Chapter 20

Erik couldn't believe what he just heard. Kat was in love, and the one she loved was him! But as he remembered all the times he spent with her INCLUDING the times he was in bed with her, it made sense. 'Ten whole years she had secretly loved me, this entire time she has loved me,' he thought in his mind. "But why didn't she ever tell me of her feelings until now?" he asked aloud before he then remembered. "Because she believed I was in love with Christine the entire time," he said before the buzz that alerted those back stage to be quiet for the performance was about to start. "Oh!" he said before he ran out of the dressing room heading to the stage side so he could listen to Kat's song. 'If I am not there I will loose her!' he thought in his mind as he arrived just in time for Kat's song was just starting.

Kat felt her heart pounding loudly in her ears as she stood in the darkness of the stage. Her eyes closed as she stood in the center of the stage softly hearing the gentle music that was the beginning intro of her song. She could feel all eyes on her as the spotlight slowly appeared on her. 'It's now or never,' she thought in her mind. She then started to sing as she felt her love for Erik and the singing in her veins come alive.

"I hear someone...A phantom singing his soul...What sadness it brings...to my heart," she softly sung as she moved her hand to her chest. "Can no one see his tears? For all else run cause of the fear to anyone that draws near and call him monster," Kat sung before she looked up almost directly to the spotlight. "But then I met him, unlike any other man I've seen," she sung before she closed her eyes with a dreamy like smile on her face. "Whose voice lifted my spirit and soared...high up to the starry sky...that reflected in his eyes..." she sung holding a few notes before she opened her eyes looking in the distance longingly, which the image of Erik appeared in her mind. She then reached her hands out to the image of Erik. "Sing to me my Angel of the night...Make me dance once more to your music," she sang before she closed her eyes and pulled her balled up hands to her chest.

She then shook her head. "Please don't look so sad..." she sung before she slowly opened her eyes again. "For your music...makes me light up like the starry sky in your eyes..." she sung before a male dancer dressed in black with a white vest and matching white mask appeared out of the background as if he was part of it and came alive by magic.

The man started to dance behind Kat as she continued to share in the distance. Kat then acted as she felt her Angel behind her, so she turned around and saw the dancer. Kat took a few steps to the side of the stage as she acted a bit surprised. Kat then looked at him in awe as she watched the dancer dance. "When I saw you I felt the strangest pull, as if my soul was beginning to fly like an Angel's wings," she sung before she took a few steps to the dancer reaching a hand out to try and see if he was real or if she was dreaming. But when their hands touched she jumped back at the same time he then took a step to her she turned away looking like a shy maiden. "I now remember the first time I felt like a normal person...my heart begins to beat, as if you brought it to life," she sung as the dancer stepped slowly behind Kat. He then slowly touched one of Kat's hands as he leaned his face close to her ear softly singing a soft note to which Kat shivered to. "And now as I hear you sing in my mind, it also sings along..." she sung before the male dancer took her other hand and started to wrap their entwined arms around her. "Or maybe it knows where I belong!" she sung before the male dancer started to gently rock her back and forth.

"Sing to me my Angel of the night," she sung as she closed her eyes, looking as if the male dancer was enchanting her with his arms holding her. "Make me dance once more to your music," she sung before she turned her head and opened her eyes looking directly into the dancer's eyes. "Please don't look so sad...for your music...makes me light up like the starry sky I see in your eyes..." she sung before the male dancer twirled her around and started to dance with her as part of their act. Acting the part of a young girl being enchanted by a mysterious magical being.

Erik couldn't believe his heart was beating so hard as he watched Kat dance with whom he believed to be Marius. Hearing her song brought up the music within him as it did the night of the Masquerade. And the same feeling he had when they had conceived Gustave. He rested a hand to his chest against his pounding heart. 'This is her singing her feelings for me,' he thought in his mind as he was remembering of the times he thought he was alone in his loft singing his longing for whom he thought was Christine, but it was for her...for Kat. 'Kat...' he thought. 'Kat...Kat...' he thought again before a thought just occurred to him. 'Wait a moment...Kat is sometimes short for Katherine or Kathleen,' he thought to himself before he looked at Kat with wide eyes. 'Could it be...Could Kat be Kathleen Daae?' he thought before he suddenly felt a small hand take his hand, making him look down to see Gustave who was watching his mother dance.

"Amazing isn't she?" Gustave asked softly. "I've always watched her every performance ever since I could remember, and I haven't seen her dance so magical like she is now," he said before he looked at Erik. "Have you?" he asked.

Erik smiled at the boy before he answered. "No..." he answered before he looked back at Kat with a smile on his face. "Your mother is like an Angel when she dances," he said before Kat started to sing again.

"You are no longer alone...for I will be by your side..." she sung as the 'angel of the night' held her in his arms in a romantic embrace from behind. She then looked at him. "For you are my other half...There can be no other..." she sung before the dancer caressed Kat's face as part of the enchanting Angel of the night. "I will love you forever and till the end of time..." she sung as she turned to face the 'angel'. "Even if I am not the one in your heart," she sun as she started to reach her hands to touch his face. "You are no longer alone so please don't look so sad...My beloved Angel of the night..." she sung before the 'angel' stepped back away from Kat.

She started to step towards him but he then stepped away before disappearing off stage. Kat acted as a young girl who had her heart broken would act. She then looked as if she was waking from a dream.

"Sing to me my angel of the night..." she sung as she looked up as if seeing the magical Angel before her. "Make me dance once more to your music..." she sung as she reached her hands out before her. "Please don't look so sad...For your music...Oh your music..." she sung holding a few small notes before she then finished her song.

She took a few steps to the center stage as she sung. "Makes me light up like the starry sky in your eyes...My beloved Angel of the night..." she sung holding a small note before she sung the last words to her song.

"My beloved Angel...Of the...night..." she sung holding a long note before she ended her song. The audience applauded and cheered for Kat as they enjoyed her song. Kat smiled with joy on her face before she glanced to the side seeing Erik and Gustave applauding to her. Complete blissful joy irrupted through her before Kat did her graceful bow to the audience. When Kat was done Marius in his costume came out and took his bow with Kat before Marius stepped away back stage for Kat to take another bow for the audience. Suddenly Miss Flick, Dr. Gangle and Mr. Squelch came out and surrounded Kat with smiles on their faces.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, let's hear it for the Angel of Coney Island!" Dr. Gangle cheered as he and Mr. Squelch held up both of Kat's hands. Kat smiled as the audience applauded again. She then glanced to the side and saw that Erik was then gone with Gustave also missing. Kat felt her heart freeze but she tried to remain calm and smiling happily. Dr. Gangle then let go of Kat's hand and allowed Mr. Squelch to escort Kat offstage as Miss Flick started to show off with her birds. "The master took young Gustave to see Miss Daae, mother," Squelch said knowing what Kat was about to ask him. "He said he would meet you in your dressing room after you were done," he added before he started to lead her back to her dressing room. Kat felt her heart pound heavily in her chest as she drew closer and closer to her dressing room.

Erik felt his own heart pounding as he slowly paced in Kat's dressing room. Her song ignited something that he knew was true love. He remembered all of the times he had watched her sing and dance with him when he first came here. All of those feelings that he had been fearing of him betraying his love for Christine was actually his real love for Kat starting to bloom.

'Kat is the one I longed for each night,' he thought as he remembered those nights he would be singing of his longing. Erik smirked at himself for being foolish at having took so long to finally figure out his feelings for Kat. "As soon as the business with Christine is over, I will try to ask Kat to..." Erik started to say aloud before Kat had come into the room.

Kat looked at Erik directly in the eyes feeling her heart pounding as she tried to remain calm. 'Relax Kathleen, you can do this,' she thought before she spoke. "Did you enjoy the song?" she asked as she laced her hands together in front of her. "I believe you requested it," she added with a slight tremble in her voice. "Was it to your liking?"

Erik slowly walked towards her. "I was captivated by it," he said as he walked. "And was it your way to secretly confess your feelings towards me?" he asked as he then had Kat pinned between his arms against the door, making her blush at his closeness. Erik had leaned his face slightly closer which made it more harder for Kat to stop her hear beating faster and faster.

"Y-Yes," Kat replied with a trembling voice. "I had planned to sing it to you privately at a better time," she started to explain her reason. "But then you found it and wished to hear it," she added. "So I had to sing the song earlier then I planned," she said before she looked up at him. His eyes looking at her the same way he did when they first met. That night at the Masquerade when she had believed she was alone and unloved.

"So you are saying that all these years, all those times we have been together you have been in love with me?" Erik asked her in a soft whisper. Kat nodded her head in reply. "Kat..." he started to say but suddenly there came a knock at the door which Kat and Erik jump at the same time. "What is it?" Erik asked with a slight annoyance in his tone. He kept his anger in check for being a little mad that someone dared to interrupt the most important talk of his life.

"Sorry to bother you sir," Miss Flick said on the other side of the door. "But the Vicomte is heading to Miss Daae's dressing room," she explained. "He should be there soon," she added.

Kat turned her head to Flick's voice at that. "He is going to try and convince her to not sing your song," she said softly to Erik. He looked down at her nodding in agreement. Erik then started to reach for the doorknob before Kat suddenly grabbed his hand stopping him midway. "You shouldn't go that way, you won't be able to stop her in time," Kat said before she lead him to a section of her dressing room where there was a giant full sized mirror. "If you use the secret passage you might be able to get there at the same time he does," Kat said to Erik before she gently turned a carved picture of a scorpion and another of a grasshopper of the frame of the giant mirror. Then came the soft sound of a click that was followed by the soft rumbling as the mirror glass slowly backed away from the frame. The reflecting glass then slowly slid to the left revealing a passage way. "Go quickly!" Kat said gently pushing Erik inside. "Keep going straight and when you get to a crossroad take the left passage and pass six spy mirrors you will make it to her dressing room," Kat told him quickly.

"And when you get to it, press the rose carved button to lock her door, and press the two budded rose to open the mirror and get inside her dressing room," Kat added. Erik smirked at her as he stepped inside. "To get back inside just push the bird carving that is on the frame of her dressing room mirror," she said before she pecked his cheek. "Good luck...Phantom," Kat said giving him a knowing smirk before she pushed the carving of a dog that was inside on the passage way side of the mirror frame making it close shut.

Erik smiled as he knew Kat was telling him to bring some of his skill as he had when he was the opera ghost. The one part of his life that he never gave up. How else was he able to avoid being discovered all these years? But Erik stopped thinking and quickly ran through the passage using the directions Kat instructed for him. 'She must have planned to use the passage somehow,' he thought as he passed the third mirror not noticing that he had just passed Meg's dressing room.

Christine giggled as she watched Gustave march around her like a soldier would guarding a Queen or a princess. "Your mother is lucky to have you," she said with a happy smile on her face. It has been so long since she had such a good laugh. Gustave smiled proudly as he stopped beside her and handed her some pretty earrings that Christine had asked him to hand to her. "Thank you, Sir knight," Christine said with an angelic smile. She then looked at her reflection and gently put on her clip-on earrings. When she was done she then looked at Gustave. "What do you think Sir knight? Do I look presentable?" she asked.

Gustave smiled at her. "You look like an angel milady," he answered honestly. "Like a Queen of angels," he added with a big grin on his face making Christine giggle.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door, before it opened and Raoul walked inside. Christine was shocked as she saw her husband freshly cleaned up and sober. Raoul looked as handsome as he used to be and always tossed her a rose whenever she performed as a diva in Paris. Before he became the unfaithful drunk he was nowadays. At least she thought that of him till now.

"Doesn't milady look wonderful sir?" Gustave asked Raoul not thinking it odd that he looked so cleaned up.

Raoul smiled at Christine. "Indeed she does, just as radiant as she was when I first saw her perform for the first time in the leading lady role," he replied. Christine lightly blushed at his comment. Gustave didn't notice this for he marched like a knight to Raoul then he stood at a stance like a bodyguard knight would to a guest.

"Please explain your reason on visiting the Angel Queen of Music," Gustave said pretending to be a knight with his talking. Raoul smirked at the boy. "I am here to discuss something of importance, a private matter I'm afraid," Raoul answered going along with the boy's game. Gustave then looked at Christine as if asking if it was okay. Christine nodded her head in reply.

"It is all right Gustave," she said with a gentle smile. "Since it is a private matter, may you please wait outside for a moment?" Christine asked with the slight tone a queen would have while giving a command. Gustave nodded his head in understanding before he then stepped outside of the dressing room smiling as he saw uncle Marius standing outside the hall.

Raoul then shut the door before he looked at Christine. "I have come to apologize," he started to say as he slowly walked to her. "I know I have been an ungrateful, arrogant, stubborn ass for the past ten years since our wedding day," he added with a ashamed tone of voice. When he got to the make-up table beside Christine he got down on one knee before her. He gently took one of her hands as he looked up at her. "I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, nor have the right to ask you anything," he said as he held her hand between his own trembling hands. "But if you do this one thing, I promise, no, I vow that I will do everything in my power to be the man I once was. The man you wished to be by your side," he said his voice getting shaky.

"You need only ask darling," Christine said feeling surprised that her husband had admitted the mistakes and pain he had unknowingly caused for her over the years. But she couldn't shake the feeling that his sudden change of his appearance and his behavior was too much of a coincidence that it happens on the very night she was to sing Erik's song. Either her husband had gambled with a very high price that he couldn't afford to pay or he was thinking that Erik was attempting to steal her away again. Whichever it was she wasn't going to be happy when she found out the reason for his sudden change. But for now she will play along as if she was still the loyal loving wife.

Raoul looked serious and tense. "Please my love, don't sing the song," he said which Christine became surprised. She was about to speak but Raoul interrupted her.

"There is something wrong, I know it," he said quickly. "Never once has Kathleen ever come to see us since we have arrived," he added explaining his reason. "And she was the one that wrote to us, nearly begging us to come," he said his grip then slightly tightening on her hand. "And the fact that monster is the one that runs and owns Coney Island is another reason my gut instinct tells me we need to leave this place," he added with Venom in his voice as he spoke of Erik. Christine looked at Raoul in shock.

"What are you saying? That he has found out of my having a sister and used that as a ruse to bring us here?" she asked thinking that is what Raoul was hinting at. "He wouldn't do that, not to me," she said shaking her head in disbelief knowing very well that Erik had no clue about her long lost twin sister.

Raoul then cupped her cheek to make her look at him. "No, I don't think that Christine," he said to her gently. "But what is to stop him from MAKING her write the letter to have YOU come here?" he asked. Christine then looked at her own reflection with her angelic face still looking shocked. "I know you have missed your sister and long to see her, but would she want you finding her or singing for a man that is no better then the very monster that took her away from you?" he said asking her that one question that struck a nerve within Christine. She actually thought about that before she then spoke.

"And do you expect us to just up and leave?" she asked. "Just like that? What of Gustave's birthday wish? I can't just leave without granting it!" she said as she looked at Raoul with a sad face. "I don't want to break that poor boy's heart," she added.

Raoul shook his head. "Darling, please," he begged. "We must leave this place, something bad is going to happen tonight and I don't want either of us to be caught in the crossfire," he said in a pleading tone. "The boy will understand that we left for our own safety," he added. "I will go and talk to him myself while you go and pack," he said as he stood up. "For his sake and ours we must leave," he said again in a pleading tone. "Please Christine."

Christine looked up at Raoul slightly worried with the way his hands were trembling. "All right darling," she said which brought a smile to her husband's handsome face. "I will meet you at the hotel," she said as she stood up from her make-up chair.

Raoul then kissed her gently. Tasting like dried booze he had to have drank earlier today confirmed that Christine was right to be suspicious of Raoul's sudden change. She waited till Raoul had left the room before she took off her earrings and left them on the make-up table before she headed to the door. But as she tried to open the door, she found it locked. 'Why is it locked?' she thought in her mind. Suddenly then she remembered that the last time she had been locked in her dressing room that resulted her meeting Erik when he had made her think he was the Angel of music sent by her dead father to give her singing lessons. She then felt a pair of eyes on her and she slightly turned her head seeing Erik out of the corner of her eye. "How long have you been in here?" she asked him.

Erik smirked at her, knowing she remembered the first time he talked to her. "Since that man who thinks he is still your husband has been here," he answered honestly as he walked to her make-up table and picked her earrings up. "So you plan on leaving? I thought you weren't one to back down," he said as he then looked at her.

Christine leaned against the door and looked at him. "I wasn't leaving, I was going to look for Kat," she said as she laced her hands together. "I thought she might be able to explain the real reason why Raoul wants to leave this place," she added. "I also wanted to ask her if my sister is here to see me sing," she said with a sigh. She didn't notice that half smirk appear on her face.

"I can't be certain but I have reason to suspect that she WILL be here to see you sing," he said before he stepped closer to her. "But she will be disappointed when she finds out that you have left," he said making Christine look shocked. Erik took Christine's hand and placed the earrings into her hand. "Christine, do you really need a man like him?" he asked her. "He knows you really are mode of finer stuff, which on that I agree with him," he added before he closed up her hand with both of his hands gently holding the one hand. Christine felt her heart tremble at his touch as she looked at their hands. She then looked up at him waiting for him to finish speaking. "I will not force you to sing like last time, but I will tell you that if you leave you will be risking your sister, Gustave and some of the others that are being hunted by the same monster that took your sister and Kat when they were little girls," he said making Christine's face turn white. Erik then looked down sadly. "So it is up to you, my dear Christine," he said as he then looked up at her. "It is your choice, but it is the point of no return," he said before he turned and started to walk away to the entrance of the secret passage.

Christine quickly ran after him and grasped his arm stopping him in place. "Wait! Are you hiding something from me that I should know Erik?" she asked him. Erik then turned to look at her. "Please Erik, I need to know," she added with a pleading look.

Erik looked at her for a moment before looking away. "I think your sister is Gustave's REAL mother," he said before he then stepped into the passage way and vanished into the darkness. Leaving a shocked expression on Christine's face.

Time seemed to stand still as Erik's words echoed in her mind. Of course it shouldn't be such a really big shock to her since Erik had thought he had made love to her ten years ago when it was actually her twin sister that night. She sat back into her make-up chair and looked at the earrings. Once again she had to make a choice that she couldn't turn her back on. Like the one she had to make the choice of choosing either Raoul or Erik, this time she had to choose: Being with a man that she was falling out of love or be reunited with her twin sister and her nephew that was the child of the man who once inspired her voice.

Christine's chain of thought was interrupted by a knock at her door. "It's ten minutes till curtain Miss Daae," the stage hand said after peeking his head in to inform her the time she had left till she was to sing. Christine took a breath before she spoke.

"I'll be there soon, I just need a minute," she said to the man. He nodded his head before slipping his head back out of the room before shutting the door, leaving the diva alone. Christine again thought about the choices she had before her.

Does she stay and sing or leave and loose the only chance of finding her only family that was alive?

Meanwhile Madam Giry was sighing heavily as she knew that Erik was planning on giving all that they worked so hard for to his bastard son, Kat's child. She couldn't understand why she had the feeling that there was more going on then she had simply believed. If she was going to get what she wanted back she had to get all of the information. She hated having being pushed to blackmail but she wasn't going to give up the last change to get what's hers. Even if it meant that she had to be the bad guy.

She stood up and walked back to the side of the stage and watched her daughter perform. Her poor daughter having to resort to being like an exotic dancer just to try and gain the attention of the one man that would never glance her way. Once Madam Giry got her revenge on Erik betraying her she will have to have a long chat with her daughter.

Madam Giry then spotted Raoul walking from the direction of Christine's dressing room. What surprised her was that Raoul stopped in a secluded corner and started to talk to himself. 'What is going on with him?' she thought before she quietly walked to where he was. As she got closer she could hear the Vicomte talking. Her eyes widen in shock as she listened to hear him say... "I wonder if I should have stayed with her just to be sure she was going to leave. Will she actually flee? Or will she stay and sing? I wonder what she's thinking now...Who will it be?

Him or me?" he muttered to himself. Madam Giry could not believe it! Erik was not only having an affair with Kat but he was also having a possible affair with Christine!

Madam Giry then smirked before she then walked to Kat's dressing room...

Kat finished changing out of her costume and was half way of changing into a cleaner dress when she heard a knock at her door. "Who is it?" she asked aloud as she was slipping into her fresh undergarments. She hoped it wasn't Raoul or Christine.

"Madam Giry, Miss," Madam Giry's voice replied from the other side of the door. "I have something I wish to speak with you. May I come in?" she said making Kat a bit puzzled and freeze part way of putting on her under skirt. 'What on earth does she want to speak to me about?' Kat thought before she continued dressing. Kat thought about the matter and knew that Madam Giry either had a sneaky suspicion or had discovered her secret. She had no choice but to allow the heartless woman speak to her. "Come in Madam Giry," Kat said before she started to slip on her dress. She heard the door open and close followed by the soft sounds of clicking heels.

Kat guessed that she was looking for her in the dressing room. "What is it you wished to speak to me about?" Kat asked as she was fixing her dress up so her body was snugged comfortably in her dress. She could hear Madam Giry gasp in surprise before she turned around towards where she heard Kat's voice.

Madam Giry took a small breath after calming her heart from Kat suddenly speaking from her changing area. "I have just seen the Vicomte a few moments ago," she started. "And he seemed to be worried and nervous," she went on. "I thought to ask what his troubles were, but as I got closer to him I could hear him talking to himself," she said as she started to lace her hands together. "And what he said has somewhat trouble me."

Kat softly sighed knowing that Raoul must be talking of whether or not Christine is staying here and sing or leave with him. 'I seriously doubt Erik arrived late to stop her,' she thought as Kat slipped on her costume jewelry. "And what did he say?" Kat asked before she started to slip on her special cloak that was able to conceal the upper part of her face.

Madam Giry turned slightly. "The Vicomte said that he is worried that the master would try and steal Miss Daae again," she replied. "And I have reason to believe that he may be right," she added. "Lately Mr. Y has been some would say...distracted," she said sounding a bit worried. "I know him well enough that I believe that he indeed might be trying to do something that involves Christine," she added as she started to walk back and forth in a worried manner even though she was really faking it. "He was like this years ago and try as I might to help him, he still has feelings for her," Madam Giry said before she stopped in place and glanced to where Kat was behind the changing area. "And try as you might I can tell you have the same feelings for him," she added making Kat freeze on the spot. Her silence only proved Madam Giry that she was right.

"And your point Madam?" Kat asked calmly which surprised Madam Giry. "It doesn't matter of my feelings," Kat started to say. "Whom he has affairs with or feelings for shouldn't be any of my business," she added as she tied on her cloak.

Madam Giry looked surprised. 'This harlot isn't acting as I thought she would,' Madam Giry thought with anger. "Aren't you concerned that Miss Daae might be hurt by him? He has killed TWO people when he was in the opera house," she said seeing If Kat knew of this. "He even almost killed the Vicomte!"

Kat paused for a minute before she spoke again. "I don't think Erik would harm her, it may look like to you, but to me he seems like a man that has lived on the dark and ugly side of life," Kat said in defense for Erik. "He deserves a chance of true love and real happiness," she added. 'Even if the lucky woman he chooses might not be me,' she added in her mind. Kat could slightly feel a pain in her chest that she knew was her heart crying of heartache. A flash of the last time Erik made love to her appeared in her mind which Kat wrapped her arms around herself to try and relax. Or else she would give away what Madam Giry doesn't know.

"But-But miss, surely you can't expect me to believe that you would allow the father of your son to leave the both of you for a woman that hates and despises him?!" Madam Giry said cause Kat to not only guess that the greedy woman knew of Erik being Gustave's father. 'How did she find out about that?' Kat thought as panic and rage ran though her body. Madam Giry then tried to take a step closer since Kat was dead silent. "Miss Kat?" Madam Giry asked as she got closer. "Are you all right?" she asked again.

Kat's hands trembled as she tried to hold back her anger. "Madam..." Kat said in a lightly cold tone. "Get out," she added.

Madam Giry stopped dead in her tracks as she was surprised at Kat's tone. "What?" she asked. "You heard me Madam," Kat replied. "Get out of my dressing room please before I call out for one of my guards to drag you out by force," she said as a hint of her anger started to leak out in her voice. Madam Giry was outraged at her response but then realized that she must have struck a nerve within the kind Angel of Coney Island.

Madam Giry then smirked as she composed herself. "Very well, miss, I shall leave," she said before she walked to the door. She paused as she was half way out the door before she looked back. "A word of advice milady," she started to say. "Erik has a talent for using woman and discarding them aside, like he has discarded me and my daughter, he has now discarded you for Christine," she said striking another nerve to Kat. "Don't be surprised if he steals your son and make's Christine his new mother," she finished saying before she left the room and slammed the door shut. She smirked as she walked down the hall and left the Angel of Coney Island to do what Madam Giry expected her to do. Now things shall be going her way.

She then spotted Erik waiting no doubt for Christine to come out and sing. Madam Giry walked up towards him. "I hope Christine doesn't disappoint," she softly whispered to him. "If she fails, you will pay the price for discarding Meg and I so harshly," she added before she heard her daughter's performance was done. "If you will excuse me," she said before heading to her daughter's dressing room. She had just entered the room as Gunner was congratulating Meg on her performance.

Meg instantly ran to her mother and embraced her with joy. "Oh mother did you see that? I was amazing! I can still hear those applause!" she said excitedly. "At first I was afraid but Marius said I would do perfectly," she said before she looked at her mother. "And I swear I could feel the master's eyes on me! Tell me mother, was he there? Did he see me perform?" she asked excited again.

Madam Giry only looked sadly at her daughter. "Meg, I am sorry," she said before she cupped her daughter's face. "He wasn't there," she said making her daughter go from being happy to being shocked.

"He wasn't there? Where was he then if he wasn't watching?" Meg asked. Madam Giry looked away from her daughter. "Where do you think? With HER," she replied. Meg's eyes widened. "With Christine? But-But I thought he and Kat were-!" she started to say but her mother covered her mouth. "It would seem he has not only replaced us but Kat as well, even if she gave him a son and her love," Madam Giry replied.

Meg was even more shocked. "His son? That little boy whose birthday is today?" Gunner asked partly interested. Madam Giry glanced at Gunner. "Yes, he is the one," Madam Giry replied. "He is also the master's heir," she added.

"Heir?" Gunner asked. Madam Giry nodded her head. "That monster has left everything to his bastard son," she said with anger in her voice.

Gunner looked surprised. "He did, did he?" he said. 'Looks like there is something more then just a simple love triangle,' he thought. 'I know that slut would spread her legs to that so called Phantom, but I didn't her to bear him a bastard child,' he added in his mind. 'But still I can use the boy to get that wench out of hiding,' he thought before he glanced at Madam Giry who was comforting her daughter Meg. 'I can't use Madam Giry, she doesn't have the guts to try and harm the boy,' he concluded before he then looked at Meg. 'Meg on the other hand might be useful and easy to manipulate,' he decided. Now he just needed to get Meg alone...

Let me tell you that I was shocked when I had finished writing this chapter and found that this chapter was 28 AND A HALF PAGES LONG! :faint:  Yeah and imagine my frustration when I had tried to type the chapter out online but having the window I was using to type it out here on DA crash on my four times while I was HALF way done. :steaming: After having to suffer it happening to me three times, I decided to use word map and take up two days to type this chapter. When I finally I got to finishing typing I saved it up, and took a small break to wait for my anger on the window crashing to die out. (Last thing I want is to take my anger out on my baby just because my internet window is crashing and trying to make me furious.) So today, after getting things in routine with my job schedual, I decided to post this chapter for you all.

The song that Kat sings titled 'Angel of the night' was one of songs I wrote from the very beginning and updated bits of it. This song was the one I had a hard time to write, since I was trying to make it just about as good 'love never dies' was. But I decided to just stop trying so hard and do my best at writing a song that Kat would try to compose as a way for her to confess her feelings to Erik as he sings 'Till I hear you sing' for his longing for Christine. I had asked another of my friends on DA and she liked it, but save this one for the ending and write another one. I apologize to this friend if she is mad at me for not doing this. But I have a pretty good ending in mind and it won't be needing Kat's song for it.

I hope you Phantom fans can catch on the little Easter eggs to the Original novel by Gaston Leroux with the Grasshopper, the Scorpion carving on the secret door that Kat uses in this chapter. I had wanted to pay a little mention of the original in my fan fic for a while and couldn't figure out how to do it till I had to figure out what shape of the secret door buttons had to be.

And I really do hope that some of you are all right that I had Christine be a bit suspicious of Raoul. In the musical, London and the Australian production of the show, Christine didn't even get the least be curious or suspicious as to Raoul's sudden change and demand to leave so suddenly. Especially with the little anger moment he had with her during 'Dear Old Friends'. Wouldn't you be at least a tiny bit suspicious after that? I know I would, but then again I would have gone with the Phantom in the beginning. ^^;

Also I had a bit of a tough choice with Madam Giry since I had most of my image from the London production version of her, but since I saw the Australian production I thought I should try to balance her out somewhat. She isn't really an evil pain in the butt, she is just a pawn used by Gunner and a bit manipulated into believing that she isn't doing anything wrong and deserves to be giving what she thinks she has worked so hard for. Hope this message comes across to some of you before you judge her as really evil.

The one thing I was most worried about was Erik's feelings. I was doing my best to make the romance between him and Kathleen seem a bit realistic and not too fast for him to fall in love with her. And hopefully you all phantom fan girls enjoy it. And don't worry, if you want Erik to be a bit like his old Phantom self some more then just sneaking into Christine's dressing room, don't worry I have some of that ready in Chapter 21 and closer to the end of this fan fic. :rose:

Hope you enjoy this chapter and like the inside information I have posted in my author's note for what happened during the writing of this LONG chapter.

Please comment and keep your eyes open for the next chapter! Which is when Christine will be singing 'Love never dies'...and she will be getting a special surprise that she didn't see coming!

Chapter 21 coming soon...
