Chapter 21
After Soul had cleaning Maka's wounds, waiting for her to shower, and then rewrapping them, the two had decided to watch a movie on the couch and order pizza. It had been awhile since they were able to cuddle in their cozy apartment and both needed something to refresh them.
That night, they had somehow found a way to cuddle in Soul's bed without squashing Maka's injured arm or agitating her broken rib which hadn't been hurting her much at all.
The next morning was fairly calm; Soul made breakfast for Maka and left to Death Scythe training, leaving Maka to fend for herself. Soul had been against it at first, not wanting to leave his injured meister to herself, however both Stein and Maka had been insistent on his keeping up his training.
Maka had now been sitting on her couch, reading her book as a way to distract herself before she went mad from missing Soul. Though she still didn't regret sending him to training.
Ring Ring Ring
"Hm?" said Maka, looking away from her book at the ringing phone. Maka got up to answer it, speaking in a bright voice. "Hello, Albarn and Eater residence."
"Maka?" said a familiar voice on the other end.
"Tsubaki? How are you doing?!" asked Maka, happily, glad she had someone to talk to.
"Good, actually. How is your arm and rib?" asked Tsubaki, her voice a bit worried.
"They're okay. Soul help with my arm yesterday and my rib hasn't been having any trouble," said Maka, smiling to herself. "So what's up? Thought you'd be catching up with Black*Star."
"Mm…we caught up a bit, but it was mostly him apologizing for leaving me to go on a mission with just you when it could have been really dangerous. I kept telling him he had nothing to apologize for since he was on his own important mission but it didn't help," explained Tsubaki, eliciting a giggle from Maka.
"He only has a soft spot for you, Tsubaki. He's never apologized to me and I'm his childhood friend," teased Maka.
"Well, I guess, but I think he's been a bit too soft," explained Tsubaki, causing Maka to be confused.
"What do you mean? You want him to be hard on you?" asked Maka, jokingly.
"W-Well, not hard but…ummm…rough? In an impure sense," said Tsubaki, causing Maka's eyes to widen.
"Tsubaki! A-Are you lusting after…Black*Star?" asked Maka, surprised.
"I-It's not my fault! It's just…been awhile. I mean, I got my period before he left so we couldn't do anything and then he was on a mission, and then I was on a mission, and then I was recovering. He told me he wants me to rest up but it's just been so long. He really doesn't make it better when he walks around in his underwear or out of a shower with just a towel," complained Tsubaki, Maka listening intently to her best friend. When Tsubaki had finished, Maka giggled, lightly, causing Tsubaki to shout out 'What's so funny?' in a panic.
"Tsubaki, I never pictured you as the closet minx, though I guess that explains the situation in Eibon's book," giggled Maka, causing more flustered sounds to come from Tsubaki.
"W-What about you and Soul? I'm sure it's been awhile for you guys, too," countered Tsubaki, not really affecting Maka.
"Tsubaki, I prepared myself for that. I know Soul well enough to know that I could straddle him naked and he wouldn't touch me while I'm hurt. He's just that kind of guy. Plus, it's not like it's weird to not be having sex with him. I spent almost our entire partnership without doing it," said Maka, causing a defeated groan from Tsubaki.
"Ugh…does that make me a pervert?" asked Tsubaki, hoping for a boost to her esteem.
"The perviest," teased Maka, receiving another defeated groan from Tsubaki. "But don't worry, you'll be back to your old routine soon. I've probably got another month before Soul will even give me the time of day for that kind of stuff."
"But then I'll feel bad," said Tsubaki, sincerely. Maka giggled at her friend's honesty, knowing how Tsubaki could be at times.
"I'll be okay. Anyways, I should probably get back to the laundry. Soul said he was going to do it when he got back from training, but I'm doing them for him. Don't tell Black*Star," said Maka, shushing her friend through the phone. Tsubaki giggled and muttered out a 'Good Luck' and 'Be careful' before Maka hung up the phone. She turned and strut off to begin the laundry which consisted of both her own and Soul's luggage from their trip, along with the laundry that they didn't get to do before they left.
Within minutes, Maka realized that one handed laundry was more difficult than she thought. She can't really use the muscles in her arm well due to the damage, and so she can't rely on it at all. On top of that, she was slower with her left hand and therefore couldn't properly work with the clothes and detergent.
The first process was separating the colors form the whites. She used her good arm to carefully, and annoyingly slowly, pick out all the white clothes which she would be cleaning first. After 20 minutes, she was sure she had cleaned out all the clothes.
Now the difficult part. She had to lift the oversized detergent bottle, which she now regretted buying as it was so big you would need both hands for a healthy person, and attempted to pour it into the small measuring cup. After a bit of spilling and much wasted patience, she managed to fill the cup with the proper amount of detergent and poured it into the batch of clothes before closing the lid and turning on the washing machine. Maka decided not to bother cleaning the detergent since she would just make another mess when the colored clothing was to be washed.
Maka had moved to her room to clean up any messes that she had, finding nearly none. Since she and Soul had gotten together, Maka spent nearly zero time in her room, only going in for clothes, her books, or to work on school assignments. Even then, she ended up leaving her books around the apartment, mostly in Soul's room, because Soul loved to watch her focused eyes as they glided back and forth along the paper.
Her bed, as she noticed, could use some dusting since she hadn't slept in it in so long dust was actually accumulating on the sheets. She pulled her duster from the shelf above the washing machine and began to dust off her bed, thinking about how Soul and her relationship had progressed. It had been awhile now since they had gotten together and she was so glad they had. Though Soul may not have been the most ideal guy for any other girl, he was perfect for her. He was gentle with her, always concerned with her feelings and what she was interested in. Their personalities worked in harmony, his calm and collected and her eccentric and energetic, adding in the pieces that the other required to deal with each situation. One of the things she loved was that he knew exactly how she felt about things, like what having a dysfunctional family was like, or what it's like to be alone.
Come to think of it, she still hadn't met Soul's family. Granted, Soul didn't really like speaking about his family; however she did remember him mentioning something about a sibling, though he didn't seem happy while speaking about them.
"I should ask him some things about his family. I mean, I didn't ask before because we were just partners, but now that we're together, maybe I could meet one of them," said Maka, contently to herself. She walked back over to where the washing machine was to put the duster back and noticed that it had finished. She took out the clothes, taking forever by the way, and put them into the dryer before moving to work with the colors. She repeated the process with the colors and then went off to eat a late lunch which consisted of leftover pizza because she was obviously in no shape to cook.
After eating, she moved to a book, again trying to distract herself from missing Soul and failing until she decided to check on the washing machine. The dryer finished and she took out all the clothes and put them in a basket that they used for clean clothes before moving the colors to the dryer. She decided to leave the folding and storing of the clothes to Soul, mostly because he would kill her if she didn't leave him with something to do, and moved back to the couch with her book.
Just as Maka was finishing taking the colors out of the dryer, she heard the door open, causing her to jump.
"Maka?" called Soul into the quiet apartment.
"In here!" called Maka from in front of the dryer. Soul followed her voice, finding her taking clothes out of the dryer.
"Maka! The hell, woman. I said I'd deal with the laundry when I got back," scolded Soul, pushing her out of the way to finish for her.
"But I was bored and thought that I should help you out. I'm not completely useless, y'know," retorted Maka, causing Soul to roll his eyes.
"You should be resting. The more you move around, the longer it'll take for your arm and rib to heal," scolded Soul, causing Maka to pout. Soul sighed and placed a hand on her hair before ruffling it. "Look, I appreciate the help, babe, but please go and rest for a bit, I'll finish up and join you on the couch."
Soul placed a kiss on her forehead before turning her around and pushing her towards the living room, Maka muttering out 'Fine's as he did so.
Fickle woman, thought Soul with a smile plastered on his face.
