A-Z of Melizabeth by Fullmetal Pyromaniac

U is for...

Umbrella

Elizabeth had never been particularly lucky. She suffered from a terrible case of Murphy's Law; if something, anything, could go wrong it would definitely happen to her. First of all she'd woken up late, very late, but Elizabeth had taken the liberty of placing her clothes out the night before. It was just a matter of getting into them as quickly as possible. As she'd flung open the curtains expecting sunshine as yesterdays weather forecast had predicted, she was greeted with a wall of rain and dark, heavy clouds. With no time to find something other than a skirt and blouse, that's what her outfit was for school that day. Luckily her family had left before they could see her, and scold her.

The bus pulled in just as she arrived at the stop, freezing and almost soaked to the bone. Her silvery hair dripped, the jacket she'd grabbed only covering her head and barely her blouse. The bus driver gave her a confused look as she flashed her bus pass, and opted to stand instead of sitting and soaking the person next to her.

Diane was waiting for her when she arrived, both had the same registration class. Elizabeth waved sheepishly at her friend, who raised a dark eyebrow. Despite being the same age Diane towered over Elizabeth, perfect for playing sports. Elizabeth however was more suited for the library.

"You look like a drowned rat," Diane commented. Elizabeth groaned in response, using her sleeve to wipe her soaked face. Thank goodness she hadn't put on makeup.

"I know, I was late, and the weather report-"

Diane snorted, "It changed late last night, I'll assume you didn't see it..." Elizabeth glared, "I'll take that you didn't. You want a spare pair of clothes? I have some extra gym stuff..."

Elizabeth waved her away, "No no, it's alright, I'll be fine."

Diane shrugged as the pair walked into registration to take their seats.

*~*~ U is for...~*~*

Elizabeth was not fine.

Not only had she managed to accidentally soak her art project due to her wet hands, and her teacher had yelled at her for it. Weeks of hard work down the drain. Even though she had time to finish it, it would never be as good, and her teacher would still be annoyed.

Then, Elizabeth had reached into her bag whilst in english (after drying her hands in the bathroom) to find the zipper was open slightly and the rain had poured in and managed to saturate her copy of "A Streetcar Named Desire". As she pulled it out her bag, the pages curled and the ink had spready slightly, and it wasn't in a condition to be written on. With a sigh, she placed the slightly sodden book on the table and pulled out a page of paper, ready to take notes.

When she met Diane afterwards, she could tell she looked like shit.

"I still have those gym clothes if you want them," The taller girl offered gently. Elizabeth sighed and shook her head, little droplets of water flew off her fringe, Elizabeth sighed again.

"It's alright, I'm perfectly-"

Before Elizabeth could even finish her sentence, her feet slipped from under her, and she fell onto the hard linoleum of the hallway floor. There was a minute of silence following the bang of her fall, then the corridor erupted into peals of laughter. Never before had Elizabeth wanted to vanish so much before. Soaking, cold, and humiliated, she let herself just sit on the floor, the cold seeping into her. Diane swore, then rushed over to help her friend. Elizabeth looked up briefly as Diane took her arm and helped her up. Blue eyes briefly met with bright green.

Her crush, Meliodas, a well known but not obnoxiously popular student (who she happened to be fairly good friends with) stared at her. His friends laughed the loudest, but he stood. They seemed miles apart to Elizabeth. The thought of him helping rushed through her head, they were friends, weren't they? He didn't even come over to see if she was okay, like he was held in place by the laughter around them. More tears slipped down her face, Diane ushered her away to the school's office, never once letting her look back to the roaring crowd.

*~*~ U is for...~*~*

Fixed with some dry clothes from the lost-and-found, the final bell rang signalling the end of the day. Elizabeth did her best to ignore the sniggers that followed her throughout the day, but it was Meliodas' stare that haunted her. He was supposed to be a friend. Students filed down the steps to the school into the grounds, some heading for the car park, others for the nearest bus stop. Elizabeth took one look at the hammering rain and sighed, sitting on the steps of the school under the shelter. She'd wait until it lightened up, cursing her damn luck for forgetting her umbrella.

Veronica and Margaret both offered to pick her up when they'd finished work, but that was at least an hour away, she'd be better getting the bus. With another sigh Elizabeth leant her head on her arms and watched as the last of the students slowly vanished.

"Hey," Someone cleared their throat behind her. She instantly knew who it was and didn't bother raising her head. Meliodas came into her peripheral vision sitting next to Elizabeth on the stairs. "How're you doing?"

"I'm fine." Elizabeth replied, failing to keep her vow of silence, but still not giving anything away to the person who'd hurt her.

"Not going to let up any time soon, huh?"

"Doesn't seem so."

A few minutes dragged on in silence, a thick air hanging between the two. The rain kept going, Elizabeth checked her phone. She's missed her bus, but another was in ten minutes. Peering at the wall of rain she pondered making a run for it. In the carpark to their left, someone pulled in and beeped the horn. Meliodas sighed and stood.

"This is me," He said, looking at Elizabeth who looked up at him. Her heavy heart sagged further into her chest with shame and regret, she looked forward once again. There was a shuffling sound, Meliodas going through his bag. He thrusted something at her while slinging his bag over his shoulder, an umbrella. His umbrella.

"Take it," He said.

Elizabeth reached out but hesitated, "But Meliodas you need it, it's still pouring out-"

He chuckled, thrusting it forward once again, "Ellie, you worry too much about other people. Take care of yourself for once." He took her hand and wrapped it around the umbrella. "Consider this a sorry for not helping earlier."

The car honked again, and with a final wave, Meliodas took off running quickly through the rain. Elizabeth sat until the car vanished, smiled softly to herself and stood, heading for the bus stop, with Meliodas' umbrella held firmly in her hands. Perhaps she wasn't so unlucky after all...

The End.

A.N. Hello! It's me, ya boy, back again with a lowkey shitty chapter. This one is very obviously based on the Miraculous Ladybug episode, the 'Umbrella scene' which I love! Thank you everyone for the reviews *heart* and the follows, it astounds me how many people are reading this!

So, my life is and has been super busy! I got myself a gf, we broke up :( I had an exam yesterday, and I leave school officially next Friday, how spooky right? I began this when I was...15 I think...maybe 14...I have no clue. But I think I was in 4th year. I begin college in August, which is super cool! But my high school experience isn't over yet, I have a dissertation still to write, folio pieces, and four exams to do, so I might be MIA for a little while until this is all over. I hope you understand...only four ish chapters left, I can't believe it :")

Leave me a review, and thank you to everyone for reading!
