Now on with the story...
Things had been different since Amy and Rory had stopped traveling in the TARDIS five years ago. One of the major things being Lexi and The Doctor becoming an 'official' couple. She had decided to stay with The Doctor when she had figured out that being with him was what she wanted and was meant to do. Amy and Rory knew that, though. They understood. The most shocking part of it all was the thing that had happened to The Doctor and Lexi about a year or so ago. The Doctor had asked Lexi to marry him. She undoubtedly said yes. It really was a beautiful ring he had given her. A diamond with TARDIS blue sapphires on either side. They agreed that waiting to actually get married was probably a good thing. There were plenty of worlds that needed exploring and saving. A wedding could wait. Besides, she would want her sister to be there. The thing was though, they hadn't exactly told Amy and Rory that they were engaged. In fact, they hadn't even dropped in on them at all since they stopped traveling.
"So, where are we off to now?" Lexi asked coming down the stairs of the console room.
"I don't know. Where do you want to go?" The Doctor asked coming up to Lexi and giving her a quick kiss on the lips.
"Hmm,... Surprise me. Haven't put the TARDIS on random in awhile." Lexi replied sitting down in the jump seat.
"You got it!" The Doctor happily went around the console pushing a button here and then flipping a lever there. The TARDIS started shaking a bit violently, causing The Doctor to loose his footing and fall on his back.
"Ahhhhh!" Lexi cried as she was thrown from the jump seat, landing on her stomach right next to The Doctor. The TARDIS's rumbling stopped as they had landed somewhere.
"You ok?" The Doctor asked as he got up and gave her a hand to stand up.
"Yeah."
"Ok then. Let's see where we are!" The Doctor grabbed Lexi's hand and they ran towards the door. The Doctor popped his head out first.
"Rory!" The Doctor said as he hopped out of the TARDIS causing a stone from the retaining wall of a small garden to fall.
"Doctor!" Rory greeted happily.
"I've crushed your flowers."
"Oh, Amy will kill you." Rory replied not so seriously. Apparently he had a ponytail now.
"Ahem..." Lexi stepped out of the TARDIS and walked over to The Doctor and Rory
"Oh my goodness, Lexi!" Rory greeted giving a tight hug to Lexi.
"It's good to see you!" Lexi said pulling away. "Where's Amy?"
"She'll need a bit longer."
"Whenever you're ready, Amy." The Doctor called in the direction of the house. Amy walked out revealing that she was really really pregnant. "Oh! You've swallowed a planet." The Doctor rested a hand on her stomach.
"I believe she's pregnant, Doctor." Lexi said coming up and resting a hand on Amy's stomach herself.
"You're huge!" The Doctor exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm pregnant." Amy confirmed.
"Hello again, sis." Lexi embraced Amy in a hug.
"It's good to see you again... AND what is this?!" Amy backed away and held up her sister's left hand examining the ring. Rory walked over to take a look himself.
"Well..." Lexi glanced over at The Doctor as if for him to say something.
"Come on, you two know what an engagement ring looks like." The Doctor replied grinning, putting an arm around Lexi's waist and pulling her close.
"This is great news! So happy for the both of you." Amy said looking back and forth between Lexi and The Doctor.
"Ah, and look at you. When worlds collide."
"Doctor, I'm pregnant." Amy was trying to get the thought across to him. He just wasn't quite getting it yet.
"Oh, look at you both. Five years later and you haven't changed a bit. Apart from age... and size."
"It's good to see you, Doctor."
"Are you pregnant?" The Doctor finally asked Amy.
Lexi and Amy just shook their heads and went inside. The Doctor, clapped Rory on the shoulder before they both followed.
Upper Leadworth...
The Doctor and Lexi were in the middle of Amy and Rory walking down a village lane.
"Ah, Leadworth. Vibrant as ever." The Doctor said taking in his surroundings.
"It's Upper Leadworth, actually. We've gone slightly upmarket." Rory corrected.
"Where is everyone? Lower Leadworth is usually more busy than this." Lexi commented.
"This is busy... OK, it's quiet, but it's really restful and healthy. Loads of people here live well into their 90s."
"Well, don't let that get you down." The Doctor said as if that was a bad thing.
"It's not getting me down." Amy informed.
They all came up to a bench. Lexi sat on the arm next to Rory, and The Doctor sat in the middle of Amy and Rory.
"We wanted to see how you were. I don't just abandon people when they leave the TARDIS, especially if their sister becomes my fiancé. This Time Lord's for life. You don't get rid of your sister and your old pal The Doctor so easily."
"You two came here by mistake, didn't you?" Amy asked knowingly.
"Yeah, bit of a mistake." Lexi said nonchalantly.
"But look, what a result. Look at this... bench. What a nice bench. What will they think of next?"
The four of them sat there, bored, with nothing to say.
"So. What do you do around here to stave off the, you know..." The Doctor started.
"Boredom?"
"Self harm." The Doctor said at the same time as Amy.
"We relax… We live, we listen to the birds." Rory explained.
A little bit of snow began to fall.
"Yeah, see, birds. Those are nice."
"We didn't get time to listen to birdsong back in the TARDIS days." Lexi said holding out the palm of her hand to catch snowflakes.
All of a sudden, the birdsong started to get louder.
"Oh, blimey. My head's a bit, ooh..." The Doctor held a hand to his head. "No, you're right, there wasn't a lot of time for birdsong back in the good... old... days."
Everyone started to feel sleepy. Amy, Rory and The Doctor's heads slumped forward. Lexi started to loose her balance on the arm of the bench as the sleep overtook her...
Inside the TARDIS...
The Doctor woke up on the floor.
"What? No, yes, sorry, what?" The Doctor ran up the stairs to console. He saw Lexi wake up on the jump seat. She had a book in her lap. She must of drifted off while reading. She got up and sat the book in the seat. She looked at her left hand for a second and just shook her head. Amy and Rory came and met them at the console.
"Oh, you're OK. Oh, thank God. I had a terrible nightmare about you three. That was scary. Don't ask, you don't want to know. You're safe now." The Doctor gave Amy and Lexi a hug almost as if to make sure they were actually there.
"Oh, Ok." They exclaimed out of surprise.
"That's what counts. Blimey, never dropped off like that before. Well, never, really. I'm getting on a bit, you see. Don't let the cool gear fool you. Now, what's wrong with the console?" The Doctor went around and examined the console. "Red flashing lights... I bet they mean something."
"Doctor, I also had a kind of dream thing." Rory commented as a matter of fact.
"Yeah, so did I." Amy agreed.
"Me too." Lexi also agreed looking at them with surprise.
"Not a nightmare, though, just... we were married." Rory said looking at Amy.
"Yeah, in a little village."
The Doctor looked at them surprised.
"A sweet little village, and you were pregnant."
"Yeah, I was huge. I was a boat."
The Doctor walked up behind Rory and tugged on his hoodie to if there was a ponytail or something.
"So you had the same dream, then? Exactly the same dream?"
"Are you calling me a boat?"
"And Doctor, you and Lexi were visiting."
The Doctor held open Amy's jacket to see if she maybe had a pregnant belly.
"Yeah, yeah, you came to our cottage. And you and Lexi were engaged."
The Doctor grabbed Lexi's left hand and held it up in front of his face to see if there was a ring there. Which, there was not. He then let it go, letting it return to Lexi's side.
"How can we have had the same dream? It doesn't make sense." Lexi asked shaking her head in confusion.
"And you had a nightmare about us. What happened to us in the nightmare?" Amy asked.
"It was similar, in some aspects." The Doctor answered quickly.
"Which aspects?" Rory asked.
"Yes, which aspects exactly, Doctor?" Lexi asked intently.
"Well,… all of them."
"You had the same dream." Amy stated.
"Basically."
"You said it was a nightmare." Rory asked more in a question then in a statement.
"Did I say nightmare? No. More of the really good… mare. Look, it doesn't matter. We all had some kind of psychic episode. We probably jumped a time track." The familiar birdsong started up again. "Forget it, we're back to reality now."
"Doctor, if we're back to reality how come I can still hear birds?" Lexi asked nervously.
"Yeah, the same birds. The same one we heard in the..."
Upper Leadworth...
Everyone jerked awake. Lexi sat up. She had fallen to the ground.
"... dream." Rory finished. He and The Doctor had their heads together. He pulled away in embarrassment. "Oh. Sorry. Nodded off, stupid. God, I must be overdoing it. I was dreaming we were back on the TARDIS." The Doctor got up and Rory looked between Amy and Lexi. "You two had the same dream, didn't you?"
"Back in the TARDIS." Amy stated.
"Weren't we just saying the same thing?" Lexi asked standing up. She pulled a leaf from her hair and let it slowly glide back down to the ground.
"But we thought this was the dream." Rory pointed out.
The Doctor was just a few feet away. He picked up a small stone from the path and examined it. He threw it back down to the ground.
"I think so. Why do dreams fade so quickly?" Amy asked standing up and holding her belly.
"Doctor, what is going on?" Rory asked walking over to The Doctor.
"Is this because of you? Is this some Time Lord thing because you've shown up again?"
The Doctor quickly walked over to Lexi and looked her straight in the eyes. "Listen to me. Trust nothing. From now on, trust nothing you see, hear or feel." The Doctor held up her left hand and pointed at her engagement ring.
"But we're awake now," Rory pointed out.
"You thought you were awake on the TARDIS too."
"But we're home." Amy said taking a look around.
"Yeah. You're home. You're also dreaming." The Doctor took hold of Lexi's hand and started circling around Amy and Rory while looking at everything around them. "Trouble is, Rory, Amy, Lexi, which is which? Are we flashing forwards... or backwards? Hold on tight." The Doctor stopped and then dragged Lexi along with in between Amy and Rory, separating them. "This is going to be a tricky one." The Doctor had this smirk on his face that Lexi just new was the one when he was ready for a challenge.
