After several weeks things between Angela, and Jane finally resolve. One afternoon Jane finds herself sitting outside on a bench eating her lunch. Maura comes outside, and joins her.
"Are you still mad at me?" Jane questions as Maura sits down.
"Yes."
"Even after I publicly apologized, and made a fool in front of myself in front of the entire squad room?"
"Yes," Maura nods.
"And got reprimanded by my boss."
"Yep."
"And could still be facing suspension?"
"Still yes," Maura insists.
"Frost is probably going to have to move to another precinct."
"Why should he have to move?"
"He shouldn't. I should. All of this is my fault. Is that what you want me to say?"
"I just want you to mean whatever it is that you say."
"Maura I am sorry. I regret not telling you. I know that what I did hurt you, and I am truly sorry for that. I just really miss my best friend."
"Is your mother talking to you yet?"
"Slowly, but surely."
"You know the fact that you hurt her is worse to me than the fact that you hurt me. She's your mother, and she didn't do anything to deserve being treated that way."
"I know that."
"All she wanted was to be at your wedding, and you denied her that opportunity."
"I have apologized to her a million times."
"That is not enough."
"And I have vowed to include her in any, and all other major events in my life from here on out."
"So you have talked to her?"
"Yes," Jane nods.
"What did you say?"
"I told her the truth."
"Starting from when?"
"The beginning."
"Oh. How did she take it?"
"She went through an entire box of tissues."
"Oh."
"When I left she was happy."
"After you made her cry?"
"I made sure that there was a silver lining."
"Meaning what, exactly?"
"I told her that we have decided to try to start a family sometime in the near future."
"You're going to what?!"
"We're going to try to have a baby."
"Oh."
Jane tries to read Maura's facial expression, "You don't think that's a good idea?"
"I just think that you should wait."
"Wait for what?"
"For the dust to settle," Maura answers.
"We haven't really made any decisions yet."
"Really?"
"We aren't going to for a couple of weeks."
"Why are you waiting a couple of weeks?"
"I have some things that I need tot take care of first."
"For example?"
"I have a couple more sessions with my therapist."
"Excuse me?"
Jane surveys the area to see who else is around. She replies to Maura in a hushed tone, "Don't make me say it again."
"I didn't know that you were seeing anyone."
"I am."
"For how long?"
"Months."
"Are you sure that you're ready?"
"Yes."
"How long has it been since..."
Jane cuts her off, "Seven months."
"And you're certain that you're ready?"
"Yes."
"Don't you think you should go to..."
"I have an OB/GYN appointment tomorrow."
"I still think that it is a little bit soon."
"I know that, but let's face it, I am not getting any younger. It might take a while."
"What if it doesn't happen at all?"
Jane cocks an eyebrow, "Is that what you're hoping?"
Maura shakes her head, "Not at all. I just hope that you have all of your ducks in a row before you get pregnant."
"What is that supposed to mean, exactly?"
"Are you going to move? Your place isn't big enough for another person."
"We will cross that bridge when we come to it."
"Don't you think that it is something that you should discuss with Frost first?"
"You sound as bitter as my mother."
"Excuse me?"
"Neither of you will say it."
"Say what?"
"Husband," Jane supplies.
"It is difficult to conceptualize the idea of you having a husband due to the fact that I wasn't at the wedding."
Jane shakes her head, "Why are you being so damn negative?"
"I am not being negative. I am being realistic."
"Everything is going to work out, why can't you just believe that?"
"I want to."
"What do you mean, you want to?"
"Pregnancy can be very stressful."
"What is your point exactly?"
Maura clams up. Jane scrutinizes Maura's facial expression.
"You truly believe that I would put my unborn child in harms by ending my sobriety? Do you really think I would jeopardize my job, and my marriage, too?"
"Sometimes I am uncertain what you are capable of."
"Where is this coming from?"
"You are incredibly adept at keeping the rest of the world at an arms length."
Jane storms off without another word.
