There's Nothing To Forgive
Dudley Dursley gulped nervously as he stood in front of his cousins front door wondering just what he was doing here. As his hands tightened around the bags that he was loaded down with his mind suddenly started to work again.
He had come to his cousin's home to give him some of the many Christmas gifts that he had not received over the many years of living with him and his parents.
'Well here goes nothing' Dudley thought with a gulp as he carefully rang the door bell being careful of the bags in his hand 'I just hope that no one decides to give me a pig's tail for turning up so close to Christmas.'
Trying not to let his nerves show Dudley pulled himself together and waited for the door in front of him to be answered. His heart felt like it was going to jump out of his chest as he stared at the elegantly painted black door with the golden metal number 23 screwed onto the door.
As a soft 'coming!' came to Dudley's ears Dudley could not help but to let out a nervous gulp of fear as his grip held tightly onto his bags containing the precious Christmas gifts. He could do this, he just had to, he had several years to make up for after all.
As if it happened in slow motion Dudley watched nervously as the golden door handle turned and the door was pushed open to revile his cousin holding a sleeping baby protectively in his arms. As Dudley looked at his cousin of the first time in five years he found that his once thin fragile looking cousin with knobbly knees to be gone and in his place stood a strong powerful, and most importantly, a happy man.
"Dudley!" Harry cried out as Dudley watched unexpected happiness to come to his cousin's eyes, "What are you doing here? I was planning on going to visit you myself tomorrow, come on it, it is cold outside and-"
"Happy Christmas Harry!" Dudley blurted out as he held out the bags towards his cousin, "Happy Christmas, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. Sorry about your Christmas gifts being so late but-"
"Dudley," Harry's firm strong voice said as he cut the panicking Dudley off.
"Yes?" Dudley asked nervously as he looked up into his cousins eyes only to find compassion, kindness and understanding in Harry's eyes.
"Come inside cousin," Harry said with a soft smile as he stepped aside allowing Dudley to enter his home, "Come inside and warm up, you'll catch your death of cold if you stay standing outside like that for much longer."
