Cam's fever had gotten a lot better thanks to the farmer's help and care. He noticed that the sun was sinking to the ground and the sky had turned a little dark. Despite the late time, Lillian was still nursing him.
"A-are you going to leave soon?" Cam asked.
She gently touched his forehead and nodded with a smile.
"Your fever had gone down. I can now leave without worrying about you."
"B-but uhh it's dangerous for you to go home now..."
Yes, he was worried about her going home alone but he felt like that sentence was more of an excuse for her not to go. He wanted to be with her just a little more. W-wait! He told himself, hold up... did I just... admit all of that? Did I just... asked her not to go, but indirectly? No no no no! WHAT KIND OF MAN HAVE I BECOME? He slapped his cheeks and squeaked. His heart pounded like a never ending drum the more he stared at Lillian. It wouldn't stop even if he tried to tell it to stop. Stupid! Heart is stupid! Like how it was stolen by her so damn easily!
Cam was so lost in thought that he didn't notice that she was waiting for him to look at her note.
"I'll go to town hall for tonight and are you okay?"
"Y-yeah. Have fun. I'm fine."
"Go to sleep and rest. I'll take my leave."
"Yeah. Whatever."
As soon as her figure disappeared from his sight, Cam slapped his cheeks. He was scared of his own idiotic thoughts. For a moment, he tried to persuade himself that Lillian had put some kind of drug in his food or his medicine. He clenched his right hand and pounded on his left palm.
"That's it! Girls are like witches after all! She probably put some kind of drug in my medicine and tries to brainwash me! I won't fall for that."
He lied back down but he couldn't find a comfortable position. The florist twisted and turned for the past ten minutes. He became angry with himself for not knowing what kind of stupid feeling was roaming inside his chest. He finally decided that he needed some fresh air to calm him down. Perhaps it would be best if he looked at his little garden in front of the cafe. That always seemed to give him some peace.
"Good evening, Lillian! Are you staying in Bluebell for tonight?" Rutger said. "Did Ina finally show her inner beast to you?"
"No, she is as welcoming and sweet as you are. And yes I would like to stay for tonight."
"Alrighty! I'll show you to your room."
She could hear a sweet melody dancing on the upstairs hallway. Her cheeks turned red because she knew who was exactly making that beautiful sound.
"Here we are! Room 2!" Rutger announced. "Enjoy the night, Lillian."
"Thank you. You have a good night too, Mayor Rutger."
She bowed as the old man returned to his room. The melody stopped and a head poked out of the room next to hers. Mikhail looked at her in surprise but he gave her a charming smile.
"Good evening, Lillian. We haven't talk for awhile," he said.
"I'm sorry about last time! It was an emergency."
The violinist chuckled and put out his hand.
"Would you like to make up for our last date?"
Oh my goddess jumping on a cupcake! The man she had secretly admired the most was asking her on a date. This was a sign of a good night! Lillian held his hand with flushed cheeks and smiled.
They sat by the water fountain that located in the middle of the town, gazing at the glittering sky. No words were exchanged except for their silence. The musician turned his head to the farmer. Somehow, he found her much prettier than the sparkling stars floating in the night. The longer he stared at her, the more features of her he came to love. Like the way her hair was put in a bun but there were a lot of layers sticking out. Like the way her eyes shone brighter than any light. Like the way her lips curved into a beautiful smile.
"I'm looking forward to this music festival," he said, "so that on that day, I'll get a chance to dance with you."
There was a chuckle of a young man from the distance. With his hands in his pocket, he headed toward the couple.
"Who would want to dance with an ugly troll like her?" Cam said.
"I do," Mikhail protested. "Please don't speak to Lillian that way."
"That's brave of you."
Cam took a hold of the farmer's hand and pulled her to his side.
"Now if you don't mind, I need to talk to her," he said.
"No," Mikhail said as he grabbed her other hand, "I do mind."
The florist turned to Lillian and frowned.
"I need you to tell me everything. I want to know what happened from beginning to the end about that accident."
Pretending like the violinist wasn't there, he tightened his grasp and dragged her back to the cafe. Lillian waved to Mikhail as she mouthed the word "sorry". She noticed the way Cam held her hand, like she would be taken away from him if he was to ever let go.
"Cam, are you okay?" she mouthed.
How strange, he could read her lips perfectly. Her palm touched his forehead and there was a frown on her face.
"Your fever is coming back." She took out her notepad and began writing but Cam stopped her.
"I just want you to tell me everything from that accident. I want to know if that's the reason you lost your voice."
She nodded her head slowly, with her eyes still on him. His face became familiar, as if she had met him from somewhere. No, they definitely did meet from somewhere.
"You... we met before..." she said with no voice escaping her lips.
"That... it does not matter right now. I'll stay up as long as I have to for you to tell me everything."
The farmer nodded again. Her hand began to write down her past story, from the time when her mother died from an illness to the time when she lost her voice.
She was so tired and exhausted fell asleep after waiting for Cam to read everything on her notepad.
"Thank you, Lillian. It's been a long day for you. I know you won't hear me say this but..."
"I'm really sorry for everything."
