Once In A Blue Moon

Summary: It is said that every blue moon, a change happens to the one who deserves it most. This change will alter the vampire race forever.

Disclaimer: We all know the sad fact that I will never own Vampire Knight

Hey guys! I'm typing this up quickly so I can get this chapter out. I've decided that this will be the last chapter (because I'm lazy) and I will try to make it far longer than the other ones I have so far written; key word try. I do not have much muse for this story anymore but I need to see this to the end.

I will also say that at some point in time I plan on revising the previous chapters so try and match them up so they flow more. So I hope you all have been waiting on the edges of your seats for this. It is the end. Dun dunn dunnnn..!~

[Also, am I the only one having trouble with getting the horizontal line edit to show up? It's only in certain places too. I cannot figure it out. So if you see a "~" anywhere it is because a horizontal line wouldn't show up. Hah.]

A screech filled the air; followed by a thud as someone was forcibly kicked off of a large bed. Kaname looked up sleepily, mild anger in his red orbs from being woken up at such an early hour. Zero sat on rumpled sheets, clinging pieces of it to his naked body, his face pure red. "And what, Zero-kun, has compelled you to launch me off of my own bed this early in the morning?" Kaname decided to throw pleasantries completely out the window to settle for teasing instead, his lips curling upward. Zero tried to glare. He honestly did; but embarrassment overrode any other reaction from him and he cuddled further into the sheets, his face on fire. "You…You!" He garbled his words as Kaname stared at the disheveled and thoroughly embarrassed teen. "I…?" He teased further, enjoying how the others slim body pressed itself into his mattress.

"You ate me!" Zero blurted out, practically screaming. Rising onto his knees Kaname leaned his elbows on the plush mattress, feeling his elbows sink in. He did not do this for the simple fact that Zero's eyes immediately trailed down his own equally naked body. He did not. He would only deny it later. "There are many ways to define eat, Zero-kun, why don't you explain how I 'ate' you?" Zero's blush intensified and his eyes darted away. Bringing himself back up onto the bed, Kaname wrapped himself around the teen. "Is this how I ate you?" He asked softly, his voice whispering as he nibbled on the others neck. The only response he received was a sharp inhale of breath. "Or tell me…did I 'eat' you someplace…else?" Kaname's hands slipped down to the silverette's bottom, lightly sinking his fingers into the flesh as he squeezed.

"Ah.."

Smirking, Kaname allowed his fingers to slip between his young lovers cheeks to trace around his abused entrance before slowly sliding in. "Was it here? Hm?" Kaname whispered silkily, his lips tracing a flushed ear. Zero made a small noise in the back of his throat as the pureblood's fingers filled him; again. "I'll have you know, that I plan on 'eating' you as many times as you allow; over and over again." Zero panted, hanging limply on the brunette, as Kaname's fingers did wicked things to his lower body. The fluids from their escapades of last night helped ease the friction and burn while also causing a lewd squelch, making Zero shudder. Those probing fingers stayed slow and soft until Zero was practically sobbing on his lovers lap, his hips undulating to the tiny thrust of the pureblood's fingers causing sparks behind tear filled violet eyes. "I plan to love on you for as long as I live, and to love you for as long as forever is." Kaname cooed as Zero cried out his release, his body shuddering with tiny but explosive pleasure; coating his insides with liquid fire.

"N-no more…" Zero whispered weakly his body shaking with small jerks and contractions. Kaname hummed softly into his lover's ear as he withdrew his fingers, the now stirred up fluids leaking ever so slowly out of Zero's abused entrance; causing him to shiver as it exited. Kaname placed soft butterfly kisses all over the flushed prefects face, Zero sighing contentedly. Kaname watched as his silver haired lover calmed down, his own needs being forgotten, along with the residue from Zero's release that coated his abdomen. Seconds rolled by as he stared at his young lover. "I had been meaning to ask you last night, but I didn't want to ruin what you had started; I had little resistance in prepping and entering you…had you perhaps done this to yourself before, hm?" Zero froze, and immediately started shaking with anger before throwing the covers over himself.

"You stupid pureblood!" Kaname couldn't contain himself, his teasing causing such an innocent reaction from his lover. "Now, now Zero don't be like this; after what we just did?…" His chuckles reached the silverette's ears, though he didn't even try to hide them, causing Zero to swing out and nail him in the stomache.

"Jerk!"

Rido paced his room; wearing holes into the carpet; figuratively, of course. His anger was rolling off of him in waves. Not only had his damndable nephew taken what had been rightfully his by right of the stones, but he had bedded the feisty silverette he had called his. He had even been barred from his unwilling mate's mind, from all of the conflict running through it. There was no room for him or for the silverette to concentrate on him. Feeling his knuckles crack as he clenched his fists, Rido took a breath before smiling cruelly. He still had an ace up his sleeve.

"The blue moon…" he whispered to himself.

His nephew had exactly one week for the silverette to name the pureblooded prince his, or the silverette would be in the hands of someone he dearly did not want to. Oh yes, those stones contained powerful magick that Rido had cruelly used to his advantage, knowing that Zero would not name the Kuran heir as his lover; giving Rido the perfect opportunity to swoop in and claim him forever. And no matter how much the silverette fought it, he then belonged to Rido; for the rest of his eternal days. Or at least until the cracking facade of the insane man he pretended not to be shattered and he ended the silverette's life before he even got to see the eyes of his child. Rido chuckled darkly as he stared into the night sky.

Careful Kaname, I'm coming for him. And when I do, you will wish that you had made him love you sooner.
~

Zero refused to look at the pureblood, dodging him at every chance, even going out to fully ignore the man who had made himself Zero's "lover." The Day Class was swarming with confusion, wondering if it was indeed possible for the cranky disciplinary committee male to hate the brunette even more than he already did. Oh, if only they knew, Zero scoffed. The Night Class however, found it impossibly amusing as they watched their beloved Kaname-sama dance cautious circles around his irritable lover. Even Yuuki found it adorably endearing how her savior tried to gain the attention of the man he loved. Oh yes, Yuuki knew. She truly knew now from Kaname's earlier confession and from what she saw. From the moment they had both came back to the academy, Zero royally pissed off; but instead of Kaname remaining imposed as ever, she witnessed him trying to soothe the other only to be brushed off with a furious scowl followed by a fierce blush as the other swooped in for a kiss.

She had to intervene before her partner shot the pureblood.

It did ache, knowing both the men she loved, loved one another-well, one refusing to show it-but she was happy for them. And her amusement never ended now that Kaname had found one to love. Though she wondered how the Day Class could still remain so oblivious. Airheads she thought to herself. She tore her eyes away from the Day Class to stare at the silverette, still very obviously ignoring Kaname. His arms were crossed and he stared anywhere but at the pureblood, a dark scowl painted on his face. As Kaname walked by, the Night Class trailing behind him, he spared a longing glance at the one he a unintentionally fallen in love with. Zero was looking the other way, and it made his insides drop a little more. Did Zero regret it? Was that what it was? Had he misread the other all along and now he was left to love someone for his eternal life. Kaname sighed as he continued walking. He was certain that he would love no other, and now the one that he desperately wanted wouldn't even look at him. When Kaname and his band of followers were gone, only a sideways glance from Zero was enough to send the Day Class scattering.

"You should go and talk to him, you know." Yuuki looked at him pointedly. "I refuse." Zero huffed. "And why not?" Yuuki was getting angry now, seeing her adoptive brother acting this way. Zero said nothing, only looking away from her. And with that, Yuuki Cross finally snapped. Her right arm struck out and smacked him right in the ribs, causing the silverette to double over with a gasp. "That fucking hurt!" he hissed. "Well if you would quit being such a sissy and go talk to him we wouldn't be having this conversation!" She hissed back with equal force. "Why won't you go speak to him, Zero?!" This she practically yelled at him.

It was quiet before Zero mumbled a reply. "What was that?" Yuuki's ears strained only to catch the mumble again. "Speak up, dammit, Zero!" She kicked him this time. "Because he keeps doing things to me, alright?!" Zero screeched this back, his cheeks darkening. "He's always touching me, and before I can say anything, he makes me forget it; happy now?" Zero's whispered voice hissed. Yuuki blinked in shock, before a sly smile made itself home on her face. Zero locked eyes with her and his blush intensified. "Just, go talk to him okay, Zero? I'll tell him to keep his hands from wandering." Yuuki walked away without waiting for an answer, now expecting her adoptive brother to do as she asked. Zero scowled at her retreating frame and shoved his hands into his pockets before stomping off.

When Zero opened the door to his dorm he was none too surprised to see Kaname calmly sitting on his bed. Shutting the door Zero leaned against it and made no move to come closer. "Yuuki has already requested that I keep my hands to myself, as she so blatantly threatened." Zero scoffed, but came closer. It was silent for a while before Zero finally spoke. "What are we?" He asked this weakly and Kaname stared at him in confusion. "What is this?" He motioned between the two of them. "I-I won't just be some toy for you. I won't." Zero's voice cracked. Dammit. Kaname stood up. "We're lovers, Zero." Zero's heart stuttered and he once again backed up, hitting the door and he blindly searched for the doorknob in a panic. "I don't believe you."

"And why not Zero? Do you not believe that I am in love with you? Can you not see that I am in love with you?" He asked this quietly, his wine red orbs searching. Zero looked away. "I'm the only one ever stumbling on my feet, and my heart is the only one ever racing. How can you tell me you love me when I never see you do anything but tease me?" Zero whispered, his hand clasping the doorknob. Kaname looked angrily at the other for a second as he stalked over to the one he had fallen for, and Zero flinched. What happened next made him choke back a gasping sob. Kaname gently brought his clasped hand to his chest to splay it there. There, he could feel the pureblood's heart; racing just as fast as his. "My heart races every time I look at you and my knees feel week whenever you speak. I want nothing more than to take you into my arms and never let you go."

Lips grazed over his. "I love you Zero, god only knows how he made this happen, but I'm glad he did." Kaname settled his lips over Zero's for a short but sweet kiss, leaving Zero's cheeks flushed. "And I will wait forever if I have to, to hear you say those words back to me." Hearing that, Zero looked away bashfully; still feeling Kaname's racing heart underneath his fingertips. "Even if that stone may make me do things I don't want to do, would you still love me?" Kaname looked at him with wine orbs full of adoration. "The stone be damned." And with that, Kaname drew his one love in for another kiss.

"Two days left."

Zero broke the kiss with a gasp. "Did…did you hear something?" Zero looked around, scanning his room. All Kaname did was nuzzle his neck, biting at it playfully. "Must be imagining things."

But as soon as Zero uttered those words, he arched forward with a gasp, his body convulsing. All he heard next were the distant cries of Kaname as his eyes rolled back into his head.

[TIME SKIP *Because I'm lazy muaha*]

Zero had not moved for two days and Kaname had not left his side, Yuuki sitting there just as helpless as he. They had barred Cross out after the man had tried to give Zero his blood; and they had had to deal with his constant cries from outside of the room. All they had to go on was how healthy his skin was bathed in the blue moonlit night.

Kaname lurched to his feet. Blue moonlight? Had Zero told him something about this? He couldn't recall. "Perhaps from a book…" Kaname mumbled to himself but that wasn't correct either. But as he stared at the moon, all he could think of was 'unnatural.'

And he was correct because at that moment, Zero's eyes flew open and power rushed around them. Kaname turned just as the other rose from the bed. "Zero?" he questioned softly walking up to him. "You suddenly collapsed. Can you tell us or remember what happened?" Kaname asked again, but as he stared into the others glassy eyes he knew that something was desperately wrong. In a sweeping rush of power silver strands cascaded down Zero's back as his hair lengthened. Both Kaname and Yuuki were left in a state of confusion as Zero slowly; almost hypnotized eyes looked toward the window. Zero walked almost sluggishly to them before they opened on their own. Yuuki made a move to stop him but Kaname quickly held his arm out. "It is like he's sleep walking. It is stressful to wake sleepwalkers Yuuki." He warned her and she looked at him with wide concerned eyes as Zero jumped from the second story only to land gracefully, his long hair flowing gently around him. It seemed like only a second had passed before the silverette broke out into a run.

Rido walked toward his destination with a twisted smirk on his face. He would make his nephew watch as he claimed the one he loved.

"Kaname? What's going on?!" Yuuki was crying now. Her adoptive brother was acting strange and it terrified her. "Yuuki, I need you to stay here." He was rushing his words and he knew he was scaring her more but Zero needed him more than she did right then. "I will bring him back, and then we will tell you what has been happening to Zero these past months." When the little girl he had rescued all those years ago squared her shoulders and nodded at him with determination he bolted into action, his speed as a pureblood gaining on the silverette who almost flitted through the forested area. What Kaname saw next made his heart and feet freeze.

Zero stood there, in the arms of his uncle, who wore a look of victory. It looked sickening next to the silverette's glazed eyes and calm face. "What have you done to him, Rido?" Kaname's calm look was betrayed by the anger in his voice. His shoulders shook with rage. His uncle paid him no heed as he cooed at the silverette, slipping the stone now chained, onto his neck. "Are you ready to finish what has been started, my sweet? All you have to do is say my name." Rido purred at the other. "Yes." Zero's voice didn't sound like Zero. It sounded hollow and void of emotion. "But first, I want you to take care of that pest. I have decided a more befitting punishment for defiling what was mine. He will be killed by the one he loves." Rido's smile was never more sinister than it had been in that moment. Zero turned to look at the other pureblood. This one was familiar. His thoughts cut in, but just as quick as they came they were pushed back by the magick controlling him. Without a word, Zero launched himself at Kaname.

Kaname began to dodge, but after a pained look, he began to attack back hoping to get close enough to talk to his silver haired lover. Zero reeled back at the pained expression on the others face. His expression became confused. "Why do you stare at me like that, using that expression?" Pushing himself through the oppressive aura that was Zero's new strength, he grabbed the other in his arms. Immediately, Zero began to struggle. "Where is my Zero? Where is the one that I fell in love with?" Kaname grasped Zero's face in his hands staring into blank violet orbs. Blank violet eyes widened and his struggles became slack. Rido hissed at that, using his powers to try and force the two apart. Kaname's legs buckled, sending them both to the ground. "Say my name, you little silver haired tramp. Say my name and it shall be complete!" Zero seemed to be struggling; from Kaname's grip, and from Rido's spell trying to force the words from him. Brushing his lips across Zero's he smiled sadly at the other. "Zero I love you, all you need to do is ask for it and it is yours." With that Zero's eyes filled with tears and cloudy became clear violet. Blue moonlight cascaded down them as Zero cried out. "I love you….Kaname!"

In an instant the stone around Zero's neck shattered, falling around them uselessly as the spell became nothing more but whispered words on the air. With a hiss Rido prepared to strike. "No."

Zero had spoken and he stared at the man that had filled his dreams with night terrors for far too long. Squeezing his hand into a fist, Zero cut off the air supply to his heart; he had remnants of the power that had previously been coursing through him and he wanted to use it to end him. "Zero…" Kaname murmured. "Do not become like him." That was all that was said, but it was more than enough to release his hold on Rido's heart, only to sweep his hair over and quickly sever the long strands. Leaving Rido panting on the ground, Zero scooped up the shattered remains of the stone. "I believe there is still enough power for you to make a wish on it." Kaname glanced at the one he loved.

"You could wish for Rido to leave and never return to harm us or anyone again." Zero stared at the man that he had just professed his love to and he knew what he wanted to do. "But I could use this power to wish for something far greater. To stay with you, for eternity." Kaname's jaw slackened. "But you would be a pureblood, what you've hated since that day!" Zero gave his lover a smile. "To be with you forever is my wish. What this wish turns me into is of no concern." With that, the shards of stone glowed brightly, hearing the wish of one who truly meant it, and the moonbeams from the now starry night sky wished their blessings on the lovers; for eternity. They shared a kiss, Rido watching as Zero took on the glow and aura of a pureblood. [A/N: Ugh, this is so cheesy, shoot me now.]

Breaking apart from the kiss, Zero glanced at Rido his violet eyes shining with anger. "I will not kill you that would be too good for you. Instead, I plan to force you to watch what you could never have." And Kaname got the first chance to see Zero in his new found glory. But what his lover did surprised him. He did not use any new power. He used his affinity over plants he inherited from Shizuka to slowly wrap around the deranged pureblood. Sealing him away as a tree; forced to watch, but helpless to do anything. Zero turned around to look at his lover, but he never got that far as the world was suddenly spinning and he collapsed into Kaname's arms.

Kaname scooped his lover up and began to walk, determined to get as far away from that root of all evil as quickly as he could. Just as the blue moon was fading from sight, Kaname cleared the forest seeing Yuuki running at top speed yelling, and crying. "Zero!" She was sobbing now. "You were so different, and you scared me." Zero gave her a small smile. "I'm fine now, and that's what matters." Yuuki nodded before her frown became steely. Not nearly as frightening as Zero's though. "Now are you going to tell me what in the seven hells has been going on?!" Zero and Kaname both chuckled, and Zero patted Yuuki's cheek, as he stared up at the moon.

"That's a story for another time I think."

E.N.D

TA-DA! *confetti* It's over! And frankly I think I did horrible! But it's over!

But did you guys get my little 'root of all evil joke?' Get it? Because he's a tree now. Bdm tshhh.

So yes I will be coming back to this story maybe by the end of our lifetime to revise this story because we all know that the beginning just starts off baaad. I also tried my hardest to make the ending good, but as I said in the author's note above, I definitely lost my muse for this one. Upside to this being over is not I can finish on my other stories. Hooray!

Also, I was thinking of creating a FaceBook page for my FanFiction and Ao3 accounts seeing as they are one and the same. That way you guys can tell me what you want and kick my butt into gear when I'm not updating enough. Because let's face it. I'm on FaceBook A LOT. And I think it would be fun to get to know you guys and be able to chat with you on a more personal level; because I love hearing from you guys. I haven't made a page yet as it is still just a thought, but tell me more if you like this idea and think it would be a good thing for this page, readers, and me and my stories of course.

I hope you guys haven't forgotten about me!
