A/N: Hello again! Sorry this one took a while but hopefully it was worth the wait :)
Lily Potter had been to Diagon Alley countless times but she still absolutely loved it. The things in the shops were always changing so it was like a new place every time anyway.
She'd dropped off another bunch of Pygmy Puffs to George and had just had lunch with Draco at the Leaky Cauldron.
It was an unusually warm November day as she and Draco strolled down the street together browsing the shop windows, every now and then going into one.
They held hands and talked about this and that. Nothing could've been more perfect in Lily's eyes. Apparently not everyone felt the same. Eyes watched them for longer than a passing glance. Voices whispered loud enough to hear. Draco seemed to pay no attention and Lily was more than used to it. Even before she'd ever met Draco she'd been subjected to this sort of behaviour. Being Harry Potter's daughter had to have it's downsides as well as ups. She couldn't help but notice however that the current whispers were less excited and more cynical.
"Did you see that? It's Harry Potter's daughter with Draco Malfoy!" whispered Draco to Lily mockingly.
"How scandalous!" she returned grinning.
"You'd think everyone would be over it by now," commented Draco. "The way gossip travels everyone should know by now."
"Trust me," replied Lily. "There's still a lot of milage to be got out of this one."
She remembered her last two years at Hogwarts. Even though Draco was long gone he was still a popular topic of conversation especially whenever Lily was in the vicinity. It had made it hard for her at the time, constantly being reminded of what she didn't have anymore but now that she had exactly what she wanted she didn't really care one bit.
"You don't mind?" asked Draco a little more seriously.
"No way," replied Lily. "I think people should mind their own business but I know that's never going to happen. I couldn't care less what other people think as long as I've got you."
She put her arms around him as they walked along and looked up into his eyes.
"Do you?" she asked.
"Hardly," he answered. "I learned a long time ago not to care about what people whisper about me."
He looked down at her and they shared a kiss.
One passerby actually stopped in their tracks.
"Should we take a bow?" asked Draco smirking, with his face still close to Lily's.
She giggled and shoved him playfully.
A few others had stopped to watch them now.
Maybe it was a bit off putting after all.
"Hey," said Lily suddenly stopping. "Ollivanders! Let's go in and say hi to Scorpius."
"He's working," said Draco reluctantly. "Maybe we shouldn't disturb him."
"I can see him," said Lily, peering through the dusty glass and waving, completely ignoring Draco's protestations.
"Come on," she urged pulling him by the hand through the door. "He's by himself."
Draco seemed to follow more willingly knowing Scorpius was alone.
The bell tingled as they entered.
"Hey," said Lily.
"Afternoon," replied Scorpius without looking up. "How can I help you?"
"Ha. Ha," said Lily sarcastically and he finally raised his eyes from the ancient looking book in front of him.
"Father! Potter!" he exclaimed. "What a pleasant surprise."
"Where's Ollivander?" asked Draco.
"Don't worry," answered Scorpius. "He's not in today. He's ill."
Draco nodded and relaxed more.
"What brings you to London?" asked Scorpius.
"Pygmy Puffs," replied Lily grinning.
"Of course," Scorpius rolled his eyes before a glint appeared in them. "Looking forward to tonight?" he asked smirking.
"Tonight?" asked Lily innocently as Draco motioned wordlessly behind her back in an effort to shut his son up.
Scorpius ignored his father.
"Yes tonight," replied Scorpius. "Mira is coming over for dinner and naturally you're also invited Lily."
"I hadn't mentioned it yet," Draco cut in before quickly adding; "Come on Lily let's go."
"But you only just got here," exclaimed Scorpius.
"We don't want to disturb your work any longer," replied Draco practically pushing Lily out the door.
"Bye bye then, enjoy the rest of your afternoon," Lily heard Scorpius' amused voice call before the door slammed behind them.
"What was that all about?" she asked immediately.
"Nothing," replied Draco with an awkward forced grin. "Just a stupid dinner."
"Doesn't seem like that's all it was," retorted Lily.
"It's just that... I know you don't like her," admitted Draco. "But I couldn't bare to have to face it alone so I..."
"You want me there for support?" Lily cut in, beaming.
"Yeah I guess," replied Draco with uncertainty.
"You don't like her much either," said Lily, it was more of a statement than a question.
"I think Scorpius could do better," replied Draco. "But I suppose she is Nott's daughter and I respect him."
Truth be told, Draco didn't really feel like he could question Scorpius' choice of girlfriend when his own was far from conventional.
"I'll be there," smiled Lily. "At least then you won't have to suffer alone."
XXX
Lily had only just arrived at Malfoy Manor and was immediately met at the door by Draco who led her into his room. He seemed to be quite anxious. Before she could say anything to him, however, there was a loud crack and Orli the house elf appeared at the door.
"I told you not to apparate into my room," snapped Draco suddenly.
"Sorry, sir," replied the elf cringing a little. "I just wanted to inform you and Miss Potter that dinner is ready."
He offered Lily a small uncertain smile and she returned it.
"Thanks, Orli," she said kindly. "We'll come down now."
With another loud crack the elf disappeared.
"You don't have to be so mean to him," stated Lily, looking at Draco. She wanted to know what had caused his mood to be so on edge, apart from the obvious dinner guest. Not even Lily herself let Mira get at her that much.
"Sorry..." said Draco looking at Lily as if he wanted to say something before adding; "Let's go, I'm hungry."
What was going on? Draco's hungry? Lily didn't know why but she found that hard to believe, he never talked about food.
Deciding not to press the issue she said nothing and they went downstairs together to the dining room. When they entered there was already five people seated at the table. Of course, Lily immediatley recognised Lucius, Narcissa, and Scorpius and soon saw that Mira was there too. It wasn't until she reached her seat that she knew who the fifth person had to be; Mira's mother. They looked more alike than Draco and Scorpius did although the parent in this case hadn't aged so well.
"Hello Draco," she said as her eyes settled on him hungrily. "It's been a while."
"Pansy," said Draco shortly and coldly.
She stood up and held out her hand to shake. He obliged and as he did so she leaned in to kiss him on the cheek.
Lily suddenly felt her face burning and she unconsciously clenched her fists.
Pansy held her forward-leaning position as Draco pulled away.
"And who is this?" she said looking Lily up and down with a superior air.
Lily glared at her.
"Oh," she said as if she had only just realised. "Lily Potter."
Lily didn't take her eyes off Pansy but heard Mira attempting to stifle a giggle.
"Well, shall we sit down?" asked Pansy taking her eyes off Lily and looking at Draco.
The three of them took their seats. As usual Lucius was seated at the head of the table with Narcissa to his right. Scorpius was sitting directly opposite his grandmother with Mira next to him and Pansy next to her. Draco sat down next to his mother and Lily next to him; opposite Pansy.
Lily didn't really know why but she knew she hated Pansy Nott. She also now knew why Draco was acting so weird. He clearly liked the mother even less than the daughter.
"Where's Theodore?" asked Draco, breaking the silence that had descended upon the table.
"Working," answered Pansy rolling her eyes. "He's sorry he couldn't make it."
Lily could tell that Pansy certainly wasn't sorry that he was absent.
Finally taking her eyes away from the repulsive sight of the woman opposite her, Lily looked at Draco who was still staring at Pansy, his expression once again unreadable. This made Lily even more ill tempered and she aimed a glare at Scorpius who was watching the three of them carefully, a playful smirk on his face, which did not disappear when he saw Lily looking at him.
Narcissa cleared her throat and asked them if they would like to start eating. They all replied that they did and the food was brought out.
After conversations about current events and Quidditch fizzled out after a few minutes Pansy spoke up.
"Draco," she said sickeningly. "Do you remember our school days?"
He murmured that of course he did but was far from inviting her to continue.
"Remember the time we went to the Yule Ball together?" she said with an air of dreamy reminiscence.
"Yes," said Draco. "It was a long time ago."
"Oh it feels like only yesterday to me," she returned.
"Won't you tell us about it Mum?" asked Mira with a glance at Lily who was now sitting rigid in her chair with her arms crossed.
"Why doesn't Draco tell us?" said Pansy.
"We went to a school ball together," replied Draco looking at her. "What more is there to tell?"
"A lot more if my memory serves me correctly," replied Pansy.
"Well my memory mustn't be as good," said Draco stiffly.
"Surely you remember the mistletoe," she said grinning.
Lily could feel her face burning again.
Narcissa seemed to have noticed Lily's reaction and tried to intervene.
"Perhaps that's a story for another day," she said. "Mira, why don't you tell us about your new owl."
"I'm bored with that owl already," replied Mira. "I'd much rather hear about the Yule Ball, we never had one while we were at Hogwarts, did we Lily?"
Lily wasn't listening she was too busy trying to stop herself from hexing Pansy, who had been eyeing Draco the entire time.
"Oh," said Pansy with another tone of fake surprise. "Lily, you were at Hogwarts at the same time as Mira, were you?"
"Yes," said Lily with contempt.
Pansy grinned at her. "So that means you're only a girl really."
"I'm eighteen," replied Lily. "I'm of age, but I guess some people are still considered only a girl at that age."
She looked at Mira as she spoke the last sentence.
Pansy chuckled before saying sarcastically; "You are so very much like your parents, you must be so proud."
"I am proud to be a Potter," Lily replied heatedly. "And a Weasley."
She didn't take her eyes from her foe but noticed that Lucius had choked on his wine at her last comment.
"Father doesn't consider Lily only a girl," piped up Scorpius and Lily was unsure whether he'd said it to help or hinder her.
"Scorpius," hissed Draco as Mira started giggling into her hands.
"What?" asked Scorpius. "You don't, do you?"
"Of course not," he replied. "But I don't think it's appropriate conversation for the dinner table. Especially when we have guests. That's between Lily and I."
"You two are an item, then?" asked Pansy again with a look of feigned surprise.
Lily had no doubt that Mira had told her all that she knew.
"I thought you must've been a friend of Scorpius'," she continued. "How silly of me, but I'm sure you can see why I was confused."
"Like Draco said," interrupted Narcissa. "That is between Lily and Draco. I'm sure they'd both appreciate it if we left it that way."
Lily finally took her gaze from Pansy and looked at Narcissa, grateful that someone had come to her defence, she smiled.
Narcissa nodded and looked at the clock; "Time for dessert."
Orli appeared and cleared away the empty plates, Lily's however was barely touched and still quite full.
"Are you finished Miss?" the elf asked quietly.
"Yes, thank you," Lily replied quietly but Pansy heard the exchange.
"No appetite Lily?" she asked loudly.
"Not much," replied Lily. "In fact, I don't think I will have any dessert tonight. Please excuse me."
Unable to take it any longer Lily stood up abruptly, thanked Lucius and Narcissa for their hospitality and started to march off towards the door. She heard Draco say something and then his footsteps following her. She didn't slow down or look back but kept her pace until she reached his bedroom door which she barged open and attempted to slam behind her. A soft thud indicated that Draco had been closer than she thought and had stopped the door with his foot.
"I can't stand her!" Lily exploded the second the door had been closed by Draco. "And you just let her go."
"Wha..." Draco seemed lost for words.
"Why didn't you tell me she was coming too?" Lily rounded on Draco, their faces only inches from each other. "And don't tell me you didn't know! That's why you were acting so weird!"
"I know I should've told you," said Draco.
"What? That I'd be having dinner with your ex?" she shot back. "Yeah, you should have!"
"She's not my ex!" he asked, raising his own voice now. "She was just a girl from school."
"That you dated," said Lily. "That means she is your ex."
"It's not like that," he said. "I never really cared about her."
"So you say," mumbled Lily bitterly crossing her arms in a very immature way and scowling.
"What do you want me to do about it? What can I do? I can't take back something that happened nearly thirty years ago!" cried Draco exasperatedly.
She didn't even know why she'd gotten so angry herself. Why was she acting this way? Was she really jealous...of Mira's mother?
"You didn't defend me," she said glaring at him.
"From what? Her weak attempts to undermine our relationship?" he asked. "She's not worth it."
Lily let out an annoyed sigh. He was right but she didn't want to admit it.
"Don't let her get what she wants," continued Draco taking Lily's arms and unfolding them for her. "This is exactly what she was aiming for, she wanted us to argue over her. It makes her feel worth something and everybody knows Nott doesn't make her feel that way."
It gave Lily a strange sense of satisfaction to know that Pansy Nott was unhappy.
"You're right," consented Lily. "We won't argue about someone like her, it's just..."
"What is it?" he asked holding her hands in his.
"Nothing," she said blushing.
"Lily," he implored. "What is it? You can tell me."
She melted under his gaze.
"It's just that it's weird hearing that you've been with someone else," she said immediately wishing she hadn't.
Draco looked like he didn't know what to say.
"I mean I know you've been married before and everything," said Lily quickly and wishing more than ever she'd remained silent.
"Well," said Draco finally. "You'll be happy to know I was never with her, not in the way I think you mean."
"Really?" asked Lily, a little ashamed at how happy that made her.
"No way," said Draco smiling.
"Because you know," said Lily returning the smile. "I've never been with anyone but you."
"I know," he said simply.
She pulled him down to kiss her, then whispered; "I've never even kissed anybody else."
"Really," he said smirking. "I'd like to keep it that way."
And all thoughts of the vile Pansy Nott disappeared like a puff of smoke in the wind.
