Chapter 21: Weekend Embarassment

Roy sat in the living room of his mother's home with his head leaned against the back of the couch. His mother had taken Eden to get her a bath, stating that it would help her relax after being the car for such a long time. He knew that she would have a lot of questions about regarding Eden as soon as she got back downstairs. His mind was racing with an argument. Part of him told him that introducing Eden to his mom was a good idea and the other, a smaller part, told him it was a very bad idea. Sighing, he ran his hands through his hair before sitting up when he heard footsteps nearing him. When he turned to look at the archway leading out into the hallway, he saw his mother standing there with an unreadable look on her face.

"You don't call me or visit me for over two years," she started with her arms crossed over her chest. "I only get a letter every once in a while letting me know that you're still alive. Then I get a call from you that you are coming to visit and you show up with a pregnant woman. That's the Fullmetal Alchemist, isn't it, too? What's going on? Did you...?"

"It's a long story, mom," he said with a shake of the head. "Sit down, please."

Daphne watched him for a moment as he leaned against the arm the couch before making her way to sit next to him.

"First off, yes that is the Fullmetal Alchemist," he started off as he closed his eyes. "No, it isn't mine. She's been through a lot in the last few years."

"How far along is she?"

"About 6 months now, I believe."

"She's the one you used to tell me about," she said, nodding. "Where is her brother?"

"Alphonse is in Risembol with his wife and kids," he explained. "When they discharged Eden from the hospital I offered to watch over her since they have the kids to worry about."

"Are you two dating then?" She asked with a small smile on her face.

"Mom! Stop, please." He nearly yelled but managed to keep it down. "We aren't dating. I've already told her how I feel pretty much. Besides, right now I have to worry about her being in danger."

"Danger?" Daphne's eyebrow rose and concern covered her face.

Nodding, Roy sat up and turned to look at his mom. "Look, Eden was missing for a little more than two years. The man that took her is still out there and we are doing our best to find him."

"Poor dear," she replied, shaking her head slightly.

"I brought her here because she's been cooped up at my house or with Gracia since I am stuck at work a lot," Roy said, glancing at the doorway when he heard a door close from upstairs. "I want her to be able to relax and enjoy herself for a while. We just need some time for the two of us."

"You'll have plenty of time for that," Daphne said as she stood when she saw Eden at the bottom of the stairs. "I had the cabin by the old pond readied for you two. It's not that far from the house but it'll give you enough privacy." She moved over and put her arm around Eden's shoulder and led her into the living room. "Have a seat dear, I'll make you some tea before you two go off to get comfortable in the cabin."

Eden took her seat with a confused look on her face as the woman walked away. She turned to Roy. "We aren't staying here?"

"We are but we aren't," he replied, leaning forward and giving her a smile. "This is mom's house and behind here is a cabin by the old pond that we used to swim in when I was little and next to that dad had built. We'll be staying there for the weekend."

"Your mom seems nice," Eden said as she scooted back on the couch.

"She is, bugs me a lot for not calling her or visiting her enough," he stated before standing and stretching.

"You only get one mom so you should treat her better," she replied, giving him a bit of a glare.

"Yea, you two are going to get along too well," he said to himself as he sat back down, this time a bit closer to her with his arm resting on the couch behind her. "I have a bit of an excuse for the last few years."

"Uh-huh, you aren't blaming this on me, Mustang," she said as she crossed her arms over her chest and sticking her tongue out at him.

"No, I'm blaming Illun for that."

A moment of silence stretched between the two before Eden shifted a bit so that the back of her head was slightly touching Roy's arm. There was a faint smile on her face as she moved her arms to play with the hem of her shirt.

"Did you tell her?" Eden asked, playing with the hem of her shirt.

"Only the basics," was his reply. "Right now I just need you to be relaxing and not worrying about things."

"Roy…"

"No, Eden, this weekend is about us and getting to spend time together relaxing," he said, looking down at her and as soon as he did he wished he hadn't. The golden eyes that had been so dead weeks ago when he had found her were now full of life. There was a small sparkle in her eyes when his locked onto hers. There was a clearing of a throat that managed to get his attention pulled away from Eden.

Smiling, Daphne walked over and sat a tray on the coffee table in front of the two before taking her seat. She glanced at the two on the couch and the smile on her face stayed the same but the one in her mind grew twice its size. A blush could be seen on her son's face and a little bit of red was showing on Eden's cheeks.

"You'll have plenty of time to make eyes at each other when I am not around," she said as she moved to place the mugs in front of Roy and Eden without looking up at them.

Eden's jaw dropped and her eyes widened as she stared at Roy's mom. Her face was now completely flushed beyond her control.

"Will you please stop that, mom," Roy nearly whined as he leaned forward and picked up his and Eden's mug. "Here, Eden, drink this."

Slowly, she raised her hands and took the offered mug before shaking herself out of the daze and taking a sip.

"I am your mother, Roy, I am allowed to embarrass you whenever I want," Daphne stated as she leaned back with her own mug in her hands.

"What about Eden?"

"Well, if she's known you for as long as you claim then I am sure that she can handle herself," was his mother's matter-of-fact reply.

The three talked for a while before the tea was finished and Roy had stood to take the bags to the cabin. He left Eden in the house with his mother.

"Eden?"

"What?" She looked up from her lap and watched as Daphne moved from her chair to sit next to her.

"Roy has told me many things about you," she explained as she took Eden's hand in her own. "I cannot imagine what you are going through right now but please know that even if he doesn't talk to me often I am here for you if you ever need anything. He might not be that smart at times but I know he truly does care about you and he will do everything he can to help you and keep you safe."

"Thank you."

"Anytime," the older woman said as she brought her in for a hug. "Let's you to the cabin before my son comes back for you."

Nodding, Eden allowed her to help her from the couch and out of the back door. Once she was outside, Eden stopped and gasped. Off in the distance a short ways was a lard pond that had a few benches lining the banks and different bushes every so often with different colored flowers blossoming. The stone walkway to the cabin was beautifully laid and lined with small colorful flowers. It looked like something one would think up in a dream. This amount of beauty wasn't something that Eden had ever thought she would ever see. She looked up at Daphne and saw a small smile on the woman's face.

"Roy's father and I put this together a long time ago," she explained as they started off toward the cabin. "He was always into making me happy and I wanted a beautiful place to live. This was the last thing that he gave me before his passing. Every time I come into the garden to read or drink tea I think of him."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be, dear, there's a lot of his father in Roy so when I see it makes me happy," she replied with a nod. "I'm proud of my son and I know his father would be, too."

When they reached the porch of the cabin, Roy was just leaving the door to come back for them.

"I would've come back for her, mom," he stated as he stepped off the porch to help Eden up the few steps.

"I'm not some old lady, son," she said as she followed them to the door. "Now, remember, Roy, that there are plenty of extra blankets and such in the house if you need anything else. I had the fridge stocked with a few things for you guys so that you don't have to worry about shopping or anything. Please enjoy yourselves."

"Thank you, Daphne," Eden said with a smile and nod.

"It's nothing." She smiled at them and turned to leave. "Sleep well tonight."

Eden and Roy watched as she made her way back to the main house before turning and entering the small cabin. The cabin was a one floor building that had a small living room in the front of it and a kitchen and bathroom in the back. It was a simple and modest décor inside and that gave it a homey feel. A smile covered her face as she made her way to the bookshelf that was in the living room and found a few pictures. It looked like pictures of Roy when he was much younger and his parents. The man in the back, she assumed was Roy's father as he looked so similar to the man that she was with now.

"Roy?" She called out when she turned around to find that there was no one else in the living room with her. Raising an eyebrow, she moved down the small hallway and soon bumped into his back. "Roy? Why are you standing in the middle of the hallway?"

"You girls are going to be the death of me, I swear," he said as he glanced down at her before moving through the open door to the bedroom.

Confused, Eden followed him into the room and understood what he meant, as least when it came to his mother. Pushed against the far wall in the bedroom was a single queen sized bed. Chuckling nervously, she looked up at Roy, who was now leaning against the wall just inside the doorway. Looking back to the bed, Eden took a deep breath and wrapped her arms around her stomach.

"You know," she said, turning back to him. "We could always share. It's just for the weekend, after all."

"I can sleep on the couch," he said as he pushed himself off of the wall.

"No…" She grabbed his hand as he turned to leave. "Please… Let's share."
