The Battle Begins

Wilusa's defenders fought against the army of Mumm-Ra! Like two great waves they clashed!

Neither side showed any sign of weakening.

As the two sides fought, Gard kept getting farther and farther from the rest of Wilusa's defenders. Once he could hear Tygra calling his name but no more. How far had he gotten? All he could see were lizards!

At one point he came upon Slithe. Neither Evabon nor lizard fought one another. They just gave each other knowing glances. They're fights were not with each other.

"Donalbain waits for you in the forest."

"And Lynx-O for you in the old watch tower."

"Donalbain can't be killed."

"Don't have to kill him to defeat him. Lynx-O is blind."

"I am judge, jury and executioner. He is guilty. He must die!"

Gard nodded. "Beware of revenge, Slithe. It is a poison."

Slithe too nodded. "I feel it by having allied myself with Mumm-Ra. The end justified the means. When I am done, no more will we follow Mumm-Ra, no more will we be used as cannon fodder."

The two clasped hands. They understood that they were not truly enemies. The circumstances of allegiance had merely forced them into this situation.

"When this id done, Slithe, we shall burn our dead so Evabon and Lizard alike may ascend to the Floating Mountain across the Rainbow Bridge."

Gard and Slithe parted. They're search for they're respective quarries brought them to the far distant reaches of the battlefield. When Gard reached the forest he felt a tinge of fear in his heart. If he died, Donalbain would show no respect to his fallen enemy. To fight one that could not ben killed would be difficult but it would not be impossible.

He looked up to the sky.

"Procyon! Brother! All I ask is that you protect Balor he is kin to both of us, he must live! Do not show me any favor in this battle though Donalbain is kept alive by Mumm-Ra's magic I must defeat him myself. Against such foes morale is in low supply. If I can defeat him without the aid of any magic, then all the world will know that such villains can be defeated!"
