"It's kind of funny how we all aimed for the nuts," Usopp released a shaky laugh as he clambered on Robin's fleshy ladder, jumping on the deck of Going Merry.
"Yeah," Ace agreed. Luffy frowned.
"Nuts?"
"Balls," Zoro added. Luffy scowled harder in confusion.
"Jewels of gold," Sabo said.
"Ohhh! Jewels of gold!" Luffy bounced up and down. The other trio exchanged glances.
Jewels of gold?
"Sabo, can you see a note with the key?" Robin interjected.
"A note?" Sabo glanced down at the key grasped between his fingers. "Oh, yeah, here it is." He unscrewed the fancy handle at the end of the key and prized the thin paper out from the barrel of the key.
"Oh, sweet." Sanji whistled in appreciation. Robin leaned over Sabo, reading the note with far quicker accuracy and more speed than any of the younger members could.
"It's a poem."
Can you escape the shark?
Hark! The silent footsteps
Of the shadow draw near
Blood drips from the frozen heart
Of the icy bear
Watch out for the little fox
Which snatches your comrades dear
Or shall they be eaten?
By the glutton of the seas
But do not fear!
Keep to the light
The beam of hope
To unlock
The glimmers
The sparkles
The treasures
As it gathers around your feet
Like the halo
Of the straw hat"Ooookay," Ace drawled, frowning at the paper.
"It kind of makes sense," Sabo murmured.
"Straw hat!" Luffy prodded his grimy finger onto the thin paper. Sanji made a noise of disapproval at the mark on the poem.
"Bear?" Zoro frowned.
"Is that Bepo?" Sanji wondered.
"Really?" Luffy grinned. "We're going to see him again?"
"So, I'm guessing all these animals are actually teams?" Robin said, scanning the page once more.
"Who would the shark be?" Sabo asked.
"Arlong, obviously," Ace sighed. "What a pain."
"A shadow?" Usopp shivered.
"Rob Lucci," Robin muttered darkly.
"Blood drips from the frozen heart of the icy bear? What the heck?" Sabo sputtered.
"Is Bepo dying? We have to save him!" Luffy gasped.
"No, no." Robin giggled. "I think it's Law."
"What?"
"The frozen heart," Robin repeated. "Have you ever seen Law's power?" They all shook their heads at her. "He can cut up people and they'll stay alive." She paused, and looked at their blank faces before explaining further. "So he can take their hearts out in a little box of jelly."
"That's scary!" Usopp shrieked. "What kind of psycho does that?!"
"Oh!" Luffy lit up with an idea. "So I can see my own heart?"
"Yup." Robin nodded.
"No, Luffy, don't do it," Usopp pleaded, clinging onto the rubberman's arm. "It's a trap!"
"Who's the little fox?" Ace asked.
"I don't know," Robin replied.
"How about the glutton?" Ace scratched his cheek.
"What does glutton mean?" Luffy interjected.
"Someone who is greedy," Robin explained.
"Greedy…"
"Like, if a person has a bunch of meat and doesn't want to share it with other people even though he can't finish it." The others nodded along with Sanji's explanation.
"Is there a person if your class that eats a lot?" Sanji asked Luffy. The black haired urchin hummed as he thought.
"Hmm, maybe."
"Who does Smoker tell off for eating all the time?" Zoro helped.
"Me!" Luffy said proudly. They groaned.
"Who else?"
"Erm, this girl? Boney?"
"Boney?" Sanji glanced at the others at the peculiar name. "Are you sure?"
"Well, maybe…"
"Bonney?" Zoro scowled. "She's annoying."
"Don't call a lady annoying!" Sanji swung a kick, which the swordsman ducked under. Metal rung as Zoro unsheathed his sword.
"You stu-"
"Mor-"
"Idio-"
"So, it looks like Arlong, Lucci, Law and Bepo, Bonney and a 'fox' are in the Sea Hunt," Robin summed up over the yelled insults as Zoro and Sanji fought.
"Yeah." Ace looked over the paper in Sabo's hands. "Is there anything else meant to be in there? A clue or something?" Robin looked at the later segments of the poem.
"Keep to the light, the beam of hope. Maybe that's the sun?" Sabo offered.
"To unlock the glimmers, the sparkles, the treasures…" Robin trailed off. "Unlock…"
"The key?" Sanji piped up in the midst of his fighting. "Oomph!" He grunted as Zoro knocked the hilt into his ribs.
"The key! Sabo, take a look." Sabo grunted, peering at the key.
"I don't really see what else it can do."
"Let me see!" Luffy's hands knocked into Sabo's.
"Hey- Luffy!" The key skidded across the wooden deck.
"Get it!" Ace yelled, heart leaping into his throat. They ran, stomping in an attempt to jam the key under their shoes.
"Ouch!"
"Sorry Robin!" Luffy grinned apologetically as he placed a misaimed step on one of her hands that sprouted on the deck. The key continued to slide as the key tumbled out of the hand.
"Luffy you idiot!"
"Get the key!"
"It's going to fall-"
"Oh shit!"
They stopped at the edge of the ship, gaping at the twinkle of the key before splashing into the sea. Sanji cursed, kicking off his shoes and diving off the edge. A bigger splash followed.
"Sanji!" Luffy lifted himself off the railings before squawking as a jerk to his shirt landed him flat on his back.
"You idiot! You'll drown!" Ace knocked the top of Luffy's head.
"But Sanji-"
"Can swim better than you! He'll be fine!"
"What if he's eaten by sharks?" Usopp shrieked, adding to the fray.
"If he was eaten, there'd be blood in the water," Robin added mildly.
"That's scary!" Usopp's face turned grey. Ace laughed. They turned their attention back to the water as they heard gasping and splashing.
"Did you find it Sanji?" Ace called. Sanji grinned, holding up the key. He peered closer, eyebrows drawing in a frown.
"Sanji?"
"There's a… light?"
"He's dying!" Usopp fell to his knees.
"What do you mean light?" Robin asked.
"From the key." Sanji waved the key. "Lower the ladder and I'll show you."
"Oh."
"Oh my."
"Ohhh!"
"That's so cool!"
"It's like a compass." Ace grinned as they turned the key around, watching as the beam of light remained fixated on a distant point.
"Keep to the light…" Robin repeated.
"Let's keep sailing in that direction then!"
"Uh, Ace, what's with all these red lights?" Usopp shivered in his boots as he glanced at the red lights that surrounded the ship in a square on the sea.
"I think we're in a battle."
"Battle?!"
"I think there had been a ship in here waiting for another to come along." Ace glanced at Usopp. "How come you don't know about it? It's a one versus one battle of ships."
"Is there meant to be a manual? A rulebook?"
"Well, it just means we're going to be fighting."
"Who?"
"I don't know. We'll just wait until-"
"Uwah!" The ship tilted violently as the ship bumped into an invisible force.
"What the hell?" Ace's skin crawled as he heard crunching underneath the ship.
"It's from under!" Sanji ran to the edge of the deck.
"Don't jump in!" Sabo grabbed the blonde. "If they're fishmen, then it's their territory right?"
"But if we don't they'll just tear this ship apart!" Sanji struggled furiously.
"Luffy, take Zoro and bazooka yourselves to Arlong's ship!" Ace yelled, pointed to the approaching ship emerging from the glare of red lights.
"No need for that. Cies fleur!" Robin crossed her hands and a swarmed of limbs connected the two ships together. "Go!" Ace grabbed his steel pipe and lead the party to the enemies' ship.
