Hello, my lovely readers. It's been awhile and I hope that you haven't given up hope that there would be an update. On with the show…
Chapter 20: The Big T
Rebekah had fallen into a deep sleep when she was suddenly awakened. Moving her head, Rebekah blinked at Stefan warily. He was staring straight ahead of him unhappily. "What?" Rebekah mumbled still half asleep when she saw what he was looking at. Damon was walking toward the house with Elena in his arms wrapped up in his leather jacket.
"Damon," Stefan growled as he got up and made his way toward his brother whose face held no expression that would tell them what he had done. "What did you do?"
"I took her to dinner," Damon snapped back with a roll of his eyes.
Rebekah stared at Elena's body which was not moving. Pulling the jacket that Stefan must have placed over her while she was sleeping, Rebekah narrowed her eyes at Damon. "You mean Elena was dinner?" It was more of a statement than a question. She was sure that the girl in Damon's arms was dead. But without her enhanced hearing, she could not listen for a heartbeat, or see in the dark well enough to tell if the other girl was breathing.
Damon smirked at Rebekah. "Want to break the news, Stef?" Stefan looked angry and confused as he looked at Elena, then his body relaxed.
"She's alive," Stefan announced. "Why, Damon? Where were you?"
Damon began to chuckle. "I took her to dinner. You," he looked at Rebekah, "said that I was in love with Elena. So, I took her to dinner to figure out if you were a crazy person. Guess what?" Damon's eyebrows lifted while his eyes twinkled with amusement; then he grimaced as Rebekah glared back at him. "You're crazy… but I think you're a little bit right. But I'm not saying that you're altogether right."
"You mean you're admitting that someone else is right about something?" Stefan inquired, his eyebrows lifting and his mouth twisting upward into a grin. "It's a miracle people."
"How many times do I have to tell you, Stefan, you're not the funny brother? I'm the funny one. You're the sad and broody one," Damon retorted. "Now, can we go inside because the human is getting heavy."
"No, she is not," Stefan snapped. "You're up to something."
"Am not," Damon snapped back. "I just want to go to bed. I'm actually tired. I compelled too many people and being nice to a human this evening was exhausting. Now, I need some beauty sleep. You don't look this good without taking care of your body."
"Whatever," Stefan snorted. "Let's go." Walking over to Rebekah, Stefan wrapped his arm around her and they followed Damon inside the house. After they were in the room that Stefan was using, Rebekah looked at Stefan. "Do you believe that he did not hurt her?" she asked, looking at the wall. She knew that Damon was probably listening to her from the bedroom he was in with Elena two doors down.
Stefan sighed, "I believe him. I know what you're thinking. Damon is out of control. He compelled your family and friends to be," he shook his head trying to find the right words. "Like they were. But it will wear off. That's how it is with a vampire's compulsion unless he decides to compel them again…"
"I know, Stefan," Rebekah replied slowly. "I think that we need to talk." Holding out her hand, Rebekah waited for Stefan to take it as he gave her a questioning look. When Stefan's palm met Rebekah's, she pulled him to his feet and then walked toward the door. Entering the hallway, she looked around before walking into the bathroom. Turning on the bathwater, she started to take her clothes off.
After they were both undressed and in the bathtub, Stefan took Rebekah's foot between his hands kneading gently as she gathered her courage. This would be much easier if she were still in her world. On the other hand, if she were in her own world then this conversation would not be necessary. "Bekah?" Stefan said gently and she felt his eyes on her.
Forcing herself to meet his steady gaze, Rebekah began to speak. "Stefan, you probably will not believe me when I tell you this but…" she began quietly over the sound of the steadily rushing water. "However, I am going to tell you the truth about how I know about vampires." Stopping, Rebekah watched as Stefan looked at her frowning. "This is not my world. I wished to be in a world in which my family, my whole family, was together and that men… liked me. I think that the former went a bit farther than I had wished…"
Trailing off, Rebekah watched as Stefan turned the water off and got out of the bathtub. She was sure that he was about to walk out the door when he switched on the water in the sink. Climbing back into the bathtub, Stefan picked up Rebekah's other foot and began to rub with a look of concentration. "You're telling me that you're from… what? An alternate universe?"
Rebekah nodded, feeling tears pricking her eyes. "My brothers Finn, Kol and Henrik are dead in my world," she said as her shoulders began to shake.
"Oh, Rebekah," Stefan whispered his face contorting, reaching out and wrapping his arms around her. "How? I mean, what happened to them?"
Calming down Rebekah continued. "A thousand years ago my mother, the Original witch, did a spell to turn her children into vampires because my younger brother, Henrik, was killed by a group of werewolves. He wanted to see them, and Nik took him. When Henrik died Nik felt it was his fault, but he was not the only one who was affected. My Father pressed my Mother to find a way to keep us alive. Vampirism was their answer. We were the first vampires to walk the earth and that is why I know about vampires."
Stefan sat back and stared at Rebekah. "Why didn't you tell me before this?"
"I didn't know how to tell you. I believed that you would think me insane and never want to speak to me again," Rebekah responded with a forced smile.
Adjusting his body in the bathtub, Stefan seemed to be lost in thought for a while before he replied. "Is there anything else that you've been keeping from me?"
Rebekah sucked in a deep breath. "In the Twenties, we met and fell in love. You were in your Ripper state at the time, and Nik and I were on the run from our Father. When Father found us I was determined to stay with you, but Nik compelled you to forget me, and he daggered me for nearly ninety years. Nik finally brought us together as part one of his schemes, but it was too late. You were in love with someone else by then. You did not want me."
"I was in love with someone else? Who?" Stefan asked, his eyebrows coming together.
"Elena. You were deeply in love with Elena Gilbert in my world. It was only recently that you broke up with her when she took up with Damon," Rebekah said slowly as Stefan began to process the information.
"And you said your Father was hunting you? Why would he do that?" Stefan looked confused by this information.
Rebekah sighed. "Father and Mother realized that we, their children, were a plague and that we killed without mercy. Father became the ultimate vampire hunter and hunted us. It did not help matters that he found out after we became vampires that Nik was not his son, but one of the wolves from the pack that killed Henrik."
"Oh," Stefan said, still look confused. "So, is Klaus Mikael's son in this world?"
Shrugging, Rebekah leaned backward. "I do not have a clue. There is no reason for me to believe Nik to be or to not be."
"Me and Elena?" Stefan shook his head and then began to laugh. "And you had a spell done so that men would like you?" He continued to laugh until Rebekah joined him.
"Yes. I mean if you're going to have your ideal world why go half speed? Why not do the whole thing and have everything you want? Hmmm?" Rebekah felt herself grinning at Stefan as he laughed.
"That's crazy. But it also makes sense. I think," Stefan said as he calmed down. "I mean you've been a little off."
"Off? How so?" Rebekah inquired.
"I don't know," Stefan said. "You seemed sadder than usual. The Rebekah I know was happy. Or at least that's how she behaved. And she would never have spent time with Caroline. Not even on a bad day."
"Oh?" Now it was Rebekah's turn to feel confused about what Stefan was telling her. So there was another Rebekah. 'Did that mean the other Rebekah was in her world? What if she died? Would that mean that Rebekah would never be able to return?' her thoughts were spinning faster and faster through her mind and she felt worried. 'Dear God, I've taken another girl's life,' Rebekah thought frantically.
"What if there isn't another world?" Stefan asked, breaking Rebekah out of her thoughts. "What if this is still your world, but that the spell altered it? Like some sort of glamour that would make us think that this is the way the world should be?"
Rebekah felt relieved at that idea. She might be a selfish, evil bitch but she would not want to take an alternative self's life to have her perfect world. Perhaps. It was not without difficulty that Rebekah could say that she was altruistic enough to give up this second chance to be a human, to have her family back, and to have Stefan be himself again. She was sure that she would be willing to give all of that up so that some other girl could have this life back grudgingly.
"The spell could have given us all memories. It's not outside the realm of possibility, right?" Stefan continued as if he were talking to himself. Looking at Rebekah, he paused and then began again. "That would mean that there's a possibility that what I feel for you are the effects of a spell?"
Feeling her heart squeeze painfully, Rebekah looked at her hands. "Yes, I suppose so."
"But there is a way to find out for sure," Stefan replied quickly. "You told Damon to find out if he was in love with Elena. He spent time with her and decided that it was possible. So, there are loopholes. We just need to figure out how it's possible to see beyond the effects of the spell." Taking Rebekah's hands, Stefan pulled her closer to him. "Rebekah, I know that my feelings are not the result of some spell."
"But you didn't love me in my world. You did once. But not when I met you in this time," Rebekah argued. Her heart was beginning to break all over again. This felt more like the end of things than like the beginning. Now that the truth was out, there was no way that Stefan would want to be with her. In time he would find that he could not look at her due to finding out that he had been under a spell to make him love her. She knew him far too well.
Stefan wrapped his arms around Rebekah when she moved to try to get out of the bathtub. "Don't leave. Rebekah, you don't know for sure what is going on. So, just stay with me. Please?" Stefan whispered and Rebekah laid her head on his shoulder.
"I don't know, Stefan, I feel like it would be wrong to stay with you when we don't know for sure," Rebekah muttered. "You know, back in my world, I was not bothered as much about these silly moral quandaries, but now that I'm here with you and these foolish friends of mine, I am beginning to think differently."
"You mean you're becoming the opposite of Damon," Stefan teased with a grin.
Rebekah smirked at him. "I would go that far. I am still evil. I just look innocent because I'm trapped in this vulnerable human body." Raising her eyebrows, she began to giggle when Stefan smirked back at her.
"Yes, you look very vulnerable right now. I might even go so far as to say that you're in a compromising position, Miss Mikaelson," Stefan whispered into her ear as he ran his hands over her bare back, trailing his fingers into her hair and pulling her head back to run his lips over her skin.
"We shouldn't be doing this," Rebekah murmured when Stefan pulled her closer and she felt her body reacting. "I am absolutely one hundred percent sure that we should not be doing this," Rebekah whispered to Stefan as she eased forward and groaned into his ear.
"Yeah, you're right," Stefan replied. "This is so, very wrong," getting up, with his arms still wrapped around Rebekah's waist, he sped them into the bedroom. "We should use the bed."
"You don't know me, Stefan," Rebekah whispered.
"But I did. Let's call this becoming reacquainted," Stefan informed Rebekah and then he began to make her forget her own name. Yes, she would worry about moral quandaries tomorrow.
Okay, so there it is. Hopefully you will see the last chapters of this story sometime this year.
Thank you for reading, faving, following and/or for reviewing.
Answers to reviews:
Ghostwriter: I know. This remains one of my favorites to date. Thanks for reviewing.
Guest: In this chapter, I know sometimes I make little glitches that can be confusing, sorry.
MrsLeaMorgan: Thank you.
Oceanofoswald: Ya better. ;) Agh, it's Dannnnyyyyy Targaryn!
xxxLeaniexxx: You never know, they might later on. Klaus is a cutie pie in this fic. And there will be more.
Redbudrose: I've missed updating and hearing everyone's comments. Seriously, my fans mean more to me than I can express.
JuseaPeterson: Yes, I wanted there to be consequences to Bekah getting what she wanted and I thought it would interesting if those consequences happened to other characters. Rebekah kind of feels responsible for these little humans that are so self-destructive. I think I was greatly inspired by my favorite quote of Bekah's from TO, "We girls have to stick together."
Kalijah and Fage make me sentimental for season three of TVD which in my opinion was the height of the show and it hasn't been the same since. Kol and Bonnie or a lot of fun to write about here. Klaroline is my muse most of the time and I love to try out different roles for them. Bekah and Stef were one of the best parts of season four, I loved when they had the eighties dance with the rabbit foot and all that which is more sentimentality because I am someone that was born in the eighties and loved the music and the films. Ah, yes, there's always another surprise and Damon and Stef being vamps was one of many still to come…
Thanks for reviewing.
LogicToMyLit: I know, right? I sometimes think that the writers read fanfics, too. However, I was little disappointed on how quickly they ended that storyline, that might just be me. Thank you for reviewing.
Guest: And here it is. I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing.
Until next time, peace,
Jessica
