten an ounce of sleep.

"Give her a while," says Camille.

"It's noon," Raph glares. We all go silent again.

"Maybe I could…" Quickly, I shut my mouth up. Magnus's eyes widen and his head tilts up to look at me.

"You don't think it could…" he trails off, hoping I understand his message.

"What the hell are you two going on about?" asks Camille trying to see right through us. It isn't working out for her.

"There's no harm to try…" I hum.

"All right. Everyone, out. Jem, you too." Everyone gets shoved into one of the guest rooms and Magnus locks it from the outside. He comes up to me and looks me in the eye, hoping I'm not too nervous about this. My hands fist in my jacket pockets and fiddle with the zipper.

"You don't have to do this is you don't want to, okay?" I nod and stand. The weight of my wings seem to have grown on my back though I didn't feel it at all before I stood up.

"Take your time. I'll be right here in case anything happens." With another nod of my head, I let that weight on my back concentrate to my outstretched palms. Runes work better closer to the heart right? Or was it the area it is needed… I'm going with heart. If that is so, I'll just concentrate magic to her heart… I think it's the same sort of logic? Hell, I don't know.

The golden glow radiates from my outstretched hands and as my hands lean closer to Tessa, her body starts to glow as well.

"It's working," assures Magnus. "She's not as pale." I sigh in relief and continue using this magic energy. Within a minute or so, Magnus tells me she's going to be okay and she just needs rest so I stop and sit down. To heal, I now realize, does take some energy out of me. I'll just need to hide it.

"I'm going to let them out now," says Magnus in his softest voice. I don't speak again and just nod. Tessa stirs, but I make nothing of it. The two vampires and old-ish Shadowhunter reappear and I'm forced to act healthy and well-rested.

"She looks better," smiles Jem. "How'd you do it?"

"Rune," I reply. "But it fades quickly. Clary taught it to me." Jem nods and takes my on the spot made up lie.

Tessa shivers. At least we know she's alive and awake. Her eyes flutter open. They look different than to how they were yesterday. Last night they were dark and almost fully black. Today, they seem to be lighter in shade and less… striking. Maybe that's just me and it was night time and now it's day so I can't tell the difference, but I'll hold onto it.

"Where am I?" she asks innocently.

"Magnus's place. Are you all right?" asks Jem concerned. Tessa attempts to sit up and he helps her.

"I am. I just… What happened last night? I was at a club and I remember seeing you all but… what happened? How did I get here?" she mumbles quietly thought we all can hear through the silence. Her innocence is more evident unlike last night were she was going all hellhound on us.

"We were told that you joined Jonathan voluntarily," says Jem first. "Is that true?"

"Yes." I can see right through that lie. I have that very same expression when I lie. Twinkling eyes that are so still that it looks like a rock. Not blinking at all. A stiffness goes throughout her body and she looks at Jem intently to make him believe she is telling the truth. That is exactly how I lie.

"You… you also said you love him. Is that true too?" Tess looks shocked at that, pain flashing through her eyes. I feel like I'm the only one who can see it because no one makes any observations. They just listen to her voice.

"Yes."

Why is she lying?

Was that okay? not worth the wait for sure. At least it's something!
