Chapter 21 In Between The Ball
Rosealeana POV
After I watched my mother sing, I took Amnarosa, Dimflame, and Lionstar back to our den to explain to them who Grizabella is. I also decided that my sisters should also tell their parts to this story as well, so I reached out with my mind and told both of them.
"Dem, Bomba please come over to my den and bring Scarlet and Jemima, I think it's time to tell them about our parents in detail" I said to my sisters through my mind
Sure enough a few minutes later they were sitting down next to me in the living-room of my den on the many cushions that I had made into a makeshift couch, while Scarlet, Amnarosa, and Jemima were sitting across from us in that order (like they did when they were either listening to a story or, watching me put on a show for them when they were little) with Lionstar and Dimflame on either side of them.
"Ok so, who wants to go first" I asked my sisters
"I think that one of us should talk while the others add in other details as we go" said Demeter
"That sounds good to me" I said. Then we looked at Bomba who hadn't answered yet
"Sure whatever" said Bombalurina
"So why are we here?" asked Scarlet voicing the question all her cousins wanted to ask
"we are here to tell you about our parents and our past" I said, and when I had said "our parents" I could see my sisters visibly wince
"With a time limit of course" said Demeter
"Well where should we start?" asked Bomba ignoring her statement
"Probably when we started to remember" I said
"That sounds good to me" said Bombalurina
"Ok then" I said "The first thing that I remember is our mother looking at us" I said trying to be silly
"That's what every cat remembers first" said Bomba as she rolled her eyes and sharpened her claws with an old nail filer
"How about this. Once upon a time a queen named Grizabella left the Jellicle Junkyard to become famous" I said
"Wait, hold on a second why are you talking about Grizabella" asked Scarlet
"You'll find out later" said Bomba
"But when Grizabella left, she forgot that she was horrible at hunting, so because of this she wasn't getting herself enough food" said Demeter who then looked at Bomba as if to silently say "your turn"
"One day when she was stalking a squirrel (which she successfully caught) another cat was also stalking the same squirrel, so when she caught her prey the other cat started arguing with her over who's kill it was" said Bomba
"What did the other cat look like?" asked Jemima from her place next to Amnarosa
I looked at my sisters and they nodded after a moment, so I got up from the couch and I went over to the part of the den that I share with Victor, went over to the couch cushion that I used as a safe and unzipped it, reached my paw/hand in and pulled out an old photo album from when Dem, Bomba, and I were kittens. I turned the pages until I found a good picture of my father and gently touched the picture, then I got up and took the album out to the living-room where Bomba and Dem were describing our father to our kittens.
"He acted like a tough Tom sometimes, but he was very loving and gentile with the ones that he loved" said Demeter with tears in her eyes
"He was also very protective of us" I said as I sat back down again and showed the young queens and kittens the picture of Firestripe which had been taken just before they had discovered my powers, it showed him with his three favorite and only daughters cuddling with him while taking a nap, with Demeter on his chest, Bomba near his head, and me under his arm. (his patterning resembles all of us in some ways; we almost blend in to his fur with our chosen resting spots)
"Is that him" asked Lionstar
"Yes, Yes it is" I answered my son looking him in the eyes (behavior wise Lionstar is quite a lot like Firestripe sometimes)
"Who are those three?" asked Dimflame
"That was us when we were very little" said Bomba
"We all inherited most of our coloring from him" I said.
It was true, because the only one who had inherited any color from our mother was Bomba who had inherited some thin gray stripes that at first glance weren't very noticeable. But I do think that Amnarosa inherited her few stripes of gray through me, even though I don't have any.
"Strong genes I guess" I thought to myself
"So anyway, after a while Firestripe and Grizabella fell in love and had three kittens" said Demeter
"And yes Jemima that was the three of us" I said to my nice who had raised her paw and then put it down when I answered
"One day some stray tom named Dark came to the ally that we were living in at the time and demanded that Firestripe join him for "stealing his territory", or giving him the three of us as payment for his "stolen prey", but Firestripe refused and Dark attacked him." I said trying to remember the story
"Then you went over to the den entrance and set him on fire and yelled "NO TOUCHY MY DADDY" and then he ran away yelling that he would be back, and then we came to the yard" said Demeter
"We lived happily, until our early teenage years" said Bomba
"What happened?" asked Dimflame
"Well one day in the late spring" I started
Flashback/or not
Firestripe was taking his mate and daughters for a walk when suddenly Dark, the tom that had attacked Firestripe all that time ago appeared out of nowhere
"Well, well, well, what do we have here boys? Returning to the spot that you once occupied?" said Dark
"Look Dark we are just passing through and NOT staying" Firestripe mewed
"It's Darkcloud Now! And you still owe me from last time, give me your kittens" said the newly proclaimed Darkcloud
"Over my dead body!" yelled Firestripe as he ignited his paws with fire (Firestripe found that over time he could also use fire like his daughter)
"Then you have chosen war. Is your daughter going to save you again? Because she'll be busy" and with that Darkcloud attacked Firestripe while his "friends" attacked the three sisters
"Mom climb up that tree" said Rosealeana as she held off a tom by blasting him away with her fire
"I can't, I don't know how" said Grizabella
Thinking fast Rosealeana teleported her mother to the safety of the tree. Then Rosealeana extended her claws and joined the battle with her sisters.
There was a lot of swiping, slashing, and yowling going on and when Demeter got swiped out of the way both her sisters rushed to defend her and started kicking some serious tail. Rosealeana ignited her paws with fire and was blasting some of the toms away while Bombalurina had found an old discarded whiffle bat and was whacking the crud out of their enemies, at one point Rosealeana blasted a tom in Bomba's direction and she hit him unconscious as he flew several feet away. When they got to their sister and knocked out the huge tom that was looming over her, Rosealeana then healed any wounds while Bomba kept the toms at bay with her bat. When Rosealeana was done she told Demeter
"Go protect mom, here this should help you" said Rosealeana who then handed Demeter a dog tag like item with a small chain to put it on
"I enchanted it to protect whoever wears it, now go" she said as she put it around her sister's neck
Demeter then went and guarded the tree where her mother was taking cover, whenever one of the toms hit her she wasn't harmed but instead sparks came off of her gold pelt and hurt her attackers instead.
Firestripe was still fighting against Darkcloud with his whole being, he was trying to knock Darkcloud out or at least injure him enough so that Firestripe could get his family away from this area and back to the Junkyard where they could hopefully get some help. Darkcloud kept trying to get to Firestripe's daughters so that he could threaten Firestripe.
Finally Bomba and Rosealeana knocked out the last of the toms, or scared them away with Rosealeana's lightning bolts.
"Let's go see if dad needs any help" said Rosealeana who was getting very tired from using her powers more than she was used to, but the adrenaline rushing through her body kept her going
The two sisters quickly headed over to where their father was still fighting Darkcloud.
Firestripe had managed to gain the upper paw, but he was starting to get tired too. Darkcloud lunged at Firestripe and pinned him down, but Rosealeana quickly shocked him with a bolt of lightning stunning him just long enough for Firestripe to kick him off of him. Darkcloud got up and lunged for Firestripe again, but this time Rosealeana intercepted and blasted him to the ground with a well-aimed blast of fire (low heat of course) and once Darkcloud got up he started fighting Firestripe, but this time Rosealeana joined in matching her father blow for blow. At one point Darkcloud was able to swipe Firestripe away and pin Rosealeana down and raised his paw for the final blow.
"You look a lot like your father, you'd make a perfect mate for my son, but it's too bad I'm going to kill you" said Darkcloud as he raised his paw higher, but before he could land the blow Bombalurina hit him in the head with her bat knocking him out, for now.
"Not on my watch Cloudbreath" said Bomba
"Are you girls ok, did he hurt you Rosealeana" asked a worried Firestripe looking over his daughters for any injuries
"No" replied Rosealeana and Bombalurina at the same time
"Catch a fever, crack a rib…" said Firestripe continuing
"I'm mostly fine Daddy, just tired" said Rosealeana
"Ok then; Quick, let's go get your mother and sister and get out of here" said Firestripe as he started limping at a brisk pace with his daughters limping and stumbling behind him. When they got to the tree they helped Grizabella climb down the tree.
"Oh Firestripe I was so worried about you and the kits" said Grizabella slightly relieved "Are you hurt, did you break anything, did you…" said Grizabella until Firestripe interrupted
"We are all mostly fine, Dem took a good amount of damage, but Firerose healed and protected her with an enchanted object" said Firestripe
"We should get back to the yard before they wake up and find us again" said Grizabella
So the family of five left for the Junkyard; once they were in Jellicle territory where they bumped into Deuteronomy and his sons
"Hey Firestripe, where are you off to in such a hurry? What happened to you" asked Deuteronomy
"Long story short Evil cat is back and is trying to take my daughters again, but this time he had a whole group of cats with him" said Firestripe out of breath
"And where do you think you're going Firestripe?" said Darkcloud coming from behind them
"What are you doing on Jellicle Territory!" hissed Munkustrap and Macavity blocking Darkcloud's path
"Move aside kits, I have some business with Firestripe" said Darkcloud menacingly
"Any business that you have with my protector, you have with me" said Deuteronomy
"Very well then; DARKCLAN ATTACK!" yowled Darkcloud and suddenly a bunch of cats attacked them again. Now everyone was fighting, but now with the reinforcements of Macavity, Tugger, Victor, Munkustrap, and Deuteronomy. Darkcloud was fighting Victor and Firestripe, while Deuteronomy was trying to get Grizabella to safety. (The fighting was unfortunately taking place right near a street) Soon Darkcloud was facing Firestripe one on one once again, because Victor was attacked by another tom, Munkustrap and Macavity were fiercely fighting the intruders, while Tugger was guarding his father as best as he could, and the three sisters were guarding their mother from any of the Darkclan cats.
"I'm running out of energy, this needs to stop soon" said Rosealeana sounding worn out
"I know how you feel" replied both of her sisters
"I wish that I still had that bat" said Bomba as she swiped at a tom
"Because you liked whacking the dirt out of them?" asked Rosealeana
"Doy, of course I did" replied Bomba as she swiped at another tom
(While the fighting has been going on Firestripe and Darkcloud have been getting dangerously close to the road)
"Last time Firestripe, pay up!" said Darkcloud
"You don't even own that ally!" Firestripe mewed as he frustrated slashed Darkcloud's chest
Temporary End of Flashback/or not
"Hey girls, it's time for the ball to start soon" said Munkustrap from the entrance to the den
"Ok, we'll be there in a minuet" said Demeter
"Awe man, not a cliff hanger!" said Lionstar to Scarlet
"Think of it this way, now you can anticipate the next time that our mothers tell us more" said Scarlet to her favorite male cousin, this most likely makes Misto a close second
"Exactly" said Amnarosa as she put her arm around her brother and her cousin and best friend
"Come on guys, we don't want to be late" said Scarlet as she walked out the den hand in hand, or paw with her best friend and Lionstar
Rosealeana checked the moon; it was still a little early to go back to the clearing "Time to bite the bullet" she thought
"I'm sorry that I made you do this at such short notice" said Rosealeana as she slowly walked with her sisters back to the main clearing that the Ball was being held at
"It's alright Rose, I just wish I had a little more of a warning" said Demeter as she stopped walking and hugged Rosealeana
"Are you sure?" asked Rosealeana still unsure that her sisters was fine with it
"Positive" said Bomba as she too hugged her sisters
Sorry that it took so long to upload a chapter, I've been busy this summer and I didn't have my laptop because my school took it for the summer and I have finally gotten it back, but I never forgot my stories. I will hopefully be uploading more often now that the school year has started. Please review.
