Slaying

Alice's POV

The jabberwockies' electrifying violet blast rocketed from the hole in the tree stump where the hole I had fallen down was. A moment later the tree exploded into chucks of wood as the army flew into the over world. The beast I was clinging two thrashed around in the air, knocking me off and slamming onto the ground below; claws wrapped around me and lifted me up to the monster's face. It roared, its eyes glowing as I saw its electric blast rising in the back of its throat, taking the vorpal sword I chopped it's head off and fell to the ground once more. When I was on my hands and knees, about to rise, a foot kicked my side sending me rolling over a few times before stopping on my stomach. Then that same foot planted itself hard on my back, ensuring I did not get up. "Alice Kingsley." I turned my head to look up at the snickering face of Red.

"Red." I spat back with venom then he hauled me to my feet and wrapped his hand around my throat as he lifted me off the ground, "You know I can call of the army before it slays your loved ones," he said smiling, "all you have to do is agree to marry me and together we can rule Wonderland and make it a new, glorious place to be." I narrowed my eyes,

"Like hell I would do that." I kicked his stomach with feet, sending him flying and me falling sloppily to my feet as I continued to catch my breath. I approached him as he groaned on his back, then took my other sword out of its sheath and lifted it above my head. I had two swords on hand: one for Red and Iracebeth and the vorpal one for jabberwockies alone. He looked into my cold eyes and then snickered before whistling. I turned around and saw the three remaining young jabberwockies fly away; my eyes darted back to my opponent, who snickered,

"What will you do now, Alice? As we speak those creatures are making their way to your loved ones who will perish quite brutally." My blood turned to ice then I glared at him,

"Then let's stop our little chatter." I put my fingers to my own mouth and whistled a high tune, then a moment later the giant Bandersnatch burst from the crater the flying beasts made and roared. Immediately when I stepped away he raised his giant paw and struck Red, breaking his back and sending him flying. He lay there, breathing heavily in his last moments then he snickered at me and hurled his dagger into my body. I gasped and my eyes widened with the pain and right after that the furry creature took him in his mouth, tossed him in the air then caught him and bite down hard, crushing all of his bones and killing him. Red's fiery eyes were as cold as stone as he limply lay in the Bandersnatch's gory jaws. I ripped the dagger from me and dug into his corpse, then the Bandersnatch tossed him away and we watched him fall down the hole which dwelled above the battlefield. I fell to my knees breathing heavy as I held my wound and the creature bowed his head and growled at me with worry. "Quickly . . ." I said panting as I slowly climbed onto its furry back, "we have . . . to get to my mother's . . . before the jabberwockies kill her and my sister." The beast nudged me, aiding me onto his back then took off galumphing toward my house. As we neared it I saw the jabberwockies flying alongside us, biting and clawing at us, thankfully the Bandersnatch avoided the blows, tossing me around in the process. When I had an opening I hurled the vorpal sword into one of their chest and watched as it died and fell to the earth, the beast ran near the corpse and as we passed I snatched the sword from its chest. "One down, two to go." I said to the beast which roared in reply. Suddenly, he leapt high into the air and I cried loudly as I clung to his back; little did I know another jabberwocky had appeared and the Bandersnatch clamped his jaws around its neck and bite down, killing it. As we landed, another jabberwocky was right underneath us and the weight of the white and black creature crushed its bones killing it as well. We continued on and looked behind me to stare at the three bloodied corpses in shock at that what just happened; I turned around and smiled a little, "Huh, that was easy. Now alright, Bander, let's see how fast you can run, we still have to see if my family is safe." The beast roared and ran as fast as it could.

At last we arrived at my house, Bander stopped behind a cluster of trees hidden from sight and I slid off his back and staggered to my front door as I held my wound. A moment later my mother answered and when she saw me tears came to her eyes, "Alice . . . is that you? Where have you been?" She embraced me tightly, "After you said you had something to do I expected you to be back a few days later but you've been gone for months!" She pulled away and blinked her watery eyes, "You had me so worried and why are you dressed like you're at war?"

"Mother, please there's no time to talk. I am at war but it's a very long story, please come with me."

"But why, dear?" I held her hands,

"Please, Mother, no time for questions." I lead her to where Bander was and she saw him she screamed at the top of her lungs and seemed about to pass out,

"Mother, listen to me, he will not hurt you. He's on my side of the battle, stay with him and he will protect you."

"P-protect me from what d-dear?" she said shakily then I heard a scream from inside the house,

"That."

"Oh no, Margaret! She has the baby with her!"

"Where is she Mother!"

"I-in her bedroom!" Without another word I took off into the house.

Normal POV

Alice's mother stared at the house then jumped when Bander snorted, she turned around to meet his enormous head, "S-so you're on Alice's side?" Bander nodded and she flinched that he was able to understand her, she slowly reached out before laying a hand on his furry forehead and in response Bander bowed his head. "So who are you and my daughter fighting against? And when did this war start? I-I haven't heard anything about it at all and there has been no ruckus about it." She was about to ask even more questions when a roar boomed in the house, causing Bander to raise his head to the window where Margaret was and roar loudly in return then he positioned himself so he stood protectively in front of Alice's mother.

Alice's POV

I slowly and quietly progressed into my house, my hand at the ready on the vorpal sword's handle. My heart was thumping so loudly in my chest I prayed the enemy wouldn't hear it thus giving my position away. I made my way to my sister's room and when I was outside her door I heard shaky, terrified breaths. I opened the door and saw my sister trembled in her bed. "Margaret, it's going to be ok, I'm here to help you."

"A-Alice!" She gasped, "I-I'm hearing roars and seeing violet light but not seeing where they're coming from!" I hurried to her side just in time when another roar shook the room, I narrowed my eyes and took a stand in front of her bed which lay across from a window; my hand tightly clutched the vorpal sword's handle. "Alice . . . I'm scared . . ."

"Don't be," I reassured not taking my eyes off of the window, "you're going to be fine as long as I'm here and I'm not going anywhere." It was silent for a while but out of the blue the other adult jabberwocky's head popped up and fired its electrical blast at my sister and me. I took my shield which had been slung over my shoulder and blocked the attack. It kept firing and I kept blocking and as soon as it stopped I charged forward, slashing my sword left and right at the mighty beast. It roared, snapped, and clawed at me and I continued to move left and right to protect my sister. Of course I would forget about the adult while fighting Red and the other jabberwockies! I fought for hours and hours, getting beaten up from the beast's teeth, claws, and tail while my sword had earned it significant damage as well. My sister cowered in her bed, clutching her baby for life but I knew as long as I was here they would be safe because I remembered what Absalum told me that night before I fought the jabberwocky the first time:

"Remember the vorpal sword knows what it wants, all you have to do it hold onto it." I narrowed my eyes and felt a new power swell within me. I charged forward, dancing around the blows and blasts of violet energy, then I dazed it by striking its head with my shield and while it recovered I mounted its neck and hung on tightly as it retreated outside and tried with all of its might to shake me off. Then, just like last time, it tossed me up and as I came down so did my blade.

"Off with your head!" It died just like the father did and I began to fall with the beast, then Bander leapt up and caught me on his back before returning to my mother at the front of the house.

"Alice!" She hurried to me and a moment later was joined by my sister,

"Are you alright?" I smiled tiredly,

"Yes, just a little tired. Are you two alright? Did that creature harm you in any way?" They shook their heads,

"No but what was that thing?" Margaret asked,

"And what's going on with this war?"

"What?" My sister said in total shock with wide-eyed, "War?" I nodded,

"Yes . . . you see . . ." my vision became clouded as the pain from my dagger wound intensified and then overcame me causing me to pass out.
