It was hard. Maybe it was too hard. Maybe nothing was worth the effort.
After being married for a year and a half, Victoire felt as though she and Neville had reached an impasse. Things felt so routine. Everything in the house was in its place. Neville still buttoned his sweaters the same way (skipping the second-to-last button). Victoire still parted her hair the same way (not centered—just a little to the left).
Was this marriage? Where was the excitement? Everyone said that marriage was "the next big adventure," but Victoire didn't agree. Adventures had a group of heroes and heroines going together to the same places. But Victoire felt as though she was descending some high mountain while Neville was ascending it.
How could they fix that? Victoire couldn't fix it alone. She had to know that Neville wanted the same. So she stopped analyzing and just asked him.
