AN: So it's going to be the chapter after this or the one after that which will be when bucking bronco first steps in. I understand that some people would like me to just skip to Mukruo, I know what's it's like to basically read the whole manga again when reading a fan-fiction, but I want to just write a couple more chapters of their daily life. I'm going to try my hardest to make it interesting, unique and not a direct copy of the manga.
Thank you Ollypuro and 9tailedanimefox for drawing some amazing fan-art for my story! It's on my profile for anyone that is interested.
Warnings: Self-insert, eventual slash, mafia violence.
It was now the season of the athletic fest and as a school with the majority of the students being male that meant it was a big thing in Namimori Junior High. Everyone got excited as they prepared for the sports that was to come and bickered about who was going to win this year.
The school divided itself into three teams, A, B and C. Which only made the students even more heated, especially for the last event, the boys competed in a sport called the 'pole knocking' event. I personally had never heard of such a sport, but from the sounds of it I was pretty sure it was very dangerous.
Pole knocking was where the leader of each team climbed on top of the pole while the rest of the team tried to keep the pole stable and fight off the other students, the winner was decided by which ever team's leader touched the ground first.
Obviously the guys get over-excited for the event, since in their eyes this was the time to prove how good they were in sports and beat everyone else.
I personally was never a competitive person, but unfortunately as a male student it was expected of me to join in on the 'fun'. I would have said no since I really didn't care what people thought I should do, but the fact that Tsuna along with Yamamoto, Gokudera and Ryohei were all taking part in the actives was enough motivation.
All four of them together just spelled trouble, and I just knew that somehow Gokudera and Ryohei would get caught in another one of their little spats and leave Tsuna for the wolves.
Not that they would do it intentionally, Gokudera would faint at the mere thought, they just tended to get very involved in their fights and forget about everything else.
Basically it was up to me to make sure that Tsuna didn't get sent to the hospital.
"ULTIMATE WILL TO WIN!" Ryohei shouted from his place at the front of the classroom. "That will be the slogan for the athletic fest tomorrow! Unless we win, everything is meaningless!"
I fought back the urge to cover my ears as the class hooted and cheered along with the boxer, the students were feeding off his energy and becoming just as 'extreme' as he was.
"So the teams are divided by class," Tsuna commented from beside me. "We're going to be on Ryohei-san's team, he's just as passionate as he usually is."
"He's also Sasagawa-san's brother too." I replied, and he turned to me with wide eyes.
"Ehhh? He's Sasagawa-chan's brother?!"
Though he had met Ryohei and fought him like in the manga, thanks to me sending the boxer his direction, Kyoko hadn't really been around to see it. She wasn't as involved as she had been in the manga, I suppose it was because Tsuna just didn't seem as interested in her as he was in the manga. Which was odd, she was a pretty girl that most the guys fawned over.
Well except Tsuna's friends, but really as far as I could remember no one in his group had shown interest in a girl. There was Ryohei who married that one girl, but otherwise Tsuna had been the only one with an obvious crush.
That was in cannon though, right now Tsuna wasn't even glancing Kyoko's direction.
"It is rather surprising she is related to that boxer freak." Gokudera said from beside Tsuna, his face unimpressed as he watched the older male. "He's so freaking annoying."
Tsuna turned toward the bomber with wide eyes. "Gokudera! Sasagawa-chan is just over there, she may hear you say that!" He whispered, flicking his gaze toward the girl who was looking at her brother with worried eyes. "You don't want to hurt her feelings!"
"Oh come on!" Yamamoto chirped from the seat on the other side of me. "Ryohei is just excited."
Gokudera just crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. "Can't he speak in a normal tone? All his yelling is going to make me go deaf."
"It's not too far from how you usually are." I spoke, thinking back to the many times he would make my ears ring with the explosions of his dynamite. "At least he doesn't have any exploding weapons."
The bomber tched but didn't seem affected.
"I AM GOING TO RESIGN THIS YEAR!" Ryohei announced with a clenched fist making all the students gasp and start murmuring to each other.
"What are we going to do?" A guy whispered to his friend a few seats down. "We've won the past couple years because of him!"
That wasn't hard to believe I certainly would be hesitant to face the boxer in any sort of sport.
"Rather then being the leader, I want to battle as a soldier!"
So basically he wanted to kick some ass instead of being protected by everyone else. Made sense, since Ryohei was Ryohei after all.
The class didn't seem too happy, they were probably counting on him to win another year for them.
"But there is nothing to worry about, I've prepared someone else who is better than me to be the leader."
All the students suddenly were very interested and skeptical.
"Huh?"
"A guy who is better than Sasagawa to be the leader?"
I knew that somehow Tsuna would end up being pushed into this, and it didn't take a lot of brain power to come to the conclusion that the one Ryohei was talking about was the brunet. I had a feeling that Reborn had somehow talked him into it.
"Sawada Tsuna from class 1-A!"
Said brunet stared uncomprehendingly at the bomber. "Eh?"
The class was just as shocked, almost everyone's mouths were open and eyes wide in disbelief. Despite the fact that Tsuna had shown skill in volleyball the knowledge that Tsuna was really bad at sports was known throughout the whole school. To them any chances of winning had just been utterly annihilated.
Gokudera stood up with a wide smile on his features. "The boxer freak known the greatness of Juudiame!"
I internally face-palmed nearly feeling Tsuna's nervousness and fear that was radiating off of him. "Why?" He whimpered, and turned toward me desperately. "Haruka I'm going to die!"
"It probably won't be too painful." I reassured oh so helpfully. "All you have to endure is hundreds of fists pounding into your flesh before you finally become unconscious."
He paled and 'hiieed' quietly, later on I would try and make him feel better but right now I was having too much fun teasing him.
"Those who agree raise your hand!" Ryohei shouted, raising his own. "We will decided by the majority of the hands raised!"
"I refuse." One student replied.
A girl huffed and turned her nose up. "We don't want to lose."
"You're kidding right?" Another student snickered.
Tsuna seemed to brighten up at their words, ignoring the fact that they were putting him down in favor of hoping that he wouldn't have to be the leader.
"RAISE YOUR HANDS!" The boxer yelled, now trying to order the students.
When the students weren't 'motivated' enough Gokudera stepped in, his eyes shadowed as he slammed his foot down on his desk. "There's no one in our class who's gonna refuse, right?!"
The girls instantly raised their hands as hearts appeared in their eyes. "We agree with Gokudera-kun!" They cheered completely awe struck by his 'cool' aura. The boys, frightened beyond belief also raised their hands, albeit looking like death had suddenly appeared in front of them.
"It's decided then! The leader of the poke knocking is Sawada Tsuna!"
Tsuna slumped in his seat, defeated and hopeless.
"What am I going to do Haruka?" Tsuna whimpered as we walked to his house. "The current leaders for the other teams are the president of the Karate club and the president of the Sumo club!"
"That does sound rather scary," I replied thinking to those rather intimidating students. Really anyone but Ryohei would have a hard time going against them. "But I'm sure you'll find a way."
Tsuna blinked stopped to stare at me with wide brown eyes. "You think I can do it?"
I halted and huffed. "Of course Tsunayoshi."
"W-well maybe it won't be too hard…" He mumbled, eyes downcast and face shadowed by his bangs.
Furrowing my brows I leaned forward to peer at him. "Are you catching a cold Tsuna?" I asked, noticing that his cheeks were flushed. "Maybe you should get your temperature checked."
He snapped his head up to look at me and made an odd squeaking sound when he realized how close we were. "A-ah yeah I think so," he stuttered, wiping his brow. "Now that you mention it I do feel hot."
I opened my mouth to reply-
"Haruka-kun!"
Huh? I turned toward the familiar voice, my gaze turning upward and an eyebrow raising when I spotted Haru on a phone pole. The girl had actually climbed to the top, which was surprising in itself, but what I was most confused about was the fact that she was wearing a skirt.
I may have been a boy for twelve years, but I still knew what positions would reveal my underwear to the public and would always try my hardest to keep it hidden. Climbing anything in a skirt just happened to be on the list of 'what not to do when wearing a skirt'.
"You're wearing pink panties." I observed, not at all abashed. Why would I be? Maybe if I had been a boy in my past life I would have been more quiet about it, but really when it came to girls I wasn't at all embarrassed about things like that.
Tsuna choked from beside me. "Haruka!"
"Hahi!" Haru flushed a tomato red and slid back down the pole instantly. "M-maybe that wasn't the best thing to do." She admitted sheepishly. "Anyways I have a day off from school tomorrow!" She announced gazing at me with sparkling eyes. "I'm going to see your amazing action Haruka-kun!"
Having recovered Tsuna gazed at her curiously. "Why?"
Her eyes narrowed at his voice and interestingly enough I could almost see a fire surrounding her. "You thought I gave up, didn't you?"
The brunet shook his head, though I could see in his eyes that he had thought that. We hadn't seen her in a while so I had assumed that after being blown up she was scared off, interesting that she had come back.
Haru crossed her arms and smirked. "I'll have you know I recently started training with the *Naginata! After our battle and seeing your power I decided I needed to become strong to beat you and win Haruka-kun's heart."
Tsuna gaped. "Ehh?"
I wasn't too bothered by the fact that they were now in their little world, though why was she so…competitive with Tsuna? Did he do something to anger her?
There was also the fact that Haru took up Naginata classes, which made me wonder how much will she really had if her liking me motivated her enough to start taking classes like that. In the manga she and Kyoko stayed in the kitchen, but I had started to think neither would be in anyway involved this time around.
It wasn't like they played a big part in the Mafia anyways, so I hadn't been too concerned, it was for their own safety really.
Did Haru taking Naginata classes mean she was eventually going to get involved? Would Kyoko somehow get immersed in too since her brother was part of Tsuna's family?
Would Tsuna and Kyoko actually end up together?
For some reason, something within me rebelled at the thought. She couldn't just waltz in with all her sparkles and have Tsuna fall in love with her cuteness, I wouldn't allow-
I halted my train of thought, what was I saying? Of course she could, Tsuna was meant to crush on her anyways so better latter then never.
…Right?
"I'll see you tomorrow Haruka-kun!" Haru's voice broke me from my inner battle and I waved in response as she walked off, what the heck had they been talking about when I was in lala land?
"Yet another person is going to see me fail." Tsuna commented, his shoulders slumping. "Ugh I wish I could just refuse…"
"You'll never know until you try." I said, and patted him on the shoulder. "You're not as dame as you think you are Tsunayoshi."
Once again his cheeks flushed, making worry nag at me. "Tsuna you're getting red again, maybe you should go to a doctor I don't think your temperature should be fluctuating like it is."
"Ah! Yes you're right! Because I'm sick!" He laughed shakily and shook my head. Maybe the fever was messing with his brain?
Observing the two males from further away, Kyoko stopped to watch their interaction. Sawada Tsuna was a klutz and failed all his tests and had been since she could remember, but just as that was true so was the fact that Fujimoto Haruka, someone rumored to be able to kill anyone with a mere glare, had been by said klutz's side since kindergarten.
Everyone had speculated about the fact that two seemingly very different people were so close. Tsuna who was afraid of his own shadow didn't so much as cower as most students did when those piercing eyes settled on his form, and that made her curious. If he was such a scaredy-cat why did he hang out with such a scary person? Haruka who gave any one but Tsuna a dull, bored stare that made them back away without even glaring voluntarily hung out with the brunet and seemed to enjoy it. If he was such a loner, why did he pick Tsuna out of all people to be friends with?
Hearing their conversation just now made her realize that perhaps they were just so close that their differences didn't matter. It reminded her of her mother and father actually, her mother was a gentle, soft-spoken woman while her father was as extreme as her brother and was constantly yelling. Yet somehow they coexisted and loved each other with all their heart.
Hearing how Haruka had effortlessly reassured Tsuna and even made the brunet stand taller made her feel guilty that she had wanted to say to him he could refuse. She had seen how frightened he was and had instantly decided that it was going to be too hard for him, but Haruka had done the exact opposite and actually was pushing Tsuna to compete.
Perhaps Tsuna had a hidden strength that no one but Haurka saw?
Maybe she had judged a book by it's cover and was acting cruelly when she though of Tsuna as just a Dame, maybe he was really an amazing person?
Even if he wasn't, the fact that he could seem so courageous when someone reassured him made her realized that he certainly wasn't as useless as everyone thought him to be.
Kyoko liked to think of herself as an open-minded individual, but now she was ashamed that she had judged him so quickly. Just because he wasn't as good at school as others didn't make him stupid, or useless.
Fingers clenching on her bag strap Kyoko decided to try and befriend him and Haruka. Such a kind-hearted person didn't deserve what Tsuna had been going through.
As far as pole climbing lessons went, this one was a major failure. Mostly because Ryohei and Gokudera had decided to start a brawl leaving Yamamoto and I to just barely keep the heavy piece of wood Tsuna was perched on upright.
Ryohei had slapped the cigarette out of Gokudera's mouth, shouting about how it was bad for his health which made said smoker pissed off and start throwing dynamites everywhere. Of course I couldn't move to get away from the explosions, if I did that would mean Yamamoto would end up having to hold up the pole by himself.
I knew he wouldn't be able to, which would lead to Tsuna getting a worse fever then he already had.
As it was though, we we're having a little bit of a problem. I wasn't weak per-se, but my physical strength had much to be desired, so while I was helping out with keeping it upright Yamamoto was still bearing most of the weight.
Tsuna hiied from up above, apparently having broken out of his Dying Will mode and probably freaking out as bombs exploded below him. "Why is this happening?" He wailed fearfully.
"This is getting really heavy." Yamamoto grunted, sweating slightly.
I took that as the only warning we would have before he finally let go, and that's all I needed to get motivated. I couldn't allow Tsuna to fall into the river a few feet away and get more sick, not if I had something to do about it.
"How long do you think you can hold it by yourself?" I asked, making sure the baseball player heard me above all the explosions.
"Maybe five, ten seconds. Why?"
I turned my head up to look at Tsuna, the pole was a about eight, maybe ten feet in length. That along with the speed it would fall meant I would most likely be able to get up there in time if I went fast.
Hopefully.
"Try to hold it as long as you can." I murmured and Yamamoto nodded. "I'm going to go up and try to help him down."
"Good luck!" He cheered and settled himself firmly on the ground despite all the chaos around us. "I'll try to hold the pole as long as possible."
I reached up as far as I could and pulled myself up, grimacing when I finally succeeded. Honestly, no wonder Mulan had such a problem climbing up a pole, it took a lot of arm strength.
Ignoring the way my arms started to tremble as I pulled myself up as fast as I could, aware that Yamamoto was struggling to keep the pole straight as both I and Tsuna weighed it down.
"E-eh? Haruka?" Tsuna peered down at me with wide eyes, watching in shock as I came closer and closer to his place at the top.
"Ciao." I greeted, forcing myself to not show the strain I was going through and focusing on the fact that I had to get to him, I was more then half-way by this point in fact I could probably grab his ankle if I tried hard enough.
"I can't hold you guys anymore! Sorry you're going to fall!" Yamamoto shouted and the pole started to descend toward the water.
"Hiiieee!"
Knowing I had maybe five seconds at most I reached up as far as I could and grabbed onto Tsuna's ankle that was just in my reach.
He jerked in shock, and the sudden movement made his gip loosen on the pole and he started to fall. He fell right into my chest, which I hadn't anticipated, making me loose my grip and send us both tumbling into the water with the pole.
I sat up quickly as the freezing water rushed around me, completely soaked and shivering. Well that didn't go as planned, and here I thought I'd be able to preform some sort of superhuman move or something. Shows what I know.
"A-are you o-okay Haruka?" Tsuna asked, teeth chattering as he hugged himself.
I nodded. "Sorry I t-thought I'd be able to g-get to you in t-time." I murmured, hating the fact that he was in the freezing water with only a pair of boxers on.
"I-it's okay, I-I'm happy y-you tried." He replied, sending me a shaky smile.
Now Tsuna was going to get even more sick, great.
The next day
Frowning in concern Shamal looked at the thermometer not liking the fact that it read 40 degrees Celsius. (About 104 degrees Fahrenheit)
"How bad is it?" Kimiko asked in concern from behind him, staring at her son's shivering form worriedly. "He looks really sick."
"I think he just caught the flu." Shamal replied. "Which isn't surprising since he and Tsuna fell into the river yesterday."
"I wonder if Tsuna has a cold as well," Kimiko murmured. "I wouldn't be surprised if Nana didn't realize it, I'm going to give her a call."
He nodded observing the young boy. Though he refused any male patients, Haruka was different. The teen had grown on him before he realized it, and now he didn't even care if he was a female or not. Honestly he saw Haruka as a son, though he wouldn't ever admit it out-loud.
Though it could also do with the fact that Haruka didn't really look like a male.
"Nana just checked Tsuna's temperature and says he has a fever too." Kimiko called up from downstairs. "I'm going to tell her to bring him here so you can help him too."
"I don't fix male patients." He replied automatically.
"You do if you don't want to be sleeping on the streets."
He slumped, knowing it was impossible to win a verbal fight with her. "Fine…." He whined, already dreading the fact that he'd have to help another male. Females were so much more better, with their soft skin and big eyes…giggling to himself the doctor blushed as he imagined a particularly pretty girl.
"…Tsunayoshi."
Yes her name would be Tsuna-what? He broke out of his daydreaming to stare down at Haruka who was scowling as he clung onto one of his pillows.
He chuckled and ruffled Haruka's dark locks. "Don't worry kid, he's going to be coming soon."
Thirty or so minutes later a brunet he could only assume was Tsuna stumbled in followed by Reborn who stopped at the door, his eyes glazed and cheeks heated as Kimiko pushed him into the room. Shamal could tell with one glance that both student wouldn't be making it to school that day.
That's too bad, Haruka had mentioned something about a fest going on today. But there was no way he was going to allow to obviously sick people to participate in such a strenuous activity.
"Hey my name is Shamal." He greeted already liking the fact that the brunet looked more like a girl then most males did. "Kimiko can you get some blankets so we can set up a bed for him-"
Tsuna walked right past him without a word and both adults watched as he climbed onto Haruka's bed and settled himself behind Haruka's form. Instantly Haruka let go of his pillow and turned to face Tsuna, mumbling happily as he pressed his face into the other boy's chest, the brunet mumbled something in reply, one of his arms reaching over to wrap around Haruka and bring him even closer.
Shamal gaped.
"My goodness," Kimiko cooed, eyes shining in adoration. "How cute."
"Hmpf Dame-Tsuna is lucky he's sick." Reborn chirped, dark eyes glaring at his students form. "Or I'd blast his brains out."
"Oh don't act so protective, I think it's adorable." Kimiko murmured quietly. "They would make such a cute couple."
"Over my dead body." The hitman replied, sounding all too serious.
How they got together was beyond Shamal's knowledge.
Pressed up against the wall as much as he was able, Tsuna stared, horrified at the huge cat that was on Haruka's bed. He had woken up about five or so minutes ago, finally able to think properly now that his fever was gone, only to notice that he was once again wrapped around his friend and there was a cheetah sleeping with them.
He wasn't sure what to freak out about first.
It stared at him with nearly glowing golden eyes from the foot of Haruka's bed, making him very creeped out at how unnatural it looked. It was more muscled then the cheetahs he had seen on T.V. and probably a lot bigger too, besides he was pretty sure their eyes didn't glow.
"Tsuna? What's wrong?"
The brunet glanced toward his friend who was looking at him sleepily, his hair standing up in different directions and eyes not covered by his glasses like they usually were. Without his glasses Haruka looked...pretty, kinda girly too but he mostly had an elegance about him that was more pronounced when his glasses were off. Cheeks heating up Tsuna glanced away, hoping desperately that Haruka hadn't spotted his blush. "There's a cheetah sleeping on your bed."
"Ah." Haruka grunted, not at all shocked and snuggled deeper into the blankets. "He's my training partner."
Tsuna turned to stare at the huge feline. Haruka was training with that?!
"Reborn gave it to me as a present."
Oh well that made sense now, his tutor tended to achieve the impossible 24/7 so why not bring a wild cat to train his son? It was perfectly normal. Not!
"It's an android called CAT."
Well, now his mind was really blown. "What?!" He exclaimed, his brain trying to comprehend what his friend had just said. "An android?!"
"Hmm." Was Haruka's sleepy reply.
What next? A giant turtle Godzilla who ate houses would appear? He didn't know, but it was far too early to be thinking this complicated when he had just recovered from being sick. He made sure Haruka was asleep before gently pushing back the sheets and scooting as close as he dared. Haruka was so warm.
A few days later...
I was in a dilemma, Tsuna's birthday was tomorrow and I had no idea what to get him. This happened to me all the time when somebodies birthday came up, I never knew what to get them and basically stressed about it the whole time. Tsuna being my best-friend meant he was special, which meant I needed to find something special for him.
But what? He could cook well, but he didn't do it too often and he wasn't too good at sports so anything athletic was out of the question.
"Haruka are you okay?"
I broke out of my thoughts and nodded quickly, trying to act as normal as possible. "Yes, fine, absolutely fine."
He didn't seem to believe me for one second. "Everyone is acting weird today...I wonder why."
Everyone was acting odd, when we passed by Haru she seemed rather busy with something while Bianchi just turned to stone as soon as she was talked to, even Shamal was acting odder then usual. I had a feeling though that it wasn't because of Tsuna's birthday sadly. I don't think anyone but myself knew when his birthday was.
"Everyone is preparing for a birthday party." Reborn chirped having appeared from who-knows-where.
Tsuna jumped in shock and turned toward the small Hitman. "Reborn!"
"Ciaossu, Dame-Tsuna, Haruka."
I waved lazily in reply. "Ciao."
Tsuna seemed very excited at the prospect of a birthday party, which I assumed he probably thought it was going to be for him. Unfortunately I didn't think that Reborn would just tell Tsuna about his supposedly 'surprise birthday party', but if it wasn't for Tsuna who's birthday was it?
Tsuna grinned with a light blush on his features, his brown eyes nearly dancing. "You really shouldn't be telling me about that."
"I only forgot to tell you Tsuna."
I narrowed my eyes at his words just as confused as Tsuna looked. Was Reborn not aware that Tsuna's birthday was tomorrow? Did he know whose birthday it was?
"Well it's fine with me," Tsuna smiled brightly and stuffed his hands into his pockets. "I'll just pretend to be to not notice or I'll ruin what everyone has done."
Reborn smirked. "You look happy."
"Of course!" The brunet looked over the moon, and I couldn't blame him for being excited. This was the first time he was going to be celebrating with friends, well at least that's what he thought.
I frowned, not liking the fact that he was getting excited over something that wasn't going to happen. Intentionally or not Reborn was making him hope for something that wasn't going to be for him. It made my heart ace as I realized I would have to tell Tsuna the truth. I didn't want to though, I could already imagine his down-cast eyes and dropping shoulders that would make me feel like I had been the one to hurt him. As his friend though, I didn't want him to walk into this thinking people actually remembered his birthday.
I suppose it would be best to tell him after school, so it wouldn't ruin his day completely.
Nearly skipping in excitement Tsuna tried to come up with the best reaction he should give when everyone surprised him tomorrow. Maybe he should act really shocked? Or pretend to forget it was his birthday? A wide smile formed on his face for the hundredth time at the thought, it was going to be the first time he celebrated with someone beside his family and Haruka. He actually had more then one friend to celebrate with!
He wondered what Haruka would give him, he still had the stuffed Tuna from his seventh birthday Haruka had given him and the pair of headphones with the number twenty-seven on them that had been his tenth birthday gift. He cherished each item like they were made of glass no matter how silly, Haruka had actually remembered of his birthday every year unlike his mother who often forgot. The fact that someone had spent the time to get him something, Haruka especially, always made him feel like someone actually cared about him.
"Tsuna."
He stopped at his friends voice, worry nagging at him instantly. Haruka's tone sounded like the dark-haired boy was about to tell him something that would make his day not so great. Tsuna turned around, brows furrowing in worry when he saw the way his friend seemed to have a hard time saying what he had intended. "Yes?"
Haruka shuffled his feet for a few moments, uncertain before finally taking a breath and looking him in the eye. "About the birthday party..." One of his hands reached up and ruffled his dark locks nervously. "I don't think they're celebrating your birthday..."
Oh, oh. "W-why do you say that?" Tsuna asked, though suddenly the odd way Reborn had been speaking started to make sense. Why would the hitman say he 'forgot to tell him' about his own birthday celebration? "The party isn't for me...is it?"
Well he wasn't too surprised, he was dame-Tsuna after all. But he did wonder who the party was for, was if for one of his friends? Oh god what was he going to get them? He was a terrible person for not knowing who's birthday it was!
He stilled when a pair of arms wrapped around him, eyes widening when Haruka hugged him tightly. "I'm going to get you the best birthday present ever Tsuna, I don't care who this party is for, your birthday is so much more important to me."
Cheeks turning a bright red Tsuna nodded, unable to speak as his mind shorted and became black. All he could think of was how warm Haruka was and how happy he was that Haruka hadn't forgotten about his birthday. Suddenly the fact that all his friends would most likely go through tomorrow without the knowledge that it was his birthday was fine with him, as long as Haruka knew he'd be ecstatic.
It turned out that it was in fact Reborn's birthday today, apparently he was turning one year old and everyone knew it. Well except Tsuna and I. The party was chaos, as expected, apparently during the years that you were turning an odd number the Mafiaf would play a 'game'. This game was basically whoever gave the worst present was shot, and unsurprisingly Lambo was the one who lost in the end. Tsuna had performed some impossible act with his 'Dying Will' thanks to Reborn, and apparently I was excused since I was Reborn's son.
Everyone had no idea that Tsuna's birthday was tomorrow, well except Gokudera who somehow knew everything about Tsuna. But even the bomber didn't have anything to give the brunet since being around Bianchi was making it so he couldn't move.
I suppose though, now that everyone knew that Tsuna's birthday was tomorrow everyone would scramble to try and get him a gift within the small time limit they had. I still had no idea what to get him, since I had promised to get him the best birthday gift ever. Why the heck did I say that? Now I was doomed to forever search for something amazing that I probably wouldn't be able to find in time.
Right I said that because of the sad expression that had made Tsuna's eyes turn downcast and body slump in defeat. He had been so happy and then so easily accepted the fact that his birthday was forgotten as if it was expected. Which he probably though it was, he was under the impression that he actually was a dame since everyone had been calling him that since he started school.
I paused my train of thought when I came upon something interesting, I was currently in the bookstore looking at manga, since I knew Tsuna mostly read manga, and one in particular caught my eye. The sign above it said best seller, and the cover looked rather interesting.
I picked it up, maybe Tsuna would like a manga?
"Ohh that's a good one."
I turned toward the speaker, pausing when I realized it was Kyoko Sasagawa in front of me with all her sparkles. "Really?" I turned to the back of the manga to read the description.
Strange things are happening all over town, and Kouichi Amano's nightmares have started again. Several clans have been spurred into action as the past gradually resurfaces. Just what is going on, and how do the Amano brothers fit into the picture?
Hmm it did sound interesting.
"I didn't know you were interested in that type of manga." Kyoko said peering at me with curious eyes.
I rose a brow. "I suppose I like supernatural manga, they're not too bad." I'm sure Tsuna would enjoy it too, despite being a scaredy-cat he read a lot of different manga even the ones that made him afraid to sleep at night.
She giggled and winked at me. "I see, don't worry I won't tell anyone, I like those types of manga too."
It was just a supernatural manga, why was she acting so secretive? Did people here not read supernatural manga a lot or something? "Hmm." Deciding to just ignore the weird way she was acting I grabbed up the first five volumes of the manga and walked over to the register. Kimiko was nice enough to lend me money when I told her why I needed it.
"Where are you going after this?" Kyoko asked apparently deciding to accompany me to the front of the store.
I looked at her from the corner of my eye. "Tsunayoshi's house." I replied dully, not really having any reason to be too nice to her. We weren't friends or anything, in fact we maybe passed by each other once or twice in the hallway so why was she making an effort to talk to me now?
Kyoko hummed. "You and Sawada-kun are really close, huh?"
"I suppose." I replied, handing the manga over to the checker. The woman sent me the oddest look when she saw the manga but otherwise said nothing, weird I guess people really didn't read supernatural manga in this town.
Once I bought the books I started to head out, Kyoko following beside me.
"Are you buying the books for Sawada-kun?"
I nodded.
"So he's into that sort of stuff too." She tapped her lip thoughtfully. "I really didn't expect that."
I shrugged, not really knowing what to say. I hoped she'd end up getting bored and leave, not that I hated her or anything I just was terrible at communicating. Especially with someone as sparkly as her.
After about ten minutes she finally admitted she had to go, saying something about buying cake before giving me one last sparkling smile and walking off. I watched her leave, wondering why she had gone out of her way to talk to me all of the sudden.
Oh well.
I got to Tsuna's house in another ten minutes, nodding to Nana in greeting and heading up the stairs to his room. The loud shouts of Gokudera and Ryohei echoing throughout the house, since we didn't really have time to come up with a party for Tsuna we all just decided to hangout at his house and chat. Tsuna seemed delighted, so that's all that really mattered.
"Hey Haruka!" The brunet greeted, a wide smile on his face.
"Ciao."
I walked around Ryohei's and Gokudera's wrestling bodies to sit next to Tsuna who was on his bed, away from the the flying limbs that were being thrown around randomly. "Here." I handed him the bag, and he accepted it with a small smile. "I couldn't find the most amazing gift so I had to settle with those, someone told me they were good though so I hope you like it."
"Genwaku No Kodou*, I don't think I've read this one before..." Suddenly his face was a deep red as he focused on the cover. "A-ah this is..."
I glanced at the book and then back to his face. "Is there something wrong with it?"
He snapped his head up a frantic look in his eyes. "No! Not at all!"
Not believing him for a second I just hummed in reply.
I wonder what was wrong with the book to make him react in such a way...
*A Naginata is, in short, a long pole with a long blade inserted on the end.
*Genwaku no Kodou, for those of you who don't know, is a yaoi manga. Haruka didn't know that though, so he unintentionally bought Tsuna a BL manga for his birthday lol.
AN: Wow, another long chapter. This time past 6,000 words. And to think I was having a hard time writing 4,000 just a week ago. Anyways I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and sorry for any mistakes.
Also I made a deviant art account under the name the-eternalscribe, I'm going to be posting updates about this story and where I am with the next chapter along with various pictures I find that makes me think of the story. (Or any pictures in a manga I find awesome in general) You can also chat with me on there or have any questions answered, if that's a cool thing I don't know, but there's some fan-art too in my favorites.
